Me and one of my friends were out on a little runestone safari in Täby and Vallentuna yesterday. This is one of the Jarlabanke Runestones. It's located at the causeway known as Jarlabanke's bridge. Jarlabanke was a well-to-do landowner who had the causeway built across a 150 m stretch of otherwise impassable wetland around 1050 CE. A third of the causeway has been reconstructed with the help of a drawing from the end of the 17th century (but of course we don't know if it really looked like that in Jarlabanke's day as well).

"Jarlabanke had these stones raised in memory of himself while alive, and made this bridge for his spirit, and he alone owned all of Täby. May God help his spirit."

🍔 Updated review ━ 📍 Bores ★★★☆☆ • Bores opened their first restaurant in Vallentuna, just outside central Stockholm, back in 2017, with lofty goals of revitalising the Swedish grill kiosk culture. Now, five years later, their direction has changed somewhat, and their updated franchise concept is to open personal and cosy restaurants a full bar. At the time of publication, they have nine restaurants in Stockholm, Linköping, Norrköping, Knivsta, Södertälje and Örebro, and our latest visit was at their central Norrköping location. We ordered two burgers there; a large Osten Deluxe with three mustard fried 70-gram beef patties, cheese, fried onions, lettuce, pickles and burger sauce, plus a large The Bacon with the same meat, plus cheese, bacon, lettuce, pickled onions, burger sauce and barbecue sauce. These triple burgers cost 154 SEK (14 USD) each, plus an additional 30 SEK (2.5 USD) for a menu with french fries and a soft drink. • Our burgers hadn't been assembled with any care, and when we grabbed them we immediately noticed that the buns were cold – but thankfully still quite soft and squishy. Our Osten Deluxe was exceedingly soft, and the large amounts of cheese took over most of the flavours and textures. The other ingredients struggled to make an impact, as the burger mainly tasted of soft cheese. We did like the beef's crust and flavour though. And our The Bacon had better textures, much thanks to the bacon, but it could have been a bit crisper. The french fries were of the standard variety, and were neither good nor bad. • The burgers from Bores aren't as exciting as they were before, and it feels like the quality has dropped during their pursuit of the new concept and expansion plans over the last few years.
