Tropical Trees Default Replacement
Tumblr media
Here’s an addition to my default replacement for trees - tropical trees! To be honest, most of them didn’t need to be replaced. At the beginning I wanted to replace only the base game palm. Done. Then I discovered that it broke the bon voyage palm because it was repositoried - took me a lot of time but fixed it too. Then I discovered that this broke the hammock - ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME?! I’m replacing all of you then, all! And I’ll make two versions for a fan palm because I can’t decide 🤣
So here’s a replacement for the basegame palm tree and all tropical bon voyage plants. All plants for this replacement were used from these and these conversions by @beautifulnerdkitty, but I had to make some changes to the trees' models to make them compatible with Maxis trees logic, changed their size plus lowered texture resolution.
IMPORTANT INFO:
There is a V1 and a V2 version for the fan palm tree and for the palm hammock. You MUST use the same version for both of them or the hammock will break because it uses textures from the original fan palm.
Also, everything repositoried to these plants (all of them) will break, for exemple Gwenke’s harvestable tropical trees (will break if you pick the banana tree replacement).
All trees have undersides via TXMT edit so I don’t recommend using it with other TXMT edits, like this one by @pforestsims or my own.

As always, all plants are separated so you can pick and choose what you want to have (except for the hammock and the fan palm, you must keep both and their versions must be the same (V1 for both or V2 for both)!)

Overly-Confident
The following pictures were taken on April 2nd, 2023. Boo was very comfortable with Mk1 V1.0 and was a little too confident whilst receiving scratches.  He really enjoyed the V1 of the hammock Leaf–which was a 12 inch leaf with a 10 inch hole cut out of the center, and burlap stretched across it–and is a particular fan of the flat scratching surfaces created through the use of all of the…

2020 BJD Resolutions
Here we go, doll/craft related goals for this year! Unlike my plan to do a ’monthly goals’ approach with my art-- which I am much more aggressively ambitious with-- this is a hobby blog, so the pressure on myself to complete everything on this list is way less. I guess I see this more as a checklist to track my progress versus any kind of self-imposed deadlines.
There will probably be more popping up here as I go as well, so I may come back to this post and update it periodically!
Last updated: 2/3/2020
March: She has a faceup, wig, eyes, and one outfit.
Buy her dragonfly wings (or try out making some)
I think I’ll try buying first, I’ve had my eye on a few etsy listings..
Design a few key outfit pieces for her wardrobe!
Tights/leggings, a tunic, a skirt or two, a vest, and 1 pair of shoes.
Maybe make her a tiny leaf hammock. I say maybe, because I’m not sure where I’d put it.
Pisces: She has a faceup, wig, and eyes.
Start on her wardrobe!
a few skirts, various babydoll/empire dresses, stockings, tights.
Make a fabric slip-on mermaid tail? She started out as a moth fairy, but the mermaid tail has called to me over time due to her namesake.. I’ll think about it.
Maybe make her a little cushion/seating arrangement, since she’s a sleepy princess. This might be easier to find a place to set up.
NEW! Nova: She has, well, nothing atm!
Buy her wings!
Pick out eyes and buy those (or go custom)
Buy yarn for her wig DONE tysm @dolliesanddelights
Make v1 wig!
Do a digital faceup pass
Start her faceup
Castor & Pollux: They both have face-ups, wigs, a few outfits, 1 pair of shoes.
Waiting on their new custom eyes!
Sewing project: their jester magical girl outfits! (This is definitely a project I want to sit down and photo-document)
Buy a pair of casual shoes for Cassy! Thinking sneakers or tiny boots.
Sew them each a big star pillow.
Tentative: Might make Cassy’s jester makeup more sapphire blue, but it depends on how her outfit turns out.
For Olive: She has: a new wig, two pairs of shoes.
Waiting on her re-shell body!
Do an updated design pass/color doodle
Face-up and blush the wings/hands/feet on the new body.
Project: Wardrobe key pieces, which I have SO MUCH fabric for.
