HELP US GET RID OF HUGE 20 YEARS OLD MANGA COLLECTION 📚✨
Tumblr media
My sister used to collect a whole bunch of manga in the mid 2000s to mid 2010s, but nowadays she's lost her attachments to them and wants to open up a lot of space (for more manga, incidentally 🤭) so I'm helping her sell off all of the bulk! 📚✨
I've set up a temporary eBay account where I'll be listing all of the series she would like to sell off which you can find here: https://www.ebay.com/usr/littlebookghost
Her collection mainly consisted of shoujo romance, light fantasy/supernatural, and boys love titles- with many out of print titles by Tokyopop and Del Ray Manga, and she had over 100 different series/oneshots in her collection! Due to the large amount of books to list I will be adding them gradually every weekend until I have all of them up!
We'd really like to have the whole collection gone by the end of the year, so please share with anyone you think would be interested in buying them off us, we'd be super grateful! 💖

I keep seeing sentiments about how Americans knowing about JKR being a terf is a very tumblr thing and that a lot of people don’t know she sucks ass.
I will say that 1. Even American mainstream news reports on her bullshit a lot and frequently and has for years so if you consume literally any news you’ve probably heard this 2. I do not know a single UK citizen, tumblr-poisoned or not who isn’t aware of this now if they give the slightest fuck about queer people because she is very very publicly funding hate drives and speaking at events and continuously writing thinkpieces affecting public life. Somehow because it’s not HERE it allegedly requires niche SJW knowledge to be aware of her open, public campaign.
I do agree that not everyone who still participates in HP shit “must” know, especially kids, but I think it’s very ignorant to pretend it’s a minority of people who are aware when 5+ years ago NBC and NPR and EW and US weekly and fucking Business Insider wrote pieces like “Rowling Under Fire For Transphobia Once More”
It is wholeheartedly a public conversation here.

If I were to write a serious history book, it'd probably be about the wife of a famous figure in American history. Every time I read about some Great Man, I always find myself fascinated by his wife there in the background--a hugely vital part of his life, with a front-row seat to all the history connected with him, often not able to engage with it directly but still having a huge impact on the people involved. Her entire life was shaped by whatever career her husband chose, but that doesn't mean she wasn't her own person--with her own thoughts and beliefs and opinions and interests--or that what she was doing wasn't important.
I'd make sure to respect her by keeping the focus, not on what she couldn't do, or what she'd have been able to do in modern times, but what she did do in the times that she lived in, because the things that women did were vital, even if they rarely got the spotlight. I'd want to spotlight it.

Magic school book sale
Tumblr media
Into the Labyrinth, the first novel in my YA magic school series, Mage Errant, is a Kindle Daily Deal today! (November 15th.) Books 2&3 will be on sale as well for the next couple of days. Mage Errant follows the adventures of Hugh of Emblin, a young student mage whose magic doesn't want to work right- though his anxiety works just fine. Mage Errant features found family, a convoluted science-inspired magic system, a non-neurotypical protagonist, a queernormative setting, Machiavellian politics, lots of explosions, and more kaiju than you can shake a stick at. (Though, uh... I highly recommend against shaking sticks at kaiju in general.)
Mage Errant is heavily inspired by Diane Duane, Dianna Wynne Jones, Will Wight's Cradle, Andrew Rowe's Arcane Ascension, and a bunch of cheesy shonen anime. It's part of the new(ish) genre of progression fantasy, which is much more heavily focused on training and growing in power than average in fantasy. (I like to call the genre "books for people who like movie training montages way too much.")
The whole series is complete now, sans a short story anthology coming out in February. It's also getting a webtoon comic adaptation, which is super exciting! Oh, and whenever I got a bad review for having queer characters (of which I got MANY), I hit a mental button reading "make it gayer."

Sorry guys, rant incoming. I considered deleting this but I put too much effort in.
"girlboss" "girl dinner" "girl math" "boy math" "gen z are making fun of us for wearing x" "here's how to dress like gen z:" "girlies" "girl's night" "boy's night" "me and the boys" "90s kid"
"I don't feel like an adult" "I'm 34 and I can tell you, I still don't feel like an adult either." "My parents seemed like real adults when they were my age." "I still feel like a teenager."
Maybe you'd feel more like an adult if you started calling yourself one. Maybe you'd feel more like an adult if you stopped trying to dress like a teenager. Maybe you should move your bed out from the wall and get a wallet. Maybe find a calendar app that works for you.
You are an adult. Even if you live with your parents. Even if you do part-time shift work at minimum wage. Even if you haven't graduated college. Even if you are single. These are adult things to do. Because you are doing them. And you are an adult. Start treating yourself like an adult. Fake it 'till you make it if you have to.
In other, writing-related, news:
That trend on TikTok of 20-40 something women authors (and writers yet to be published) promoting their books like,
"Omg! I can't believe I've sold X number of copies!! I never thought I would!" "Ahhhh imagine publishing your book and all your dreams come true and now you get to meet famous authors and work with big names in the industry!!" "Would you read a book where [proceeds to list a bunch of oversaturated tropes that tell me nothing about the actual plot]?"
It reeks of infantilization. If you didn't believe anyone would want to read your book, why should I? You made it on the NYT bestseller list! Stop acting like a mega-fan who got to meet a celebrity. You are their peer! "Would you read a book--" What if I wouldn't? Why does it matter to you what I think of your book? And for the love of god stop hiding behind tropes you know are already popular. "Here is my book: This is what it is about." Have some goddamn confidence.
It is fine to mention in passing "this idea was really far-fetched so I didn't know if it would appeal" or "I was struggling with self-esteem when I wrote this". It's fine to fan a little bit. It's fine to discuss the tropes in your book. But why are you building your brand as an author off of your inferiority complex? You are using your poor self-esteem as a marketing tactic to seem "humble" and "relatable" but it's coming across as unprofessional and desperate for reassurance. You are an adult. You are competent. The more you act like it the more you will believe it.
And of course, I haven't seen a man promote his book this way...
On another note, do any of the 20-40 something women writers who do "write with me" videos on TikTok actually enjoy writing or are they just doing it for the aesthetic?
They all have gorgeous minimalism writing spaces full of white and pink and a macbook beneath a window. Their makeup is done and they are conventionally pretty to start with. But their entire video is just them talking about how little progress they made, how many pages they deleted, how often they got distracted, how frustrated they are. And like, yeah. We all have those days. But what about the good lines you can't wait to share? The days when the words just flow? The cool stuff you learned while researching? Why don't you ever make videos about that?
Is this some other attempt to seem "relatable" by only talking about the "bad" side of writing? Because again, it's coming across as lacking confidence at best and, at worst, that you don't actually know how to write. And that is not the brand you want as an author.
Again, its always women. Why must women market their self-esteem issues in order to sell their art? Why must we be perpetually awestruck children (girlies, book girls) in over our heads?

