Trim

Letztes Wochenende habe ich einen Ausflug zum beliebten Trimcastle gemacht. Das Wetter war mega gut, sonnig und relativ wamr nur der kalte Wind war etwas störend. Da alle anderen Austauschschülerinnen dort schon waren, war ich alleine da und konnte so ganz alleine bestimmen, was ich mir angucke und was nicht. Also hab ich gegen Nachmittag den Bus dorthin genommen. Erst hab ich mir nur das Castle von außen angeguckt und mir ein paar Sachen durchgelesen und dann sogar an einer Tour durch das Castle gemacht. Auch innen ist noch erstaunlich viel erhalten geblieben. Nach der Tour bin ich nochmal um die ganze Mauer gelaufen und wollte mich dann an den Fluss setzten um zu lesen. Der Platz den ich vom anderen Flussufer gesichtet hatte war aber belegt, weshalb ich mich kurzerhand entschieden hab auf den Baum zu klettern, von dem ich hier auch ein Foto hochgeladen hab, und dort zu lesen. Auf den Baum raufzukommen hat mich etwas Kreativität gefordert, aber ich habe einen sehr gemütlichen Platz gefunden und der Efeu hat meinen Rücken wunderbar gewärmt. Für die Rückfahrt hatte ich mir einige Busoptionen aufgeschrieben. Leider haben sich diese aber innerhalb 24 Stunden geändert und so stand ich 15 Minuten bevor der Bus kommen sollte an der Bushaltestelle mit der Information: Der Bus fährt nicht. Also hab ich meine Gasteltern angerufen, die aber beide Beschäftigt waren. Der nächste Bus wäre 1 Stunde später gefahren und ich hatte nur noch 30% Akku. Dann kam doch ein Bus, aber leider nicht meiner. Immerhin konnte mir der Busfahrer sagen, dass hier in den nächsten 10 Minuten mein Bus kommen würde. Als nach 15 Minuten aber immer noch kein Bus an der Haltestelle hielt, hab ich mir vorgenommen noch 5 Minuten zu warten und dann in das Restaurant auf der gegenüberliegenden Straßenseite zu gehen um mich warm zu halten. Nach 4 Minuten kam dann ein kleiner Bus und hat auch angehalten. Der Busfahrer hat sich für die Umstände entschuldigt und mich und die anderen 3 Leute kostenlos mitgenommen. Da er auf Nachfrage eines Passagiers auch etwas abweichend von der Bushaltestelle gehalten hat habe ich auch nachgefragt. So musste ich nach all der nervenaufreibenden Stunde immerhin nur 5 Minuten zum Haus laufen statt 30. Meine Gasteltern fanden diese Geschichte sehr amüsant und meinten, dass das definitiv keine Seltenheit hier ist.

Saturday Adventure: Trim Castle, St Mary’s Abbey and Newtown Abbey. It was a gorgeous morning so Hank and I headed out early. We drove a hour north to County Meath where Trim Castle, St Mary’s Abbey and Newtown Abbey are located. Gorgeous and totally worth the drive. The sheep were an added bonus along the riverwalk but did require Hank to be on leash the entire time. Bummer for him. Trim Castle is the largest Anglo-Norman fortification in Ireland. The Yellow Steeple was once the bell tower of St Mary’s Abbey dating back to 1368.
