Right, I think it's time for some positivity, and also a reality check (and I mean that in the most loving way possible) regarding the campaign to save OFMD. I've seen a lot of people saying 'it's been nearly a month, we should have been picked up by now', and whilst, yes, some cancelled shows have received very quick movement to other streamers, it's absolutely not the story for all of them. We've seen numerous shows follow different journeys from cancellation to pick-up, and there's no way of knowing what journey we might be going on.

Are we in the fast lane where we get picked up the next month (lookin' at you, Lucifer and The Expanse)? The middling lane where it takes months for a pick-up deal to be hashed out (lookin' at you, One Day At A Time, The Tourist, and Warrior)? The slow lane where we keep pushing for years and then eventually crowdfund a film (lookin' at you Veronica Mars)?

I think we have to consider the fact that OFMD being cancelled was a last minute thing that blindsided the cast and crew (and shocked people across the industry). So we're going into it in a different position to other shows that had maybe had a hint/suggestion that cancellation was coming before it happened. This is because if there are rumours of cancellation circling, it gives a chance for feelers to be put out to other networks/by other networks before the actual cancellation is confirmed. That didn't happen here. Which is important.

It's not just wham bam thank you ma'am and now you've been picked up by Netflix (or insert streamer of your choice). It's a negotiation. It's a process. It takes time. There is a very good reason that people heavily suspect that Brooklyn 99 had already been picked up before the cancellation was officially announced, and that the cancelled-to-new-home-in-24-hours thing was pretty much just a marketing stunt. No way was that all negotiated to the point of announcement within a day,

There are many reasons why any potential pick-up elsewhere might take a bit more time. For example, if David is (hopefully) juggling interest from multiple different networks, then that has to be hashed out and negotiated to make sure the best deal is reached for everyone. Also, OFMD is potentially a more complicated show to negotiate than we imagine: at a very basic level, it has a large ensemble (a large international ensemble), which would need to be discussed and negotiated, and it's filmed in New Zealand, which would need to be discussed and negotiated. That doesn't work against it in terms of 'it's more complicated, so it won't be picked up' but it could very well mean that the time needed to negotiate a pick-up is longer.

Remember: One Day At A Time had a much smaller cast (which wasn't an international cast) and it basically had one single studio set (being a sitcom), and that took three months to be saved.

I chatted with my friend, also a fan, who has worked in television production previously and is currently working as a screenwriter, and she confirmed just how much time, discussion and negotiation this stuff takes. She basically said: yep, this all takes time and this is very normal. And this is coming from someone who is very firmly in the 'I am refusing to get my hopes up because I can't bear to get hurt again' camp of trying to save the show.

On that note, I think it's important to address David's silence, because I've seen a few people panicking about that. There's a very good chance that if he is in negotiations right now (and I do not know if he is, he might not be!) then there would be a lot he wouldn't be able to talk about. And he knows that we dissect every single syllable of his posts, so posting anything would be risky. Negotiations are tricky things that involve juggling multiple balls (and torches and knives and chainsaws), and a lot of push-and-pull, back-and-forth, variables-upon-variables, and so going silent on social media would be absolutely what I would expect from him if that was happening.

It's eerie for us because we had a burst of activity from David, a lot of noise and a lot of confidence, and then...nothing. That's jarring, and anxiety-inducing. But I want us to think of it this way: David did a big post about being back in New York, about things looking up, and then he went uncharacteristically silent, which is what would happen if things were going on that he couldn't talk about. I have no idea what, if anything, might be going on, but it's important not to see this as a bad thing.

As someone on Twitter, who also works in the industry (they work as an actor) said the other day: in this business, no news is good news.

(also important to note: if he suddenly reappears on social media, that also doesn't mean that any negotiations have fallen through, and we should all panic; anything could be happening, and I know we're little anxiety gremlins - me included, bigly - but until we are definitively told that this is over and there's no hope, then it's not over and there is hope)

There's no way of knowing what is going on, or how long whatever is (or isn't) going on might take. This might be a sprint, but it could just as easily be a marathon. The show not being picked up immediately does not mean there is no hope, as we have seen with numerous other shows. Look at fandoms like Shadow and Bone, who are still fighting tooth and nail for their show because they refuse to give up on it. They haven't given up, and neither should we.