Dresses, pinafores, bloomers, petticoats, a few blouses, socks.
Find the right fabric (aka settle on a color) and sew her a dragon tail.
Buy her some new eyes (if the ones you have don’t work)
Make her a personal cameo brooch and diary.
Project: Customize the small bookshelf I found with the boo.
find some hardware for the handles
add two more shelves (check the balsa wood section first)
buy more little bottles, make some fake books.
Starchaser: Has a faceup, eyes, several outfit items, 2 pairs of shoes.
Try a first pass at making them a wig!
Get all the yarn colors! DONE!
Tentative: Maybe add star freckles to their faceup?
Buy 2 pairs of shoes for them (namely boots and sneakers)
Wardrobe explosion! Outta all that fancy fabric you bought, dammit!! (This is a project in itself, I’ve even drawn a bunch of the pieces I want to make.)
Void-Hime: has a faceup, wig, one outfit.
Waiting on custom eyes!
Buy her that pair of specific black boots.
Wardrobe project: Make her a few key pieces.. again, use all that fabric!!
tights/socks, more shirts, a few skirts or dresses.
Cecila: Has:.. her own dolly and 1 outfit!
Do a digital faceup pass
Sketch some character designs/outfits
Pick out Eyes! I keep going back and forth about color..
make v1 of her wig. +_+
do her faceup and blush her hands/feet
Wardrobe project! Maybe 2 outfits to start
big bloomers, socks, short a-line dresses, petticoats, fur-lined capelets and fur booties/leg warmers
Considering a tiny fur tail and wolf ears... (I know I said vampire before at some point whoops)
Make her more TINY DOLLS!!! +___+
Other:
Make an official sales post for the remaining Lost Girls. I want to make the rest of them little bonus items, so it may take some time to get it all together. Maybe use this an excuse to sell a few other things, too?
Make ID cards + Print them DONE!
Sew 2 doll pillows (2 / 4 done)
Make a bonus outfit for each of them! 2 left!
Properly lit photo-shoots of all the face-ups I completed (and for bio-page purposes)
Concept new character ideas for BBB Isabella, if I decide to keep her. Feeling indecisive... I find her so sweet, but her body is so limiting.
Do I wanna bother with hybridizing again? Would the RS double jointed bodies work for her head size despite being 1cm bigger? And do I wanna put money into that or just focus on my other wishlist dolls?
Start a Spreenow/Dollmore/ACBJD wishlist... *sweating*
Remake Rin’s yarn wig because she deserves some love!
Try to keep any spending on dolls to ones that are on my wishlists.
Photo document more things! I dunno, cuz’ it’s fun?
Thaaaat’s enough for now, gosh! I’ve got plenty to keep me busy. +__+;;

Lessons From The Cave Part 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I recently took a spontaneous trip to Georgia at the request of a friend who is a tree climber as well. He called me four days prior and asked me if I would like to join him and another climber to do a rope access into Ellison's cave to descend and ascend what is known as “the fantastic pit” it is the deepest pit drop in the continental US. Of course, I said yes. I have a deep passion for rope access, hiking, and climbing. This would be my first unguided trip into a cave. Little did I know what I’d be in for. I would be on my way for Georgia the following Friday to embark on what would become one of the most empowering and amazing adventures I had ever been on.
I decided to look up the cave that I would be accessing and I came to find out that this was no joke. There have been numerous accidents that had resulted in death, including the recent tragedy of two college students from Florida who died of hypothermia when their descent lines became tangled and they were stuck on line in the middle of the waterfall that flows down into the grotto. The fantastic pit is a 600ft drop into sheer darkness by rope. As I began to think more and more about just what the hell it was that I would be doing, anxiety and fear started washing over me.
The descent would be easy enough, but there is only one way out..back up the rope you just came down... the tallest ascent I’ve ever done was a 176ft tulip poplar that I climbed with some friends out East. I would now be multiplying that by three..that is a long way up, totally exposed in free space in the pitch black (besides what you could see with your headlamp) and with a waterfall raining down on you. I couldn’t shake the fear that was gripping me. Anxiety would grab hold whenever I thought about how dangerous this was. But I had agreed to go and I wasn’t going to cancel.
