I like the headcanon that Wolfwood has enhanced senses from the Eye of Michael's experiments, because it puts such a great twist on his "cool guy" sunglasses and smoking. He's happy to let everyone think it's an affectation, and not that his vision is too sensitive without the dark lenses filtering things out, or that the cigarettes help blunt his sense of smell and taste so he isn't constantly picking up on the tang of gunpowder and blood.

I'm a bit late to the party, but I recently got the first volume of the English P4U2 manga!

I am absolutely geeking out over comparing the Jap, Eng, and fan-Eng versions, so if anyone has any pages or panels they want to see side-by-side across the three, let me know and I'll make a post for you! I can't do the entirety of the book of course, but I can do a few pages at least.

(Below the cut is my initial opinion on the quality of the translation work, some comparisons between various details of the Jap volume and the Eng volume, and some more manga page side-by-sides.)

As for my impression of the translation work so far... To me, it feels like the translator was trying to preserve more of the original Japanese language/culture than Eng-P4AU chose to? Not in every instance though, as there's definitely cases where vernacular translations are utilized instead of literal. But where more literal translations are favored, the wording can feel a little awkward or OOC in English.

Even still, it's a pretty cohesive reading experience, in my opinion.

Also, they translated "Plume of Dusk" correctly, which is a relief. I was worried that some of the technical lore terms might get bungled by literal translations, lol. Conversely, while I'm glad that they didn't preserve Jap-Teddie's "-kuma" habit, and happy that they included a few bear puns in accordance to Eng-Teddie's speech habits, I do lament the low quantity and diversity of bear puns in Teddie's speech overall. Maybe there just wasn't a lot of good places for those in this volume though, so I'll have to see going forth.

Oh- and I noticed that some of the background signs and text got translations as well, which I think is really neat. (I don't read enough manga to know if that's just a standard feature of manga translations though, lol.)

Granted, this is just my first-read first impression, and I don't know enough Japanese to know if some lines may be translated less accurately or not. Plus, I tend to be on the lenient side when judging the quality of creative works. So please refer to other opinions as well if you're trying to decide the quality of the translation for yourself!

Fun fact: the Eng version was printed bigger than the Jap version (at least for the Jap volumes I have; no clue if they printed those at multiple sizes).

Also something cool about the Eng version is that it comes with the same color illustrations as the Jap version had, just sized-up. The exclusive edition also comes with a bonus fold-out poster of the original volume cover!

The end-of-volume artist/editor comic was included as well! I'm personally very glad to finally know what this comic says. My respect for Rokuro-san and Sakamaguro-san (the fish) as creatives has grown even further.

Weight loss does not automatically mean your body is eating your muscles and organs. The antivaxxer level of anti science on this site when it comes to weight loss is unbelievable.

Your body will only start "eating" your muscles if you're losing weight AND YOU DONT NEED TO AND ARE HEADED TO BEING UNDERWEIGHT.

WEIGHT LOSS CAN BE SUSTAINABLE. WEIGHT LOSS IS A VIABLE AND SOMETIMES A NEEDED OPTION FOR SOME PEOPLE.

HUGE REMINDER THAT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WEIGHT LOSS CAN HELP DISABLED FOLK ESP FOLK WITH CHRONIC PAIN. It's not a cure-all but people with chronic pain experience large amounts of inflammation in the body and having excess adipose CAN cause inflammation just by itself. Compound that with extra weight on joints can make movement that may already be difficult even more difficult.

And while I'm on this rant, I'm SO sick of people acting like overeating and binging aren't disordered eating and also forms of self harm. I'm sick of the "body positive" activists who get SO mad that some fat people HAVE become fat through overeating and binging and want to talk about it. Like why can't those of us who gained weight through disordered behaviors actually talk about it? Why don't you talk about or let others talk about the fact that some people go from a restrictive eating disorder to a binge eating disorder.

Reasons Why I a Disabled Person decided to lose weight:

1. I knew I was eating too much junk food and not eating enough fruits and vegetables. So I started working on moderating how much junk food I was intaking and I have been trying really hard to make sure I choose healthier options.

2. My chest was/is too big. It was beginning to cause actual dysphoria issues along with the excess weight giving me constant shoulder and neck pain. Weight loss cannot be targeted at any specific part of your body, but overall weight loss can help you lose cup sizes.

3. The food was making my chronic pain worse. Many ultra processed foods are known to increase pain in people with chronic pain and it's been proven in multiple studies that eating a healthier diet can help decrease pain. It won't get rid of it, but it can help.

4. I was using food as a maladaptive coping mechanism. Stress eating is not actually helpful in the long run. Sure it makes you feel better while you're eating it, but once it's gone the problems, the pain, the stress is all still there.

5. I want to be able to use my crutches and KAFOs more often and having already lost a fair amount of weight, I can definitely 100% say that I have less difficulty using them than when I was at my heaviest. It's easier for myself to push myself in my wheelchair, and it's easier to propel myself in sled hockey. Among this, getting a bigger chair was just out of the question when I last ordered my most recent chair. The world is already so hostile to wheelchair users and spaces are already so narrow, it's easier to have a smaller chair if possible. Like we can talk all we want about how things need to be more accessible and universal design needs to be implemented everywhere so people in all sizes of wheelchairs esp those in power chairs, can get around easily without this being something to worry about, but at the end of the day, I want to be able to get through as best I can, and making sure I'm not going any bigger with my wheelchair is legit just something I have to do.

And you know what, even with all of these reasons, there's still the fact that people deserve bodily autonomy so if I want to safely lose weight for ANY reason, then that's my choice.

I always think it's so so interesting that in the areas of the creel home where Henry finds spiders, there is no rose imagery. Like in the bathroom and the attic, there is intentionally no sort of rosey wallpaper that we see all over the place. In the dining room, it's a bit of a stretch, but I suppose Henry was the "spider" in that scene which is why the wallpaper is plain orange. Almost like the roses are meant to represent "rose colored glasses" in a sense. Like the wallpaper hides the spiders behind the walls. It makes me think of Alice's line about how it's all like a fairy tale. Also, brings to mind the references to the creel home in the wheeler home, including the rose wallpaper + urn/fake urns.

But also not only that but the trend of wheeler women wearing rose patterns as to imply that they're not being honest about themselves. Nancy wore a rose design in the first wheeler family photo, and even though she wasn't wearing the same shirt when Jonathan snapped that pic of her when she was taking it off in Steve's bedroom, his comment about how she was "being herself" is interesting (also Nancy just wears a lot of pink-white-blue in s1+s2).

(which honestly I think my interpretation holds weight when you consider how the writers took a risk of possibly making Jonathan out to be a creep just to get this point across. And it always seemed like a pretty strange line to me at least).

Especially, again, a person faking in ST is often conveyed through clothing, as with Argyle's comment on Mike's clothing at the airport.

And also I love Rose Robin so much because Steve's line about how Robin just needs to be herself, and how she was too uncomfortable in her "Rose Weaver" outfit? Because it just wasn't her? And Virginia in her white-pink gown when she sees the spiders in the bathtub and just simply runs away and hugs Victor- "rose colored glasses" (which honestly I could write so much about how victor is associated with the spiders + the grandfather clock but not in a way that condemns Victor himself but instead it's an image that being unfairly projected onto him- which honestly makes me feel even more sad for his character).

Honestly given Holly is fully submerged in this symbolism also in s4 - despite only being six- I could bring in (back on my bullshit again) Ted's relationship with his children and how that seems to be intertwined with this.
