I’ve had his goofy idea in my head for a while, and today instead of working, I wrote it down instead.
This is Trill AU and doesn’t take place in the ongoing story, but in like a separate episode after there’s been a dramatic time travel incident, which is not important to this goofy idea.
<discussions of sex, but nothing that paints an explicit picture.>
Groose lowered his cards squinting up at the ceiling in thought. "If you could go back in time and tell yourself one thing, what would it be?"
After the events of the day, they all sat in uncertainty, but finally Russl said, "That's easy. I'd tell baby me to actually go study."
"I don't believe for a second that you didn't study," Malon said.
"That's because I learned my lesson! But I could have learned it faster."
"I would tell myself that I don't have to eat all the food on every planet we visit," Malon said.
"Oh, that's a good one," Ruto said. "I'd do that too."
Link taped his cards in thought. "Could I go back to any of Fi's hosts, or just me?"
Zelda tried not to make eye contact, but Malon said, "Sure! I don't see why not."
"Ooo!" Groose said, "Then I want to go back and talk to my gramps!"
"No! That's not how it works," Malon argued.
"Why not?"
Ruto interrupted with, "We all know what Link would say."
"No, you don't," he said.
"Seriously? Of course, we do."
"You don't know, because I'd do something weird."
"Oh yeah, like what?"
Link set down his cards and leaned forward in his chair, eager for his idea, which was sounding better and better in his head all the time. "Okay, so my second host was hot, right?"
"Sure he was," Groose said, not sounding as if he believed it.
"And he was good at...things."
Everyone groaned, and Groose gave an even more disbelieving, "Suuuuuue."
"But! Fi's spent the last three lives on Orion, in a community founded by guardians, and I know a trick that he didn't know. I would go back and time and tell him about it."
"Sounds like he wasn't that good in bed to begin with."
Malon narrowed her eyes. "Or are you trying to tell us that you're even better?"
"No, he was kinda known for it. Nothing but glowing praise."
"So what's the trick?" Groose asked.
"Yeah, now you have to tell us," Malon said, as Russl shifted his chips around in embarrassment and said, "No, you don't."
Ruto shook her head. "I bet it's something real common. It's like kani'ti."
Link scoffed. "It's not kani'ti. Everyone knows that."
"Wait, I don't know that. What is that!?" Malon asked, but she was ignored.
"Then I bet it's like...biting or something."
"No, I'm telling you. My guy knew his stuff, but this is next level."
Groose asked, "Is it--"
"No. It's a Trill thing. There's no way you know it."
"Says you."
"He's lived a bunch of lives," Ruto said. "There's no way this is just one person being oblivious. This has got to be..." She made a face, absolutely hating not being able to figure things out. "--It's got to be something really weird."
"Really weird," Groose repeated, his eyes glassy.
"Okay! Well! This has been fun!" Russl said, trying to wrap things up, but no one listened.
"So you would spend your one chance to go back in time to give yourself sex advice?" Ruto asked.
Link shrugged. "Think of how many lives it would improve."
Everyone stared at him.
"I change my answer," Groose announced. "I'd do that too."
"Oh yeah, for sure," Malon agreed. "As soon as someone tells me what kani'ti is."
Ruto lost patience, "Zelda, it's a Trill thing. Do you know what it is?"
Zelda had been quiet this whole time, at first trying not to let anyone else think that she was in any way involved in this conversation, but now from sheer confusion, which was evident from the crumpled bafflement on her face. "I have no idea!"
Fi's host knew everything she did! Not that they'd done it all, but he'd at least known everything existed. Right?! What was Link even talking about?! What could it possibly be that he'd time travel to pass on this knowledge instead of time traveling to warn himself of events that would ruin not only his life but that of each one of Fi's hosts that came after him? What could possibly be that good? Her mind reeled.
She finally landed on that Link must be messing with them to distract from the depressing conversation of how he would actually time travel when Link shrugged again. He still wouldn't meet her eyes, and a flush washed across his cheeks. "It's fun."

The moth boys and mutual grooming thing is so cute! But does their fuzz take to water alright? I know some species of moths can grow mold in their fuzz if damp too long and it’s rather deadly? So would they have issues with showers or so? If not I can imagine MC using all her fancy shampoos on them and making them smell like a new smoothie flavor each week.
I never considered that before, but now, I like to think that grooming for moths is important for not just bonding- it's also important for keeping fur looking good and staying somewhat waterproof. Maybe something to do with the distribution of waterproofing through their floof... it needs to be ruffled and brushed. Either by themselves, or someone else.
For Sans and Red, waterproofing isn't an issue. They know how to do it for themselves when they don't have other moths around, and even in the zoo (where they don't have to worry about rain) Mc would unintentionally help with it when caring for their wings.
Skull would have problems, though. He was raised in captivity, and grew up separated from other moths; he never had anyone to teach him how to groom/be groomed. His floof grows long and sometimes matted, he gets mucky and dusty since he can't self-clean. Mc would have to give him a proper bath every once in a while.
.... The only thing Mc dislikes more than being snatched by a clingy moth, is being snatched by a soggy clingy moth. He weighs twice as much when he's wet.
