hey dils!! was listening to sunshine riptide and thought of u so i wanted to say i hope ur taking care and also ask if u have any favorite fob videos/interviews?? lately i have been obsessed w the promo video patrick did for the honda civic tour where he drove around LA and said the only reason they got the tour was because he already drove a civic ahsjdbd
first of all it is SO flattering that listening to sunshine riptide made you think of me 🥺
secondly i was molded out of clay to answer this question, 100% i have a lot that i think about like way too often
the one where petes giving a tour of his parents house where he lived at the time and was showing off his stuff and was particularly very excited about the fact that his band was turned into action figures and then half way through andy shows up and is like "were best friends forever!" and petes like "yeah andy comes over for sleepovers a lot, we hang out in my basement and make zines and stuff" and then at the end he gets all excited cuz he hears his moms car pull up and he goes out and shes coming out of the car and then patrick gets out of the car carrying groceries and petes like "here mom me and patrick can put the groceries away you finish the interview" and shes like "no- pete i just got home from work im a mess" and hes like "what? no! no mom you look great, you can finish the interview well take in the groceries" and then she did and the camera crew came back to the two of them messing around and putting groceries away.
"pete wentz is honestly the only way to describe pete wentz. hes the most complicated guy i know." [cut to] "if anyone can make a strike without touching the lane i will pay you $300" *throws bowling balls straight into the air* *runs down the lane*
ok but in all seriousness i love that interview not only for that iconic moment but because later the footage is like blaring i dont care and pete goes and grabs a stuffed giraffe out of the prize thingie and hes like "what do you mean :)? we bought this with our tickets!!" and the editors are very much trying to make it a bad boy rebel without a cause moment except if you looked the woman behind the counter had a smile on her face and was laughing and then afterwards he gave it back and said "we werent really gonna steal it" but it really seemed like she knew that already
and then at a different point a couple fans showed up and they were all shy and excited to meet him and he was just like "hey are you guys coming to the show later" and they were like "yeah" and he was like "cool! thanks for coming out :) do you want a picture?" and they took a picture and it seemed like he was still kinda excited that people were excited to meet him. marcus (their bodyguard) was like trailing behind him and smiling and laughing throughout most of these antics and i just think thats sweet.
later in this same interview once again as they were on the ride back to their hotel or whatever theyd brought back a fake moustache and patrick put it on and did a bunch of dumb impressions.
patrick: if i wasnt doing music i think id be like a music critic or music journalist or something
andy:...i thought you said youd work at walmart
theres this one srar era interview thats just joe and patrick riffing for like 15 minutes. like it looks like they just straight up forgot the interviewer was there its so funny theyre such good friends.
this one joe and pete interview where i dont even really remember what they were talking about but theres a moment where joes talking about music with this intense passion and pete just kinda looks at him with this level of brotherly pride that keeps me going
this one andy and pete interview where 1) there were waterfowl chillin behind them which was deeply fascinating to andy and 2) they took a moment to swivel their chairs and hug each other bc theyre besties
band superlatives, specifically the moment where theyre all separately like "technically marcus isnt in the band but like. its marcus." bc that was sweet, unofficial 5th member of fob. and also "whos the most talented" "patrick. patrick. its patrick, hands down." "hm. petes like a really good soccer player" like thats a moment out of a fucking sitcom
halloween asmr with pete wentz. the man cant act but god can he commit to a bit.
there was this like live text chat that they all were in with fans on some radio station website. there were a lot of very fun moments, including joe saying "this is very current technology." as a comment on how very dated the live chat was and andy being like "can we set an icon i wanna change mine to an XVX" and pete and joe being like "oh are you vegan straight edge? we had no idea." and then pete was like "actually i wanna change my icon to andy hurley" and andy was like "no pete im not gonna send you a picture of me" and he was like :( and then a minute later he changed it to andy and he was like, and i swear this is almost a direct quote "BOOM! i love my life haha" and andy was like "goddammit" like i have no idea where to find this but it was so good.
theres this one "this or that" interview with joe and andy wherein the interviewer was a woman and like she seemed pretty at ease around them and got to the last question and imo seemed kinda uncomfortable and kind of established (in a way that seemed like she didnt usually do that) that it was a gross question, which was "would you have sex with a super hot celebrity but shes just died" and both of them were like "hey. what the fuck. absolutely not." and shes like "oh thats a first" and they are both like "do people say yes to that????????" and shes like "youre literally the first people to say no haha" in a way that made it seem that she did not find it funny and i just find that to be an interesting moment and i hope shes doing well and has a better producer now.
theres this one interview w andy on a hardcore podcast where the interviewer asks andy "do you every wish fall out boy were more political?" and he said (paraphrasing) "fall out boy is political, in its own way. we may not be as explicit with our politics as my other stuff, but kids find fall out boy, and through me, with all my other bands, or through joe, since he does a lot of metal, find heavier stuff, and are introduced to this stuff and to being vegan straight edge or anarchist or just more radical politics, and i dont think that just because we arent being super political in our music we arent a political band" which was really something to me bc i had just been thinking about that as a concept i call "gateway punk"
theres this one interview i recently found of a very small chicago music news outlet where a young lady interviewed pete and asked far more interesting questions than any other interviewer id ever seen and one such question was how he felt about the legalization of marijuana in illinois and he said that it was cool that it was legal but everyone locked up for it right now should be released and i like that he got to be political
theres a moment on the badass jew podcast episode joe was on where the interviewer whomst i do not recall was espousing some veiled antiblack sentiments wrt some antisemitic comments some famous black people had made and joe just completely rebutted it immediately and pointed out that black people not only are not a monolith bht are at a greater disadvantage
and also he made a joke that i could never make and cant fully get bc im not jewish but it was very funny and i love hearing people make jokes that arent for me.
this one interview before patrick had kids where he was saying how everyone kept asking him and elisa when theyd have kids and he was like "you cant just make that happen yknow? how do you just do that?" and pete immediately grinned and leaned over and mock whispered "you have sex" and patrick punched the air and was like "i hate you so much"
that one interview about abap where pete was like "we actually got the guy who did the whistles on patience by guns n roses to do it on this" and then he looks over at patrick and patrick shakes his head and petes like "you couldnt let me have this?" and he was like "i was gonna but then you looked at me and i just couldnt."
"whats the most important thing to you right now?"
patrick: star wars
joe: my daughter.
patrick: ...my son?
the puppy interview. everyone involved including the puppies was having the time of their goddamn life.
i have to stop this is too much its been like an hour

It was something no one expected Ransom to do; but he did it anyway.
He was just lounging in his home one day and he took one of the many notebooks he had lying around and suddenly found himself sketching different clothing articles. By the time he was able to tear his focus and hands away from the notebook, it was already 11:45 at night, “Huh, so in the past five hours I was able to design 11 clothes,” he quietly thought to himself as he closed the notebook that contained his ideas and headed to bed.
The following day consisted mostly of doing two things; more designing and making calls. He was looking for possible suppliers who could give him the materials he needed in order to bring his designs to life. He also ordered his assistant to look for tailors who were willing to sew and stitch them to life, as he did not have any intentions on making those himself. Searching for a place to lease to station where the clothes would be made and sold was also something he did.
All of that happened almost 19 months ago; Ransom just suddenly had the idea of creating his own clothing line and he was successful in that endeavor. His brand was known for its eloquent and classy designs, while still being comfortable and affordable. It was also a bonus that the materials they used were cruelty-free and vegan; though this wasn’t really his idea, something his assistant had suggested and something he mindlessly agreed with as he was burying himself in designing a dress.
When his family found out about his current endeavor, there were various reactions in response. Joni seemed to be legitimately excited to see if Ransom’s design would match her taste and even told him how she was willing to post about his line on her Instagram. Meg and Walt finally had something in common as they both teased him and questioned his sexuality since he suddenly became interested in fashion; even his own father silently had the same thoughts and concerns. His mother, however, was somewhat proud of her son following in her footsteps and making a name for himself. While Harlan was surprised on how he was persistent in pursuing fashion, for he always thought that his first grandson would be his successor in terms of writing and in handling the publishing company.
Ransom, having had enough of their judgmental comments and half-assed support, snapped at them once he broke the news as they were enjoying dessert, “Alright, all of you, eat shit! No offense, Mom, but you had a loan from Granddad and without his money you’d be nowhere! Joni, cut the shit! We all know you rely on those brand deals you have and of course, on our family’s money. And Walt? At least I’m gonna make something of my own! Unlike you who just relies heavily on the books Granddad gives you to publish. And what the fuck does fashion have to do with one’s sexuality? If clothes make people gay then why are you wearing that sorry excuse of an outfit? Scared people might find your dick too small?”
And with that, he left the house as a sea of screams and commotion followed him, but he chose to ignore it of course.
