im gonna yell at u but u also brought this on

......OKAY SO, i swear to god this is the most self indulgent shit but I gotta give a teensy bit of context first.

Surkie goes into enw as effectively a drk+rpr since rpr for her is more of an augment onto her preexisting classes? She doesn't use a rpr jobstone nor does she have a proper avatar, as she kind of just got dragged to Drusilla after she summoned a voidsent into her. That voidsent was Diarmuid Ua Duibhne, something she'd actively researched and sought out due to his supposed status as one of the very first voidsent who might have sympathy to her plight to restore the void with Cylva.

This is Diarmuid, btw:

His size is very fluid and he just kinda hangs out in Surkie's head. He's got a more humanoid form that looks like a devil trigger out of DMC and remembers what he used to look like as a mortal, but that's not something he ever shows to anyone.

Reaper is a compromise between him and Surkie due to their vastly different fighting styles (her being a drk main, him...well when he was alive he often used a sword and a spear in tandem with each other and had two sets so 4 weapons in total, the tails kinda echo back to that). So while Surkie is still dominantly a drk, stuff involving Diarmuid involves summoned scythes and whatnot since them learning something together was better than trying to find a balance between existing styles.

This is all to say that at the end of enw, in order to keep her alive, Diarmuid ends up partly fusing with Surkie to get her back to the Ragnarok, and they're kinda stuck together now. She's half voidsent now, it's fucked her up fundamentally, he's stuck on the Source, and now Surkie has a Devil Trigger.

Like. Seriously. It's in part designed after Diarmuid and his humanoid form, but also in part inspired by her dark knight glam from post stb-enw, which ends up getting destroyed - which is this set below, main piece being the Behemoth King top. Reason being is the Sin DT forms are based on suits of armor, with Dante's being more european armor while Vergil's is clearly samurai armor.

She lost this armor set at the end of ENW after it kind of became her identity. It got worn down from how she channels aether - which she wasn't even aware of doing, but it was what in part destroyed her first and favorite spear, nearly destroyed her Captain's naginata, and then decimated her armor. Granted, what dealt the final blow was the fight against Zenos, but her aether warped the plate so heavily that it was unsalvageable. It's what ends up leading to her post enw look with the Troian gear, which was tailored specifically to her insane and uncontrollable aether.

But this also means it's easy for her to suddenly swap into that voidsent form/DT.

She gets a hang of slipping in and out of it and she winds up fighting MOST OF THE 6.X BOSSES ON HER OWN. Initially it was just because I'm Fucking Gay and I wanted her and Barbariccia to go one on one (*COUGHS*), but then it led into her being the only one to take on Rubicante, and then ofc it just fit to have her go after Golbez on her own. As that DT. Rest of the team joins her for Zeromus, but regardless she still just went stupid crazy DT form against these guys and walked out of it alive.

..............................................................................and this form is also responsible for an uh. Incident. that results in their fifth child, Tseren, whose bio parents are surkie and ysayle.

and they don't learn about this until the Rubicante fight where Ysayle was going to get involved in the fight, but he refused to fight her on the grounds of her. yknow.

No numbers? Just the entire thing? Well then -cracks knuckles-

1. Who is the most affectionate? Is there any question that it’s Aether? Vergil is the emotionally constipated one of the two of them and a lot of the affection between the two of them is rather quiet and soft.

2. Big spoon/Little spoon? Vergil’s the big spoon of course uvu/

3. Most common argument? Safety. Both of them are constantly going out into danger. In fact, their big fight started with safety as well, and Aether is almost constantly on the ball to lecture Vergil about an injury that was obtained by stupidity. Sometimes, Aether needs to get lectured too.

4. Favorite non-sexual activity? Bathing and washing each other’s hair. Vergil is high maintenence with his bodily cares and has this ritual that goes with his hair which makes it glossy and soft and it was extended to Aether to take care of his appearance more. Ever since they started, Aether’s got this constant glow to his skin and hair and you can tell when V’s been away for too long because Aether won’t do it for himself.

5. Who is most likely to carry the other? =v= Vergil.

6. What is their favorite feature of their partner’s? Aether has always been drawn to Vergil’s handsome amber eyes, even when they first met when Vergil caught Aether out of a tree.