All I could think about was the rope snapping while I was suspended in open space some untold hundred feet off the floor. Or maybe the anchors in the rock would give way and send me plummeting to my death. Either way, I could not shake the fear. The day came to board my flight to Georgia. I was on the flight and all I could think about was how scared I was. Now, I’ve been working on ropes for years now and I am no slouch when it comes to rope access, and the two gentlemen who I was with are professional rope access technicians and tree climbers as well, but I could not shake how gnarly this trip was going to be.
My friend picked me up from the airport and we linked up with our other buddy and went to camp on the mountain where the next morning we would hike a mile up the mountain to descend into the darkness. We began vigorous training until nightfall, going over our knots and our ascending and descending changeovers. We checked all of our gear, double-checked our packing list and got everything packed and prepped. It was time to rack out and get some shut-eye. I lay in my hammock all night, looking at the stars and thinking about the drop. Honestly, I cannot remember being more afraid of anything in my life.
I did not sleep but a few hours here and there but was awoken by the anxiety of what I was about to do. Then the morning came. We set out at 600 am and drove to the trailhead. We grabbed our packs, each weighing roughly 40 lbs and hiked a mile straight up to the mouth of the cave. The hike was brutal. When we got to the mouth of the cave, we sent our position to our emergency contacts. The instruction was that if we had not been heard from in 13 hours, they were to contact rescue personnel immediately. When we sent that text, the gravity of the situation set in, as well as the adrenaline.
We entered into the mouth of the cave the water streaming beneath our feet. Headlamps, on. As we got deeper into the cave, the daylight disappeared and the only thing you could see was what was right in front of you. Everything else was pitch black. It was cool, you could hear the stream rolling through and echoing off the walls. It was damp and chilly. As i observed everything around me, the awe and wonder began to set in. It was so spectacular. But it was nothing compared to what I was about to experience.
We hiked in for a while until we reached the first drop. To access the fantastic pit, we had to rappel down what is known as the warm-up pit. It’s a 125ft drop over a ledge and down into the pitch-black right next to a waterfall. We put on our harnesses and anchored our access line to the preset bolts in the rock. It was go time. Taylor opted to go first. He attached his system to the line and disappeared over the ledge into the darkness. I was next.. and I was as anxious as I was exhilarated. Then I heard his words signaling that he was in the floor and off line..it was my time kids.
I attached my system to the rope and started descending toward the ledge. I looked at my friend, all I could see was the light from his headlamp. I inched closer and closer, leaned back and sat down in my system as I saw his headlamp disappear. I was now descending in free space into pitch black. The waterfall was spraying all over me as I descended. I couldn’t help but laugh. It was the most exhilarating experience of my life. All I could hear was the roar of the waterfall. And all I could see was right in front of me... and I praised the Lord in my spirit for the experience. 125ft. I changed over my systems to pass the knot where we had attached two lines because we didn’t have a long enough rope.
I struggled because I had a 40 lbs pack on my back and I was suspended in free space, working my system over the knot. My anxiety began to peak. I was stuck on the rope next to a waterfall and My arms and core began to burn from the effort. I paused shut my eyes and took a deep breath and took in the experience. I gathered my bearing and accomplished the task at hand. When my feet touched down on the rocks below, I let out a shout of excitement..it was the gnarliest thing I’ve done to date.
Spiritual principle one: Before, during, and after, I was thinking about one bible verse. Hebrews 6:19 says “This hope we have as an anchor for the soul, a safe and steadfast hope that enters within the veil” When on rope, the anchor is the static point that keeps you from plummeting to death.
“The importance of a strong anchor cannot be overstated when your life is on the line. Before making the descent, I purposed in my heart that I would choose to trust that the anchor was strong. I would CHOOSE to trust the anchor.”
When I did that, fear was eliminated and I was able to be present in the experience because I wasn’t worried about the anchor holding me.