We need to decide if we love OFMD enough to fight for it long-term, to settle in for a long battle, and keep pushing for as long as it takes. And I think, as difficult as it might be, we all know that this show, and its cast and crew, is worth it.

General ideas:

Noah knows/learns spanish. Bonus points if Alejandro isn't aware until the perfect moment.

Alejandro thinks he can get away with flirting with Noah in spanish. Noah starts shit talking in spanish. Noah learns so he can hear all the little comments Alejandro keeps making under his breath. etc. so many possibilities.

Now that the show is over and Noah's off to college, he realizes he’s missing something in his life. Maybe it’s his friends, maybe it’s a lack of ever-looming danger, OR maybe it’s Alejandro. Who fucking knows. He’s too busy trying not to be in love with Alejandro to figure it out. 

Their group project is failing, horribly. There’s one thing Noah knows for certain: Alejandro's to blame. At what point does slippery eel turn into a term of endearment?

They have never ever fallen asleep next to each other. Let alone in each other's arms. Never.

Time loop where Alejandro is stuck on the episode where Noah gets voted out and sticks himself to falling in love because he can’t let go of his pride long enough to simply let Noah stay in the game and move on.

Noah loses his contacts and starts wearing his glasses more often. Alejandro notices. Everyone notices Alejandro notices.

Alejandro and Noah team up to get their friends together (insert whatever ship you like) and end up together in the process/the other two were trying to do the same thing for them.

A commentary timeline on how Alejandro's charisma turn into exploitation, how Noah's patience turned into indifference, and how they parallel each other. (I've written a few hundred words for this one lol.)

Each thinks the other doesn't like them. Cut to third party POV that watches and witnesses them completely a mess for each other.

Noah, once voted out in I See London, learns about Alejandro's family. Who have been very vocal since the show started airing.

Exploration of how Alejandro tries really really hard. Yes, He's at the top of the class, but so is Noah. Noah who sleeps through classes and doesn't turn in homework and shows up late or simply not at all and is still right up there with him.

"Do you know him?"

She can't be sure she's not just seeing things. It's late December; the outside of the bar is cast in hazy darkness and the faltering glow of rusty streetlights, whisps of cigarette smoke filtering out the entrance. It's the type of night that can lend itself to a certain fellowship of the imagination. Maya, her roommate, bristles next to her and it's not hard to see why: there's a man staring at them from across the parking lot, alone. He's been staring at them for a long time.

She's about to turn away, shake off the thought - but he raises a hand in acknowledgment, stilted, awkward; like he'd thought about waving then caught himself. Eleanor's heart actually skips a beat.

"... Can you wait in the car for me?"

"You're not serious, Elle. Who the fuck is that?"

"I promise it's fine. Give me ten minutes." She gives her friend's shoulders an affirmative squeeze, tries for a smile. "Listen, if I'm not back by then, feel free to get as Veronica Mars as you want on me, yeah?" One thing about Maya: she carries a taser with her everywhere.

The brunette blows out a breath through her teeth and shoots the man another wary look. Eventually, she cedes. "Alright, fine. Ten minutes or so help me God, I'm sic'ing the whole precinct on you. Be careful."

Eleanor watches her get into her Honda, an uneasy sense of anticipation beginning to take root in the pit of her stomach. Her feet begin to move of their own accord in his direction and all the while she's straining her vision through the dark and the smoke, trying to make him out beyond a shadow of a doubt, because the chances of it being him...

Seconds later she's bridged the gap and they're standing two feet away from each other. Her doubts evaporate into the frigid night air; her father looks exactly the same as when she'd last seen him, fifteen years ago. Hasn't aged a day.