normally the biography on Theodosius costing $50 (making it out of my price range for something that’s currently a casual curiosity) and not available through other means would have me go ‘alright! We’re done here, back to Valens!’ however the Subleyras painting with Theodosius and Ambrose has me feeling some kind of way and what is usually an insurmountable obstacle is like. nbd. improvise, adapt, overcome. I will simply have to eat Theodosius.

Hey Librarian, I just wanna ask, how fortified is your house against thieves? Specifically people who might take a peek at books? Specifically diaries? Specifically looking for pages that might imply your true feelings for someone and all this "I don't like you" is just an act because you developed affection towards someone but want to push them away cause the m-word is not a place for love and so you just pen these memories away in a book so all that love will not die? Cause I would HATE it if someone sent an expedition of talented followers to break down locks and seduce guards just to infiltrate *my* inner sanctum and read about all these things I actually wrote myself.
I'd hate it and I'm just... Checking how you prepare against those?
-Cul... cumber. CUCUMBER
How... fortified is my house against... thieves? You... you want to know how fortified my house is against thieves? Oh, for the love of—
First of all, Mx... [scoffs] "Cucumber," you should be well aware that there is no need to resort to breaking and entering if you wish to look at books. This is a library. The purpose of a library is so that patrons can come and look at books. No, I daresay that the only reason one would need to resort to breaking and entering is if one were trying to, oh I don't know, bypass the librarian and steal the books for yourself. And I assure you, Mx. "Cucumber," that that is something for which I will not stand!
Second of all, the only book in Hush House authored by me contains my life's work. You are very sorely deluded if you think I have not made arrangements for its publication, should my endeavors succeed! If you want to read my "diary," as you so dismissively call it, you can purchase it from any reputable retailer of occult works in 2-4 business years. But frankly? I doubt you will even bother, given the disdain you've had for my "nerdy essay." At best you'll flip through it searching for confirmation of this theory you've concocted to fill the void left by the Forge-of-Days' various rejections, and fall back to your opium when you find nothing of the sort. I could translate it into— into Vak if I so desired and it wouldn't make a difference to the amount of information you'd retain upon reading! Perhaps I shall! Perhaps I already have!
Furthermore, for all your obsessions—oh yes, I know all about your obsessions. Do you truly think yourself subtle? Or clever?— you clearly have no pride and no self-respect if you intend to send your followers to discern my feelings for you. Did your followers also write this letter for you? Do they choose the people you woo? When you kiss your lovers, do they position your head for you? There are some things that must be done personally Mx. "Cucumber," if they are to be done at all. And if you will not then you are a coward, and have no hope for earning even a crumb of my respect.
You may be obsessed with me, for what reason I cannot possibly fathom, but you have shown that you have no respect for me, no respect for my library, and no respect for my life's work! You hide behind a false name, and pretend that I am too stupid to see through it. No, I know only one person this callous, this self-centered, this entitled, this... immature.
YOU ARE THE DESPICABLE THIEF OF THE HISTORY OF INKS!!!!!!!!
You will receive no further correspondence from me until the tome is returned.
Firmest disregard,
The Yard Sale Librarian
Post Scriptum: Please inform your followers that my legion of guard vipers is ever-growing. And soon I will overthrow the world.
Post- Post Scriptum: Every last one of them is asexual.

Screaming crying scratching at the walls of my enclosure because it’s now somehow necessary to not just use social media but excel at it to even be considered for any of my dreams jobs??!?! Since when do I need 30k followers to be good at something other than a popularity contest?? Why does follower count matter to how good of an artist, writer, or general creator I am? I shouldn’t be required to know how to market and pander to the masses when all I want to do is create art! I just want to make things! I don’t care about selling them to the most people ever! I don’t care about notoriety! I’m a creator! I. JUST. WANT. TO. CREATE!!!
