Regrettably I did not finish my fic for Day 1 of the UC Celebration 2023 in time to post it today. Normally I would just say fuck and give up but not this time! This time, I’m going to finish it and still post it, just later this week.

Yes, I am making this post at least 50% so that I can’t back out of finishing and posting this silly little fic.

An Annie Wintersummer and Lathe Nightrym fanfic

“Isn’t it past your bedtime, Annie?” Lathe teased as he sat beside her. They had been traveling for a good while and decided to take a rest for the evening. “Ha ha,” she said, smiling as he wrapped a wing around her. Instinctively she leaned into him, continuing to look over her journal.

“Where’s everyone else?” She asked him softly. “Well Aldrum and Diarmad went to find some firewood and Fey and Bombyx went… somewhere.” He replied with a chuckle, gesturing vaguely. “It’s just us, starlight.” He said softly, wrapping his arms around her waist. “How nice.” She hummed softly, keeping her focus mainly on her notes. There had to be some sort of correlation to fiends her found family were fighting, some reason as to why they kept showing up.

She felt Lathe’s hands press into hers, as he pulled her closer. “Do you know what day it is, Annie?” He asked, smiling down at his beloved wizard. “Uh… Tuesday?” She replied, looking up at him as he softly guided the motion. “Annie…” He said with a sigh before laughing. “Starlight, did you genuinely forget your own birthday?” He asked, caressing the halfling’s cheek with his thumb.

Annie’s face dropped for a moment, the small bound journal nearly falling from her hands. “Fey figured you would. You’re always so passionate about your work but you need to remember to take a moment for yourself.” He scolded softly, kissing the smaller woman’s cheek. Annie’s cheeks flushed red for a moment, causing Lathe to laugh once more. “Happy birthday, my starlight.” He murmured, hugging her closer into him. Annie sighed happily, setting her journal aside to better cuddle into the aasimar’s chest.

Helloooooo! During the uc hiatus, I thought it would be fun to run a event for the fan community, celebrating the podcast we love and the joy we have gained from it, and figured having a side blog for it, and any events that happen in the future, would be a good idea. So here we are!

Wait, who is "we"? Isnt there just one of you?

On this blog, there are two mods: Mod Vic (hi!) and Mod Quill (hello~)!

Hi! I'm Mod Vic, I use they/them pronouns, and you would know me from my main blog @wall-e-gorl, where (amongst other things) ive been drawing fanart and generally fandoming about UC since it started! I'm represented by the sketchbook!

And I'm Mod Quill! I use she/they pronouns, and I run @uc-beepboop. Feel free to check out my main @igniting-quill! I dove into fandom around Arc 8: The King is Dead (my beloved) and haven't looked back. I'm represented by the feather!

I'm confused. What's a fan event?

A fan event is a event run by fans of a thing to boost the amount of fanworks for that thing! Our first event here will be for the whole of Unprepared Casters, but usually fan events are centered around a ship or a character or an au, ect.

As for what an event actually entails, there's usually two types. A Big Bang, where artists and writers sign up in advance and release fics with illustrations on the event date, or a Themed Week, where prompts are shared for each day of the week and anyone can make fanwork for it. Themed weeks are usually promoted before they actually take place, so that people are aware of it and have time to make any fanwork in advance if they want to.

You keep saying fanwork. Is that not just fanart and fanfic?

Fanwork includes art, fic, moodboards, meta, playlists, baked goods, anything and everything that fans are inspired to create!

So this blog is here to do, what exactly?

We'll be hosting and/or promoting any UC-centric fan events that happen, as well as reblogging all the fanwork that is created for the events!

Icebreaker! Mods, what class would you want to be in real life? Level 5, subclass included?

Mod Vic: Rouge 3, Arcane Trickster, Wizard 2, Order of Scribes. I'm cheating a little by doing a multiclass, but as much as I want to be a wizard, I am too much of a rogue to not be one. Lets just say I started as a rogue, found out i could do magic and then decided to focus magic

Mod Quill: Bard, College of Creation. I dunno, I think it'd be cool to make things with my words. I always found that sort of power, when it showed up in media, pretty awesome.

Just a Handshake

Bartolomeu Albion grabbed Atelut's hand, begrudgingly but cordial. That was how the Albions shook hands. For him, this was just another handshake with yet another scapegoat. She should be grateful! Most discarded employees do not get the courtesy of a face to face termination, let alone a handshake. Still, she earned that much. She was reciting company line, even still, even after he explained that she would be watched and demonized. Atelut dedicated her life to Albion Rail, and she would continue to do so - in a way. So, Mr. Albion, of the goodness of his heart, felt she earned a parting gesture. It was only a handshake, after all.

The shake went on for longer than she recognized. Atelut kept her grip strong, the wave of anger, resentment, and grief flooding her judgment worse than Foq’s drinks did the night before. As she imagined her life without the only purpose she ever knew, an urge welled up inside and for just a moment she wondered what would happen if she channeled all of it right into the very hand she shook. She thought about it as Rian talked, and her attention shifted to how boldly he tried to defend her.
