Twilight Advent - Day 12
Twilight Advent 22, Day 12: Tell us some headcanons about a Twilight character you don't usually post about.
Gifs by @vantrisha
Here are some headcanons I have about Eleazar:
While he was still in the guard, he spent a lot of time with Chelsea, because their gifts were frequently used in combination on missions (Eleazar to identify promising gifts, Chelsea to bind them to the Volturi). However, they didn't get along too well until Afton came around.
While with the Volturi, Eleazar didn't agree with how they conducted their affairs in the South. This is something Jasper and he bonded over decades later.
Aro has kept in touch with Eleazar after he left the Volturi. Their letters have gotten fewer over the years but Eleazar is aware that it is only a matter of time before Aro calls on his services again. And he knows that if this were to happen, he'd have no other choice but to comply.
While Carmen naturally took to acting human around the Denalis human guests, Eleazar struggled with this for a while. And while he has a lot of respect for Carlisle and his lifestyle, he does not deem the 'human charade'-part of it to be desireable.
Out of the Denali clan, he is closest with Tanya. He also became fast friends with Garrett when he joined the coven.
Eleazar also shares a close friendship with Carlisle and Jasper.
He misses Spain (and Europe in general) a lot, however he enjoys the fact that in Alaska, they do not have to live as nocturnal creatures.
He never was much of a dancer before meeting Carmen, but she quickly turned that around. They really enjoy dancing together, especially to spanish and latin rhytms, as this reminds them of home.
Eleazar generally is a rather cautious and prudent character, however Carmen brings out a sunnier side in him. She regularly pulls him out of his comfort zone and he loves her for that.

The Things We Build
Twilight Advent 22, Day 2: What human skills/hobbies has Jasper learned since becoming a Cullen? Number of words: 995 Trigger Warning: None Rating: PC
I had struggled when I first joined the Cullenās, their peaceful way utterly foreign to the wars that I was used to. The quiet was almost too much to bear, my ears used to the clashing of bodies and the metallic sound that rang through the air as they were torn apart. We had moved a lot in the first decade, my slip ups forcing us to abandon many homes, just when we had settled in. It had gotten so bad, that Carlisle had to send me away, the Denaliās had been happy to host me. The isolation had helped some, but I could tell Alice missed the family she had seen for so long. My determination had increased tenfold, I never wanted to rip Alice away from them again. Luckily, we had stayed with them for less than a year.
We had been welcomed home with open arms, it was strange to think of a place as home, the Cullenās as my family rather than my coven. But they had slowly worked their way to have a place in my heart.
Esme had been one of my biggest supporters, her ability to love endless, when she got over her fear of me at least. It was her, who had asked me what hobbies I wanted to pick up. Something about making use of my time as an immortal and learning to enjoy life again. I had floated between hobbies for many years after that, reading and chess, dominating my time.
A decade had passed before we were moving to a new home, Esme had left early to renovate it and surprisingly had invited me to join her. I hadnāt known what to think of the request at the time, but Alice had pushed me to go, a secret smile on her face. Esme had offered me the job of deconstructing a few walls she wanted gone, but I found no joy in the action, these hands had already caused too much destruction. Emmett had found immense joy in using his strength to knock through walls, making a game out of it. Trying to take the most amount of wall he could in one action.
Yet when Esme had offered to show me how to restore the wood of the porch, I found myself eagerly agreeing, despite having no interest in carpentry. Emmett had left us, after completing his job, having no interest in the rest of the process. Esme slowed down without his infectious energy, moving at a humanās pace. She explained that there was a simple joy in taking your time to create something, that it almost felt like cheating to use our speed and strength to complete the job, when I had asked.
So thatās how I found myself gently sanding the boards of our new wrap around porch, each stroke painfully slow. But somehow in the company of Esme, who quietly sang or hummed to herself, I didnāt mind. The emotional climate I felt coming from her, was a content peacefulness. Something that had been sorely missing from my previous life. I basked in them, greedily soaking myself in it.
It had taken us six months to finish the house, but those quiet days restoring the house with Esme had quickly become some of my favourite memories. Well memories that didnāt contain Alice anyway. The experience had bonded us in a way that I hadnāt really had with the rest of the Cullenās, except maybe Rosalie. It led to an interest in carpentry, mine and Aliceās room rapidly filling with various statues and ornaments, I had made. My interest quickly expanded into furniture, which with Esmeās approval and guidance, meant that several of my pieces adorned our new home.
Soon I was spending most of my time creating furniture, the local charities in the area, gladly accepting anything I had to offer them. It felt good to be creating and giving back to the community. Slowly but surely, I saw my hands as tools to create not destroy. It was that day that I felt another shackle of my previous life leave me.
My thirst still wasnāt at a level any of us was happy with, but I no longer felt like a monster. I had moments of self-doubt and crippling fear of what I was, but Alice was there for me, every single time. My own personal sun that pushed away any grey clouds that littered my sky. But she was so much more than that, she was my everything, as I was hers. A monster could never deserve Alice nor love as deeply and completely as us. It didnāt erase the monster I was in the past, but I no longer wallowed in self-pity.
I finally understood why Edward played piano, the joy of creating something, was unmatched. Finally seeing a vision come to fruition. Over time, my pieces became more detailed, I spent weeks craving small details. Whether it be in the legs of chairs, the corners of a coffee table or the hair on a statue. I found fun in the minutia, my enhanced eyes allowing me to create detail that could rival the masters.
But nothing was more calming than sitting with a piece of wood, slowly whittling it away to form a shape, then chiselling in the details. I could lose myself in the creative process, switch off until I had decompressed. I would never admit it, but Esme was right about creating at a human pace, it added another layer to the joy. One I wasnāt sure I would ever find the words to describe.
Now every house was littered with Jasper Whitlock originals, proudly on display. But my favourite part of moving, quickly became the time I spent with Esme, before the rest of us moved in. Working away in the summer sun, to restore a home for our family.Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā

