Nanami is complete!

I paired the jacket and shorts up with my comfy tights and my shoe covers I made for her school uniform.

I made the shoulder pauldrons out of cardboard, felt, and 6" bullion fringe. The buttons and collar triangles are both handmade. I used Polly Plastic beads in a fondant mold to make them then shoved a hot awl through it to make buttonholes.

Nanami was initially going to be for a contest I decided not to enter, but I hope to get some spring photos with her when more flowers bloom!

Rose Bride Utena! Her color palette is inspired by her original canon gown coloring with the baby pink in varying shades to help create some contrast, and the seafoam color in a more pastel variant. This is one of my favorite color combinations ever, and I’m so glad I got to use it on such an awesome iconic character. Even though Utena is depicted in a ball gown, I wanted the gown to still feel a bit like a power design for her. The skirting of her dress is a subtle high low with button up booties visible under the skirting, in order to allow for some mobility. I think the booties ended up being one of my favorite parts of her design. I have also designed a duelist version of Utena and rose bride Anthy, and will have those shared here soon as well! 🌹✨

Detail time for Nanami! The inspiration for these are mostly Alice Closet with some elements from the musical and anime.

A few elements have been uprooted from my original jacket, specifically the rose, the rose clip, and the people cord. That gave me more time to play with details side part of it was already done.

I am absolutely in love with the duelist's rose. It's detachable!

It's 8PM. It's a long first day at the con. Then suddenly, a conga line of the Shadow Girls from Utena start walking by in the hall as music blares.
