hmm... a lot of it i think involves the simple horror of being in an alien's body on an alien planet and nobody seems bothered by it except you. another one is that she gets the impression that her lack of empathy makes her lesser as a hero, and her natural reaction to that is to start trying even harder. how do i put it... marize likes being a hero well enough but she does it because she isn't good at anything else. she couldn't be like her brother and her parents so in her mind, she's already been deemed a failure and is working to catch up. anything less than perfect is unacceptable to her. ive said before that i'm not even sure that she enjoys the violence as much as she enjoys being good at it. she's ruthless and efficient and kills things rather than saving them because it's the most straight forward option. THAT is why the other Ultras worry about her (not dislike her. theyre worried about her wellbeing). but she thinks she is incapable of being worthy of anything. and it slowly eats at her.

(ADLN Inspiration) Background Music Cheat Sheet [Teaser-y Spoilers]

Well, while I'm still trying to get out of "Chapter 8 writing hell" because I am totally... totally out of it atm (been feeling super ultra mega sick), have a little teaser post.

This one's just about my writing process! If you've been a reader of the fanfic (pinned in profile), you know by now that I really like listening to music that sets the tone or mood of the scene that I'm writing! And very recently, I hit upon a specific bit of creative intention / ideas. I want to use very specific tracks / songs for very specific things. Chapter 6 kickstarted the idea, but the rest of this just suddenly came to me out of nowhere. So, here's a little taste of what I've been thinking about.

Or rather, the music I think I'll be listening to for later, or the near-future, story events! Thank ya thank ya. It's just so people can get an idea of what "environment" I put myself in for writing. And if it might serve as some unexpected inspiration for anyone, then more power to you. Wheeeeeeeeeeee.

Yeah... I sorta reeeecently fell in love with the tracks from "PL vs PW" and now they're very much stuck in my head. And "Spell Breaker" is literally my new favorite "everything ever". (I really thought "Pursuit - Cornering Together" was going to be my one and only. But I've betrayed itttttt- sob). But it also gave me inspiration I didn't consider, so it was a big help.

And I'll fix up any other little tracks if I've missed any that I would definitely listen to. Editing magic and all that.

Now, I sure HOPE I get better from this dumb sickly feeling as soon as possible because all I want to do right now is WRITE, DAMN IT.

Fra le studentesse che abitano con me, Annarita è quella "misurata" o, diciamo, riservata. Che non significa che sia timida, vuol dire solo che si lascia andare solo con chi vuole lei.

Con il suo modo di essere molto controllato, in qualche modo compensa le altre due coinquiiline. il suo essere "seria" controbilancia il carattere sempre ultra-allegro di Veronica, e il suo essere "elegante" compensa il temperamento molto sportivo di Violetta.

Forse è così perché semplicemente è un po' più grande delle altre due: ha la mia stessa età, 23 anni, cioè, per la precisione, ha un mese più di me.

È anche leggermente più alta di me, l'unica ad esserlo, anche se di pochi centimetri (invece, Violetta è altra praticamente uguale a me, Veronica è più bassa).

Ed è l'unica delle tre coinquiline che è anche mia collega, cioè studiamo nella stessa facoltà. Non solo: anche lei, come me, ci è arrivata dopo un cambio di facoltà (io da ingegneria, lei da farmacia), ed essere in casa con una persona che ha vissuto un'esperienza simile alla mia da questo tipo, mi fa sembrare tutto molto più normale e mi aiuta tantissimo.

Di aspetto è la più magra, e ha i capelli neri lisci lunghi, qualche volta li raccoglie in una coda ma il più delle volte li tiene slegati.

Una differenza rispetto alle altre due ragazze, è che Annarita qualche volta si trucca per uscire, non che ne abbia bisogno, anzi a me piace moltissimo quando invece esce struccata con la sua bellezza naturale, per esempio quando usciamo la mattina insieme se abbiamo lezione all'università alla stessa ora.

A proposito: avere una collega dell'università è una cosa per me particolarissima che, non lo nego, mi eccita un po'. Nel senso che, quando siamo in facoltà e per esempio stiamo seguendo una lezione, o quando studiamo in biblioteca, io vedo e noto gli sguardi di tutti gli studenti che la osservano ammirati, mi piace sentirmi privilegiato pensando che io, e solo io, unico maschio al mondo, l'ho vista mezz'ora prima che dormiva beatamente tra lenzuola, attraverso la porta aperta della sua camera, o l'ho vista passare che andava verso il bagno di casa in mutande. Mi verrebbe da dirlo a quei ragazzi che la guardano in facoltà, ma mi è sufficiente pensarlo tra me e me, tanto loro mi conoscono e lo sanno, che sono suo coinquilino.