Twilight Advent Calendar Prompts
Dec. 18 - Tell us how the gathering in Breaking Dawn impacted one of the witnesses that came.
Kebi saw her husband as a coward. Aside from Alistair, everyone else was willing to stand up to oppression. But Amun fears the Volturi so much, he was willing to turn tail. He didn't want to see the loss of Demetri staring him in the face. He stayed because Benjamin shamed him into it, but as soon as he gave his evidence, he took Kebi's hand and ran for it.
Amun had always been strong and forceful; Kebi was a slave he changed to serve him, and the transformation enhanced her loyalty, bonding her to him even more. So Kebi will always stay by Amun's side. But now she sees he would rather hide than fight for what's right, and she'll carry that knowledge into eternity.

Okay you've got me curious, what went wrong at Rosalie and Emmett's "flop" wedding?
Picture it: England, January 1991.
After Jasper's latest unfortunate "slip up," he causes enough of a ~kerfluffle~ in Forks that the family decides it's best to leave for a while. Because it's all been rather unexpected (even Alice had fuzzy details at best; simply knowing they'd have to move "soon"), they decide to return to Carlisle's hometown of London, England. It's in the dead of winter: it'll be cold, dreary, snowy, and dark. So they'll be safe ... or so they believe.
Rosalie, believing now to be the perfect opportunity to cheer everyone up, decides she and Emmett will have a "small, casual" wedding next month. Rosalie (along with Alice and Esme) prep as best they can and are able to find a "cute, old chapel" two weeks from now. Meanwhile, everything else appears to go smoothly. Despite it being the dead of winter, Rosalie believes this wedding will be the best one yet. Alice begins to receive visions of a puzzling and mysterious nature but decides to reveal them only to Carlisle (and, obviously, Edward) so as to keep everyone's spirits high.
It's the day of Rosalie's umpteenth wedding; her first in eight years. Everyone arrives at the chapel only to be greeted to an empty chapel. Well, except for one very old (and extremely confused, according to Edward) woman. This woman appears to be at least ninety and, because of her muddled mind, Edward isn't sure where she belongs. But, she's not bothering anyone and is quietly muttering the rosary to herself in a corner. Everyone hopes she'll leave before the ceremony begins.
The priest arrives about fifteen minutes later, again appearing a little rushed and flustered. Edward picks up from the priest's mind that his previous engagement didn't go quite so well and he's a little frazzled. Again, Edward decides to keep this information to himself so as to not dampen everyone's moods. The priest walks over to Emmett and introduces himself, asking if Emmett is nervous for today. Emmett, the priest, and Carlisle commence with the small talk while the others make ready the chapel.
Suddenly Alice gasps loudly. Everyone looks to her and she points to a window as beautiful, bright rays of sunshine begin streaming into the chapel. It appears today, shockingly, will be a beautiful day: full of sunshine and warmth in the middle of this English winter. No one knows what to do as the rays of the sun begin to make the Cullen's sparkle. The old woman in the corner ceases muttering the rosary and begins shouting "The devil is here! The devil is here! The end is neigh!" at the Cullen's. She attempts to beat Esme (who's standing closest to her) with her cane while continuing to shout about the approaching apocalypse and how she believes the Cullen's are possessed.