In the span of those 19 months, his clothing line took off. Critics spoke highly of it, consumers couldn't get enough of his designs, and he was being constantly praised for his creativity. So it made Ransom feel as if he was on top of the world.
After his designs being featured on various fashion shows and being worn by numerous celebrities, the pressure to put out equally great designs was taking a toll on Ransom. Hence why he often spends time on the main store and headquarters he had in Boston. The place was fairly spacious — it had an office for where he could have meetings or design some of his clothes, a spacious and luxurious space for the customers to try on the clothes, rows of sewing machine next to an array of cloth for the workers whom he fairly compensated for their hard work, and even a small circular platform placed in front of mirrors for alterations.
Ransom advised his staff to go home early to enjoy the start of the weekend and he would be the one to close the store and balance what they had already sold and what was left. As he was busy in the counter checking the log and counting the money, he heard the chimes of the bell that hung above the door make a sound, directing his attention to where a lovely woman stepped into the store and it felt as if all the oxygen in his body left his body with how breathtaking the woman was.
“We’re about to close in a few minutes,” was all he managed to let out as the woman stood on the opposite side of the counter; she just smiled as she placed the gown wrapped in plastic down on the counter, “Oh? I’m so sorry but I was just wondering if I can have this gown altered? I bought it hastily last week and only got to try it on two days ago since I was incredibly busy with work and realized how loose it was on me.”
He looked down on the gown as he spoke, “Yeah well we close earlier on Fridays so,” prolonging the word so, he noticed how she moved as if she was about to exit the establishment, but he wondered, “What is the work you do that kept you busy?”
The question surprised both of them; Ransom didn’t know as to why he was curious about it, but it probably had to do with how he just wanted an excuse to talk to her and listen to her soothing voice. While Y/N didn’t realize that those were one of the requirements in order to have a dress altered, she told him anyway what kept her busy.
Nodding his head, he made an impulsive decision, “My assistants just left, but I can take care of it. It shouldn’t be a big problem” Her eyes lit up excitedly and she smiled widely and thanked him for being able to accommodate her. “Just go to one of the dressing rooms and change to the gown, and head to where the platform is — just right across, okay?” She nodded and followed to where his hands pointed to where he’d be waiting for her.
As she scurried off to the change, he found himself questioning himself as he switched off the open sign, grabbed a notebook, pen, and measuring tape, and waited for her to come out. Why the hell am I making such an effort for her? And when she did step out of the dressing room and made her way to step on the circular elevated platform, he remembered just why he was going out of his way to serve her; because she looked fucking gorgeous, especially seeing her wear a gown he designed.
Standing on the platform, she shyly looked at him to which he found adorable, “Why don’t you spin around slowly for me?” She nodded and did so, “What seems to be the problem with the gown?”
With her back facing him, she craned her neck and replied, “I found the length to be too long, I’m afraid I might trip on it,” as she faced him he noticed how he was standing dangerously close, and his facial features were dead serious, “So you just want to trim it a bit?”
She nodded, “Would it be possible to create a slit?” And just as she made that suggestion, she bunched up a bit of the gown and showed him how she wanted the slit to look like; but all it did to Ransom was make him drool with how luscious and soft her legs looked like. “Okay, yeah that’s something we can do.”
Grabbing a small container full of sewing pins he took hold of the bunched up fabric she held in her hand and told her he got it. “You know when I designed these gowns, you were exactly the target buyers I had in mind,” she tilted her to the side, confused with what he meant so he further explained, “Gorgeous, elegant, and absolutely stunning; especially once they wear my clothes.”
Her cheeks suddenly became a dark shade of red as she tried to shrug off his compliment, “Well I don’t really wear these kinds of clothes, but when a wedding comes, you have to.” As he was placing the pins on the fabrics, he looked up from where he was sitting on the platform, him being eye level with her thigh was doing nothing to prevent him from nursing a hard on, “A wedding you say?”
Snatching a glance from where her hands rested on her hips to get out of his way, he took note of the lack of ring and voiced out his observation, “I’m not seeing any ring on both your hands, so I’m gonna assume that you’re not the bride?” She laughed softly and shook her head, “No, I'm not the bride-to-be, my best friend is.”
“Good to know,” Ransom said softly and she didn’t hear it well and was about to question what he just said as she felt the sewing pins poke her skin. “Ow, fuck!” She yelped, which made the designer realize that instead of piercing through the dress, he accidently lightly grazed her leg. “Fuck, I’m sorry!” He apologized as he pulled the pin and wiped her upper thigh that started to bleed a little.
Feeling his warm hand envelope her hand and the thumb swiping away the crimson liquid, made her feel tingly as she looked down on him. Inching his face closer to her thigh, he looked up at her as his lips touched the area that he unintentionally hurt her in, “I’m so sorry for hurting you,” Y/N was stunned as his lips were back on her thigh after apologizing.
Breathlessly, she just nodded and was surprised both his hands took a hold of her ankles and were softly caressing her just like how his lips were being gentle with her flesh. As his hands were sliding up towards her shins, she could feel the goosebumps on her skin rise, and by the time they reached her thighs, that was the only time Ransom detached his lips from her skin, “You taste divine, baby girl. But I’m not done with making it up to you.”
Having a sudden surge of confidence, Y/N spoke out, “Then keep kissing me if you want to make it up to me.” Ransom too, was surprised because this meek-looking beauty demanded him to do something, “I beg your pardon?” It was her turn to be brave and brazen as she smirked down on him, “Keep on kissing my thighs or else I’ll leave a bad review of your services.”
Quickly, Ransom placed his lips back on her thigh, kissing and smooching every inch he could find; he wasn’t sure if he was threatened with how his business could be negatively affected or was he just turned out at the prospect of being told by this beautiful woman to keep on admiring her figure.
Tangling her fingers on his hair, she tugged at him and guided her where she wanted his mouth as he gave verbal directions, “Higher, baby, kiss me higher.” Though his eyes were darkened with pleasure of having to know what her skin tastes like and aroused with how he met someone who was able to tell her what she wants and bosses him around; he’s never had someone do that to him, for it was always him calling the shots.
Poking his tongue out, he traced over the outline of her lace underwear which resulted in her letting out a moan and tightening her grip on his hair — urging him to keep going. Moving from her thigh, he kissed his way until he was face to face with the center of her pussy. Inhaling her scent, he closed his eyes as he groaned and took in her addictive scent and lunged forward to kiss and lick her clothed core. Even with the fabric in its way, he was nipping on her pussy lips and licking through it, getting a faint taste of her.
“Oh, more please,” she gasped out in pleasure; and with that plea Ransom moaned as he tore his mouth from where he was making out with her clit and smirked as she heard her sigh at the sudden loss of contact. Looking up at her, he gave her a grin as he asked, “Did you honestly think you would be the one who’ll call all the shots, baby?”
Somehow, her crimson red cheeks managed to turn into an even deeper shade of it at what he said. He then moved to pull her panties down her legs, he didn’t even wait for her to kick them out of her as he immediately licked from her clit down to her opening. Moaning out, she trembled a bit and Ransom’s hands latched themselves onto her thighs to help prevent her from falling.
“Careful now baby girl,” he warned her as he looked up to see her flushed face starting to drip with sweat, his lips never fully removing themselves from her clit so with every word he spoke the vibrations was felt throughout her core, “Wouldn’t want you to injure yourself. How are you gonna turn up to the wedding then?”
As he finished his question, his tongue pushed itself into her tight opening and swirled around inside. Feeling dainty fingers push his face further, he was able to get a better taste of her juices that began to drip down to his tongue and he hissed at how delectable they were. Pulling out his tongue from her pussy, he immediately licked his way up to her swollen clit, “You taste amazing, baby,” he moaned out as he focused his efforts into sucking her clit hard and fast, feeling her thighs began to shake — a sign that she was close to her orgasm.
But Ransom wouldn’t let her cum right away, his left hand left the warmth of her thigh and slapped her clit multiple times, she opened her eyes in shock and looked down on the designer, aroused and elated with what he did. Getting the hint that she enjoyed what he did he teased her by saying, “You like it when I slap that clit?” Seeing how she nodded and bit her lip, he went on and slapped her clit multiple times but with not a lot of force, and his tongue went on to caress her tight opening until she once again began to quiver.
“God you’re such a filthy slut,” he stated as he stopped the movements his tongue and hand were doing, and went on to bite lightly her thigh, “I’m gonna have so much fun with you. Have to make sure my customer leaves this place satisfied with my services.” As he mentioned the double entendre, his voice was laced with desire and hunger.
Giving her thigh one last kiss, he stood up from the platform and placed his hands on her hips and lifted her so she stood on the ground just like he was. Grabbing the back of her neck, he pushed her against him so their lips met and they began to hungrily make out. Her hands were at his cheeks, softly grazing his cheeks which contradicts how their tongues were roughly dancing with each other. While Ransom’s other hand was feeling for the zipper on her back, unzipping it and pushing the dress off of her.