7. What’s the first thing that changes when they realize they have feelings for the other? When Aether realized he had feelings for Vergil, Aether had already been the Vigil’s Keep Consulting Healer for two years and had known Vergil for just shy of five. He tried acting like everything was normal, and succeeded for the most part, but he made adjustments to his traveling time away from Vigil’s Keep so it would exist more regularly and evenly spaced apart. He would spend three months at the Keep, three months away from the Keep, lather, rinse, repeat, for two years until he was adopted by the Lavellan clan and had to adjust it again to five months, allowing him a month of traveling each way. He thought the distance would help keep his feelings under wraps but as the saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

8. Nicknames? & if so, how did they originate? Aether usually avoided nicknames with Vergil, but occasionally he would call him a raven. It wasn’t until a couple weeks before the Exalted Council for Aether to call Vergil ‘ma vhenan’. My Heart.

9. Who worries the most? Hehehe was that a serious question? They both worry about each other a lot but it’s hands down Aether who worries more. He worries about everyone, and everything. It’s hard to make him relax.

10. Who remembers what the other one always orders at a restaurant? They both are pretty good at this.

11. Who tops? Vergil. Aether has topped on occasion but prefers it when his Warden does.

12. Who initiates kisses? Both of them but Aether’s happen more frequently.

13. Who reaches for the other’s hand first? Aether’s more prone to initiating non-sexual touch so there you go.

14. Who kisses the hardest? Despite Aether being the pyro, Vergil’s the one who kisses with fire and passion. =v=

15. Who wakes up first? Aether usually wakes up with the sun and always has his bed in a position where sunlight can fall on his face in the morning, but Vergil wakes up first more often, usually stemmed from a slight sound or shift.

16. Who wants to stay in bed just a little longer? Surprisingly? Vergil. Aether’s a busy body and is used to being up and about almost immediately, at least until his depression strikes and then he doesn’t want to leave his bed at all.

17. Who says I love you first? Aether. It took a while after they finally became official (after 10 years of being an on again off again thing) before they were one day lounging together on Aether’s sofa in Skyhold before Aether just out and said it.

18. Who leaves little notes in the other’s one lunch? (Bonus: what does it usually say?) Hehehehe, Aether, cuz he’s a mom like that. It’s usually found in the pack of potions he sends with Vergil when Vergil is traveling, and usually is just a message to be careful and come back safely.

19. Who tells their family/friends about their relationship first? After they became official or after they became a regular on again off again thing? Neither really told, but it’s pretty obvious that Vergil’s people knew first that Aether and Vergil had a thing going. Even when they became official, they didn’t really tell. It was just… kinda obvious that it simply was.

20. What do their family/friends think of their relationship? No one really thought much of their relationship in the beginning since it seemed to be almost exclusively sex and general companionship with no real strings attached. When Vergil came to Skyhold though, it was rather apparent to Aether’s inner circle that Aether had feelings for Vergil. There were some thoughts that the one-sided feelings were unhealthy but after Vergil became Aether’s saving grace from depression and it turned out the feelings were mutual, no one really had a bad thing to say about it. Aether’s good for Vergil. And Vergil might be rough around the edges but he does care about Aether too.

21. Who is more likely to start dancing with the other? Aether’s the dancer of the two, and when they are alone and Aether’s feeling a little playful, he’ll ask Vergil to dance.

22. Who cooks more/who is better at cooking? Aether’s the cook. Dalish know all sorts of recipes and can make good food with almost anything they can find.

23. Who comes up with cheesy pick up lines? Aether’s not good with pick up lines so probably him.

24. Who whispers inappropriate things in the other’s ear during inappropriate times? I’m pretty sure I have at least two 'ask me’s that answer this question. It’s totally Vergil.

25. Who needs more assurance? Aether’s the more emotionally needy one, especially after they recover from the break up.

28. What do they do when they’re away from each other? They go about their duties as they do even when they are together, but they think about each other often and try not to miss each other too much. They write frequently now.