I was able to enjoy the experience even though I was completely exposed. My entire life was dependent on the anchor holding. Of course, I had a part in it. I did what I was trained to do. I tied my knots, I worked my system, I made the right moves, but still, the anchor is what held me. Ponder this with me As I relate this to my spiritual condition, especially recently, I understand that the Lord was showing me what it meant to trust. How often in our lives do we live in fear, anxiety, or worry? How often do we take things into our own hands because we cannot accept living our lives so exposed, so vulnerable?
Foolishly, we grasp and flail to get our hands on something that we feel will offer us more stability, more safety, solidity. We grasp frantically in fear that the anchor is not enough, that the anchor is going to fail, so I must secure myself or I will surely die. This is not trusting the anchor.. and in our fear, we miss out completely on the experience, we miss out on what is going on around us because our thinking has been obsessing over our safety.
We miss out on our connectivity to everything and everyone around us, but most of all, we overlook our connectivity to our Lord...our anchor. It is our connection to Christ, our anchor, that holds us securely. When we live in fear and in what we try to control, we demonstrate our mistrust. How it must hurt His heart when His flock says by action “you are not enough, you are not strong enough to hold me safely” We tell Jesus, the rock that cannot move, the rock that has never moved, that the weight of our life and the baggage that we carry outweighs His strength to sustain us.
God does not call us to a life of safety, but to a life of complete trust.. and we must CHOOSE to trust Him. We muse CHOOSE to abandon fear, we must set our hearts and minds to this one thought..that the anchor will hold. When I am in complete exposure when the wind and the water batter me in the darkness..we are connected to Him..and the anchor WILL hold. When I chose to trust the anchor point in that cave, my fear subsided to the grandeur of the experience.
And when I conquered that descent and my feet were planted on solid ground, I felt alive for the first time in a long time. I saw the beauty of the cave walls on the descent, I saw the grandeur of the underground formations and of the waterfall seemingly washing away all the hurt I had brought into that cave. I enjoyed every bit of that experience. I took my time on both the descent and the ascent of that rope when we climbed back out. I had no fear because I made a conscious decision to trust.
The holy writ says “TAKE courage” “TAKE heart” these things are not given to us, but they are there for the taking. So come, let us rise up and shed the chains of fear that dominates our senses, dominates the way that we conduct ourselves. Let us CHOOSE this day to trust the Lord our anchor will never fail, that we are connected to him and he will never fail us. Let us CHOOSE to trust in times of uncertainty and let us live our lives in the exposure with no fear.
Let us conquer our fears that we may enjoy the experience. And when we pass through it, on the other side we will give a shout of praise and victory. Let us let go of our need to control our circumstances as if we are the anchor of our own life and entrust our lives to Him who has never failed. Amen Lessons from the cave to be continued...

Budget-Friendly Outdoor Dining Space with IKEA Furniture
This post is sponsored by our very favorite budget-saving brand ever: IKEA.  All opinions are our own.
I don’t know about you, but I am ready for summer to begin!  It’s funny, we had REALLY mild weather til the end of February. About that time, we started feeling like, yes, winter is over.  Psych… it has been snowing, raining, hailing and you name it since then up until last week.  So- I am READY to get outdoors and really welcome the summer.
In preparation for this season, we invited a group of bloggers to join us for an Outdoor DIY Challenge (see more here) — and we have been working on our patio.  We showed you how we fixed the concrete on our 40 year old covered patio, and it was the perfect foundation for setting up an outdoor dining space!  We filmed everything, and I mean a whole  month of cleaning, painting, assembling, sewing, staging and all that jazz- but it is finally done.  So you must watch the video below to see how our covered patio became a cozy outdoor dining space below, and keep watching to see all the other amazing Outdoor DIY Challenge projects, too!
youtube
Covered Patio to Outdoor Dining Room Transformation
First things first, every good after has to start with a before or two. When we bought the house:
  After a long winter;
Cleaned off and ready to repair the concrete:
To help plan the space (and inspired by Dawn’s amazing virtual makeovers), I came up with a couple of Photoshop options. First I thought I’d try a dark wall since I’m really happy with it inside, for our fireplace, but ultimately I decided it was too boring for outside…
So we chose to match the bright green TEODORES chairs! (You might recognize the color from our wooden block art that hung here until we rearranged).
