Turnabout Timeloop Chapter 1

“I’ve heard enough. It’s time to declare my verdict.”

(This is bad.) Apollo didn’t have the evidence needed to turn this around. (What should I do???) He was out of options, wasn’t he? (That doesn’t matter!! I can come up with a good reason why. For now, I just need to ob-)

“Guilty.”

(….ject)

Almost instantly, a voice rings out across the courtroom. “NO!!!!! Frin would never do something like that!! Let them go!!!” Bonnie struggles helplessly in Odile’s arms. They must have found a way to sneak into the courtroom after all. Odile’s expression is unreadable as she tries to usher them back out of the courtroom. None of them had wanted Bonnie to see this.

Apollo’s client, Sifferin, nomiddlename nolastname (Still can’t believe that was allowed), stares in horror at the commotion. “Bonbon….”  They look shattered. Understandably so, considering they were just declared guilty of murder, and in front of Bonnie, no less. 

“This wasn’t supposed to happen. I didn’t- I just- wanted to-I’m sorry.” Their voice is small. Practically drowned out by the scuffle happening in the back of the room.

(What do they mean?) Was there something he missed? There had to have been. It just didn’t add up. (I wish I had more time to investigate, maybe I could’ve-)

Apollo wakes up at his desk in the Wright Anything Agency. (A dream? Man. I must be really stressed about this case if I’m dreaming about losing it huh? That dream was weirdly detailed though….weird.) 

He tilts his head back and forth to try and deal with his stiff neck. It pops unpleasantly.

“You’re going to end up with back problems like me, you know.” A familiar voice calls out.

Phoenix. Wright. His boss. Didn’t he say something like this before? Apollo had just kind of responded noncommittally in the dream, something about not doing it again. It was pretty passive, and he’d felt weird about it after. Like he was a kid getting scolded by his dad. (Gross.) 

“Dunno, Mr. Wright. You sure you’re not just old?” 

“HA. I guess you don’t want this coffee then. More for me.”

“Wait, no I was just joking-” he wanted that coffee.

“Yeah, yeah I know-” He pauses and with a devious smirk adds “....kiddo.” and ruffles Apollo’s hair.

(Eugh.) Apollo nabs the coffee from Phoenix’s hand and downs it. He’s not sure how long he slept but he needs to get to work. There was lots to do. Meet with the client, investigate the crime scene, interview the witnesses…the sooner he got started the better. He didn’t want a repeat performance of his dream.

“Alright, you know Trucy and I are going to be out of town for her next show. Gonna have to get your own coffee for a few days. “

“I’m sure I’ll manage.” It was kind of a shame. Mr. Wright did make weirdly good coffee. Maybe he worked at a coffee shop at some point when he was disbarred? Who knows. Wasn’t like he’d tell Apollo if he had.

“Good luck on your case. I know Prosecutor Von Karma can be intimidating but she’s mellowed out a lot since I faced her in court. You got this!”

Prosecutor Von Karma…she had been practicing law abroad for some time now and had only just recently returned to Ka Bue. The daughter of Manfred Von Karma, the prosecutor with one of the longest win streaks known in the law world as well as the adoptive sister of the head prosecutor Miles Edgeworth. Family legacy aside, she was well known to be very good at what she did and to take very little nonsense in the courtroom. He’d have to be at the top of his game if he was going to be facing her. In his dream she’d been as formidable as he’d imagined… Perhaps it was some sort of subconscious warning against complacency? Sure. He’d go with that.

“Athena’s out of the office today but should be able to assist you in the trial tomorrow if you need back up.” He knew she’d been enjoying some down time after her last big case and didn’t want to drag her into his own workload. Still, her skills were invaluable in many past cases so he should consider his options carefully.  

“Water Charley for me, won’t you?”

Oh, he’d been in his own head about the case and not responding to Mr. Wright, oops. “Of course. I’ve got things here Mr. Wright. Go enjoy Trucy’s show”

“I know you’ve got this, I just gotta do my job as your boss, heh. See ya in a few days.”

“Don’t forget to take a few videos of the show for me!”

“‘Course.” He says as he leaves the room with a small wave.

 He fixes his signature spikes and pulls on his suit pinning his badge to the lapel. 