29. one headcanon about this OTP that breaks your heart In any of our AU’s, its very easy for Aether and Vergil to have a bad ending. One misstep can end up in Aether in a bad case of depression and disappearing for good and Vergil going back to being cold as stone.

Part 1

He stopped eating eight days ago.

It was an ugly feeling, but it was really the only thing he had control over.

He couldn’t deny that this place was nice, that the living corals and seaweeds that decorated his little home were a comforting reminder of home, but that was as far as the comfort went. The sand was not deep enough to sweep a nest where he could lay his weary head to rest before he found cold glass, and every fixture and rock was, well, fixed in place. Impossible to move and reorganize the space to sooth his own anxiety.

He never thought he would have missed the restaurant that he had been at before, where the sand was deep enough to hide filters and a heater in one spot that was so wonderful to sleep over. The coral and kelp had been fake though and the patrons occasionally tapped the glass but at least…

At least it was only ever quiet when all the lights had been turned out and every human left.

But for the last twelve days, all he ever heard was the quiet hum and buzz of the filters in the loneliness of this place, made all the more lonely by the man who bought him.

The man hardly lingered in the room for more than a few minutes in the mornings, and in the evening it would be a couple long hours filled with silence, the man pouring himself a glass of something fine and settling on one of the seats in the fast room where he would watch his captive until he retreated for the night.

There was a woman who came during the day, who cleaned and kept everything neat, but she never said anything other than ‘smile, fish-face,“ while she took photos with her phone. And there was a man who would cook for the man, who would drop food into his tank and sit and watch and wait for him to take it and eat or not.

That man he happily disappointed for the last eight days.

It was getting harder to ignore the hunger though, every time food was dropped into the tank, but this was his protest, and unless something changed, he would continue this protest or die in the process of it.

The soft sound of the door opening and then shutting alerted him to the man’s return, and he spared the man a glance before settling himself back down on the bottom of the tank, staring out the window at the city so far below.

Sometimes he would close his eyes but all he would see is the ocean that he had been stolen from and feel the longing ache in his chest.

The pop of a cork and the sound of the cushion compressing, and it was just another silent day in that apartment with the man who owned him staring and the mer who was owned willing himself to die.

"My assistant made a suggestion,” he heard the man say, and his ears pricked, slowly lifting his head to look at him, amber eyes boring into his own steady green, “that I should talk to you. 'To try to lift your spirit’, she said. We shall see if it’ll work. If not, there will be other steps taken.”

His protest had been noted, and with displeasure, the man had been given advice on how to deal with it. For the man to quench the silence that was slowly killing him with loneliness, and finally speak.

To him.

In silence, the mer listened as the man spoke, giving vastly unimportant details of his business and the office that he ran, examples and the buffoonish people who he had to deal with that day.

There was one moment where his pause in speech was greater than usual, where a tiny flicker of emotion crossed the man’s fair features and his eyes settled more upon him, but he didn’t stop speaking, unknowing to the cause that in his rapture at the interaction, the mer had crept from his nesting spot to stare with his nose almost touching the glass.

It was food for the starving mouth.

He nearly bolted upright the next morning when the man came out of the room that he would always stay the night in, and saw him looking right at him, amusement on his face.

He was fastening a length of handsome fabric around his own throat, like he always did before he left for the day.

And the man spoke.

“Good morning,” he greeted.

And a faint smile rose to the mer’s lips, an unconscious gesture being made in return of presented palms, and if he knew the look of hopefulness on his own face, he might have scolded himself but he was so starved with the desire for that socialization that he didn’t care.

The man grumbled something about the day and about a contract, and then he started to approach and unconsciously, the mer slipped through the strands of kelp that grew, drawing close as the man gently put his hand to the glass.It was a thoughtful expression on his face, and in that moment, Aether decided one thing.

That day, his starved protest would come to an end.

Back to the Basics: (E) Six months since the birth of Nero’s twins and Vergil’s near-death experience, he decides (with a rather unsubtle push from Dante) to try and cheer his wife up with a romantic night together. But six months is a long time to be apart, and Vergil quickly realizes that even he has more to learn. For he’s forgotten the true depth of their rather supernatural relationship, along with the relief (and pleasure) it can bring for them both; but only if he’ll let it.

