Only for Urianger to fluster a little when he hears the Hyur say one such line in combat, and trying not to drop his globe and cards because he's busy trying to keep his husband alive.

If you ship Thancred and Urianger and love painful pining then I can not recommend this enough. It is beautiful and I cry every time.

This one gave me a lot of trouble and Im not entirely happy with how it came out. I actually ended up making the case TWICE cause the first one’s for-edge was way too close to the textblock and the paper I was using to cover it was rather thin and wrinkled irreparably on the back.

So I tried again with new paper (I like this design a lot better anyway).

Protip: only use as much glue as needed to case in. More just makes a smudgy sticky mess of your endpapers. Do not be like me.

A lot of people see Thancred as bisexual, but I consider him more opportunistically bisexual. The game gives us a lot of examples of how much he enjoys female company, but outside of the not-supported-by-canon* interpretation of his and Urianger's relationship, there's nothing that suggests he has any interest in any males. He'll even flirt with a female WoL who starts in Ul'dah, but not a male WoL.

*not-supported-by-canon: the canon does not in any way state that Urianger and Thancred are anything more than friends. This doesn't mean the viewpoint is invalid.

More personal headcanon below the cut.

But I think Thancred wouldn't turn down a male lover, especially if it was someone he respected or liked a lot (like a male WoL or Urianger), and most especially if it also came with the opportunity to be with a woman as well. I think Thancred is likely an adventurous lover and is more than happy to try new things. We've already seen (if you start in Ul'dah) that he's taken multiple female lovers at once, and I firmly believe nothing would stop him from taking a female and a male if it meant he got to have fun.

But there are men out there I think Thancred might be willing to at least experiment with, and even pair up with if that's the way the relationship headed. Urianger is most obvious (I am not a Uricred shipper by any means but I respect those who are), as is a male WoL, G'raha Tia, and Jacke Swallow. (Sorry, Lahacred shippers - I can't get behind that one, but you do you! <3)

I know Kali's Thancred is very much opportunistically bisexual in that he'll sleep with another man (read: G'raha Tia) in order to make her happy. And added bonus: he really likes G'raha as a friend and finds playing with him to be enjoyable in and of itself. Would he sleep with Raha without Kali there to enjoy it? I don't know. He hasn't so far. Would he sleep with another man Kali wasn't interested in? No. His interest in men is only in as much as fulfilling Kali's desires, just as hers is for women and his desires.

Now obviously, this is my personal headcanon. Some people believe that Thancred is completely heterosexual, and that is okay. Some people believe Thancred is flagrantly bisexual and that he freely takes male and female lovers, and that is okay. I've even seen some arguments that Thancred is actually homosexual and all of the women he sleeps with are just to hide that fact. You do you, but I can't personally reconcile that headcanon (only because I don't believe Thancred could be that uncouth).

In the end, what really matters is that you write what makes you happy. Thancred is an awesome character with unexpected depths that have been discovered and explored as the game has progressed. It's been an amazing ride to watch him going from the flippant, foppish rake to the dedicated father and guardian, and I enjoy reading everyone's interpretations of who he is and what he may yet become.

Unpopular opinion time: We don't really view their relationship as romantic. It's just that in our interpretations of them, they are simply friends. Close friends, for sure, but in the way that two grown men are friends, not the cliche high school boy friendship popularized in the media. They can have long talks and discuss what's best for Ryne without wanting to bone each other, you know?

As we have said in other posts, Thancred is a mess of issues that would need to be resolved before a healthy relationship could take place. While Urianger is a supportive and reliable presence for Thancred, we don't believe that would evolve into anything romantic. Romance isn't a priority to Urianger, so it wouldn't even cross his mind. But they would definitely be the two best friends that keep getting called a "couple" for how much they hang out together; that's more of the 'two men can't just be friends' BS pushed by society/the media, though.

That being said -- and in the event that there's a blog out there now crushed by our answer -- we could be convinced! There is some basic groundwork for a romantic ship and we understand why so many love it. Our personal interpretations just don't easily align with the concept with some extensive storytelling.