Il fatto che Annarita sia una ragazza misurata non vuol dire che sia chiusa, anzi, capita che mi faccia delle confidenze, soprattutto la sera, dopo cena. È naturalmente la coinuqilina con cui mi capita più spesso di studiare insieme (per esempio si fa interrogare da me se ho dato un esame prima di lei) e quando studiamo insieme, iniziamo a parlare della materia dell'esame e, soprattutto se è sera tardi, finiamo con lei che mi racconta le sue ansie e mi chiede consigli. Final Fantasy Record Keeper Wind-Weak Dark Odin Fight

The Dark Odin fights in the Final Fantasy Record Keeper (FFRK) mobile game are quest level 500.

If you defeat a Dark Odin Magicite boss, you get a Black-Armored Echoes accessory. This accessory adds moderate resistance to all elements.

You can get up to 5 Black-Armored Echoes accessories by defeating 5 different Dark Odin Magicite bosses.

So far, I’ve been able to beat 4 different Dark Odin bosses so I already have 4 Black-Armored Echoes accessories. I talk more about these fights in other posts.

Anyway, I really wanted to get my 5th Black-Armored Echoes accessory so I decided to try another Dark Odin Magicite fight. This time, I set my sights on the wind-weak version of Dark Odin.

I do have some wind relics although I haven’t really done much with them. Haven’t even really built a wind team.

Would have loved to bring my physical fire elemental team to this fight. Said team stars Genesis Rhapsodos from Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (#ad) as my main DPS. 

Genesis is currently my absolute, most favorite Final Fantasy char. He’s the reason why I’m playing Final Fantasy Record Keeper. Have all of his Soul Breaks and he’s as fully built and maxed out as possible.

I bring Genesis to every fight I can, and try to use him as much as possible. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s gonna be possible to bring him to fight against the wind-weak version of Dark Odin.

That’s because you need to hit Dark Odin with the element you want to fight him with. I could get past that since Genesis can just equip a Spellblade-type ability that deals wind damage.

But Dark Odin also hits really hard and it’s necessary not to let the fight run too long otherwise your party will automatically get ejected.

Didn’t really want to deal with all these crazy mechanics. I just want my last Black-Armored Echoes so wind team it is.

I could have gone with a physical wind team. Actually, I think my physical wind tech is better than my magical one but I found myself looking at my magical wind-type Soul Breaks for a number of reasons:

I don’t want to use Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII yet even though I have his Awakened Arcane Soul Break (AASB) and even his True Arcane Soul Break (TASB; also known as Arcane Dyad Soul Break (ADSB)) since I don’t have his Synchro Arcane Soul Break (SASB).

Most of the teams I could build seem to lean towards the physical side of things. So I want to try a magical team this time.

Furthermore, I have Cait Sith’s (from Final Fantasy VII) Awakening, Glint+ Soul Break (G+), and Ultra Soul Break (USB).

Cait Sith is one of the best supports for magic-based teams. I’ve gotten to use him a bit, and he’s really pretty good.

He can be of use for physical teams too since he can sing and dance but he’s really more of a support and buffer for mages and mind-based attackers.

So I looked through the list of magical wind-type relics that I have and came up with this team:

Alphinaud Leveilleur from Final Fantasy XIV

Have Alphinaud’s Awakening, Glint+, and Burst Soul Break (BSB).

Created the Dark Valefor and Neo Bahamut summon-type abilities for Alphinaud although they’re both stuck at rank 4 since I ran out of the resources needed to max them out.

Also got Alphinaud the dagger artifact that adds a small boost to wind damage.

Fujin from Final Fantasy VIII

Have Fujin’s magical wind Chain Soul Break (CSB), all of her Glints, her Arcane Overstrike Soul Break (AOSB), and her Overstrike Soul Break (OSB).

Fujin is basically only here for her Chain. Too bad I don’t have her Awakening or Sync.

Cait Sith from FInal Fantasy VII

Cait Sith is quipped with Allegro con Moto and Mage’s Hymn to speed up and buff my mages.

Lenna Charlotte Tycoon from Final Fantasy V

Lenna served as my team’s healer. Have basically her entire kit, including both of her AASBs and her Sync.

The relics I’m missing for Lenna can be bought from the The Record Lab although haven’t bothered to buy any of them since I already have her good Soul Breaks.

Ultimecia from Final Fantasy VIII

Ultimecia served as my other DPS alongside Alphinaud. Only have her Sync and OSB. Wish I had her Awakening too.

Made her the Chain Tornado ability though it’s also stuck at rank 4. Already had rank 5 Meltdown so that was Ultimecia’s other ability.

Also already had a staff artifact that boosts wind damage. It just wasn’t fully leveled so maxed it out now for this fight.