The priest tries to calmly reassure everyone that "Matthew and Cynthia" can still have a beautiful wedding while wondering why "Matthew" and "Cynthia" (aka Emmett and Rosalie, whom the priest has confused with his next wedding) are sparkling. All of this, according to Edward who's reading the priest's thoughts and will tell his family later. With little other choice, the Cullen's decide to, literally, run out of the chapel and into the corresponding woods, where they'll hide until nightfall. The priest attempts to look for his clients (Matthew and Cynthia) but after about ten minutes gives up. The confused old woman can still be heard from inside the chapel continuing to shout "The end is nigh!" until the priest calms her down about fifteen minutes later.
Once it's pitch black, the Cullen's return to their rented home and decide it's best to leave England as soon as possible and visit their "Denali cousins" for a while.

Dec. 8 - Besides baseball, which other vampire-level sport have the Cullens tried out? How do they modify it to be more challenging/fun?
HOCKEY š š„
Definitely hockey. Their location is ideal in Forks and I would imagine most if not all of their locations throughout life have a pretty solid winter season. It's competitive and physical. Emmett and Rosalie would thrive, Alice and Jasper would be all about finesse. Carlisle and Edward would be the smartest players on the ice. Esme and Bella would just have a lot of fun with it, and Esme would keep an eye out to make sure they weren't cheating.
So all in all, it's cold. They could play at night if need be. There's no waiting around for thunderstorms, although they could have some big collisions. So yeah, definitely hockey.

@jessicanjpa Day 8: Besides baseball, which other vampire-level sport have the Cullens tried out? How do they modify it to be more challenging/fun?
There was a time when all their sports had gotten a little stagnant. Then in the late 80s/early 90s, Emmett started reading Calvin and Hobbes and he got a brilliant idea:
They should play Calvinball
(Calvinball is a made up game that Calvin and Hobbes play that uses a variety of equipment from other sports and the only rule is that you can't play it the same way twice. It's a running gag that they're always playing the game with ridiculous rules. Here's an example strip:

Surprisingly, Esme was the one that was most enthusiastic about the game. Rosalie was down for it because the idea was so Emmett. Edward, Jasper, and Carlisle struggled at first because of the lack of structure, but they eventually got the hang of it. Now they play it at least once a year. Emmett and Jasper still talk about the time they made Edward drink fish blood to get out of a penalty box.

Twilight Advent - Dec. 1 - Name five things that make Rosalie smile.
Emmettās laugh. Emmettās everything, really, but especially his laugh
The time a bee almost landed on human Bella and Edward literally dove in between to scare it away
The time Rosalie schooled Jacob on car mechanics and Edward got sulky, explaining under his breath that it was because Jacob thought to himself that Rosalie is the perfect woman and Edward got offended on Bellaās behalf. Rosalie liked Jacob more after that
The first time Bella really stood up to Alice and refused to act like a paper doll ever again. Emmett clapped
Dew drops on flowers and/or spiderwebs
#twilightadvent22#bonus: when emmett pranked charlie by implying he needed to get a birthday present for rosalie and he panicked and gave her a pocket knife#mine#twilight