Moving both his hands to touch her back, he noticed the lack of bra and felt how her nipples harden against the fabric of his shirt, he separated their lips from where they were entangled and looked down to see her breasts, “Such a nasty little girl you are, aren’t you? Wearing this gown with no bra underneath, like you wanted me to see just how good your boobs are.”
She shook her head, “The gown goes well best without a bra,” she defended. Amused with her reply Ransom decided that they’ve had enough foreplay; both his hands planted on her hips and pulled her back so it was flush against his front, “And you know what would go best with your divine body? My cock and cum,” one of his hands grabbed onto his cock and rubbed the tip of it against her folds, feeling her shudder at the sensation, “So come on and take it.”
“Shit baby girl, you’re so tight for a slut,” Ransom groaned as he threw his head back with how her walls squeezed his hard dick in one smooth motion. The hand that guided his cock in repositioned itself and held onto her hair, pulling her head back and arching her back away from his chest, which contrasted the way her ass was pushing back to accommodate Ransom’s cock.
Hand in her hair and the other on her hip, Ransom was pulling her into his cock with sharp, fast, and harsh thrusts; while her moans and whines did nothing but to fuel him to drive his thick meat deeper in her. “You like this don’t you, baby? You like how I’m just ramming into you like you’re nothing but a whore?” He taunted as he let go of her hip and began to rub, twist, and pull at her nipples.
Y/N could only nod, too blissed out to give out a verbal response for the way he was deliciously torturing her nipples disabled her from forming a coherent sentence, much less a thought. Unhappy with how she responded, he let go of her hair and slapped both her ass cheeks, “Answer me! Tell me you like it!”
She went still for a moment due to the sting of his slaps, she widened her eyes and peered over her shoulder to look at him, “I love it! I love how you’re treating me, sir.” The title she had given him made him even more feral as he ordered her, “Look in the mirror slut, look at how desperate you are for me.”
Feeling shy from seeing her blissed out state on the reflection, she instead diverted her gaze on the man behind her who was mercilessly pounding into her. She found it absolutely hot how his jaw was clenched so hard and his eyebrows were furrowed; it made her clench down on him hard which led to Ransom to slam deep inside her and grab onto her shoulders, “You’re close aren’t you, baby? You’re about to cum on my cock aren’t you?” She nodded and whined, “Yes, sir, I’m so close. Please let me cum,” he chuckled in appreciation, she begged him to cum without even telling her to do so.
Speeding up the pace of his thrusts, his one hand was now alternating with rubbing and pinching her clit, in order to get her right on the edge. His lips were resting against her ear, his pants were only turning her on even more and with a final pinch of his fingers, she was cumming hard and with a loud wail.
Feeling how her walls squeezed him too tight to the point he couldn’t move anymore, Ransom stilled inside her and wrapped his arms around her stomach, “Fuck, you feel good.” After a couple of breaths, Ransom collapsed to sit down on the platform, taking her with him. Sitting down, he took the time to steady his breaths and recover from the intensity of their intercourse and orgasm.
Snaking his hand to her cheek, he tilted her head enough for him to plant his lips on hers and let her give a faint taste of her own juices and he pulled apart from her not without planting a small kiss, “The gown will be ready in a week, baby. And it’s on me.”

Rose Apple Pie Recipe
My extended family always asks me for the recipe for my pies when my mom posts pics of them on Facebook, but I don’t follow one, coherent recipe, and I don’t want to take credit for the source recipes, so I’m compiling it all here!
Crust
I follow this Easy Vegan Pie Crust recipe but use 2 tsp of sugar instead of 1/4 tsp. I choose Almond Breeze unsweetened almond milk as my nondairy milk, if that’s important.
Filling
I make the filling from this Vegan Apple Pie recipe, but I use 1/4 cup of sugar instead of 1 cup and only 3 apples (this depends on how big the apples are, of course! I use ones the size of a tennis ball— I would say: medium-small. Make sure to have one more apple than you think you need just in case!). Honeycrisp and Granny Smith apples both work well.
🌻✨ If either of these links stop working in the future, let me know, and I can send you the ingredients and instructions!
Directions
1. Make the crust according to the IDTLC recipe; don’t forget the extra sugar! Do not pre-cook the crust. Keep the finished crust in the fridge while you complete the next few steps.
Tumblr media
Personally, after lightly tossing the milk into the dough mix with a fork, I knead the dough instead of continuing to mix it with a fork as the recipe says. I also refrigerate the dough for half an hour before rolling it. And I don’t use a tea towel— just a floured cutting board (flour your rolling pin, too!). It’s helpful refrigerate your mixing bowl and any utensils you use (keeps the shortening from melting). Once you have shaped the crust, you can stab the bottom of the crust a bunch with a fork. This allegedly keeps the crust from forming massive air pockets.
2. Mix 1/4 cup sugar with the flour, spices, and salt according to Hy-vee’s recipe in a small bowl, and set aside.
3. Slice the apples thinly enough that they can bend to form a “U” or crescent without snapping.
I cut my slices so thin that they are transparent. You can definitely get away with cutting them thicker, especially since, after sitting in the sugar for just a minute or two, they will become softer and more flexible. I’ve never tried cutting the slices with a mandolin because I don’t have one, but I bet that would be more convenient; you can try it!
4. Coat the bottom of the pie crust with a couple spoonfuls of the sugar mixture.
5. Place the apple slices into a large bowl*, and coat them with some of the sugar mixture, being careful not to break any slices (they are delicate). Try to leave some of the mixture leftover for dipping any slices that didn’t get properly coated, as you go along.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*It’s best to coat the slices in batches— starting by putting the largest apple slices into the bowl first, then arranging them as the the outer “petals” of the rose, and then moving onto the medium ones, and then onto the small ones.
6. Arrange the apple slices in the shape of a rose. Start by placing the largest slices around the edges and work your way down to the smallest slices as you reach the center. Place them as you would assemble a choir: for each new row, look for “windows” in the previous row. Once you get to the very center, roll your smallest, thinnest slices into tight spirals. You can follow along with this video, starting at 1:49, if you need to (though, she doesn’t place them exactly how I do, and her slices are thicker and more uniform in size). I posted a few short time lapses of me arranging the slices on Imgur, but I don’t think they’ll be all that helpful lol
7. Now that you’ve finished your design, pour any sugar mixture you still have left over the top of the pie. Prioritize the edges of the pie as opposed to the center, as the extra sugar on the edges will balance the crust. For aesthetic purposes, use a pastry brush to sweep the sugar off of the colorful apple skins and into the gaps between the apples. Lightly dampen the brush in water and dissolve any white spots that still remain an eyesore.
8. Put the pie in the fridge while you preheat the oven to 375°F. Bake the pie for fifteen minutes on the lowest rack of the oven. Then, lower the temperature down to 350°F and continue baking for 1 hour 15 minutes.
My Comments
I’m sorry, I know it’s inconvenient to go between this post and the two recipes linked and to have to remember all of the changes I made, but I don’t want to take clicks away from the ppl who made the recipes lol. It might be helpful to compile/write down the whole recipe first if you actually plan on making this.
I know it’s odd that I decrease the sugar in Hy-vee’s filling but not the flour or spices or even the salt... But, trust me, it’s so good that way! It doesn’t come out tasting salty, but the extra salt in proportion to the sugar brings out such an intense, excellent flavor. I don’t know if the flour makes much of a difference; I just never thought to decrease it lol
I actually think that Hy-vee’s pie crust tastes better than It Doesn’t Taste Like Chicken’s. It’s been almost two years since I last made Hy-vee’s crust, so I may be overrating it, but I remember loving it sm. The only problem is that Hy-vee’s crust is a bit... hard... which makes it even more difficult to cut a pie which is already destined to be challenging to slice by design. The dough is also more difficult to make imo. IDTLC’s is so flaky, and the rest of my family thinks it tastes better than Hy-vee’s (I disagree!!)... Vegetable shortening is almost tasteless. I bet someone has made pretty much the same recipe as IDTLC but with vegan butter instead of shortening, and I bet that’s a lot more flavorful. But the whole reason I even found Hy-vee’s and IDTLC’s recipes is because I am so stubborn and never buy vegan butter, so I specifically searched for recipes that did not call for it.

