Gonna be busy this week, so might not get it sanded again until next weekend. Dying to know if the Liquid Nails will fix the segment cracks or not but I won't know until it's sanded 😒

I considered 3D modeling a specialized trowel to make applying Bondo to the side plate layers easier because my putty knife does a shit job at it, but I have to resist the temptation. Literally no one is going to be able to tell if the side layers have layer lines or not from the 3D printing process. But I'll know...

The secret to making money from cars? Greasiness. That's right, the local dealership isn't exactly the paragon of factory-standard automotive excellence that they like to claim they are on radio ads. If you want to make money on used cars, the best way is to not spend too much money. Quick and dirty is the word of the day.

We've all seen cars with fishy rust repair, doors that are the wrong colour, or crappy globs of Bondo falling out on the highway. Often, I've seen these cars in my driveway about three or four days after purchasing them. This is the point where it has become obvious that I am an idiot, and shouldn't buy cars in the dark, daylight, dusk, rain, snow, sleet, or at all.

I am the victim, as you are, of capitalism itself. These cars were usually flipped for a quick profit, because doing things "right" would mean a full restoration of some sixty-year-old piece of shit that someone crashed into a tree in 1975. And then your family would be eating rocks and worn-out sandpaper for dinner. Would things be better in an idealized socialist utopia in which you can fix a car properly, and your children will still get to eat bagelwiches for dinner? Sure, but until the revolution comes, we're all going to get boned on used cars.

Of course, enthusiasm is a whole other deal. Hobbyists really care about the work, even if that passion is not necessarily matched with talent or skill. It's not just "fixing something;" it's communing with the spirit of automotive excellence. When you genuinely want to do a good job, it means taking out all the stops, which usually includes going to a nearby message board and asking the old paint-huffing heads a ton of ridiculous nervous-Nellie questions about paint until they ban you.

I'm proud to say that I'm enthusiastic about my junk. Nobody can ever accuse me of getting projects done quickly. It takes months, if not years, of only the finest procrastination. The quality might still suck, but I can always blame it on the used car lot that I bought it from in the first place. Then it's "oh no, poor Switch," instead of "maybe he should not be huffing this much paint while trying to get the job done before the mall's security guard sees him in the underground parking." Gotcha, suckers – another victory for me.

Match 4 of the joint training arc will never not bug me. The first three matches did a good job at showcasing the quirks of the class B members of the respective teams (especially Komiri, Kuroiro, Pony, and Hanonuki) while also giving the class A members SHARED spotlight. They were not perfect, but they were close. Aside from Momoma, Tetsutetsu, Kendo, and Shiozaki, we knew next to nothing about class B, so this was a good time to show their quirks and personalities in action.

But Match 4 just became a Bakugou praise parade. Tokage was hyped up by Monuma for the sole reason of making Bakugou look better once he bet her team and his team SWEEPED 4-0 and was the only team that got no criticism form Aizawa. The bias could not be stronger.

That is not my biggest issue. My biggest issue is how everyone else were used as mouthpieces to show how much he 'changed'. His teammates, Tokage, Monoma, Kirashima, Kaminari, Izuku, and even All Might. It actually got so freaking annoying. It was practically being drilled into our brains that he changed.

And aside from a fundamental level, HE DID NOT CHANGE. He is still calling his teammates by rude nicknames and insulting them. (Calling Sero an idiot for coming up with a good plan and telling Jiro to shut up after SHE THANKED HIM FOR SAVING HER.)

Also, it just made Tokage, Kamikiri, Bondo and Awase look weak and Sero, Sato and Jirou got to do next to nothing

I have my issues with match 5 too but this one is just too big of a mess to ignore

and the teacher who worked with those kids is the only women with black hair that's not midnight so i had to improvise, her eyes kinda look like Sero's so we can go with that, i want Bondo to be Sero's cousin he's got a adhesive quirk

The Übersaw build breakdown, Part 1: (enjoy!)

Note: I'm more than happy to answer any and all questions about this build. Want me to breakdown a specific step or detail, please ask!

From top reference, to bottom complete, this build was a challenge from start to finish and required me to learn a ton of new skills, and reach out to a variety of people for help/advice/brainstorming! But when I decided I was finally going to make my dream cosplay of Medic, I knew this is the saw I wanted to make along with it.

Every piece was made from scratch, and includes sintra, pla 3d printing, resin printing, acrylic tubes, a straw, bondo, E6000, hex bolts, led ring light, arduino trinket, metal switch, aaa battery pack, misc. wiring, spray paint, acrylic paint, and a whole lot of sanding sanding sanding!

I always wanted to stay as true to the original design as possible, but knew adjustments would have to be made, moving a model from a game to real life. Some details I wanted to keep a true as possible, such as the base shape and size. Some aspects were modified deliberately to fit better with the overall aesthetic of the specific version of Medic I was creating; such as smoothing out the edges of the handle, rather than keeping them sharp like in the game. (Something that would make it more realistic overall, a goal I kept in mind through every piece of the costume.)