āļø Dec. 1 - Name five things that make Rosalie smile.Ā āļø
(one) Skiing. Her coordination might be better than the average humanās, but there is no use for the additional strength or speed. She has a whole section of her closet reserved for ski jackets and pants, helmets and an elaborate collection of ski goggles. Of course it is completely normal to have every inch of skin covered while skiing, but even when it isnāt... high in the mountains the snow makes everything sparkle anyways. She is great at it, and she loves how parents point at her and tell their kids:Ā āonly if you keep going to your ski lessons each year, you learn to ski like that.āĀ Emmett tries his best to keep up on his snowboard (and breaks about five of them each year), but is extremely excited that his wife beats him every single time he tries. The rest of the family is only invited on rare occasions, but when they are, everyone is on their best behaviour.
(two) Firsts. The longer you live, the rarer they are. During the pandemic it was the first time she actually worked as a doctor, and took great pride in it. Although her practical experience was very limited (and she detested making mistakes), she was soon a very valuable member of the staff, always willing to enter the saddest rooms, the rooms her collegeas were avoiding.Ā
(three) Lego. A few years ago, Rosalie bought Nessie a Lego-set, hoping to spark a life-long interest in science and engineering. Rosalie, however, lacked the patience to wait for Nessie to finish building it and soon took over. Esme interfered on Nessieās behalf, but was easily distracted by the possibility of all those coloured bricks. Now Rosalie and Esme spend many nights watching LEGO Masters and joining in with their own elaborate constructions. The rest of the families knows the living room is not accessible on those nights.
(four) Piano. Although she immensely dislikes being bested, she learned at a young age that in music, she would always be in second place. When she was young, she and her younger brother both took piano lessons. At first she tried to keep up, frustrated every time she made a mistake in a piece he managed to play flawlessly. But after a while, she stopped trying to play the same pieces and just enjoined the sound of his music. A few weeks after being changed, she heard Edward play the piano for the first time, and for a brief moment she felt at home.
(five) Honesty. Before Emmett joined the family, Carlisle, Esme and Edward were always careful with what they said. Always polite. Always considerate. Always politely suffering in silence. Rosalieās anger was loud. Her resentment was clear for everyone to see. Emmettās honesty was something else entirety. He was as quick to laugh as he was to curse and easily shared every mistake he made. His attempts at flirting were awkward at first, but every misplaced joke, every incomplete sentence, every stutter, made her believe that Emmett was the one man she could trust. And - thankfully - he makes her laugh.Ā

Twilight Advent Day 5
Masterpost/prompts
Dec. 5 - What's one thing Esme loves about each member of her family? (went to town here a bit. ~500 words)
There's a line in Ithaca which is one of those moments when you've written something as an author that absolutely captures what you see as the essence of the character? That one. And that line goes like this, from Carlisle: "Edward had a very special place in my heart. But I knew that each of us occupied the same place in Esme's heart--all of it."
She loves everything about every one of her family members. She loves when they are angry. She loves when they are silly. She loves the way her children fight, and the way her husband is stubborn, and she loves the peace and quiet and the noise. There's no "not love" switch for Esme. So here is a list of things she finds particularly special, in descending order of joining the family.
She loves Jake's sunniness. He reminds her of Edward, but stripped of Edward's broodiness, as Edward might have been had he grown as a human.
She loves wondering about the world with Renesmee. Renesmee has gotten to grow, and to explore, and to see so many things for the first time. Seeing her do all those things let Esme see through a new light, also.
Bella is her fellow optimist. Everyone else in the family to some degree or other, is always waiting for the other shoe to drop, sometimes a whole shelf full of them. Bella is the other person she can count on to go, "Yeah, I think it's going to be fine, in the end."
Jasper's meticulousness gives her a great deal of peace. He is careful about everything and easy to trust. He is also running away the best listener in the family.
Alice is completely unpredictable and that reminds Esme not to take things too seriously--Carlisle is a planner and very methodical; Alice's spontaneity is breath of chaotic good.
Because of his happiness with his life, Emmett is the child who most gives her back her motherhood. She has deeply maternal feelings for all her children and her grandchild, but Emmett is the one who uncomplicatedly returns them, always and without complaint or tantrum. She admires and loves Rosalie for her forthrightness and tenacity. She is so proud of having such a strong daughter, and loves all that she learns from her. (And sometimes Rose is a little sharp about Carlisle in ways that Esme agrees with but would never state.) Edward's purity of heart is the thing she loves most and most drives her up the wall. He doggedly pursues whatever he thinks is right, even when he's completely wrong, and that's infuriatingly admirable. Carlisle has the same fatal flaw as Edward and she loves that about him, too. In addition to that, she loves his sense of humor. In public, and even in front of their children to some extent, he is buttoned up and careful. Alone with her, he is bawdy and suggestive and wickedly dark and those private moments when he is sharing with her something he'd never let anyone else hear him say aloud are her favorite times.