Day 86: Here is now feeling more like a steady job than an internship; which I am totally okay with. I arrived only to be sent right back out. Apparently the director and costumer, who are husband and wife, have “together” decided to re-do the entire costume plot. Fun thing I learned at Here, if someone in a position of power doesn’t know your name they can’t/ won’t ask you to do anything for them. Reed, the director of CBox, knows my name. So, I was sent out to buy the new costumes. It was a lovely errand. I actually enjoy running errands because I feel like a real intern instead of just a super-cool, over-achieving employee that’s not on payroll. I was sent to a clothing store to purchase a ton of black button downs. I returned victorious to meet the costumer/playwright/wife of the director. She introduced herself, yet another person who can task me with things, and sent me back out for more costume pieces. The store was a block away from By Chloe, so I grabbed a vegan mac n cheese with mushroom bacon and veggie meatball pesto sub. I pleased the stressed out costumer with my finds, and pleased my stomach with delicious, cheap, healthy food. Once I finished eating, they had started their tech and didn’t need us anymore. We did a little cleaning/organizing and then I had to duck out early to pick up pizza for a meeting with our music professor. The group decided on Two Boots. It has become my favourite pizza place in the city. We met and talked about all the music events we had gone to, as if our post show thoughts and papers weren’t enough. But we had to cut the meeting short because both Kendra and I had theatre tickets. I headed out to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The entire outside of the Lunt-Fontane theatre was decked out in Wonka gear. I was super psyched to see Christian Borle on stage again as well as see the work of Here’s resident puppetry artist, Basil Twist. A bunch of people from the Here office got to attend their final dress rehearsal and had given me their opinions. Well, Christian Borle was a fabulous Willy Wonka and the Charlie that I saw, they have three, was precious and had a good voice. Basil’s Oompa Loompas were fantastic; they really stole the show design-wise. The interior of the factory was underwhelming to me. There was too much of a reliance on projections to simulate the wacky factory. Some of it worked, most of it fell flat. The edible room of “Pure Imagination” was cute and creatively done but again disappointed me. I wasn’t completely thrilled with the directions they went with the other children. Augustus Gloop is hard to mess up so he was pretty okay. Violet was a modern internet sensatition, “Queen of Pop”. She was a little too over the top for me. Veruca was a Russian ballerina, for whatever reason. The only good that came out of it was when she met the gigantic squirrels and danced a nutcracker suite with them. Mike Tevee was a punk, left-wing, millennial. I enjoyed him for the most part and took it as a great commentary on millennials, but it was a little much for a kids show. What the set lacked in magic Christian and the young Charlie made up for with their stage presence. Overall I enjoyed it, even though the rich family from Jersey sitting in front of me would not shut up. They were every sterotype of trashy, rich, New Jersians. I headed back to the hotel and picked u some chips and guac for a late dinner/ late night snack. I enjoyed guac and Netflix before going to bed. Back at Here for another exciting day of babysitting tech tomorrow.

Since ur answering all asks, I'm vegan and I don't know if it would be better to become a RD or to go the route of naturopathy? I feel like people don't take naturopaths seriously and at the same time I don't know if I'm up for all the crap I'm going to hear about animal products / false information going to dietetics... which one do u think would be more beneficial for a vegan, pros and cons to each?
I think either would be great!
A vegan dietitian would be good for vegans who struggle with what & how to eat, so it’d be nice for them to be able to go to someone who understands their lifestyle since there is WAY too many RD’s who are so against veganism and tell their clients they need to consume animal products or they need to take a bunch of supplements etc.
And a vegan naturopath is also good because we actually have one in Adelaide that I went to and I also know of a bunch of people who went to him as well and he’s done more for me then any doctor ever has and I’m so glad that I was directed to him by some lovely people on social media. Lots of vegans and non-vegans love the idea of the natural approach to health and healing.
I genuinely think both are a good idea :)

Hey - Pat from StarterStory.com here with another interview.Today's interview is with Krystian Frencel (u/bunchofanimals) of Bunch of Animals, a brand that makes men's boxer briefsSome stats:Product: men's boxer briefsRevenue/mo: $5,000Started: October 2018Location: TorontoFounders: 1Employees: 0Hello! Who are you and what business did you start?Hello, my name is Krystian Frencel, and I’m the founder of Bunch of Animals, a men’s luxury underwear brand, AKA, the Bentley of banana hammocks. I’m also the co-founder of a Toronto based design and development studio, 3magine. I don’t have previous e-commerce experience and have never been involved in creating a physical product. I have wanted to combine my experience in web design/development with creating a physical product and learning e-commerce for some time now.And so, I created the world’s softest underwear.Softer than Katy Perry’s lips, two-hand touch football and Charmin Ultra Soft tissues.“Best underpants I've ever owned and feels like nothing at all.”“The softest underwear I've ever worn and it felt like wearing nothing at all. LOVE the print!”“OMG, I LOVE these..... Thank you so much... Did I order any more? I want more... :)”“It feels like wearing air. High altitude air.”Our flagship products are softer than soft men’s boxer briefs featuring beautiful, seamless designs created in collaboration with artists from around the world.I launched the brand in November 2018 and man, what a ride it’s been 😂Current sales are about $5,000/mo, with 500+ customers and an AOV of $52 (2 pairs)Let’s start at the very beginning.imageWhat's your backstory and how did you come up with the idea?In late 2014, I came across a very unique underwear brand from Australia, Stonemen Underwear. I think I found them on Instagram. What really drew me to the underwear were the seamless prints which looked like pieces of art sprawling across like a painting on a canvas. The prints continued without interruption across the front stitch lines such that when you were looking at the underwear from the front or the back you’d be seeing a beautiful piece of art, uninterrupted.Check out the picture below for what continuity in the design through stitch lines looks like.imageYou see, most men’s underwear (be it a brief, trunk or boxer-brief) is made up of two pieces of fabric stitched together to form the underwear. The two pieces are cut out from random locations of a fully printed sheet of fabric and sewn together. This means the prints will never line up. But Stonemen’s prints did line up. And they looked good!Wild horses running across the steppe, mountainous landscapes right out of a painting or some really wild illustrations. I have to say I was blown away a little bit. I’ve never seen anything like this before.Naturally, I had to have them and placed an order for two pairs of briefs (at that time I was strictly a grape smugglers kind of guy) with two prints I really liked. The underwear turned out to be a bit on the expensive side. $65 a pair after shipping, taxes and duties. It ended up taking about a month for it to arrive (I’m making this up. I don’t remember how long it took. It was 2014 man. You probably don’t remember what you had for breakfast last Tuesday). But when I finally got them I was excited. The prints were really nice! The fabric was soft. I put them on and thought to myself, “Damn!”. I was a bit into working out back then, so you know, I looked ok. I’d pause in front of the mirror for a bit longer than usual. Not gonna lie.I loved the way they looked but more so I loved the way they made me feel. I genuinely felt better about myself because of the underwear I was wearing. What a concept. Better underwear. Better self-esteem.It turned out I wasn’t the only one who loved the underwear. You see, 2014 was also the year my ex-wife and I separated. Probably the hardest part of my life to get through. I was dating again and whenever a lucky lady got me down to my underpants, I saw those eyes light up 😂But really, they would often give me the nicest compliments about the underwear. That made me feel really good. I think women get compliments way more than men do. When was the last time you were told that you looked like the sexy beast that you are?Naturally I wanted more. More of this kind of underwear. More compliments. The thing was, I only liked a few of the Stonemen prints. The underwear itself was quite expensive and shipping from Australia to Canada took too long. So I started searching for other printed underwear brands and came across two; PSD Underwear and MeUndies. At the time PSD was only making polyester underwear and my nuts are too bouji for that. Yours are too. Believe me. MeUndies was using MicroModal, a fabric I’ve never heard about but I wasn’t really a fan of the prints so I passed on them as well. The MeUndies prints were also not seamless. But I really wanted more printed underwear! So I decided to try and make my own.Take us through the process of designing, prototyping, and manufacturing your first product.I started by deconstructing, AKA pulling out the stitches from a pair of the Stonemen briefs. Created a paper form of the two pieces that made up the brief, and had it digitized.I also connected with a graphic designer who helped set artwork into the digitized template and made it match at the edges for a beautiful seamless print.imageI started researching different types of fabrics and their respective printing methods. Printing on cotton was called Direct To Garment (DTG). Printing on Polyester was via Sublimation. Polyester prints look cheap and the fabric itself doesn’t feel all that great on your body. So I decided to try my luck with cotton. This is what Stonemen used and at this point I have not yet touched MicroModal. That’s like never having tried whatever the most incredible dish you’ve ever had the pleasure of sinking your teeth into. If you’re a vegan it would be that stick of celery you dream about every night.I searched for local sewing classes first, thinking I was going to learn to sew myself. I don’t know what I was thinking. I was eventually recommended a sewing shop by one of the sewing classes/workshop places I contacted. This is where I met the owner of the shop, a masterful older German lady. She reminded me of my father a bit, an old soul with an immense amount of knowledge and experience. She was an expert at her craft. She talked me through the manufacturing process and taught me a lot about