They stare in complete silence, drinking in the sight of one another, tense, like they're each expecting the other to strike at a moment's notice. He's wearing a suit and there's a casual sort of elegance there in the way he carries himself, but she thinks he looks tired. Pale. Eyes bloodshot. The hand he'd held up earlier has a tremor and given their spotty family history she assumes he's been trying to keep the drinking -- or worse -- at bay for a while. There's other similarities there, one more striking than the others.

"You look like your mama."

"You look like Charles."

And it's so true it feels like a gut punch. Jacob Whitby's got practically all the same features as his late son just older, more worn. The spitting image of what could have been. Maybe he recognizes the weight of that because he has the decency to close his eyes for a moment, both hands burrowing into his pockets.

"The cops looked for you, you know," she says, crossing her arms against the chest. "Had a running theory for a while that you did it. Spurned ex-husband, deadbeat father... fits the bill."

His eyes are back on her, a storm of dark blue. "Is that right? That what you think, Ellie? You think I butchered my own family, then rode on in here to, what? To finish the job? Is that really what you think of me?"

"I don't think anything about you," she says coldly. "Not anymore. I don't know you. You're... you're a seven year old's memory and a... sixteen year old's pipe dream. That's all. I don't know why you're here. I just know you're too late in every way that's ever counted."

Her father groans, rakes a shaky hand through his blond hair roughly, like he might rip it out. "Jesus Christ, I didn't come here to fight, alright? I came here to..." he looks around, searching for the right words. Pulls up short. Eventually, he casts his gaze down at the ground, kicks at a stone. "... Are you okay? Are you happy?"

Something squeezes at her heart. There's a long forgotten impulse here, a call to a younger self that she doesn't wish to answer. The daddy's girl who'd follow him around his study all day and steal his glasses, smushing them onto her face with a wide grin, imploring him to look, look, daddy! until he scooped her up in arms and did a whirl around the room while she screamed. Towards the end he never did look. The door to the study would always be locked, her father sealed away.

"... I'm getting there," she admits quietly, resisting the urge to call him on the guilty conscience. There wasn't a point in making this any uglier than it had to be. He'd take off again soon, leave her holding the weight of all these memories. Of the family she'd buried, the one he'd wiped his hands clean of. Story as old as time. "I've got good people in my life. School helps too."

"Yeah? What are you studying?"

"Chemistry."

He looks suddenly alert at this, scrutinizing her; she has the distinctly uncharitable thought that he might have her pegged as some Walter White-esque gold mine, the long lost daughter that can cook him up some drugs. She tempers this judgement, clears her throat. "What have you been up to? And don't say it's complicated."

He smiles. It looks just as tired as the rest of him. "The only people who say that are the ones who can't sit with themselves. I've never had a problem with that. I know what I've done, what I haven't. Life's not complicated, Ellie, it's all just choices, over and over and over again. And it all comes back around, always, just not quite in the ways you'd expect it to." The smile dies, overtaken by shadows. "I made a choice, Ellie. And I chose wrong. That's all there is to it."

Eleanor doesn't know what to do with this. There's enough guilt in her to fill a colosseum, she doesn't want to shoulder his too. She's got nowhere to put it. So she looks at him again, a quiet appraisal, and she can see that the tremors are getting worse and her heart gives another lurch because she recognizes that shaking; she understands that look on his face, the thousand yard stare and the itch for enough liquor to drown in, because she knows what it's like to want to be anywhere else but here, to wish you'd been put in the ground a long time ago. She can't absolve him of anything, can't quite reach for him either, but she gives it a shot. "... You need help, dad. I work at this methadone clinic near campus. The staff there is really great and they can get you set up with all sorts of resources --"

"Remember that book I used to read to you when you were little?" he interrupts, looking right through her. "Something about these two rabbits trying to one up each other, measuring their love for one another. Remember that?"

She stares. The corner of her eyes are prickling and there's something tightening in her throat, but she can't look away. She feels small. "Yeah. Guess How Much I Love You."