Twilight Advent 22, Day 4: Pick a Twilight couple (canon or AU) and tell us/draw their favorite way to snuggle.
Obviously, I have to do Alice and Jasper (it's become less of a choice and more of an obsession lately, but I'm not complaining):
ALICE loves to join Jasper on their bed when he's reading on their bed. She'll dive under his left arm and place her head on his chest, resting on her side and looking up at his face. She then draws her legs to her chest and curls herself up, resuming the position she was in when she woke, the position she's always felt most protected and comfortable in. Alice has no issues spending hours like this, switching between watching Jasper's expression change as his story progresses and seeing what their future holds in store. Jasper wasn't entirely comfortable with her doing this at the beginning because with her head resting on his chest like that, she had a full view of the most mangled part of his neck.
Jasper didn't enjoy her doing this at the beginning because it always ended with dark clouds showing up at the edge of her emotional canvas. With her head resting on his chest like that, Alice had a full view of the most mangled part of his neck and that frequently led to her thoughts wandering. She imagined how he might have gotten those scars and despaired over how close she'd come to losing him before they even met. However, as their years together progressed, these musings got rarer and rarer, and Jasper eventually started to enjoy her presence as he read.
JASPER isn't a big snuggler per se, but he'll frequently put his head into Alice's lap when they're alone. It doesn't matter if she's sitting or laying, the thing he enjoys about it is when her fingers start running through his hair, occasionally brushing his scalp and sending small bursts of her undiluted emotions into his body. It reminds him of the day they met (you can read all about why in Chapter 2 of Recollections) and the way his mother used to put him to sleep when he was a child. Alice running her hands through his hair never fails to take his thoughts off whatever is bothering him and it calms him down.