Never Alone: (G) The darkness of his past never really left him, no matter how far he goes or how little he remembers it. The nightmares are always there, threatening in the weakest moments of his life to tear Vergil apart. But there are those who will never let him fall.

Dastardly Red Fiend: (G) On the fourth birthday of his grandchildren, Vergil finds himself roped into a costume party against his will. And between that, Dante’s schemes, and the dozens of kids driven to sugar madness, his chances of making it through the night (sane) are slim to none. Reminisce: (G) Vergil’s grandchildren may sometimes be a hassle, but he’s determined to never let them down. Sometimes, though, he wonders how life may have been if he’d been there for his own son from the beginning.

Divergence: (M) When Dante forces Vergil to join him on a road trip of a mission for Vergil’s anniversary, Dante doesn’t expect to find an old partner of his own. Unfortunately, Lucia does not seem to be the same woman she once was, and its up to Dante to learn why before its too late. Meanwhile, Vergil and Ashira are caught in the mysterious deaths of Reavers by a demon only known as the Shade, targetting those who escaped the Underworld. And as things take a turn for the worse, Vergil realizes that this new threat may jeopardize everything he’s built for himself and his family, even if they do defeat it without losing one of their own.

Inheritance: (G) Nero has a rather simple question for his father. What he gets out of it is unexpected, but not unwelcome. After all, it’s never too late to figure things out between them.

Rekindle: In which Vergil learns how to drive and Dante seeks Vergil’s help on matters of the heart.

Intoxication: In which Dante gets his entire family drunk.

Purr-plexed: In which Dante is turned into a cat and his family has to fix it.

Alpha and Omega:  After Vergil invites his family to the Underworld, he expects quality time on his side of the universe. But when his wife is struck by nightmarish visions, a mysterious power separates the family into various worlds, each one doomed to fade away. Only by finding the secret behind the "Perfect Paradox" can Vergil save his family. But the sacrifice needed to do so may be too much to bear, especially when he learns that his own ending may have been manipulated from the start.

The Pokemon universe AU by the way, not the DmC one. 

I expanded upon that one idea re: Mundus controlling legendary Pokemon and the whole Team Galactic thing. He may have very much to do with Team Galactic, even working alongside Cyrus to get what he wants out of them. He’d play Cyrus like a fiddle, actually intending to use the Red Chain for his own plot. Maybe even attempting to summon Arceus to control it separately, independent. Sinnoh is where he makes his appearance, and of course it has to be the region Vergil’s from. Now let’s assume Vergil’s with Dante because a Pokemon adventure is double the fun with a friend. :U

The big thing here is that Mundus would have a recurring role, being the one antagonist that somehow flees his demise without fail. So if he’s thwarted in Sinnoh, he’s off hopping from region to region trying to get what he wants but these meddling kids keep ruining it all for him. From Sinnoh he’d go to Unova, wanting to capture Kyurem, Reshiram, and Zekrom with maybe the intention of fusing them all so that they may become the original single dragon of legend. Vergil and Dante pretty much pursue vague leads pointing to him (or they happen to be in the same place at the same time) across the globe. He’s stopped in Unova, too, and flees to Kalos where he works closely with Team Flare, using them as cover and of course playing them all like fiddles, helping Lysandre but really just helping himself. I forget the deets but the plot of X/Y was something about creating a world based on beauty...? Powering up an ancient weapon and. shit. Definitely gotta take control of Yveltal though that’s a given. But even then, the twins put the brakes on his ambitions (this time with the help of Xerneas pls help me) and send him fleeing to... heck maybe Alola. And he’d definitely join up with the Aether Foundation to take advantage of them. Fucking Lusamine would love him and welcome him into Ultra Space but wait until he betrays her lmao quite probably stealing the Ultra Beasts and manipulating them, including Ultra Wormholes. 

Brah he would totally manipulate all three Type: Null (before Gladion runs off with one), meaning to use them against any opposition. So, Vergil and Dante, basically. They’re always a problem. Them, and the island guardians as well. He’d want to kill them all, in essence. :^I And he’d use the Ultra Beasts and the Type: Null to do it.

