secret message transfiguration: learn how to draw images in the veins of leaves, whisper commands through the voices of crows, and spell out messages in a spider’s web with this class

silent dueling: a defense against the dark arts class that specialises in teaching wordless casting and spells that do not make sound

legilimency: very small course only taught to those with genuine interest in the subject. a good reputation is also a requirement

worst classes:

firework charms: signaling charms class that teaches students how to cast loud and attention-grabbing spells in order to be rescued

x-ray divination: a highly advanced branch of divination that allows the seer to see the immediate future of their surroundings

elective courses:

happiness alchemy: a craft that originated from the prohibition movement in the 1920s. combining spells for giddiness and mood-lifting abilities with the structure of potions like felix felicis, alchemists sought to create replacement alcohols undetectable by both muggle and wizarding governments. the most famous beverage to come out of these experiments is gigglewater

flexibility transfiguration: sometimes, it’s hard to sneak into places that you need or want to be in … these charms will definitely get you into any nook or cranny you need to be in

school prankster: who stuck pumpkins on every tower on campus? who planted devil’s snare beneath the sofas in the guest reception? who replaced all the vanilla soft serve with coconut frozen yoghurt? the infamous ‘ilvermorny phantom’ has never been caught … but people have a feeling that they might know who it is

film society: student projector and event organiser for the ilvermorny film society, which plays both wizarding and muggle films, and is home to the world’s one and only bottomless popcorn machine

the ilvermorny press: the press is always huffing steam and churning its gears, marking pristine sheets of paper with a thousand stories and messages, like a beast of narration. it’s a little hectic and messy there, but you enjoy watching it work, a wonder of machine, magic, and genius

the echoing hall: the practice hall for the ilvermorny choirs. the acoustics in here are so good that you could hear someone drop a piece of parchment from across the hall. great place for people who want to do homework in total silence … or, for people who want improve their stealth skills …

ilvermorny is the smile in front of a secret, the laugh behind a joke, and the flash before a photograph. it is the conspiratorial joy of being in a community, it is the light of levity which brightens your day and eases your burden, it is the sun that illuminates you and makes you more brilliant than you were. it is a place of comfort, joy, and improvement.

as your footsteps rebound against the walls of the echoing hall, you are simultaneously frustrated by your failure to keep quiet, amused by the magic of the architecture, and pleased that you were slightly quieter than before. the sound of your flapping robes instead sounds like the music of feathers in this hall, and you feel like you are something different entirely – you are an entity that cannot be described in simple terms; like ilvermorny, you are a multitude within a singularity, a metaphor with a name.

one day, you will emerge from ilvermorny, triumphant and bright, and you shall leave it, as a bird must inevitably leave its nest. however, your shadow will still stretch back towards it, winding over the paths you will take and the flights you will make, a snaking mark, an afterthought of a smile, a whisper of legend. a phantom of you, never caught, always felt.

can you fucking believe the harry potter series has its last day today...... albus is going to hogwarts and hes going to have tea with hagrid and it just hit me they’ve grown up, does anyone remember fourteen year old ron offering to make tea for hagrid..... hermione enthusiastically talking about when she went to dijon and getting distracted from the plan...... the fucking ministry battle.... the way everyone fought and ron getting those scars from the brains, when sirius fell through the veil, when harry woke up at the burrow in the half blood prince and ron’s so excited to see his best friend he punches him to wake him up.... dumbledore’s fucking death and the battle that ensued, how ron said ‘we’re with you whatever happens but come to the wedding bro’..... one last golden day of peace with ron and hermione..... the deathly hallows oh my GOd, when ron left, when ron came back, the BATTLE OF HOGWARTS and fred dying, the absolute madness that came afterwards, when ron said ‘really gives a feeling for the scope and tragedy of the thing doesnt it’...... ‘there would be days, there would be other days’ and i may be misquoting because every single copy of the series ive got my hands on has either been someone else’s or pirated but.... goddamn, september first is here and albus severus is going to hogwarts to carry on his father’s legacy (do you see that.... harry was seventeen two seconds ago and fighting for his life and trying to stay alive for his friends and ready to die for them and this boy, this boy has a legacy now what the fuck), go on that fucking red train and have tea with hagrid and meet the boy he will fall in love with and james potter the second will probably be blowing up every single fucking thing and oh m y god, god, they’ve grown up so much. look at where scared abused eleven year old harry was, look at where we started, look at where we are, hp fandom
