Imagine that you’re working at this little cafe that is situated close to the U.A. Serving this absurdly tall, gaunt citizen every day when he drops by in the mornings for his takeaway tea.

Not coffee. Tea. You found it weird because the dude seems definitely like a black espresso type to you -  what with this air of nervousness and not getting enough sleep that he exudes. But you don’t think twice about it. He’s just a customer after all.

An extremely nice customer, that’s for sure. You’re used to people being in a hurry all the time, being high-strung and taking their stress out on you. He never does. He looks sick, emaciated, with bones all but protruding through his skin. His face is composed entirely of hard angles, so narrow and sharp that it almost hurts to watch. His eyes are deep-set, always hidden in shadow. Smiling sweetly with a mug like this seems impossible. Yet he manages exactly that. He makes his order in a soft, polite voice and never asks you to “step on it” like the other customers do. He actually looks you in the face while paying.  His hands are cold and clammy to the touch.

You’ve never seen such intense eyes in a man.

Time passes and you start to look forward to seeing the gaunt guy. He’s the highlight of your day. Easy to spot from afar, too - a beanstalk of a dude with unruly blonde hair framing that skeletal features. He walks hunched as if he was trying to hide from the world. You can't put your finger on it, but there's something about that man that makes your heart twitch.

One day he starts to cough while standing in the line. It’s a nasty, wet cough that chills you to the spine. It doesn’t stop when he covers his mouth with both hands either. You see the string of red, trickling down between his large fingers. People around him are starting to notice.

You don’t think much. You just act.

You ask the girl who works the shift with you to hold the fort for a minute - and you jump outta the counter with a bunch of napkins in your hand.

“There”, you breathe, reaching out to the gaunt guy. He's almost bent in two, trying to appear as small as possible. Poor soul. Must feel terribly embarrassed. “Use those. And we have a restroom on the left, you can spend as much time in there as you need.”

His gaze holds yours - so blue! - for a while before he actually takes the napkins from you and wipes his bleeding mouth.

“...Thank you.”