His pretrial nerves were starting to get to him as well as lingering weirdness from the dream. Well. No one was here to judge him for doing his cords of steel warm ups as he got ready sooo-

“APOLLO JUSTICE IS DOING FINE!!”

“APOLLO! JUSTICE! IS DOING FINE!”

“I'M FINE!”

“I! AM! FINE!”

(Alright!! All warmed up! It's go time, Apollo!)

He hops on his bike and pedals away to the detention center. He vaguely remembers how there had been a traffic jam in his dream so he takes an alternative route where he could stick to side streets more. Silly maybe but hey if his subconscious was trying to protect him from being late who was he to argue?

  A woman is waiting for him outside the building. She is technically the one who hired him. (Odile if I remember correctly. She’s a Ka Buan citizen but has been abroad up until recently. She was part of a group that saved the country of Vaugarde.) 

This case was somewhat of a diplomatic nightmare. Despite the distance, Vauguarde and Ka Bue were in pretty good standing with one another. Convicting one the saviors of Vauguarde carried steep political implications. A citizen of Ka Bue had been murdered though and the law was clear that justice must be served regardless of the circumstances of the accused. It was his job to prove his client innocent and possibly prevent an international incident. (No pressure!)

“Mr. Justice.” She says it more as a statement than a question. HIs defense badge must have given him away.

“Yes, ma'am! At your service!”  He realizes he sounds a bit too over eager and tones it back a bit. “You must be madame Odile?”

“That’s correct.” She gives him an appraising look. Her expression does not give away any conclusions she may have drawn. “Thank you for coming out on such short notice.”

“Of course.” (Short notice is kind of the norm in my experience…) 

“Siffrin is inside. They wouldn’t let me inside to talk to them but they should let you in as his lawyer.” 

(She seems calm for someone whose friend is currently being held on suspicion of murder. She’s either one tough lady or she’s convinced they didn’t do it.)

“I’ll see if I can get you visitation privileges after I talk to them.” 

She gives him a small nod. “Thank you.”

Apollo enters the detention center trying not to think too hard about how Odile had appeared so accurately in his dream. It was probably just his brain mixing up memory with dreams after all. She just looks similar enough that his brain THINKS it's the same! (....yeah that’s gotta be it)

His client looks very distraught. Understandable considering the circumstances but they look like they’re on the verge of a panic attack. (I should do something to calm them down.)

In Vauguardian he says: “Hey, breathe for a second alright?” When their attention snaps to him he hesitates for a moment then: “Here um. LIke this?” He breathes in. Then out. 

They follow his lead and after a bit seem to have centered themself a bit. A realization seems to dawn on them a moment later however. “How did you know to do that?”

“A breathing exercise? I mean. It's a pretty common calming technique isn’t it?”

“No- You…did it differently before” 

“Before…?” (I did do it differently in the dream didn’t I? This way seemed to work better for them in the dream so I guess I just led with it? But that was just a dream. Wasn’t it???)

They seem to be deep in thought for a long moment then they fix an intense look on him. “Something of mine was found on the victim. What was it?”

“A coin.”

The answer was so automatic he surprises himself. That wasn’t right. He hadn’t even been to the crime scene yet. Sure in his dream there’d been a coin but that was just-

“Stars. You remember.”

TEASER OF THE WRIGHTWORTH FIC IM WORKING ON RIGHT NOW “Turnabout Timeloop”

“TAKE THAT!” I handed the judge a photo of the tape outline of one of the ‘wet footprints’ with a ruler next to it, “I measured these footprints that Mr. Lester testified about, tell me, what is your shoe size?” “. . .” The judge lowered the photo, “Please tell the court your shoe size Mr. Lester!” “. . . . Thirteen. . . .” “The exact size!” The judge exclaimed, “Kyle,” I turned to Mr. Porter, “Would you toss me one of your shoes?” I asked, “Oh! Yeah, here.” He slipped off one of his vans and threw it at my chest, after slipping it twice I caught it, peering inside despite the smell at the number on the inner heel. “Nines!” The jury gasped and rabbled as I turned it for all to see, taking an opportunity to quip I cleared my throat, “Well Mr. Lester, if the shoe fits-“ “YOU SPIKY PRICK!” Moe breathed heavily after cutting me off, “THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY TIME BEING OFF! THAT’S WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT!” Edgeworth butted in, glaring resentfully at his witness, “I hardly think that matters anymore.”

