My Tumblr account doesn’t get much action.  I’m sure some day it will, but for now I really only get the occasional notification.  Last night I got a whole 10 of them.  Now, I realize that’s not a lot, but it is more than I’m used to.  Seems a photo of my pup in front of the lake gained some notice last night.  Of course it did, he’s beautiful! Of course I’m partial.  

So I thought I would take a moment to introduce Riley.  Riley was a gift to me from my step dad, who got him from a friend of his who raised Treeing Walker Coonhounds.  See, as much as Riley looks like a Redbone (I tell people he is a Redbone, it’s easier) his Momma was a full blooded papered and working Treeing Walker Coonhound.  His father was a determined Redbone Coonhound who was NOT supposed to meet his mother.  

His litter had hunting lines on both sides and he was supposed to go to a hunting home only.  You won’t see any hunting pictures here, as I don’t hunt.  If you do, then good for you.  But I don’t.  I became interested in Coonhounds because I was looking for something different (I always had Border Collies growing up, I love them, but when I lost my last one having another one just felt wrong).  I wanted to do search and rescue work.  I was drawn to the hounds, I liked the red color, and I had Border Collies growing up so high energy dogs don’t scare me.  Since I wanted the pup for Search and Rescue work they agreed I’d be a decent home.  

Riley is afraid of my cats (so much for treeing a coon in the woods) and terribly gun shy (he almost ran through the sliding door the first time the neighbors started shooting their guns).  So I kind of think he was better off with me.  He is almost 10 months old now and is doing an amazing job tracking live human beings.  We’re far from certifying but he knows his job and he does it.  He also does sit, stay, roll, crawl, paw, speak, go left, go right, and down.  He comes when called most of the time, that’s a work in progress but we’re getting there.  He is my constant companion and he has gotten me through good times and bad in the time I’ve had him.  

I’m happy to see other people find him to be as beautiful as I do.  I’m sure I’ll be posting lots more of his pictures as the weather turns warmer.

Here's your Monday morning dose of Biscuit. She is almost all the way healed up from getting spayed and is starting to get out and adventure more with me again. She has finally embraced the treeing part of being a Treeing Walker Coonhound and has bark up a storm at the base of every tree with a squirrel in it