But, my dude, can you imagine the boys in Alola it’d be fucking hell for them and Vergil most of all omg. Dressing light, looking like Floridian tourists, pretty dissatisfied with the whole summery island vibe. However he’d purely accidentally come into an Alolan Pokedex which his Rotom zips right into and it’d be fucking cute. The first time a Pokemon (sort of??) talks to him in a human language. It booting up for the first time and calling him its user and being very proud about its being the smartest Pokedex ever and scanning legendary Pokemon OOPS. But yeah, and if he’d ever need it for anything outside of ‘dexing, it can pop out of the Pokedex any time. It’d be amazing. This whole fucking thing would be amazing. They’d get to take care of Cosmog (THEY BETTER CALL IT NEBBY), help it evolve into either Solgaleo or Lunala.

22. From the outside looking in, what is their dynamic like?

The outsider wouldn’t put these two together, because they’re the opposites - one is warm like the sun, and the other is cold like the moon. Their goals seem to be different as well, their personalities seem to clash more than connect. There’s a distance in Vergil, where there’s kindness in Aether. They shouldn’t work. Like fire, like ice, they don’t match.

But a perceptive outsider would notice the subtle care in words, in touch, in action. They’re more softer, caring and true with each other. Sharing interests, passion, burdens - it builds a relationship.

There’s silent trust and communication without words.

Fire melts ice and ice soothes fire.

C = Cuddling (Do they cuddle? If they do, how and when do they cuddle?)

Vergil doesn’t cuddle. He embraces his partner when he feels like it. During the day it’s a rare occurrence, but when he’s in bed with them and on a verge of sleep or sleeping? They’d have a hard time to get away from his arms and not wake him up.

D = Dream (What do they dream of doing with their s/o?)

Having their first cup of tea/coffee together after they get up from their bed, sharing space quietly or talking. Unguarded and softer.

I = Intimacy (How romantic are they? Do they have problems with intimacy?)

Romantic gestures are a mystery to him as he isn’t one that believes in love being an emotion free of flaws, like some stories or people like to claim. He learns what true intimacy is, the one that isn’t just the passionate clash of bodies in chase of a release. Given the chance and time to understand his own feelings, Vergil overcomes most of his problems with finding a meaningful connection with his partner.

M = Marriage (Do they want to get married? If so, what kind of ceremony?)

Not really. He hasn’t thought about getting married, first because he’s never been in a serious enough relationship, second because mages don’t get married (not under the Chantry anyway). If the subject of marriage would be brought up by his partner, he’d start thinking about it, but still wouldn’t be sure if it’s something he wants to do.

T = Trust (How much do they trust their s/o?)

Enough to give them the means to truly hurt him if they choose so.

Y = Yuck (Do they have any pet peeves about their s/o? Are there any habits that might bother their s/o?)

Forgetting to eat/drink. He understands the passion for research, but please don’t forget to feed yourself. Finding them passed out in strange places because they had to write one more thing or read something in one more book - he doesn’t know how to take care of someone with a cold, please don’t test him like that.

The window is open and small breeze ruffles the gauzes, twisted on beams of their four poster bed, both of them sitting on it.

Working in silence.

Vergil frowns slightly at the contents of letter in his hand, shifting to curl up one of his legs. He leans his right shoulder on the bed’s poster, trying to decipher what the author of this exceptionally thick letter had in mind. He rubs at his eyes when they water a bit after a yawn he barely managed to keep in, but continues to read, even if he feels a shadow of a headache looming at the back of his head. He shouldn’t take work to bed, he knows this. And usually, he never does, but today’s an exception and he knows Aether understands, busy with writing in his own journal.

Aether just shook his head with a soft smile when both of them stepped out fresh and clean from the bathroom and Vergil looked at the untouched pile of papers on his desk. 

Definitely a new one, because he could swear he did that one already, and new stack materialized from thin air, just as both of them were done with their shared bath. Aether silently brushed his fingers at Vergil’s wrist and went to grab his notebook, sitting among pillows with his back to the headboard, knees up to rest the opened journal.