If I’m remembering correctly, Ultimecia’s Sync was the very first one that I got. Used it a bit back then but wasn’t overly impressed with it and Ultimecia’s damage output.

Well, to be fair, that was the only relic that I had for Ultimecia and I didn’t really invest too much into her precisely because of only having 1 Soul Break for her.

But now I even gave her Crystal Waters and unlocked parts of her Record Board. Even made her a 6-star ability, as aforementioned.

Was super impressed with both Alphinaud and Ultimecia. They were dealing really awesome damage during the fight.

I’m sure this was largely thanks to the buffs from Cait Sith’s Awakening and his equipped abilities. And Fujin’s Chain also comes with a large magic buff.

So all of that really enabled my 2 DPS to take off chunks of Dark Odin’s HP once they were under the effects of their BDL relics.

Had to do this fight a few times before I got the win though. The Sync and Awakening effects would end before I could finish off Dark Odin which was not good because I didn’t have any more to cast except Ultimecia’s and Fujin’s OSBs.

It really made me wish that I had Alphinaud’s Sync and Ultimecia’s Awakening and even Fujin’s Sync and Awakening so I could keep going. Thankfully, I somehow managed to make this team work. Got the win in 32.51 seconds.

I enjoyed using this team and would love to be able to do it again. I really hope I can get more magical wind-type relics, particularly Alphinaud’s Sync and Ultimecia’s AASB.

layton music propaganda go!

short little list of some specific minutiae in random layton tracks that i have feelings for in no particular order:

folsense (live): the wistful/melancholic calm vibes of this live version are SO good i used to put this on and fall asleep to it all the time. anyway the claves on beat 2 of every other measure in the second half that starts at 2:35 <3. specifically the second one that happens at 2:46 that is ultra crisp

the looming tower (live): the accordions are so dramatic and the violin soloist goes OFF!! the beat being made by what sounds like a cello/bass player on the side slapping the upper bout of their instrument (i forgot what that technique is called) and being able to hear the bass strings rattle from being plucked.. 🤌

puzzles reinvented/puzzles 3: one of the two tracks that got me through my assignments in highschool/undergrad i'd put this baby on and i'd be nonstop productive for hours it was crazy. anyway there are 2 ostinatos going on at the same time for most of the track, one being that phrase in the beginning that keeps going in the upper register and the other one starting a little later around 0:20 in a lower register, which creates that feeling of time ticking and passing quickly. there's the allegro version of this that plays when you gotta GO and so it has the 2 ostinatos right off the bat to have that extra gogogogogo feeling. also the movie was so based for using this theme for the first puzzle + the lead up to this track playing is so good it's one of my fav moments in the movie

puzzle battle: the puzzles reinvented melody at 1:10-1:23 right before it loops

don paolo's theme (live): the fact that it's purely an accordion duet and you can hear them switching leads from left to right w headphones

the village starts moving: the accordion in the back holding the quiet drone note the whole time that gives the track that unsettled unresting feeling (the nonstop chords that keep the beat + dragging accordion melody with longer notes help w that too)

the mobile fortress (live): one of the hugest glow ups from the in-game track to the live rendition!! the acoustics in this studio/hall that they're recording all these live versions plays so well into this; the slight echo effect just adds to how large scale this part of the game feels. the part at 2:22 especially is rightfully terrifying! also i really like the addition of the wood blocks. anyway it is such a shame that they had to edit it down to the in-game version so that it would fit on a ds cartridge😔

london 3 (live): my beloved… the way it starts off with a solo violin (+vibraphone) and then a solo cello joins in at 0:27 and then the rest of the orchestra comes in at 0:48 with a soft cymbal roll. the feeling of intimacy contained within that beginning section……… also the added winds and the sustained horns near the end that sound like loss and grief (to me)!!

about town, plvsaa: one of my fav plvsaa rearrangements.. the little xylophone in the back that kinda goes tick tock tick tock is what does it for me bc the whole piece got its instrumentation changed up but the xylophone is like a call back to its roots in the original version

the research facility (live): occasionally hearing the accordion soloist pressing the keys bc they are SO into it to the point of almost doing hammer-ons

theme of the last battle (live): each next higher register section of the orchestra progressively coming in after each phrase at the beginning

case select, lbmr: the vibraphone run at the beginning from 0:06-0:08

investigation, lbmr: the other track that got me through my high school and undergrad homework. the wacky guitarish synth in the background starting at 0:41 that is actually used a lot in the ost in general to almost create a beat similar to beatboxing

rumble!: the occasional washboard + the triangle on beats 3,4 of every other measure + tambourine on beat 4 of the other measures.. silly

pl1 ending theme (live): the whole thing but like specifically the occasional little snare drum rolls that sound like a march.. i listened to this when i graduated and it made me cry
