Fanfiction Epilogue - Not Enough (Vereena)
He took a final breath, at the same time as his opponent did, the squelch of organs, of pierced bone. His lightsaber slid out in a noise, a disturbance of cauterized flesh, blood unable to flood, unable to show the morbid scene of war. Clean. Too clean. Sterile. There is no satisfaction from a body without blood, looking around for another poor soul to take to the other side, all he saw were black robes, carrying long strides around the perimeter of the battlefield, sheathing swords, the pulse of their iconic weapons quieted as the clouds overhead rolled in.
A drop of coolness fell on his head. Rain. The trees moved like angry waves, swaying against each other, crashing into another, loosening branches and leaves, it looked like the trees were crying. Delayed, the wind came. The smell of dead bodies fresh on its tails, no more the scent of flowers, no more the fragrance of living woods. Inhaling the deepest breath he’s had since today, getting two lung fulls of death. Victory.
He faced skyward, his eyes meeting the low dense clouds, moving in with the speed of the wind, they gathered on top of him, an explosion of grey. Opening, the clouds sounded with a boom. A boom so loud it shook his heart from the cage he put it in. A warning shot of thunder, the rain came, the cloud burst in a roar. In an instant, nothing was left dry.
Still, he looked. He looked at the beauty of the rain, surrendering himself under its power, there is no escaping its wrath. Appreciate it, ask for it, it brings life, it brings…
He saw the sky but there was something else behind his eyes. The rain brought her to him again. Bullets of it targeted his armour, making the metal clink. It shot the reality escaped by him on his face, the drops stung his eyes, pricked at his cheeks like needles. And he fell. Under the weight of his decision, he fell knees first to the wet ground, sinking into it, his lightsaber in front of him, a reminder. The last images of her haunted him, on the field of victory, he thought of her. Of the many times she was by his side, cheering along with his warriors, fighting for him, loving him. No one else could.
He promised himself no more tears, nowhere else for the weight to go, his arms acted out of control, supporting him, fingers dug into mud, grasping a handful of something only for it to slip out from between the spaces. Something possessed and lost.
A freeze overtook the hardened flesh of his heart, it broke the chains of his cage, shattered and drowned in the humid rain falling on top of him. His body isn’t his anymore, nothing belonged to him. Now, the hatred came in droves, and the anger, it was too much all at once, flowing too fast for him to take a moment to drink in the power. His emotions flying past him, ignoring him, flooding him, smothering him.
“My lord, are you alright?”
No more sound, other than his panting. And the rain.
“Should I bring the medic? My lord?”
His lightsaber. It talked without words. Its speech fell on deafness. He was the one wielding it, he was master of his own fate, he was the death of himself.
“Lord Malgus?”
He sunk deeper under him, his emotions eating him, it was too light a meal.
He was not enough.

The Witcher Casts Game of Thrones’ Tormund and More for Season 2
February 21, 2020 10:42 PM EST
With the second season about to begin production, Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher is adding a Game of Thrones vet and more for Season 2.
With its debut in December of last year, Netflix’s highly-anticipated The Witcher series managed to deliver a strikingly faithful adaptation of the massively popular book series, which also inspired CD Projekt Red’s acclaimed series of games. Though the series launched two months ago, its popularity has not waned at all and still ranks as one of Netflix’s most popular series ever. Given its success so far, it’s no surprise that Netflix appears to be stocking up for the series’ second season with a bigger scope and an even bigger cast.
Netflix has officially announced a few of the new faces that will be joining the cast of The Witcher for its second season which is in the beginning stages of production, with seven new cast members to join the series. You can find the full list from Netflix below:
The Continent just got a little bigger. Here’s the new cast of #TheWitcher Season 2:
Yasen Atour as Coen Agnes Bjorn as Vereena Paul Bullion as Lambert Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia Mecia Simson as Francesca
— NX (@NXOnNetflix) February 21, 2020
The most prominent name among the new cast members announced for the series’ second season is Kristofer Hivju, who many will most likely recognize as Tormund Giantsbane from HBO’s Game of Thrones, who will be playing the role of Nivellen. Given his work on Game of Thrones and for playing a fan favorite character on the series, it’s not a huge surprise that The Witcher would bring on a familiar face from the most popular fantasy series of the last decade. This isn’t the first time, however, as actor Vladimir Furdik (who played the Night King on Game of Thrones) was the fight choreographer for the first season of the show.