"That's right. Guess How Much I Love You. You were obsessed with it, wouldn't go to sleep till I read it to you every night." He steps forward tentatively, slowly, and cups one of her cheeks, holds her gaze to his. Everything melts away and she's suddenly six years old again, looking up at her dad, waiting for him to finish the story. When he talks his voice is strained. "I love you all the way down the lane, as far as the river. I love you across the river and over the hills. I love you right up to the moon and back."

Then his eyes change. There's a hard, cold intensity in them now and she feels her mind clouding over as his grip on her tightens, hard and purposeful. "I want you to forget all of this, Ellie. It never happened. You never saw me. The one thing I want you to take from it is that you're going to keep at your studies, you're going to stay in science, never deviate. You're going to stay on that path and maybe... maybe one day we'll see each other again. Now, turn around. Go back to your friend. Enjoy your life."

Eleanor turns slowly on her heel, dazed, as her father's hand slips away from her. She walks and walks and walks, feeling like she's forgetting something. When she makes it to the parking lot she looks back over her shoulder, expectantly. There's no one there.

every time i read about it i’m like— this is just so crazy. i can’t imagine veronica mars not ending with loVe together (yeah, i know about logan but they sort of still end up with one another, ‘cause they were gonna spend their lives together and no one else was in the picture anymore). glad the writers went that way; can you imagine how wasted it would’ve been to not have them together at all?

Like one final mystery and a chance to better wrap up these characters and have them reunite (which was not the fault of the writers, but that of the CW bc I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been to have to completely rework season 4 during the middle of writing bc you found out you were getting cancelled). If Veronica Mars fans could do it, then I think Nancy Drew fans could rally together to do it (if people also want to see this).

what if when eddie takes his last breath in the upside down, he wakes up in 1983 right before the events of season 1 start. none of the older party has any clue about the upside down yet, dustin and mike are in freaking middle school, and eddie really doesn't know all the details of what took place in 83.

will going missing would be common knowledge, as well as barb. eddie knows that will was stuck in the upside down as it gets mentioned several times in season 4. so eddie knows it starts with will's disappearance.

i've got no clue of what the actual plot should be, but imagine a frantic eddie trying to help even though he really had no idea of where to start. he'd be desperate enough to try and talk to nancy and steve. maybe he'd crash the party to try and talk to them, thus saving barb from her fate. maybe he could run into eleven first, helping her hide from the lab.

of course, dustin believes eddie. nancy and barb do as well after they narrowly escape the demogorgon in the woods while investigating. mike and lucas are willing to believe him if it means saving will. maybe eleven can sense that he's telling the truth or that something happened to him.

the possibilities are endless, but i love the idea of eddie getting thrown back in time and he's immediately like trying to warn everyone about vecna because he'd very much like for no one to get their bones snapped this go around.

would anyone believe him? would he think he's gone crazy? knowing about vecna that much earlier would change so much.

imagine eddie accidentally becomes besties with barb and then nancy too, which is a trio that should be strange as hell but somehow works so well. they're a real paranormal veronica mars vibe.

by interrupting the party, not only does barb not get taken by the demogorgan, nancy and steve don't have sex. theirq relationship doesn't really go anywhere. jon never takes any inappropriate pictures. instead he gets caught snooping around steve's backyard after the party while looking for will. jonathon is visibly upset and frantic about will, which explains why he has the camera...he's trying to find any evidence of what happened.

steve already feeling bad about tommy and carol bullying jon, decides to help him search. they become best friends after steve drops his old friends in defense of jon. nancy and jon never fall in love either since she's busy with eddie and barb solving time travel related mysteries.

since eddie knows about the upside down, he distances himself from the corroded coffin guys. partly because he's busy trying to save the world and partly because he's terrified they'll get dragged into it. they're still friends but eddie spends most of his time with barb and nance, and by proxy steve and jonathan. steve is nothing like eddie expected and he falls fast. steve would be slower because he doesn't even realize he likes guys but he definitely falls harder. it has to be a dreadfully slow burn. like, first kiss post star court or mid vecna showdown slow.