Strands of his messily pinned up hair keep getting in Vergil’s eyes and he absently brushes them behind his ear, eyes narrowed, corners of his mouth turned down. Vergil blinks again when his sight seems to blurry and he can’t stifle another yawn and rolls his shoulders, sleeping shirt slipping a bit on his left and he briefly makes a face when the material sticks to the scarred skin, soaking bits of numbing cream Aether applied on it earlier.

With utmost care, unhurriedly and precisely.

Vergil let him take his time, idly watching him work, feeling the constant itch changing into simple pressure of his touch, when his fingers carefully spreaded herb smelling balm. Aether’s own recipe, one that he perfected over the years and one that actually worked. It didn’t irritate the skin further or made the numbness turn into the feeling of wooden limb. For that, Vergil was grateful. He’s used to the constant pull and prickle of skin with every move, the scars long healed, both bumpy and smooth, but still a tender reminder of rushed, makeshift spell. At least he still can use the arm and his hand fairly normal, with very minimal setbacks.

Vergil is so immersed in his reading, that he stiffens when the bed dips behind him, but then relaxes instantly as subtle smell of Aether’s bathing powder hits his nose. He drapes himself slowly at Vergil’s back, arms wrapping around his middle, leaning forward to plant delicate, lingering kiss on the fabric over his left shoulder. Aether tilts his head, nuzzling briefly into Vergil’s neck, lips pressed for a moment to his throat, before he rests his chin on Vergil’s shoulder, sighing briefly. The arms around Vergil tighten when he leans back into Aether’s embrace, gently bumping his cheek with Aether’s temple.

“I’ll be finished in a minute,” he murmurs, lips brushing Aether’s brow and he can feel Aether’s soft hum, his chest snugly pressed to his back.

2. What was the first moment that they knew they were in love with their LI?

After all this years he still shies away from using the word love, a hidden part of him still believing that to allow himself to feel it is to be cursed and ripped away from the one he cherishes the most. He cares, so deeply, it's frightening but also... strengthening? That he has someone he can share his thoughts and doubts? It was one of the moments like this, when Vergil was in middle of some research and he thought of how Aether would appreciate a discussion over the topic Vergil was studying, how he'd enrich the conversation with his own ideas and Vergil could almost see how Aether would look like then, rich emerald eyes sparkling, freckled face a bit flushed with emotion, how he'd gesticulate, how his voice would sound and Vergil's nearly overwhelmed with a sudden wave of longing that he nearly stops breathing. When he realizes he's really missing his company right then, longs for it so much it hurts, it's it. He's fallen deep.

8. What are their most prominent memories of each other?

Green eyes look up and meet his own gaze, Vergil's hands secure around waist of the stranger. He feels fingers on his shoulders curling into his clothes, almost like seeking a proper hold, when slightly flushed face is so close to his own. If he'd lean in just a bit more, he could brush his lips over the invinting slightly open mouth of the beautiful elf. The corners of his lips stretch up, and the look of the stranger in his arms is startled and confused for a moment, then the colour of his face changes to even deeper red, the heat of his body pressed so intimately to his own, and then Vergil's telling the words that leave him in the cold when the stranger, the healer fallen from the tree, steps back and huffs in annoyance, eyes wary and proud. He steps back as well, realizing his mistake with fake smile on his face, admiring the man from the distance.

The doors clicked softly after him. He didn’t bother taking off his shoes yet, focusing on maneuvering the grocery bags in his hands and turning on the lights in the hall. Aether probably was in his study, as he preferred working at nights. Vergil got tangled in his own work until late today, but he stopped at the store to buy ingredients for dinner. He hoped to convince Aether to cook him his favourite dish and he even found a bottle of nice white wine in a reasonable price.

"I’m home!" He announced, as he walked into the open living area. Nothing seemed out of place, lights left on as they often were at this time of the day, until a sound of something tearing and a thud of hurried footsteps could be heard.