it. She connected me with a fabric supplier, a waistband supplier and set out a timeline to create prototypes. All I had to do was provide the printed templates of the underwear on a roll of fabric. Now, there were two ways of printing on cotton; via a press printer, or a roll printer. The underwear template is quite large and the press printers I found did not have print beds large enough to accommodate the size. I did, however, find one print shop that used roll printers. The company was also one of the largest in the city with an impressive portfolio.I remember driving to the print shop with a big smile on my face. Got a tour of the plant and many valuable lessons on the printing process itself. I felt like everything was coming together. It was too easy.I had the fabric. I had the sewing shop lined up and now I was working with one of the largest print shops in the city. It was peanut butter and jelly time.I dropped a roll of cotton and 2 weeks later came back to pick it up printed with the individual underwear templates. I didn’t even check the prints. I popped the roll on my shoulder and spirited away to the sewing shop.Man, I felt amazing. I was on top of the world.I remember walking into the sewing shop very excited. We got into the prototyping room, put the roll on the table and gave it a little push from both sides to unroll it. The various colours from the different prints hit first. This was a walk in the park. But wait. Something wasn’t right. The individual underwear shapes looked off. I took a closer look and started noticing that every single underwear template was distorted. WTF. This was my first humbling experience where I was brought back down to earth. Slammed right to the ground. It turned out that when the printer pulled the fabric through, it was stretching it as the fabric contains some Elastane in it, so the underwear can lightly stretch around the natural curves of the body. The underwear template was printed while the fabric was stretched out. When it came off the roll, and the fabric came back into shape, the templates were skewed.Fuck!I reached out to the manufacturer of the printing machine the print shop used. I asked for the contact information of all their customers in Canada. I started calling them up one by one (I don’t even think there were more than 5) and asked if they could make print prototypes. I was unable to get a guarantee from any of them, that the printed templates would not be skewed when the fabric was stretched during printing. I started looking to the U.S. but the problem was the same. There were some companies that were willing to try but the production costs associated with creating samples were just too high. I never thought of what I was doing as a business idea. I just really, really wanted to make some god damn great looking underwear for myself. And I couldn’t.So I gave up.That is…until the beginning of 2017 when I came across an ad for MeUndies on Facebook. Than I saw them on Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Pinterest, Snapchat, Podcasts...they were everywhere. And I thought to myself. I’m going to do this! I’m going to try again.Their prints were still not seamless but their tagline had my full attention. “The world’s softest underwear”. I wanted to see what that was all about and ordered a pair of briefs (Still grape smuggling). It turns out, MicroModal is not from this earth. It must be some advanced alien technology. It is so goddamn soft words cannot describe it. Soooooo much softer than cotton. If you’ve never touched MicroModal in your life do yourself a favour and grab some underwear made of this fabric. You can of course try out the world’s softest underwear at https://bunchofanimals.com. Seriously. Your nuts will be blown away.I think this is as much hyping as I can give MicroModal, so let’s continue the story. The cut of the underwear was a fail for me. My balls kept coming out on the sides. I never had this happen to me before in a pair of briefs. I thought the size was too large, but the waistband fit just right. On the butt they felt fine. But the front had leakage. And so I got to work.I first looked in China and found a few companies who agreed to make samples for a reasonable price. I sent over my original underwear template files with the prints set in them and the waiting game began. You know, Chinese companies get bombarded with sample requests every single day. MicroModal is a luxury fabric and carries a higher price tag than cotton and is much more difficult to source. Turns out the samples I was able to get could only be printed on cotton with an assurance that they were going to print just as well on MicroModal. The samples I received were Cotton and Polyester. The quality of the prints was nowhere near what I wanted. I tried again with another manufacturer with the same result. There was also the language barrier. I found it a bit difficult to communicate and convey ideas. I also realized that if I wanted to get the type of prints I was looking for, I’d have to get off my ass, put a lot of time into researching manufacturing companies, building personal relationships with them and taking a trip to China to visit them and get to know them. Building a personal relationship is key to setting a good foundation to build on.But China was far away. I have a 9 year old son who I share custody of. I have significant commitments to 3magine as well. How was I gonna pull this off? I wasn’t.I needed to get a printed MicroModal sample first, before I would make a decision to travel. This was going to be my new qualifier. And if I contact enough companies, it was bound to happen. So I started getting in touch with factories in India, Sri-Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, South Korea, Romania, Poland, Italy and England. Where I found MicroModal I couldn’t find anyone with the ability to print on it. Turns out that because MicroModal is so soft, it’s very difficult to print on.I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to just give up. But for some reason I didn’t. It’s hard to say why. Is it motivation? Is it the process? Is it the end goal? It’s probably all of it. But somehow, the Universe aligned and I was introduced to a gentleman from Turkey who was representing a textile factory. We chatted about what I wanted to create. From that first conversation I had a feeling that these guys knew what they were doing. It was very easy to talk to them. I sent over the files. Everything was clear and about a week later I got this photo.imageHot Damn! They did it. The prints looked delicious. The fabric was the softest I have ever touched. I resurrected and went back to heaven. We started working on the cuts. Briefs, trunks and boxer-briefs for men. Thongs, bikinis and boyshorts for women.“Krystian, come to Istanbul my friend. You have to see the city. We will talk with the factory owner and make a deal”.The prints were perfect. The fabric was softer than anything I’ve ever touched before. There was no ball overhang. I had to go. That was the next logical step.I chose the 5 days when our son was with his mom the following week and used my credit card points to book a flight to Istanbul.Oh Istanbul. A beautiful city. A magical city. The architecture. The mosques. The traffic. The people. The Bazaar. The food.I could write an entire post just on the culinary delights of Istanbul.Shitting into a hole in the ground with a water hose to wash your ass was definitely the highlight of the trip. It’s good to experience pooping in a foreign place, unlike the one you’re used to. It’s also quite a humbling experience. And if you have a toilet with multiple buttons and a heated seat, you should be very grateful as you’ve been blessed in life.I spent 5 days in Turkey. It was working around the clock with their team on finalizing prints, cuts, order quantities and manufacturing timelines. I returned home jetlagged but happier than a pig in a blanket. It was really happening!A few days later I got a text from my main man in Turkey. He was taking a position with a much larger textile factory. He got an offer he couldn’t refuse.Things come and go in a blink of an eye. He was my main and only point of contact and the only one I knew at the factory who spoke English well. I could not believe this was happening again. It was very draining emotionally. We tried working on the prototypes again with the new factory he was representing. We had to start from the beginning. New deposits on fabric. On printing. On waistbands.Samples came few and far between until they stopped coming entirely. I was out of money. I didn’t have a product. I felt defeated. The relationship came to an end. It was full of lessons, the highest of highs, and the lowest of lows.Describe the process of launching the business.I’m just being dramatic :) There is a happy ending after all.In the week leading up to my trip to Istanbul I was also introduced to another gentleman in Turkey who I was told could possibly connect me with textile manufacturers. I didn’t have a chance to meet with him because of the short time I had and because I was committed to working with my previous contact. It didn’t feel right to go behind his back and work with someone else. The circumstances were different now and I reached out to him, presented my idea, sent all the files over and waited for an answer.“Krystian, my brother, don’t worry about anything. We will make the best underwear for you.”He wasn’t lying.I don’t know if he’s the Prince of Turkey or if he just really likes my smile because he went out of his way to pull together the best of the best. We have the softest, most luxurious MicroModal fabric. I have tried numerous MicroModal underwear from other brands. We have the softest fabric! When we worked on the final prototypes, the factory making our waistbands stopped manufacturing them and we were forced to look for another manufacturer. Don’t ask me how, but we (and by we I mean my amazing Turkish brother) connected with a factory from Italy making waistbands for two high end luxury fashion houses. These waistbands are on another level of soft. Made in Italy. Like Ferrari. We have the Ferrari of waistbands. Our prints are vibrant, and do not fade in the wash. We print in a full spectrum of colors where all other brands print on MicroModal in a maximum of 9 colors.Remember when I mentioned I was a brief kind of guy before this all started? Somewhere along the prototyping journey I got the first pair of MicroModal boxer-briefs. My previous relationship with boxer-briefs wasn’t a great one. Always riding up. Or going in my ass. Or my balls were sweaty. Just stop texting already. Block my number! And believe me, I wasn’t expecting much out of these Micro-Modal boxer briefs because they were boxer-briefs. But these were a different beast. I couldn’t believe how soft they were on my skin. When I had them on, I would forget I was wearing underwear. It felt as if I was wearing nothing at all. But everything was firmly in place. No flocking around. Alien tech I tell ya. We’re living in the future. Now picture this. MicroModal is 3X softer than cotton! 