the storyline would be similar in many ways but ultimately diverge pretty drastically as eddie continues to change the timeline.

everybody  hates  kirby's  mom  -  well  ,  everyone  in  red  creek  .  imagine  gale  weathers  at  the  beginning  of  the  first  scream  movie  except  more  fame  hungry  and  meaner  and  wearing  ugly  shoes  .  that  was  sinclaire  sloane  ,  one  of  the  many  reporters  that  tried  to  capitalize  on  the  murders  in  town  all  those  years  ago  .  she  had  a  connection  to  the  place  as  she  had  grown  up  there  and  returned  not  long  before  they  began  ,  after  she  had  gotten  pregnant  with  kirby  .  once  she  saw  a  chance  to  put  her  journalism  degree  to  use  ,  she  did  and  thus  ,  she  drew  the  ire  of  everyone  in  town  .

while  she  went  on  her  book  tour  ,  kirby  was  left  with  her  dad  ,  who  had  long  since  divorced  sinclaire  and  was  living  as  just  another  regular  citizen  .  he  worked  all  day  as  a  plumber  and  spent  his  nights  in  front  of  the  tv  ,  watching  sitcoms  and  drinking  beers  .  kirby  was  left  on  her  own  ,  for  the  most  part  .  she  liked  it  better  that  way  anyways  . 

the  murders  always  hung  over  kirby's  head  because  of  what  her  mom  did  for  a  living  .  once  everyone  stopped  caring  about  red  creek  ,  she  moved  onto  other  murders  in  other  small  towns  ,  while  kirby  actively  did  everything  in  her  power  to  avoid  even  thinking  about  the  events  .  she  didn't  even  watch  horror  movies  .

her  childhood  was  pretty  lonely  ,  she  learned  to  take  care  of  herself  quite  well  so  by  the  time  she  was  in  middle  school  ,  she  was  mostly  self  sufficient  .  she  washed  her  own  clothes  ,  cooked  her  own  food  ,  signed  her  own  permission  slips  ,  biked  to  and  from  school  until  she  turned  sixteen  and  taught  herself  how  to  drive  by  taking  her  dad's  car  out  on  the  road  late  at  night  .  then  ,  she  just  drove  her  mom's  long  abandoned  vw  cabrio  whenever  she  needed  .

when  she  got  into  college  and  left  town  to  move  to  california  ,  where  she  attended  ucla  and  studied  history  ,  kirby  finally  livened  up  a  bit  .  she  partied  with  her  newfound  friends  ,  went  to  the  beach  as  often  as  possible  ,  and  felt  like  she  was  actually  living  for  the  first  time  ever  ,  even  getting  herself  a  best  friend  .  she  even  dyed  her  hair  blonde  !

six  years  later  ,  a  tragedy  struck  kirby  (  it's  her  secret  shhhh  )  and  she  came  running  back  to  red  creek  .  it  was  the  only  other  place  she  knew  to  go  .  her  dad  had  moved  away  six  months  prior  and  her  mom  was  doing  some  fuck  ass  podcast  and  she  needed  somewhere  to  be  so  kirby  settled  in  a  tiny  apartment  above  a  store  in  town  ,  getting  a  job  at  town  hall  and  trying  to  convince  herself  that  it  would  only  be  temporary  -  that  was  two  years  ago  . 

now  she's  just  praying  that  her  mom  doesn't  try  to  come  back  to  town  …  oh  and  that  no  one  else  gets  hurt  ,  of  course  .

Heroes AU where Kristen Bell was contracted for more than 13 episodes and we got Elle becoming a reluctant protagonist in Fugitives and Redemption.

Because it is 18 years later and I still have never seen a show more transparently kill a character solely because the actor's contract was up. Come on. Kristen Bell fresh off Veronica Mars?? They could have capitalized on that more than they did.

Like… imagine Elle just taking the piss out of Samuel's whole schtick OR being one of the first to figure out why he keeps so many Evolved Humans around him.