First Dance
The wedding was fast approaching, Rosalie was basically floating around the house, finishing all the last-minute details. I still hadnāt gotten them a wedding present and I was fast running out of time. But what did you get the sister who hated you? Sure, we had had our moments of getting along. But now she had Emmett, those were far and few between. Not that Emmett didnāt try, in fact he often tried too hard, leading us to have explosive arguments.
My fingers paused over the ivory keys of my new piano. I longed to bang my head on the thing, but I didnāt want to break the instrument.
āWhatās wrong?ā Esme was by my side in an instant.
I let out a long sigh, āstill trying to figure out what to get the happy couple.ā
āOh hunny.ā Esme placed a hand on my shoulder, giving it a tender squeeze.
I resumed my playing, my hands flowing over the keys, the familiar notes of Esmeās Favourite filling the room.
āWhy donāt you compose something for them?ā Esme asked softly.
I scoffed. āThey would hate that.ā
Esme gave me a look. āRosalie would love to have something special like that in her wedding.ā
āHow many times has Rosalie threatened to destroy my piano?ā I shook my head.
āBut has she ever done it?ā
āNo⦠But thatās only because sheās afraid to upset you and Carlisle.ā
āOr is it because she knows that playing is the only thing that keeps you sane?ā Esme countered.
āRosalie doesnāt think that highly of me, I would know.ā I tapped my temple.
Esme frowned, āthink about it at least.ā
āI will.ā
I could never deny Esme anything, especially since I had returned from rough years. I let out another sigh of frustration. Maybe Esmeās idea could work, it took years for Esmeās favourite to be completed. Yet with how happy planning a wedding seemed to make Rosalie, maybe this piece could have years to develop too.
I ran my hands over the keys, focusing on how I felt about Rosalie, how happy she had been since she found Emmett. My hands responding with various keys, although there was no melody. I continued onwards for nearly two hours, before I made any progress. But one melody led to another and within an hour, I had a rough draft. I was reasonably happy with it. Of course, I could hear every single flaw in it, but that was the composerās burden.
~~###~~
With the wedding next Saturday, I had finally gotten the piece to a place where I felt comfortable playing it for others. Esme had been the first and offered her usual praise. But the one I was most nervous for was Rosalie, I was sure she was going to hate it. But with more encouragement than strictly necessary from Esme, I prepared myself to go speak to Rosalie.
I took an unneeded breath for confidence, then knocked on her door.
āYes Edward?ā She answered, making no move to open the door.
āCan I speak to you for a moment?ā I asked, hating how nervous my voice sounded.
I heard her let out an irritated sound and put her hairbrush down on her vanity. She was by the door less than a second later, she opened it dramatically, sweeping her hand in an exaggerated come in motion. I tried to keep the irritation from my face, stepping into the room, almost immediately choking on the smell of perfume.
Baby, rung her mental voice.
Not wanting to sit on the bed, I hung awkwardly in the middle of the room. Rosalie went back to her vanity, combing her long hair, a human habit she still hadnāt dropped.
I cleared my throat, unsure where to start.
Are you going to stand there all day or get to the point? Her mental voice was as irritated as the look on her face.
I shook my head, āwould you accompany to the piano for a moment?ā
I guess he wants to show off again, ugh. āSure, did you have something to show me?ā Her voice was kinder than her mental one.
āI wanted to show you something, yes.ā My voice shook with nerves. āI truly hope you like it.ā
You seem nervous is everything ok?
I ignored her question, running instead to the piano, where I took a seat to wait for her. Rosalie went at a humanās pace, a habit she still employed often, hating our nature almost as much as me. She hovered at the bottom of the stairs, realising for the first time that we were alone. I had requested it, I never wanted Emmett to hear the piece, if she didnāt approve.
āWhere is Emmett?ā She asked, as she took a seat next to me.
āI requested some alone time with you, to play you this piece, if thatās ok?ā I replied softly.
Rosalie was still uncomfortable being left alone with men, but even I could admit, that she had made leaps and bounds since her early days.
āI guess?ā Her reply was more of a question than an answer, but I took it as one, none the less.
āTheyāll be back within the hour, try not to worry.ā I almost reached for her, but thought better of it.
Rosalie nodded, turning her head back towards the keys. Come on then.
With her permission I began to play, focusing so hard on making sure it was perfect, I didnāt hear a word of Rosalieās inner monologue. When the last key was still ringing through the room, I turned to face her, fearing the worse. But I was wrong. Rosalie turned to me with tears in her eyes, not that they would ever spill and a hand to her mouth.
āThat-that was beautiful Edward.ā Her voice broke on the first word.
āReally?ā I asked.
She nodded, seemingly lost for words. Her mental voice was also quiet, lost in a daydream of her and Emmett dancing to the piece.
āI was hoping to gift you the piece, for the wedding.ā I stumbled out, unsure of what to make of her reaction.
āYou were?ā Her voice was stunned. Thank you, Edward, itās beautiful. It will make the perfect first dance for us.
It was my turn to be stunned, āthe first dance?ā
She nodded; her voice still lost to her.
This is why youāre my brother Edward, I know we fight but this, this is beautiful. Thank you so much, Iāll treasure it. Forever.
I barely had time to process her thoughts before her arms wrapped around me in a crushing hug. Now, this was the side of Rosalie I loved.

Twilight Advent Calendar Prompts
Dec. 13- What college major did each one of Bella's human friends choose?
Jessica - Public Relations - I figure she's able to get along with pretty much anyone and can put on a great fake face -- only Edward knows her vitrolic thoughts. She's good with people.
Angela - Occupational Therapist - she loves making a difference in kids' lives and is so patient and sweet with her clients.
Mike - Sports Medicine - also good with people, very friendly, I think he's be great at soothing an athlete while doing physical therapy.
Eric - Film - I see him loving movies and wanting to work behind the scenes, maybe editing or sound mixing.
Lauren - Meteorology - she always wanted to be the pretty weathergirl on the local news, but quickly dropped out when she realized she had to know science and stuff.
Tyler - he works at Pump 'N Save, boy's dumb as rocks, sorry.
Ben - Scientist - he's smart and studious and I just see him in a lab with a microscope.