3X! You have $100 in your pocket. Now you have $300. You have a day off. Ok. You’re happy. Now you have three days off. That’s not a day off anymore. That’s a fucking weekend. You now have a weekend getaway planned. Exactly! We started with a small run of 100 pieces to validate the product and gather feedback.I gave all 100 pairs away. To friends, to family, to my professional network, to complete strangers. I wanted to get a wide range of people to try them out and eliminate any last issues that remained. The feedback from men was nothing short of amazing. Feedback from women was about 50% excellent, but the other 50% was all over the place. It’s too tight. Too loose. Too high. Too low.The factory had a minimum order quantity of 1000 pieces per design, per style. I took out a line of credit and between it and credit cards, I had enough for 3000 pieces. I decided to cut out the women’s line altogether as well as the men’s briefs and trunks. My research showed that the boxer-brief was the most popular cut, and this is what I was going to start building my underwear empire with.I created an underwear template in Photoshop onto which I’d drop various designs, photographs and illustrations and curated about 100 unique designs. With the help of friends and my professional network I narrowed that down to a final 10. Because I could only afford 3 designs, I had to choose the best 3, and so in May 2018 I designed the Bunch of Animals website to validate the best designs as well as pricing. The product images were just Photoshop renders, but they looked good enough. My business partner at 3magine helped develop the website on the Shopify platform. I took an online Facebook Ads course and launched a number of ads using the Photoshop renders of the various designs.imageI didn’t really know what I was doing, but was able to get a 2X ROA which was good enough to validate pricing and get an idea of the 3 best designs. These initial tests brought in my first 100 customers. Problem was, I didn’t have any stock 😲I emailed everyone personally and apologized for the lack of product, and a 3-month timeline before I could have it. Over 70% were willing to wait. A lot of the remaining 30% who asked for a refund also asked to be emailed when the product came in as they really loved the designs, and a lot of them became customers.I received my first stock of 3000 pieces in October 2018. I sent out the initial orders to the first customers and decided to spend the last $10,000 in credit on Facebook Ads during November and December, the biggest shopping months of the year. The ads did not work as well as over the summer. Turns out that because Q4 is the most popular shopping season, it is also the most expensive time for ads. I was barely able to break a 1X ROA. I hired two different advertising agencies to help me run the ads, but they weren’t able to even hit a 1X ROA. I spent all the remaining money, and although I gained new customers I was operating at a loss. Once again I felt defeated.December was definitely a low point for me in this journey. I was out of money and out of hope. I felt lost and depressed. I got a nasty case of bronchitis in early January that lasted 3 long weeks that put me in an even worse mental state. But it was also a blessing in disguise. I’ve been a daily marijuana smoker for the last 10 years. I started smoking as a suggestion from my ex-brother in law to help with insomnia. At the time 3magine was experiencing rapid growth, I had just moved to B.C. with my ex-wife and our 1-year old son. I had a lot of stress and anxiety. It started off as a remedy for sleep but eventually became an addiction and an escape from the black and white of the everyday.Because of the bronchitis I did not smoke for those 3 weeks. I started feeling different. My mind was becoming more clear. I was feeling better emotionally. The break from Bunch of Animals lasted for about 2 months, and in March 2019 I decided to get back into it.Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers? In early 2019 I met a wonderful copywriter, Larissa Banting, through a private Facebook Group for a course we were both in. She has helped me tremendously with copywriting and blogger outreach. Product copy, emails, articles, captions, you name it.I decided to try out various marketing channels in an effort to identify the most profitable ones, that took the least amount of effort and resources to execute.Facebook Ads, Instagram Ads, Instagram Influencers, Bloggers, Pinterest, SEO and Email marketing are all active areas of focus.Since March I’ve ran a number of new Facebook ad campaigns with some success. I’ve been able to get 1.5X ROAS which put me at a slight loss, but generate new customers, who I hope to convert into lifetime customers. About 30% of the current customers have purchased 3 pairs of more, with a few who have purchased over 10 pairs!I’ve also worked with a number of sponsored mail-outs with various lifestyle and men’s brands, which have brought in some profit. At this point thought, every dollar earned goes right back into another campaign. In July, I’ve partnered with another e-commerce brand to bring my underwear to Amazon as well as niche markets in Europe and the Middle East.imageHow are you doing today and what does the future look like?I’m currently working on 2 new design collaborations with amazing artists as well as 3 solid colours to be introduced in the Fall.I’m thinking of getting back into Facebook ads, but this time with video ads as I just wrapped up working with a video production company on a couple of short videos as well as a photoshoot with some great BTS footage.Definitely more mail-outs with great brands. I’m also starting to look for outside investment. I validated the idea and have received phenomenal feedback on the product. Additional funds would allow me to scale a lot faster. I want to introduce more designs and really push Facebook ads.By beginning of 2020 I’d like to introduce a new design each month, as well as start a monthly underwear subscription club.imageThrough starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?I’ve been an entrepreneur for the past 15 years but nothing has really prepared me for running an e-commerce brand with the exception of one important element. Patience. If you put effort towards anything you’re passionate about, you are bound to collect the fruits of your labour.imageWhat platform/tools do you use for your business?Sales Platform: ShopifyEmail Marketing: KlaviyoEmail Capture: OptinMonsterFulfillment: Chit ChatsWhat have been the most influential books, podcasts, or other resources?I haven’t listened to any podcasts, but have participated in Jesse Elder’s and Cat Howel’s Time Piercing Course which has greatly helped with motivation, mindset and manifestation. This is also where I met Larissa.I have also read the following books which I found very helpful. Sometimes a book may only contain a single tip or insight, but it could very well be a life changer, and it’s all well worth it.CashvertisingContagious: Why Things Catch OnInfluence: The Psychology of PersuasionAdvice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting out?Don’t get discouraged by failure. Think of it like playing a video game. The strategy may not have worked, but you can always try a different move. Meal Prep Week-Long Power Bowls
You’ve probably seen the meal prep trend online where dozens and dozens of meals are prepped in containers for the entire week? Holy moly. I can say that will probably never be me. I once tried an over-ambitious meal prep and not only did I end up with way too much food, but it took up most of my day.
On the flip side, I’ve realized that my veggie intake falls pretty flat when I don’t do any prep at all.
Soooo….there has to be a happy medium!?
This little dilemma is exactly why I came up with a simple plan that totally fits into my life these days. The recipe below (which is totally customizable!) takes less than 30 mins of active prep time, but makes enough food for several portions, increasing the odds that you’ll be a veggie powerhouse for the workweek. *arm flex* I love how I can quickly reheat a couple things and build a hearty, nutritious bowl in a matter of minutes!
My meal prep method has been going like this:
Roast two huge sheets of veggies
Cook a grain
Chop a couple fresh veggies (sometimes I skip this if I’m tight on time)
Have toppings on hand, ready-to-roll—things like avocado, nuts/seeds, beans, dressing, etc.
This method has dramatically changed my meals in recent weeks (specifically, lunches) and increased my veggie consumption a ton. All of the ingredients can be changed up so it never has to be repetitive and you can be flexible with using what you have in your fridge/pantry. It helps cut down waste because you can easily use up those “on the verge of dying” veggies in your crisper. Just throw ‘em in the oven and roast the heck out of ‘em! And if you get tired of bowls, throw the prepped food into delicious wraps or even soups/stews.
If you’re feeling extra-ambitious and want to prep even more food, I’d recommend adding one or more of the following tasty items:
Homemade dressing (try my Lemon-Tahini Dressing, Shake-and-Go Balsamic Vinaigrette from Oh She Glows Every Day, p. 273, or Roasted Garlic and Red Wine Vinaigrette)
Energy bites/balls (such as my Chocolate Hemp or Triple Almond Energy Balls)
Soup/stew
Chia pudding (lately I’ve been making a double-batch of my 2-Ingredient Chia Pudding found in the new “Blissed Out Breakfast Bowls” recipe in the app! Such a perfect snack.)
I’ve provided a detailed recipe below because it helps to have something to work from the first time, but like I said, feel free to run with it. If you simply commit to roasting 2 big sheets of veggies, cook a grain, and chop some fresh veggies….you’ll be well on your way to making easy throw-together power bowls all week long. My future hangry self has been thanking me a lot.
Before I go, I want to mention that The Oh She Glows Recipe App is still on sale for 99 cents in the Apple iTunes Store until mid-March! You’ll find these delicious power bowls in there, as well as more than 160 of my favourite plant-based recipes (this number includes 30 app exclusive recipes too). Happy cooking :)

Meal Prep Week-Long Power Bowls
Vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, refined sugar-free, soy-free
I love having prepped food in the fridge, but don’t love doing hours of meal prep each week. So I came up with this simple method that takes just 25 minutes of active prep time. The healthy food components can be enjoyed for several days in power bowls, wraps, and even stirred into soups! Power bowls are so fun for family meals because you can switch up the veggies and toppings to suit each palate, giving kids control to build their own bowls. This recipe is also a handy make-ahead option if you’re having friends over for a meal. Simply chop all the veggies the night before and refrigerate them in containers. Just before your guests arrive, pop the veggies into the oven, cook the quinoa, and prep the toppings. After cooking, you can all have fun assembling your own power bowls and everyone will be super impressed by the stunning rainbow-coloured meal!
