Hahahahaa heeyy guys... been a while, huh..?

Okay it's been actually, almost (correction, over) a literal year since I last posted, and I'm sorry. I'd make some excuse about how life got busy or whatever, (which did happen, but is no excuse) but y'all deserve better than that. I just logged on to look for drawing prompts and realized how popular my Humans are Space Pets series got/was and saw just how many people were asking to be added to the tag list or wondering where the story went.

I still remember a lot of what I was going to do with it, and one of my goals this year is actually to write a short story to completion.. what better way to do that then work with a story that's already started and has a fanbase of sorts?

I might shift a couple things around to make it a stronger story (Not changing anything that's already happened of course!) and it may take me a minute or two to get the character voice right again, but if this is something that enough people want, I think it would be good for me to pick it up again.

With all that being said, I'm not sure how many, if any, of you guys are left, and I may very well be screaming into the void. If you guys are still interested in the continuation of Captain Crow's story, please let me know!

Hello! I both wanted to share this particular fungal growth on a log in my yard and ask if you could identify it? I'm not even certain it's a mushroom? I live in the Pacific Northwest, if it helps

Oh it's definitely a mushroom. I'd say, stereum sp. in several stages (although it could be more than one species growing together too 🧐).

Knowing what type of tree this log is from, would help to identify the mushroom.

@und3rta13tra5h either send them to us in the island, or come to visit together. You can go to any good local reserve and find a few variants hiding around too. Your Pokemon feels alienated I bet, and the best thing we find to do for them is to let them hang with others like them. It gives them confidence, security in themselves, to be amongst others like them. Our islands group of the roselia family is vast, we have a good number of variants your buddy can meet. They will come away inspired I promise you, the Pokemon here are use to visitiors trying to find information on one of their own Pokemon variants, a lot of them have been in the same position of not knowing who they are, and found comfort in their own. We find Pokemon who have the chance to interact with others they can relate to, come away with a far stronger sense of self, and can own who they are after seeing how confident, strong and wonderful others like them can be. I know for a fact the group we nurture here at the labs, has strong words with visiting members of their species, like a pep talk, telling group stories, sharing tips and tricks for different care of different skin and petal types. They kind of nurture them, give them tools to feel confident, and send them on their way.

Do this first, we take visitors pretty much 24-7, so come over, or send them across for a Pokemon-vacation, to gain some confidence and pride. If this fails, then we shall move onto the secondary option but this usually does wonders. If you can’t reach us, try looking in your local area, variants aren’t overly rare, just diverse, so you’ll probably find some that your partner can learn from. Strength in solidarity, they’ll be ok, don’t worry too much.

Trans* is a slightly older way of saying the trans umbrella. It includes all transgender and transgender-adjacent identities; transgender (previously, trans people who are not transitioning whether because they're waiting to start or simply don't want to), transsexual (trans people who are or have medically transitioned), certain butches and queens, drag, binary transition, nonbinary folks, GNC people in general, intersex (which split off to be its own thing), two-spirit/third gender/cultural genders (now often lumped under nonbinary, but as closed practice)...

There are to this day nonbinary people who do not consider themselves transgender. They are still under the trans* label. There are butches who bind or have top surgery or take T or deliberately look like cis men and go by he/him and call themselves boyfriend/husband and take traditionally-male names that are not trans men. There are queens who deliberately look like cis women and go by she/her and call themselves girlfriend/wife and take traditionally-female names that are not trans women. There are cultural genders which do not include any amount of transition whatsoever within the culture they originate. Intersex people often have gender-affirming care and share space with those we once called transsexuals. But not all of these people consider themselves transgender. But they are all still trans*.

Eventually the asterisk fell out of favor. Some people blamed transmeds- I never really got to the bottom of it. It just seemed to me that one day the trans* community decided to start calling themselves the transgender community and berated anyone who continued to use the old label. Much like how there still exists generations of people calling themselves transsexuals and they get screamed at for having problematic identities by the younger and newer crowd. I never really got that either, why suddenly the distinction was a bad thing.

Hey as it turns out I had the same opinion 6 years ago as I currently do today. I don't remember the exact reason for this post but I'd hazard a guess someone told me to kill myself because I used "trans*" or called myself a "transman" because the asterisk is what I was taught when I came out as was the lack of space between words.

oh absolutely there is a fight-or-flight instinct associated with being removed from the safety of the car and placed under the harsh fluorescent light of the fast food restaurant. but no one in the restaurant actually cares because 95% of them are doing the exact same thing as you and the other 5% see it all day every day anyway because that’s the nature of a freeway rest stop town but you still somehow feel a little bit like someone’s going to challenge you for being there in such disarray. You Get It.

I sat at the window a lot today, trying to observe the changes in the sky that indicate time passing.  The Lumarians left the house while I was napping, so there’s been no way for me to get back outside and study the flora/fauna.  

If you have time to think about it, as I have, the two suns really aren’t all that different than a moon and sun in terms of placement in the sky at specific times.  I just have to be able to differentiate between them, which is the part I’m still struggling with.  Obviously I cannot stare directly at them for any period of time to get an idea of size, shape, minute color differences, etc, and they’re similar enough that at a glance they look the same.  In addition to this, there’s no time when they’re both in the sky and I can see both from this window to compare them.  Because I don’t have a direct comparison and cannot differentiate between them, timekeeping has been a full-time job.  I have to learn the patterns of the rest of the world relative to the minuscule changes in light outside.  I can’t rely on outside patterns to help me forever, so I have to figure out what’s triggering them instead.  So far, I can say with some certainty that the Lumarians leave at noon.  Which noon, however, I am still unsure.  I’ll use that as a benchmark for the rest of my timekeeping though.  From now on, when the Lumarians leave it is zero hour.  The time between this ‘noon one’ and ‘noon two’ may not actually be twelve hours, but given as that is about as close of an estimation as I can make and relates to the cycle I’m used to, we’ll go with that.

Given that standard put in place, right now it’s probably 3 o’clock.  The main difference between keeping time here versus on earth is that you actually have to pay close attention to which sun is where-  the light levels aren’t as reliable of an indicator.  You can’t see it’s dark and say ‘oh it’s nighttime!’ or see the sky is red and decide it’s either sunset or sunrise- and then decide which one based on where the sun is.  Because there are two suns and it’s never dark.  

Also, time is completely made up and is just an idea put in place to keep us organized.  Because nothing ever actually changes with time here.  It’s always day, all the time, and there’s no night or indication of passing days.  I don’t even know how long I’ve been here, really, if you think about it.  I crashed, then slept twice, and now I’m here.  So is that two days?  Three?  Or has it been longer?  Who knows.  What’s the definition of ‘today’?

I’ve been thinking about time way too much, and for far too long.  Staring out this window for so long is making my head hurt.  I’m going to go run around the house until reality feels real again.