Painting the walls… We gave the left wall a couple coats of bright white paint and the back wall is a Glidden color called “Bright Teal Surprise” that we had color-matched to BEHR Ultra Exterior in satin. It’s the perfect name (surprise!) and I LOVE the color.  We are avid Disney fans and try to visit Disneyworld when possible and this bright color reminds me of Florida.  I could use a little more Florida in my life!
To see all the action of painting, installing, arranging, and decorating, check out the video, and if you want to see the after, well here you go! I’m so pleased with how the space came together.
Products we used in our patio space:
ÄPPLARÖ  Drop-leaf table
TEODORES Chairs (green)
VIVAN  Curtains
HUGAD Curtain rod
BETYDLIG  Wall/ceiling bracket
BJURSTA Wall-mounted drop-leaf table (x2)
ASKHOLMEN  Trellis
RAVENEA  Potted plant, Majesty palm
MUSKOT  Plant pot
REGOLIT  Pendant lamp shade
LAPPLJUNG RUTA Rug
TRILLING Poster
FEJKA  Artificial potted plant, hanging
FEJKA  Artificial potted plant, thyme
FEJKA   Artificial potted plant, daisy
MUSKOT  Plant pot
PAPAJA Plant pot, turquoise
PAPAJA  Plant pot, dark turquoise
The ÄPPLARÖ drop-leaf table gives plenty of space for our family or when we have friends or family over — we have 8 TEODORES chairs at the table, but we could fit one more in on each end for kiddos if we have a full house.
The white VIVAN curtains, which I hemmed to length and hung on a set of HUGAD rods with BETYDLIG brackets (see the video to see how we connected the shorter rods to be the length we needed), are such an affordable option to make this space feel really elegant and comfortable, and also give us great options for controlling the light as the sun sets. And I love the vibrant black and white of the LAPPLJUNG RUTA rug! It makes the fresh clean-slate painted concrete floor look that much better, in my opinion.
The REGOLIT pendant lamp shades are a great option for adding a large-scale element without being heavy or difficult to hang. And, bonus, they do a pretty good camouflage job on our not-yet-updated ceiling fan.
This view makes me SO happy! The RAVENEA Majesty palms (in MUSKOT pots) are perfect for adding to the Florida vibe.
The bright green TEODORES chairs are wonderful — bold and colorful for a statement, but pretty comfortable and easy to clean for real-world living.
The ASKHOLMEN trellis works double duty, adding a spot for some FEJKA plants for greenery while holding our SOMMAR 2018 BBQ spatula, fork, and tongs conveniently above the grill.
We added a black and white striped table runner, which really makes the white dishware, like our favorite classic white SOCKERÄRT pitcher, and turquoise/aqua accents pop in a fun modern way — the colorful SÖTVATTEN straws are always a favorite at our house, and the bright blue aqua of the SOMMAR 2018 tealight lantern is perfect for summer! Some trailing FEJKA plants add some greenery to the tablescape in the easiest way.
And the BJURSTA drop-down table makes the perfect outdoor serving bar — we actually used two together to create a longer bar area. Right now it’s loaded up with pretty FEJKA thyme, rosemary, and daisy plants in white MUSKOT and turquoise and dark turquoise PAPAJA pots and a the perfect miniature SOCKER watering can, but just imagine it all filled up with BBQ fixings or ice cream sundae toppings… THAT is summer! The super affordable FISKBO frames (watch for another project using those soon!) above the bar are holding the TRILLING shine bright print series, but they are so easy to swap out for a different print or even a menu for the meal, if we get to feeling a little fancy.
We are in love with our updated space and so excited to get plenty of use out of our covered patio this summer. We may never eat indoors again!