The judge nodded, “I DIDN’T HURT LYLA I DID NOT! ERAAAH! CURSE THESE CLOWN FEET!!”

After he was arrested and taken away for his own trial later, Kyle was found not guilty, I swelled with pride, I’d have to take Maya out for burgers, whether she knew it or not, she had earned us this paycheck.

ELEVEN PM

I sighed happily, content with my victory. I let sleep slowly take me on the couch in my office, thanks for the do overs universe, really handy.

MORNING

I woke up around six AM soaking in the surroundings of my bedroom, for once I had actually went home to sle- oh oh. Okay, uh, hm. What exactly was I supposed to do now, I sat up in bed, I need to talk to someone smarter than me, someone who might know what’s going on, or if I’m going insane. Maya maybe? She knows about freaky stuff like this, no, she’d probably freak out and try to drag me up to the mountain or something… after sifting through a few more options I land on Edgeworth, he’ll either believe me with our history and try to help, or he’ll think I’m insane and try to get me help, yeah.

OUTSIDE THE COURTHOUSE, BEFORE THE TRIAL

I waited outside for Edgeworth, tapping my arm with my fingers, when I saw him approach I stopped him at the door, “Miles I need help.” I said frantically as I grabbed his shoulders, the panic having really set in over the last few hours. He looked me up and down with concern, “Of course Wright, are you alright??” He asked, I took a deep breath, “I’m stuck in a timeloop, I’ve done this trial three times! I keep on waking up this morning after.” He stared at me wide eyed silently, “What did you take Wright?” He asked, “I didn’t take anything! This is real miles!” I shouted. He looked down in thought, “You are clearly unfit to work right now, stay here. I will go in and request postponing, we will go get you a drug test and if you pass I will consider the possibility that you are telling the truth.” He said flatly, “..Fine.” I replied.

OUTSIDE THE DOLLAR STORE

As I stood outside my phone pinged,

‘Nick what happened to the trial??’

Oh boy, I forgot to make up an excuse for Maya, whatever I’ll deal with it later, I pop my phone back in my pocket as Edgeworth exits the store with an all purpose drug test.

As he stares at the results sitting across from me at the Waffle House he clicks his tongue, “Okay, you’re just crazy.” I hang my head in my hands, “This is real Edgeworth.” I say quietly. “Yes well, I recommend getting help.” And he got up, and left.

I can’t say that was expected, dear god.

EIGHT PM

I spent the rest of the day at the park and ended up falling asleep on a bench, wondering what to do.

MORNING

Little Shop of Turnabouts: Little Shop of Horrors/Ace Attorney crossover fic! Apollo has to defend Seymour for Orin's "murder". This also means Apollo is going to cross examine a plant which I think gives him a one-up on Phoenix

Best Friends to Lovers: Claydar fic! Set 5(? 4? Something like that I think it's 5) years after Dual Destinies. Clay lives AU (obviously) Daryan has a lighter sentence than someone else would because I want him to. It's Clay and Daryan meeting each other and just like. Falling in live but there's ALSO going to be a mystery and angst. I can't help myself. I mean there's already angst I have 3 chapters up already.

Steel Samurai is Real AU: basically Penny is the Steel Samurai who is like. A vigilante who saves Maya's life and there's an alternate 1-3 and 1-4 and Mia lives. I think this is my only fic with Narumitsu at the moment. Also it has Feychols because I can't help myself.

Groundhog Clay: Timeloop Claydar! Basically once Clay dies he wakes up again, not on the day of the launch or anything, but one and a half years earlier on the day 4-3 begins. And so does Daryan. Neither of them really know what's going on but Daryan sees Clay and he KNOWS Clay wasn't there before and basically they've gotta get through the loop without Letouse or Clay dying

ASOLTAFKV the Squeakwel: a sequel to my fic A Series of Letters To and From Kurain Village (it's Feychols because of course it is). I've been posting my first drafts here as Turnabout Wedding Belles. Because it's a wedding fic. It has almost nothing to do with the previous fic except for the fact that at the end of the last one, the epilogue was a wedding invitation. Basically: there's been a murder at Penny and Maya's wedding and it's Phoenix and Trucy up against Klavier (ft Daryan and Ema as detective and forensics because I don't like making ocs and I like Daryan and Ema would be there for the wedding)