Yield 8 servings
Prep time 25 Minutes
Cook time 35 Minutes
Total time 1 Hour
Ingredients:
For the roasted veggies:
3 small (680 g) sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped (4 cups)
4 cups (500 g) brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved*
1 medium (800 g) cauliflower, chopped into small florets (4 heaping cups)
1 medium (230 g) red onion, peeled and chopped
2 large (500 g) red bell peppers, seeded and chopped
3 tablespoons (45 mL) extra-virgin olive oil, divided
Salt and pepper, to taste
For the quinoa:
2 cups (400 g) uncooked quinoa**
For the fresh veggies:
1 medium (370 g) English cucumber, chopped
1 medium (135 g) bunch green onions, chopped
2 cups (255 g) grape tomatoes (1 dry pint)
For the power bowl toppings:
Chopped lettuce/greens (Romaine, Iceberg, kale, etc)
Salad dressing***
Ripe avocados
Cooked beans or lentils
Nuts and seeds (I use hemp hearts and roasted pepitas)
Hummus or pesto
Directions:
Position two oven racks near the middle of the oven. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line two extra-large (15- x 21-inches) rimmed baking sheets with parchment paper. It’s important to use extra-large baking sheets so there’s enough room for all those healthy veggies.
Divide the chopped, “to-be-roasted” veggies onto the baking sheets. Drizzle 1 1/2 tablespoons of oil over top each sheet and toss the veggies until they’re fully coated in the oil. Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper.
Roast the veggies for 30 to 40 minutes (I find 35 minutes is perfect in my oven for lightly charred veggies) until fork tender and golden. There’s no need to rotate/move the pans or flip the veggies halfway through baking unless you’re particular about even cooking.
While the veggies are roasting, add the quinoa to a large pot along with 3 1/2 cups (875 mL) water. Stir. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, then immediately reduce the heat to low-medium, cover with a tight-fitting lid, and cook for 12 to 14 minutes, until the water is absorbed and the quinoa is fluffy. Remove the lid and fluff the cooked quinoa with a fork.
While the quinoa cooks, chop the cucumber and green onions. Rinse the tomatoes (I hold off slicing them until just before serving).
Remove the roasted veggies from the oven. Once mostly cool, transfer all of the veggies and quinoa into containers, seal with airtight lids, and place into the fridge for up to 4 days.
To make the power bowls: Add a couple generous handfuls of chopped lettuce/greens to the bottom of a large shallow bowl. Drizzle with a bit of dressing and toss the lettuce/greens until coated. Top with spoonfuls of your prepped food (quinoa, roasted and fresh veggies)—I always warm up the quinoa and roasted veggies first! Now, add diced avocado, more salad dressing, cooked beans or lentils, nuts and seeds, and hummus or pesto. Keep the power bowl flavours interesting by changing up the toppings each day!
Tips:
* If your brussels sprouts are quite large, quarter them instead of halving.
** If you don't think you'll eat this much quinoa in 4 to 5 days, feel free to halve this amount (use 1 cup uncooked quinoa + 1.75 cups water).
*** Looking for a delicious homemade dressing? Try my Lemon-Tahini Dressing, Shake-and-Go Balsamic Vinaigrette (Oh She Glows Every Day, p. 273), or Roasted Garlic and Red Wine Vinaigrette. I always keep Maison Orphee Italian on hand when I don't have homemade dressing prepped.
Feel free to roast a head of garlic along with the veggies. The roasted cloves are especially delicious thrown into my Roasted Garlic and Red Wine Vinaigrette found in my Warm + Roasted Winter Salad Bowl recipe.
Make it nut-free: Top your bowl with seeds (such as roasted pepita seeds and hemp hearts) instead of nuts and make sure your dressing is nut-free.

╰☆╮MUSE 46 — wait, is that cerise “reese” du pont? is it just me or does the twenty-one year-old look exactly like abigail cowen? last i heard, they still weren’t over being exposed by the sentinel. according to the app, they can be credulous & turbulent, but i’ve also heard they're intrepid & audacious. can’t be too sure, people have a way of surprising you. all i know is that they remind me of vape scented smoke appearing in the middle of lecture , filming viral tik tok’s in public , the brushing down of a horse , forgetting a pencil but remembering to bring the juul to class & drinking homemade moonshine for barbie movie drinking games. honestly, the broadcast communications major should try to keep their head down. after the events of last semester, i wouldn’t want to be in their shoes. ╰☆╮
wow hey hi hello!! i’m kaya and this is my lil crackhead, reese!! this got really long because i never know when to shut up but if you want to plot pls hit me up here on tumblr or on discord at medieval 4loko gang#5402
P A R A L L E L S
gigi ( booksmart ) , keanu reeves ( always be my maybe ) , serena van der woodsen ( gossip girl ) , kirby anders ( dynasty )
T R O P E S
hard-drinking party girl , cloudcuckoolander , the trickster , upper-class equestrian , fleeting passionate hobbies , naive animal lover , fearless fool , playing with fire , parental neglect , fantasy-forbidding father
S U M M A R Y
born and raised in wilmington, delaware on the du pont family ranch, reese learned how to ride and compete on her family’s thoroughbreds. she’s a seasoned equestrian who typically competed in eventing and throughout the years had accumulated a series of ribbons and trophies between dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. definitely was a horse girl growing up and tbh still is???? definitely not the type to eat grass anymore BUT if given the chance she will not shut up about them.
a veterinarian before marrying into the du pont family, reese’s mother had their ranch doubling as both a home and veterinary clinic where the kids would help with the animals and keep them company. this caused reese to develop a soft spot for them, one that contributed to her going vegetarian at the age of 12 and eventually vegan at 15. it was also this love of animals that led her to wanting to help the environment they lived in and so her parents put her in girl scouts and eventually her love for the outdoors would cause her to join steinhardt’s outing club.
while her mother, eleanor, also helps out with the du pont family business of breeding thoroughbreds as well as run her clinic, her father, pierre, is a chairman of dupont, a conglomerate who got its start in the black powder market before expanding into chemicals for agriculture, materials science, and specialty products.
he was the type to have HIGH expectations for his family, expectations that reese never met. not that she cared to. definitely not a daddy’s girl, she’ll be the first one to call her father out for being a pompous douche straight to his face. probably quoted this to her father during a thanksgiving toast of “what are we thankful for this year”.
the black sheep of her family, even at a young age she could be found stirring up some trouble and almost always dragging one of her siblings or cousins along with her. a rebellious child who didn’t like being put into a box, she lived in a fantasy world of whimsy, often playing make-believe much to her father’s chagrin. she believed in all things fantastical from fairies to mermaids and while pierre tried to stifle those thoughts, they stubbornly remained.
even through her teenage years she’s held onto the firm belief that barbie lore is real. no one knows if she actually believes that or if it’s all of the drugs and her love for the movies getting to her head, but when confronted about it she will always be adamant that it’s a legitimate form of history.
speaking of history, her concept of it is slightly skewed?? def has weird beliefs of what communists are?? like you’re an android user??? suddenly she thinks you’re a communist????
tbh you could probably tell her something about anything and she’ll believe you without a hint of doubt. research?? she dunno her!! you could say the moon is a government con-job and she’d think it’s a fact??? super gullible and it’s a mess
i guess now would be a good time to preface that she’s dumb. stupid. an idiot. the list goes on but when i say she’s lacking brain cells… i mean it. the definition of head empty, she probably has a bunch of rocks where her brain should be sdfgh. but really, she can be innovative when she wants to be but academically she just doesn’t care to do well. in high school she ditched classes more often than not and was probably the kid smoking under the bleachers.
but where she lacks in intelligence she makes up for in brawn??? def the brawn over brains type who was a jock in high school. competed for her school’s equestrian team but also was on the fencing and archery teams. she once begged to be put into archery lessons after seeing the princess diaries 2 and fencing just came along not too soon after. she also used to run track and play soccer but those two sports ended after her senior year of high school although she probably still plays for the steinhardt’s intermurral league as well as any athletic competitions her sorority, tri-zeta ( zeta zeta zeta ) enters.
definitely the jack of all trades type except she’s passable at a whole bunch of things but good at none of them. probably can change a tire but it’ll need to be changed again soon. can bake a cake but it’ll be a little dry. the list goes on. she’s just very curious and picks up a lot of things but gets bored of them easily so she changes to the next thing.
okay i know i said she could bake a cake but she really…can’t. like with supervision she probably could but she’s impulsive and following directions for that many ingredients??? impossible. she just gets tempted to toss everything into a bowl and wing it and she does that every time. she can however make rice krispy treats. especially if they’re suppose to be edibles dfghj. but ya, don’t ask her to cook bc she can. not.
