this pretty widdle blue flower would’ve been just another unknown volunteer plant, but since i was trying to find out how the heck to find the seeds on my veronicas, i came across a variety of veronica called “corn speedwell” (veronica arvensis) and darn if this isn’t it! i also learned that it is an antiscorbutic, used to treat scrofulous affections, and for healing whitlows and mitigating painful piles. then i had to look up what all that jibjab meant. antiscorbutic means it treats scurvy; scrofula is a disease with glandular swellings, probably a form of tuberculosis; whitlows are abscesses in the soft tissue near a fingernail or toenail; and piles are inflamed hemorrhoids. the more you know!
// I just bought a guide to the flowers of Catalunya that has the names in Catalan, Spanish, and English so I thought maybe they'd interest you guys and I decided to post them here!
Nom scientífic/scientific name - nom en català - nombre en español - name in English
Euphorbia characias - lleteresa - euforbia encarnada - large Mediterranean spurge
Euphorbia helioscopa - lleterola d’hort - lecheruela - madwoman’s milk
Euphorbia serrata - lleteresa serrada - asnaballo - serrate spurge
Some of these names are a bit more official (like in English a lot of times we’ll just call it “spurge” instead of the specific type of spurge), but hopefully this helps you get an idea for what to call these plants in one (or more!) of these languages.
Geranium himalayense (i think its the rozanne cultivar)
Potentilla porphyrantha
Veronica fruticans
They all grow in Vaqueiro territory except the geraniums and the potentilla bc the store wasnt selling any species that are in VT but the genuses (genae??) grow there. They all had to be little species bc im growing them in small pots. Hoping they grow okay inside bc they are all alpine plants. I don't really need them to last forever bc i want to collect their seeds. I can have exponential seeds but anagallis has at least six different color forms and the others have dif colors and i wanna see what i can get through selective breeding i love mendelian genetics
My parents have two big pots outside and im going to plant something local in them but germinate them inside. Idk what exactly yet except i am doing Monarda citriodora since its a native plant and i already have seeds i collected from the seed pods in the winter near my house.
Idk this is just my plant diary this is what ive been doing the past days
Another tiny speedwell, but unlike Thyme-leafed Speedwell (12 April) this one has hairy leaves. Found growing between the cracks in paving. The flowers are an intense blue. I think this is Wall Speedwell, though Wall Speedwell is described as growing erect. I will have to come back when it has fruits - Wall Speedwell has flat, heart-shaped fruits.
w moim odawarskim ogródku: Oxalis debilis Kunth subsp. corymbosa (DC.) O.Bolos et Vigo, jasnota różowa (Lamium amplexicaule) i przetacznik polny (Veronica arvensis).
in my garden in Odawara: Oxalis debilis Kunth subsp. corymbosa (DC.) O.Bolos et Vigo, henbit dead-nettle (Lamium amplexicaule) and wall speedwell (Veronica arvensis).
Woke up, had some breakfast and then watched @atheycreek live for Church this morning 🌄
Athey Creek Christian Fellowship is my absolute favorite when it comes to learning about the Bible. I struggled so much at understanding what I was reading, I struggled at finding a church where I feel like I'd fit in at and I believe God showed me their page because Pastor Brett Meador goes into so much detail and I can easily follow along and understand everything. I pray that one day I can go and listen to them in person. Check them out on YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram.
Also here's some Veronica arvensis, cute little blue flower that's growing in my backyard 💙
They usually get mowed down before I see them bloom. I've never noticed so much beauty in something so small, I just never payed attention but I've started looking closer at all things around me and noticing every detail that God himself has gone into when creating even the tiniest things. Every detail no matter how big or small, is beautiful in every way.
VERSE OF THE DAY ❤️
John 19:30
30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
I pray that everyone has a beautiful and blessed Sunday 🙌 ❤️
On day 361 of 365 Days Wild I spotted some new speedwell flowers growing in the grass outside work.
These are, I think, Corn Speedwell (Veronica arvensis). Their flowers are far smaller than those of Germander Speedwell, which are also growing nearby.
What flowers have you spotted recently? Let me know in the comments below.
Klein kruiskruid - Senecio vulgaris
Klein veld kers - Cardamine hirsuta
Grasmuur - Stellaria graminea
Liggende vetmuur - Sagina procumbens
Lekker bakken in de zon tegen de warme stenen.
Ik denk dat mijn moeder
Muursla - Mycelis muralis
Paarse Dovenetel - Lamium purpureum
Gewone reigersbek - Erodium cicutarium
Gehoornde klaverzuring - Oxalis corniculata
is daar grappig aan?
Kom we gaan.
He, daarom weet jij dus zoveel over plantjes
Kandelaartje - Saxifraga tridactylites
En dit?
Zachte ooievaarsbek - Geranium molle
Kleine ooievaarsbek - Geranium pusillum
Robertskruid - Geranium robertianum
Bij mijn oma in de tuin groeit
Winterpostelein - Claytonia perfoliata
Hondsdraf - Glechoma hederacea
Kleine varkenskers - Lepidium didymum
Smalle weegbree - Plantago lanceolata
Van de weegbree alleen ken ik 3 soorten
Smalle weegbree - Plantago lanceolata
Hertshoornweegbree - Plantago coronopus
Grote weegbree - Plantago major
Duizendblad - Achillea millefolium
Bergbasterdwederik - Epilobium montanum
Stinkende gouwe - Chelidonium majus
Canadese fijnstraal - Erigeron canadensis
Scherpe Fijnstraal - Erigeron acris
Vijfvingerkruid - Potentilla reptans
Speerdistel - Cirsium vulgare
Gewone melkdistel - Sonchus oleraceus
Akkermelkdistel - Sonchus asper
Glad vingergras - Digitaria ischaemum
Straatliefdegras - Eragrostis multicaulis
Can you kamille down a bit?
Schijfkamille - Matricaria discoidea
Gewoon biggenkruid - Hypochaeris radicata
Nederlanders be like, noem het gewoon biggenkruid
Wie bedenkt deze namen
Tuinwolfsmelk - Euphorbia peplus
Harig knopkruid - Galinsoga quadriradiata
Sommigen zijn nog best logisch
Kleefkruid - Galium aparine
is een beetje plakkerig
Zwarte nachtschade - Solanum nigrum
Heeft zwarte bessen en is giftig
maar dan zijn er weer anderen
Rode schijnspurrie - Spergularia rubra
Grote brandnetel - Urtica dioica
Netel, netelig, prikkelbaar, Ur tica dio ica
It’s St. Patrick’s Day, and Irish Eyes are smiling. St. Patrick’s Day is more than a day for green clothing, green beer, shamrocks, leprechauns, and pots of gold, although I wouldn’t mind having my own pot of gold right about now. This is a day to celebrate and learn about Irish culture, traditions, and history. By participating in the many celebrations and parades and enjoying the food, drinks, music, and dancing that define Irish culture, St. Patrick’s Day can be a day of fun and learning. As I kickoff the St. Patrick’s Day festivities, I thought it would be a good idea to share some of my favorite wildflowers that are native to Ireland.

The Flori Godmother
“May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day.
May song birds serenade you every step along of the way.
May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that’s always blue.
And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.”
Here are a few more species of speedwell (Veronica) that are common in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. Some of these are common weeds you find in the garden. The top photo is of Persian Speedwell (Veronica Persica) which is a non-native species. The second photo down is of Field Speedwell (Veronica Arvensis) which is another introduced species. The lower photos are of Thyme-Leaved Speedwell (Veronica Serpyllifolia) which includes two varieties. The pale-flowered variety is not native to this area, while the blue-flowered variety is native.