Mlem and Wooloo Solidarity: Penny and Simon Blackquill are friends. Besties, even. I just think the samurai nerds deserve to be samurai nerds together (platonically)

Royal AU Feychols: what it says on the tin. Basically Maya's a princess and Penny is her guard and an assassin attacks Penny (thinking she's Maya because she's wearing one of Maya's dresses. For the record when I wrote her getting shot in the shoulder with a crossbow I completely forgot about Franziska and her bullet shoulder I just thought it would be an area that would provide injury but probably wouldn't kill or prevent her from walking) and there's light magic (as in. Not a fleshed out magic system or anything it's kinda a thing but not a MAJOR thing) and I wrote one very good gay kiss that just happened to have a corpse in the background

Beep Beep Bitches It's the Mafia: mostly based on a dream I had where Dee was secretly Penny's mom because I like the trope of homoerotically having a weapon pointed at you. Penny's in the mafia now. Surprise. Also Mia lives and the Feys are chill Dahlia is cool and not murdery they're literally just vibing.

Swap AU (I'm Confused Already): the Feychols/Klapollo swap au where Apollo is Phoenix's assistant and Klavier is a PA hoping to be a star and Maya is a defense attorney and Penny is a musician prosecutor. A bunch of other people have switched places or roles in the story (like Mia and Kristoph) but there's very little of it right now it's mostly in the Frantic Tumblr Posts phase

Gay Gay Homosexual Gay: I already mentioned I like weapons pointed but gay. This has that and also Maya being possessed because that's also a concept I've been pondering for a while. So why not put both into one! Admittedly this is a new oneshot so it's more likely to be abandoned because I feel like I have stronger ideas for the other ones and I like writing multi chapter fics but if it gets published it should be fun

Bonus secret 11th fic that is like probably 3/4 of a year ish into planning? I don't remember when we started but it's been a while: another time loop fic. Centered around Penny and Kristoph and their relationships with their parents. Based off an RP from a server I'm in (I play Penny, friend played Kristoph, we're working on it together) also if you've seen me talking about my fucked up judge kinda oc (based on a guy who is only mentioned in 4-3 and is never shown or even named) and hus kid (same thing) this is basically The Thing With Them. It's nicknamed the Ancient Milfs and every time I try to explain it thoroughly I have to give like at least a page of backstory on Milf Lore

Hi this will be the main hub where I'll organize things for my In Stars and Time/ Ace Attorney crossover fic Turnabout Timeloop!

Turnabout Timeloop Setting info

Turnabout Timeloop takes place in a composite setting of both isat and ace attorney. Ka Bue is the location in which the Wright Anything Agency operates in this au. There are a few things that I ask you not think about too hard when it comes to merging these settings like how I am using the English localization names haha.

There is some level of tech I will be bringing in from the ace attorney universe to aid in the story such as finger print analysis and bicycles. Craft will be brought in from the ISAT universe as well and perhaps will take the place of some of the more modern tech you'd see in the ace attorney universe. Also yes spirit channeling is a thing in this setting but not too relevant to this particular story.

This fic takes place post game of ISAT so I highly recommend you play the game to its completion and ensure you've seen the two hats ending before proceeding.

As for Ace Attorney this takes place nebulously after the events of ace attorney 5 for character reasons i.e. Athena being involved in the story. The ace attorney timeline shouldn't be thought on too hard in terms of the real world dates things happened in game. I made some small retcons in the way certain characters behave to be more in line with Ace attorney 4. Major spoilers for aa4 and probably to a lesser extent 5 will be touched on. AA6 does not factor into this au.

So for any questions to the language barrier that may pose an issue for Siffrin being a defendant in Ka Bue it should be noted in this fic that many people are taught Vauguardian as a second language. (Much like how some countries will teach English for professional purposes). Apollo is specifically mixed Ka Buan and Vauguardian and fluent in both so he can act as a translator in court if the need arises but it should be assumed most characters can understand eachother unless stated otherwise.

I am kind of figuring things out as we go so feel free to submit any asks about the setting and/or characters and I'll do my best to answer them!