a stoner and overall drug connoisseur, she’s probably most known for being that kid who forgets to bring their backpack to class but don’t worry!! she remembered her juul!! has a collection of juuls on her person at all times. definitely that party girl who shows up hungover to class whenever she did bother to show up.
calls herself an entrepreneur because she used to sell edibles and other drug-related things and definitely was that tweet where she would give discounts if you signed an environmental petition or went to a protest.
has never said no to a dare EVER. you name it and she’ll do it. and if you dare her to drink cow titty milk or eat a piece of meat she’ll do it but it just makes you a dick dfghj
gets bored easily and tends to lash out and do something chaotic because of it?? the type to spontaneously light a couch on fire because she felt like it. a mild pyromaniac who once learned how to make a molotov cocktail. she can’t do it well. at all. but the one time she did try was also the same day she realized what a dumpster fire looked like.
i’m also not saying she’s out here to ruin your life for her own whims but like home girl has ZERO boundaries for anything. if you want to say she was a homewrecker in a past relationship??? honestly full send because it probably was her. morally she’s chaotic neutral and doesn’t care to be good or evil, she just wants to live her life of chaos and whatever happens happens. it should also be noted that she’s selfish. she puts herself first and others second always.
god someone pls try to start a fight with her. she’d either pat you on the head and ignore you OR go feral and just…foam at the mouth and bite you. probably claims to have gingervitis which is where she like…sprays vegan whip cream into her mouth and just… attacks you. for fun.
WOW ALMOST FORGOT but she’s a big larper!!! loves to go to the ones that are historical-esque where she can be an elf ( because she has a collection of elf ear tips dfghjk ) and acts as a knight/ranger by using her ACTUAL fencing, archery, and equestrian skills. she learned sindarin ( elvish ) for this but also she’s a big lord of the rings fan in general so it just worked out. her character’s storyline is her acting as her cousin, taay’s, protector but she has been known to enroll in a few competitions regarding any of her three skills.
currently selling moonshine alongside her roommates of trap zeta ( also known as the residents of the moonshine & roses subplot ) and so if you saw her running around with stolen pressure cookers, that is why !! making your own alcohol is illegal, but selling it??? even worse so they only sell it to trusted customers and anyone vetted by their usual customers. they probably have secret passwords and shit just like the prohibition period.
speaking of trap zeta, with the exception of fraternities on greek row, they throw the biggest parties. their jungle juice??? fire AND strong but also, they keep it in like....these dispensing chugs with a key so the only ones with access to fill them up or trap zeta themselves. they also have a stripper pole ( or two ) around their living room so like...ya get lit, get twisted, go off ig.
let it be known that their sorority, tri-zeta, is actually known for their stellar amount of community service but after the residents of trap zeta moved in together their sophomore year, the rep for partying started to increase and that’s why the home of muse 46-50 is nicknamed trap zeta. reese has probably been sent to standards way too many times and only got in and is still in bc her mother is a very generous alumni of steinhardt’s chapter of tri-zeta.
a broadcast communications major, she’s a social media intern for steinhardt’s barstool page but most importantly has a whole tik tok account alongside her roommates dedicated to their college antics. think the hype house except it’s not pg-13 dancing and rly just their crackhead, drunk antics. might eventually make a playlist of tik tok’s that are probably posted on their account, we’ll see.
okay so you know the whole exposing of secrets from last semester??? reese doesn’t usually get mad but rn she Big Mad. like not only are they be scrutinized by the dean but their sorority is too and suddenly tensions are high between tri-zeta bc if trap zeta gets caught they all suffer and their chapter will be shut down and it’ll be a whole ass mess. atm she suspects their customers and even their somewhat rivals, the drug dealers of the ludes plot, but does she suspect anyone from the house??? no not rly
you can find her  stats page here and a wc page here
you can also find her pinterest board here
i also have a reese playlist here and a trap zeta playlist here

Ask Angela: High-protein vegan entrées, turning muffins into doughnuts, how I soak seeds/nuts, and more!
Hello, I’m back with another Ask Angela on this glorious spring Friday…keep those questions coming! Also, be sure to check out this week’s latest Glow Getter post featuring a fun interview with Fresh Restaurants founder Ruth Tal.
Q1. Hi Angela! I’m wondering if you can share your highest-protein dishes, especially main course? Thank you. :)
Hi Patricia, Happy to help! The good news is many of my entrées tend to be high in protein, as I try to include one or more protein-rich plant ingredients within—things like lentils, beans, tofu, greens, and nuts/seeds. Here are some options you may want to get started with!
Sun-dried Tomato, Mushroom, and Spinach Tofu Quiche
DIY Burrito Bowl (shown in the intro photo!)
My Favourite Vegan Chili with Homemade Sour Cream
Golden Red Lentil Dal with Cilantro-Speckled Basmati
Next Level Vegan Enchiladas
Glowing Spiced Lentil Soup
Protein Power Goddess Bowl
The Best Marinated Lentils (Oh She Glows Every Day, p. 129)
Marinated Italian Tofu (Oh She Glow Glows Every Day, p. 135)
These last two recipes are great to mix and match with a variety of meals like salads, wraps, roasted veggies, etc., for a high-protein boost. And feel free to poke around my Entrées page for more recipes!
Q2. I love your Chia Power Doughnuts from The Oh She Glows Cookbook and bought two 6-mold doughnut pans just to make them. Unfortunately my kids don’t enjoy the doughnuts as much as I do, so the pans are now collecting dust. I’m wondering if you have any more nutrient-dense doughnut recipes to feed my kids, or if you have any muffin recipes that you think would hold up in doughnut form? Is there a way I can adjust the muffin bake time to use a doughnut mold for them instead? Thank you—our family LOVES your recipes, and I love reading your blog.
Hey Lindsay, I’m so glad you asked this question! I’ve actually been wondering the same thing myself, so I figured this was the perfect time to test out one of my muffin recipes! Thanks for the inspiration. :) After looking over my various muffin recipes, I decided to give my Blissful Blueberry Banana Spelt Muffin recipe a whirl using this standard-sized doughnut tin. I opted to leave out the blueberries and walnuts for a simple banana-cinnamon flavour, and I followed the ingredient measurements as written. I greased the doughnut tin with coconut oil spray and then added two heaping tablespoons of batter into each mold, smoothing out the tops as I went. I baked them for 15 minutes at 350°F (180°C), until the doughnuts slowly sprang back when touched. They rose a lot, so next time I may only add 2 tablespoons of batter into each, but we weren’t complaining! They have a lightly sweet taste and fluffy texture with little bits of mashed banana throughout. I’d say they are basically muffins in doughnut-shape instead! I spread them with a bit of Coconut Whipped Cream for Arlo and he gobbled them right up. All in all, I’d say it was a success and would love to hear what you think if you try it out.
Q3. Hi Angela! I’m a big fan of spice mixes, so I just made your Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix using freshly ground nutmeg and freshly ground allspice. Can you please direct me to some of your recipes that call for Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix? Thank you from sunny Vancouver Island!
Hey Laurie, Yum…I think your comment made me crave pumpkin spice, because yesterday I tested a cake recipe with this very mix. Too good! For a rich, decadent at-home latte, you might want to try my Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte with Salted Pumpkin Spice Syrup. My Mini Pumpkin Pie Tarts with a Sunflower Cookie Crust are definitely crowd-pleasers too! I’d also suggest checking out recipes that list warming spices in their ingredients (like nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves), and swapping the Pumpkin Pie Spice Mix in for those. My Creamy Pumpkin Pie Smoothie for Two and High-Rise Pumpkin Cupcakes (Oh She Glows Every Day, p. 224) can be tweaked to use the pumpkin spice mix instead. I hope that helps!
Q4. Hi Angela, I am making your Crowd-Pleasing Vegan Caesar Salad and soaking nuts for the first time. I have a couple questions! Do I soak the nuts in a specific amount of water overnight? Do I use the water in the recipe, or does that water actually go in the dressing when making it? Thanks a bunch.
Hey Sue, Thanks for your question! I’m so glad you’re trying this recipe out—it’s one of my most popular! Actually, I don’t measure the amount of water I soak nuts or seeds in…I just make sure to cover the nuts/seeds completely and leave about an extra inch of water as they expand/plump a bit as they soak. After soaking, I always rinse the nuts/seeds and then drain the water off before proceeding with the recipe. I hope this helps and please let me know how the Caesar dressing goes!
“I’ve made your Vegan Lasagna with Basil Cashew Cheeze several times now— including once gluten-free using brown rice lasagna noodles—and it’s incredibly delicious. My husband LOVES the recipe and I do too! He has a dairy allergy and now he says he finally “gets” why everyone loves lasagna! Thanks for this great recipe!”
Aww, what a sweet comment from your husband. That made me smile. Thanks so much for making this lasagna a staple in your kitchen, Maria!