Alongside Hivju, the additional new cast members all come from various backgrounds in the film and TV industries, such as Paul Bullion from Peaky Blinders, Thue Ersete Rasmussen from the upcoming Fast 9, Aisha Fabienne Ross from The Danish Girl, and more.
One of the most curious omissions from the new cast announcements, however, is that the new roster of actors and characters doesn’t include Vesemir, who is one of the most iconic characters from both the book series and CD Projekt Red’s games. While it hasn’t been confirmed just yet whether Vesemir will actually appear in the second season, it’s a pretty safe assumption that he’ll eventually make his way into the Continent and the story of Geralt of Rivia. One of the longest-standing rumors has been that Mark Hamill has been offered the role of Vesemir for the second season, and while that’s unconfirmed at this time, presumably the series would want to bring on an esteemed, well-known actor to play the role and drive anticipation for the second season.
The first season of The Witcher series is available to stream right now on Netflix, with the series’ second season currently in production. At this time, Season 2 is expected to potentially debut sometime in 2021.

i feel like vilgefortz’s stars reflected in a pond thing is so quoted (outside of like wanting to sound deep & other reasons you listed bc you’re right) bc it’s repeated in the text like ten times to the point that even if i didn’t want to kill vilgefortz in a violent manner for way more important reasons id probably want to strangle him just for saying it SO MANY TIMES alone. like “if he says it so much it must mean something/be Deep” logic.
thats true. just because a phrase is repeated a lot of times doesn’t mean its deep, it’s its context and connection to the central themes that gives it meaning! repetition is something i’d say is key in the style of how the witcher is written... honestly, i appreciate sapkowski’s use of repetition as a literary device in the witcher, but he went overboard with it at times.
sometimes it’s very enjoyable: both in really iconic moments/overarching motifs like (”something ends, something begins” (throughout the story), “baptism of fire” (throughout the book), “floating, floating, floating...” (vereena’s death in a grain of truth), “it was humid. hot.” (yennefer and ciri’s relationship development in blood of elves), “something more/something more is needed” (throughout the story)), and also when characters do this thing i call “playing catch,” when one of them says a specific metaphorical or otherwise interesting phrase, and then the other will throw it back to them in their response (geralt and chireadan speaking about “a scorpion,” vilgefortz and geralt in time of contempt, geralt and dandelion with “famous witcher” and “famous poet” in edge of the world ... these are just a few examples because i don’t have time to thumb through the books right now :/ but there are more in there!)
but sometimes it gets annoying. i think my annoyance is partially due to being an audiobooks listener (because reading something a bunch of times is different than sitting through it being said, slowly, a bunch of times) ... particularly, the amount of “contempts” in time of contempt seemed a bit much... there only needed to be a few contempts peppered in there (like he did with baptism of fire! the priest at the fugitive camp says it, regis says it, the narration on the bridge says it...), and also in tos when ciri is in the pereplut swamps. “if someone had been in the swamps and looked in through the window of the cabin, they would have seen a girl...” WITH ASHEN HAIR AND A SCAR TOO HORRID FOR HER WIDE GREEN EYES AND A CHILDLIKE FACE AND AN OLD TOMCAT ... WE GET IT... i get it... ciri is traumatized, i get it...
it helps there be a consistent theme (it reminds me of how you are supposed to tie back to your thesis in an academic paper) but , going back to vilgefortz, i think this is an example of where it becomes less strong and more annoying. i think vilgefortz came off as kind of a weak character anyways so this annoyingness doesn’t precisely help his case lol