"I bought some-" Vergil hadn’t had the time to register what exactly made him painfully collide with the nearby wall, plastic bags slipping from his fingers, its contents spilling, glass wine bottle crashing on the hard floor. He was out of breath and something was crushing his throat. The hit to his head brought the throbbing ache, spreading rapidly from the back of his skull. He heard some noises, a growl close to one of a beast, and felt how cold iron fingers were turning his head to the side, ripping his shirt at its collar, holding his shoulder in vice grip. And the breath of someone near the skin of his throat, something sharp pricking at his clothes and at his flesh too, and another blur later his attacker was off him, hurled into the wall on the far end of the room.

Denting it with their body and making a mess of the furniture they fell on.

As soon as he's free Vergil started coughing violently, his hand coming up to his throat and he caught a sight of Aether’s face for a second before the man turned and slammed into the one who just a second ago was sprawled on the floor on the other end of the room.

Aether’s eyes were… different. A sudden chill went down Vergil's spine.

He had no idea what was happening, the chaos of a fight before him, snarls and punches and… were these claws drawing blood? Vergil felt his heart hammering in his chest so quickly it hurt, his hands trembling at the view before him. Some kind of primal instinct was telling him not to move, to avoid getting attention on his person. So he just looked with wide eyes, throat dry and hurting, watching how Aether locked the attacker in a chokehold and waited until the body stopped clawing at his arms, trashing wildly. The noises stopped and the only sounds Vergil could hear were the thunder of his heart and quick breathing.

"Vergil." He didn't react, staring at the limp man in Aether's secure hold. The unconscious man's teeth were something he ever saw in horror movies, sharp long fangs-

"Vergil, look at me." Aether's voice was muffled as he called at him. He glanced at his partner, Aether's face bloodstained thanks to cut on his brow and blood dripping from his nose. His teeth, they were elongated too and Vergil felt his breath hitch as he took an involuntarily step back, just when Aether snarled at the man moving in his hold, obviously regaining his consciousness.

"Just- Vergil, please," Vergil looked straight into the pleading eyes, "Wait here. I'll be back in a moment, just wait here." Vergil blinked as the familiar green eyes seemed to hold him in place, and it soothed his frayed nerves, making him swallow a 'No' waiting at the tip of his tongue and he nodded in 'Yes'. For a moment Aether's face was twisted with a grimace of disgust, just before he hauled himself and the man off the floor, looking at Vergil one last time with as whisper of 'Please stay' as he took him into the basement.

Vergil didn't move for a while, listening to any noises coming from other part of the house, but as he felt his legs were threatening to give up under him, he stumbled to the kitchen island, sitting heavily on the barstool and staring at the hands folded on the counter. He had no idea what should he be thinking off at the moment, so he tried to stop the shaking of his hands, calming down the breathing and wait. Aether- he promised he'd be back, and Vergil trusted him enough to do just that. Then he'd ask what is going on in here and decide what to do next.

❣️When did your OC first realise they were in love? How did they react to the realisation?

“I guess I came to feel a particular kind of fondness, bits of it appearing whenever I had the pleasure of being in his company. And, as soon as our shared time came to an end, I found myself slightly disappointed, though I completely understood the reasons for his departues. I often made sure to offer the best equipment for his journeys, and as the months went by, my thoughts started to wander around Aether's wellbeing.

It was always good to see him again and know, he'll be staying near. At least for few months.

I am aware I made a brilliant job of denying the growing care. I was sure I'm immune to this kind of 'feelings' and carried on as we once agreed. I made mistakes. I involuntarily hurt him by avoiding the subject we should be talking about much earlier and spare him, us, a lot of unnecessary misery.

Standing on the edge and having a chance of losing something precious for good is really eye opening.”

❣️ What kinds of gifts does your OC recieve from their partner(s)? What kinds of gifts do they give in return?

“Any gift from Aether is valuable, including Aether himself. He knows about my texts collection, as well as taste for a good drink. He doesn't fail to deliver, whenever he finds something interesting and what he's sure would catch my fancy and make a fine gift.

As for myself, beside our shared passion for written word and gifts in books, I like to wrap Aether in the best clothes, tailored especially for his lovely form.”

“I'll give the answer to a very similar question - what do I value the most about him? It should work as well.

His patience.

It's selfish of me, as this particular trait served me personally in few situations I won't elaborate on.

I can't really tell what he likes the most about my person, though I'm sure he doesn't terribly mind my charm and good looks.”