One such change was adding liquid to the Übersaw core and an led light that pulses red. Looking at the base design, and the color palette the original creators used, they intrinsically translated in my mind to "liquid" and "light" rather than just a flat color. Thinking about Medic and his designs, I figured an ominous, pulsing red would be perfect for when the Übersaw was fully charged. (Plus it would look really cool, so... that definitely influenced my decisions!)

I mixed up a concoction of distilled water, red and silver mica powder, and filled an acrylic tube with the mixture. There's actually two tubes, the smaller inside one helps reduce water weight on this already hefty prop.

Of course, these changes also meant I needed to learning how to code an arduino trinket (which ended up being a lot of fun!), and create a special holder at the base of the Übersaw to hold the ring light, trinket, switch, battery pack and wiring. Not to mention it had to be accessible so I could change the batteries out when needed. That's when it was time to ask for help from some talented friends!

Here's what the resulting holder ended up looking like! (Not pictured is the ring the light sits on) It was 3d modeled and printed in PLA by my friend with some imput by me, but he knows so much more about this stuff I was happy to let him take the lead! The design includes hex bolts to secure the light holder to the Übersaw like a clamp, but also allows it to be opened in half for easy access to the batteries/any electronics that are having issues.

The base of the whole saw is sintra (pvc board), in many layers. The layers were then blended with Bondo and SO MUCH SANDING. After the piece looked like a cohesive whole, rather than 8 layers of plastic board, it was base coated with spraypaint and detail painted with acrylics. (I say this as though it was a simple task, but the spraypaint fought me every step of the way, had to be constantly re-sanded, and some layers refused to dry at all and had to be varnished to remove the tackiness. It was a trial to be sure!)

But after all was said and done, it was finally time for detail painting: My favorite part of any project! (Continued in part 2)

Neitou is a big fan of the pre-quirk era, including music, games, fashion, and media in general

Shihai is very into K-Pop, but hides it to keep up his 'dark knight' portrayal

Itsuka has a collection of mittens. That's it, she has a collection of mittens

Tetsutetsu cries his eyes out whenever he watches anything even remotely sad

Pony once accidentally ate a spoonful of wasabi and has been traumatised ever since

Nirengeki doesn't fold any of his clothes. He shoves them in and irons them whenever he needs it. He thinks it saves time, (it does not)

Rin has a running gag where he'll say he was made in Korea, because that's where the 'Made in China' stickers originated from

Yui likes pottery. She's not that good at making them, but she'll enjoy the craftsmanship and collects some

Manga will sometimes jumpscare everyone with a particularly loud 'BANG!' just for the laughs

Shishida doesn't sleep on a bed. He sleeps on a bunch of blankets laid out on the floor. Might use a pillow

Sen is really into romance novels, but refuses to tell anyone

Kosei once blew a bubble with gum and accidentally used his quirk during it. The bubble was solidified over his mouth and blocked his nose. The doctors had to saw it off. He's never having bubblegum again

Kinoko has once tried to produce magic mushrooms and was only stopped when her parents caught her. She feigned innocence, but one day. One day she will have her own shrooms

Setsuna, when she was young, used to accidentally leave her hand at home and only realised when she took her shoes off at her school's entrance

Bondo has gotten high on his own glue. It's only happened once and he will never do it again after accidentally glueing his younger siblings to the sofa

Yosetsu tends to use his welding whenever he's excited, which has led to many phones being destroyed

Juuzou will sometimes swim in the ground, mostly because he can't be bothered to go to the pool

Togaru, during a bout of sleep deprivation, has once eaten cardboard and didn't realise it until he was nearly finished. He will never speak of this again

Ibara's hair has caught on fire many times. Once, she didn't realise it was on fire, due to a bbq taking place nearby, and all but ran into a nearby pond

Reikou will prank her friends by telling ghost stories and start levitating things nearby. She has attempted to levitate herself, and that ended with her face-first in the ground

Ages ago I got a resin helmet kit from LunaArmorWorks on Etsy, it sat in my to-do pile for the longest time but I finally got around to finishing and painting it up. It's been so long since I bought this helmet that LunaArmorWorks doesn't sell it anymore, so I'm grateful I picked it up when I did because I don't know if I could've made something this cool all on my own! 

Once I started working on this one, it was pretty easy to put together. I added a few additional details with apoxie sculpt and bondo before priming and sanding the helmet. I used a few different spray paints and masking fluid to get the chipped paint effect, then dusted on chalk pastels to add to the worn look.

The hardest part of this project was trying to figure out how to make a faux chainmail hood, which you don't even see in the glamour shots. I used a dollar store rug gripper, I dyed mine red with Rit Dyemore because I thought it might save me the effort of painting it (only for me to paint it anyways because I realised I should make it silver with red drybrushing).

I really love how the first photo turned out, can you believe I took that in my kitchen? I don't know if I'm just kidding myself, but I feel like it actually looks like it was shot outdoors. Fun fact, but I edited in the clouds and leaf litter from scenes in Labyrinth where Sarah is in the hedge maze area. I'm gonna have to do that for future photoshoots because I love knowing a bit of the film is in these photos.