Twilight Advent ā22
Day 1 (12.1.22) -Ā āName five things that make Rosalie smile.ā
Iām going to avoid the (very typical?) answer ofĀ āEmmettā and try to rephrase the question as: āOutside of Emmett, whatĀ things make Rosalie smile?ā
Number one: I think the first would probably have to be her ~engineering~ knowledge. I can see her, in her ample spare time, being the mechanic of the family. Got engine troubles? Rosalie can fix it. A/C on the fritz? Rosalieās already working on it. When they need to decide on (for example) a new fridge even though they donāt need one, Rosalie has at least eight choices sheās researched thoroughly and has a PowerPoint presentation of all the pros and cons of why this brand of fridge is the best and why they should avoid that brand, etc. And you better believe she calls a family meeting for these types of decisions. And, honestly, everyone shows up. I think sheās really empowered by the praise she gets from the family for her practical knowledge of, like,Ā āOh, Rosalie knows how to restart the wifiā (or whatever). As well as Rosalie knowing that she alone is able to take care of herself and provide for the ones she loves.
Number two: Iāve always had this headcanon that Rosalie makes at least one human friend during the school year. Itās someone (usually a girl, but not always) whoās overlooked, treated badly by the ācool kidsā, and/or just someone who RosalieĀ āsensesā might have a difficult home life and befriends. Having theĀ āPopular/Beautiful Girl Rosalie Haleā as their friend always subtly helps their self-esteem and kinda changes the way they look at themselves. After graduating they keep in touch, sending each other letters throughout the years and that sorta thing. Rosalie is also a great pen pal and is the one who keeps the friendships afloat years later. Iād like to think that Rosalie is still friends with the girl she met in high school in 1968, you know? Obviously sheād have to photo shop pictures and she always finds a clever way to avoid the subject ofĀ āreal lifeā meet ups, but sheās always good about sending letters and even Christmas/holiday presents. Iāve always thought that thereās at least one or two of Rosalieās high school friends at her weddings.
Number three: Rosalie and Esme go on vacations, just the two of them, once a year. They donāt go to Isle Esme but itās always something Rosalie looks forward to because itās a chance for the mother/daughter facade to fade away and they simply have aĀ āgirls weekendā together. They talk about their husbands, their hopes and dreams, their plans for the future; the things they wish could change, and even what makes them sad. They simply spend time together as two women whoāve known each other for a long time. They usually go to a small town stateside and itās never longer than five days. They rent a simple room at a mom and pop bed and breakfast, maybe spend a day shopping; itās all very casual and no frills (because she knows āno frillsā will make Esme happy and Rosalie tries to be accommodating - at least once a year). But Rosalie absolutely loves the one-on-one time sheās able to spend with Esme.Ā
Number four:Ā I think Rosalie is secretly out in the world putting out patents for various technological things. Like, sheās writing (anonymous, of course) journal articles about the latest and greatest technology in the hopes some plucky astrophysicist student will use it in their research. I fully believe that, at the end of the day, Rosalie really does wanna help people and the āmean girlā part of Rosalie only goes so far. And the way Rosalie can help people from afar is by drawing up ideas thatāll help advance technology and make peopleās lives a little easier. Hearing that so-and-so used some of her research to create the latest ~whatever~ really does bring a smile to Rosalieās face.Ā
Number five: I mean, itās not Rosalie if I didnāt bring up a wedding so here we go. I think Rosalie really does love the planning side of weddings. Aside from knowing that sheās going to (re)marry the love of her life, I think she really just goes all out as far as wedding themes and planning. She researches everything, has charts out the wazoo, reserves theĀ āperfectā venue like five years in advance, and really finds comfort in knowing that her wedding will be perfect and that she did it by herself. Sometimes with Emmettās input, but itās mostly a Rosalie thing.