💖 What are some little subtle ways they show that they love each other?

“I make sure his needs are met, whenever I can help it. Be it material goods he has need of in his work, his everyday life in Vigil's Keep or our private time together.

I like to spoil him and grant his wishes. I still find it a pity, that he asks for anything so rarely.”

💗 Describe your OC’s partner(s) from their point of view! What do they really think about them?

“I thought it impossible for a person so kind to exist. It's a valuable trait, though it can so easily be used and twisted. I wish he'd be more careful with choosing who gets his time and attention, because he doesn't do things half-way. He invests himself fully and that is... worrying.

He's skilled in his crafts - archery and herbalism with potion making, are the abilities he's devoted most of his time, beside his most natural one, magic. He's hard working and still perfecting his talents, as Aether's perfectly aware of a saying that 'practice makes better'.”

🖤 Have they ever had a really bad argument where they almost broke up?

“Beside little arguments we usually made sure to clear up, before we parted ways, over the years?

Yes, there was this nasty one.

It turned to be a catastrophic misunderstanding and it took a lot from both of us.

It's shameful to say, but if not for a third party interference, we could end up split apart for good.”

“I'm always up to test who is the most skilled one in that department, though I believe in thorough, hands-on evaluation. Preferably in private settings, undisturbed and with both participants deeply invested in the research.”

The party was in full swing by midnight, people dancing, drinking and mingling, though few persistent individuals still sought out potential business partners.

The amount of alcohol consumed by most definitely helped some with making the first step and starting up conversations, the outcome of them not always ending as intended at the start of them.

Vergil had his share of dealings and polite pleasantries for the night, and now he was blisfully left alone, swiftly scanning the lively crowd for his partner.

“There you are.” The voice came from his left, relieved and slightly out of breath, and when he turned to glance at Aether, he was met with the sight of tired but smiling emerald eyes. Vergil closed the small distance to gently put an arm around Aether’s waist, bringing him even closer, tipping his face down to brush his lips on Aether’s hair in fleeting kiss. The subtle sign of affection had the other man stiffen a bit in surprise, though he relaxed quickly into Vergil’s hold, his own hand coming to rest on one of the ornament buckles of Vergil’s coat.

“A guest of the event and still as busy as a host.” Vergil’s breath tickled Aether’s ear. “I think you deserve a break, Inquisitor.” Aether felt himself shiver lightly at the lowly purred words, tilting his head up to look Vergil in the eye, a small mischievous smile matching the one of his partner’s. “And I’m sure you would have some suggestions for it?”

“Indeed, I would.” The grin Vergil gave him was as quick as impish, amber gaze so focused on Aether’s face, making him feel a bit warmer. He felt the blush creeping slowly on his cheeks, intensified by Vergil’s words, murmured straight to his ear. “I suggest we retire to our chambers, where you spend as long as it would be needed on your knees, giving me a total control of how to proceed, until I am done with you and both of us are satisfied with the results.”

Vergil’s fingers on Aether’s waist squeezed harder for a moment, before he leaned back to watch the effect of his offer. “Ah, that’s the delicious look I missed all evening.” He commented, admiring the visibly flushed face and slightly glazed gaze of his partner, lover, who collected himself quickly with a small cough and straighter back.

“I think we are done here.” There was a slight rasp in Aether’s usually melodious voice. “I got tired of the gathering. Shall we?” He gestured at the exit and Vergil deftly grasped his hand, leaving a swift kiss on his wrist, before he gracefully maneuvered Aether’s arm to interlock with his own.

“Excellent idea, my dear Inquisitor.”

Vergil x Aether (under the cut)

Both of them are magic users. So, discussions about theory & practice of magic are inevitable. And enjoyable.

They travel a lot. They met when Vergil was travelling with the party during Blight, then Aether was a frequent guest in Vigil's Keep, then it was normal to meet in some places (when both of them were on a road), then Aether became an Inquisitor and it meant planned meetings, and then they just traveled together, when they wanted to.

It started with a passionate affair. Stayed like that for long time. When it "settled", and became official, they were free to voice thoughts long unspoken.
