Cat Essential Cat Vaccines: The Vaccine Doses and Schedule
Vaccination is a vital part of being a responsible cat owner. Not only do vaccines shield your feline companion from potentially life-threatening diseases, but they also help prevent the spread of these illnesses to other pets and, in some cases, even humans. Understanding the essential vaccines, the recommended doses, and the proper schedule is key to keeping your cat healthy throughout its life. Before you search for cat vaccination near me take a moment to read this blog to learn about the essential vaccines, their doses, and the vaccination schedule every cat owner should follow.
Tumblr media
Why Are Cat Vaccines Important?
Vaccines stimulate your cat’s immune system to recognize and fight specific viruses and bacteria. By vaccinating your cat, you’re providing them with the best defense against diseases that could otherwise be life-threatening. These vaccines are particularly important for kittens, whose developing immune systems are more vulnerable to infections.
Core vs. Non-Core Vaccines
Cat vaccines are typically divided into two categories: core and non-core vaccines.
Core Vaccines: These are essential for all cats, regardless of their lifestyle, as they protect against widespread and severe diseases.
Non-Core Vaccines: These are recommended based on the cat’s lifestyle, environment, and risk factors.
Core Vaccines for Cats
Feline Panleukopenia (FPV)
What It Is: Also known as feline distemper, this highly contagious viral disease affects the cat’s immune system and can be fatal.
Vaccine Dose and Schedule: Kittens should receive their first dose at 6–8 weeks of age, followed by booster shots every 3–4 weeks until they are 16–20 weeks old. An annual booster is recommended thereafter.
2. Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1)
What It Is: This virus causes feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR), an upper respiratory infection.
Vaccine Dose and Schedule: The initial dose is given at 6–8 weeks, with follow-up shots every 3–4 weeks until the kitten is 16–20 weeks old. An annual booster is suggested.
3. Feline Calicivirus (FCV)
What It Is: Another virus responsible for upper respiratory infections, FCV can also cause oral ulcers.
Vaccine Dose and Schedule: Similar to the FHV-1 vaccine, the first dose is administered at 6–8 weeks, followed by boosters until 16–20 weeks of age. Annual boosters are recommended.
4. Rabies
What It Is: A fatal virus that can affect all mammals, including humans. It’s transmitted through saliva from bites.
Vaccine Dose and Schedule: The rabies vaccine is usually given once at 12–16 weeks of age, with a booster shot one year later. Depending on the type of vaccine, subsequent boosters may be required annually or every three years.
Non-Core Vaccines for Cats
Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV)
What It Is: FeLV is a virus that affects the immune system and can lead to cancer and other serious health problems.
Vaccine Dose and Schedule: The FeLV vaccine is typically recommended for kittens and outdoor cats. The first dose is given at 8 weeks, followed by a booster 3–4 weeks later. Annual boosters are suggested for cats at high risk.
2. Bordetella
What It Is: This bacterium causes respiratory infections, particularly in multi-cat environments or shelters.
Vaccine Dose and Schedule: The Bordetella vaccine is given based on risk. It’s typically administered to kittens at 4 weeks or older, with annual boosters as necessary.
3. Chlamydia
What It Is: Chlamydia causes conjunctivitis and respiratory issues in cats.
Vaccine Dose and Schedule: The vaccine is usually given to kittens at 9 weeks, with a second dose 3–4 weeks later. Annual boosters are recommended for at-risk cats.
Vaccination Schedule Overview
Here’s a simplified vaccination schedule to follow for your cat:
6–8 weeks: FPV, FHV-1, FCV
12–16 weeks: Rabies
Annual boosters: FPV, FHV-1, FCV, Rabies (depending on the type of vaccine)
Aftercare and Monitoring
After your cat receives a vaccine, it’s important to keep an eye on them for any potential adverse reactions. Common side effects may include a mild fever, lethargy, and a reduced appetite, which typically subside within a day or two. In rare instances, cats might experience allergic reactions that require immediate veterinary attention. If you notice any unusual symptoms, it’s best to visit a cat veterinary hospital in Delhi to ensure your feline friend receives the proper care.
Conclusion
Ensuring your cat is up-to-date on their vaccinations is one of the best ways to protect their health and well-being. By adhering to the recommended vaccine doses and schedules, you can help your feline companion live a long, healthy life. Always consult with your veterinarian to tailor the vaccination plan to your cat’s specific needs and lifestyle.

Max trying to find if either Jimmy or Sassy ate the engagement ring
Cw: veterinary surgery, mentions animal's sickness
"It was here, Victoria!", Max huffed, "I swear it was. I bought it with mama, we went to the shop she said we should go, got it in a nice box and everything. Not the velvety ones because Y/N can't stand velvet, so I was this wooden one, it flips open with a magnet and- and now I've lost it!".
It had been a nightmare. Max had everything planned to propose to you. The set up was ready, the plans were scheduled and everyone knew where they needed to be. It was all going underway until he found the box on the floor of his side of the home office. You rarely went near his desk, so he figured you wouldn't find it.
"I know you're worried about it, but let us look- No! Jimmy! You can't eat that! Max, have you fed the cats today? Jimmy keeps eating everything, and Sassy is following the steps!", his sister alerted, "Oh, do you think...?".
"Do I think what- Oh, no", Max caught up, grabbing his cellphone and calling up the veterinarian, "hey, I have an urgent matter in my hands".
A few hours and imaging studies later, the veterinarian found the engagement ring inside of Jimmy, "can you tell me how the ring is, please?", the doctor asked.
"It's a very simple cut, and my girlfriend has very small fingers so it isn't that big- Oh, do you think that's why the cat ate it?", he wondered.
"Cats have their own minds, you know? Anything could've led to eat it. But since you say it is simple and doesn't have many details, it will be easier to pass, hopefully", she concluded, "keep an eye out for them, but so far they seem fine".
Back with the carriers in the car and his sister shaking her head, "you're getting Y/N a new one, or at least send this one to the best cleaning service in this city", she snickered, "twice or even three times, just to make sure it's properly clean".
(Thank you for your submission ✨️)

Hey guys, it's me again, back with the not being able to afford my rent because life is like that sometimes.
Hello, my name is Biko, I'm a 29 year old queer trans guy to put it simply. I also have a range of health issues that mean I should not be working.
I have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type One, to put it into smaller words I have a weird form of cancer, yes, this will eventually be terminal, my pancreas is already looking iffy. I also have a tethered spinal cord, and my body below the waist is especially in constant agony.
Despite this I work as many hours as I can in one of the jobs that's up near the top of the list for physical injury and burnout. To be able to afford my rent -- not even food or other needs, just rent -- I need to make minimum $300 a week, and right now I'm just not.
My mental and physical health have been deteriorating severely, I need help. Please consider donating to me, extra funds will go towards padding next month's rent, which will allow me to do things like buy groceries and make sure my service dog can get his veterinary checkups regularly. It would also mean I could go to the doctor and maybe get my medication refilled.
my Paypal is: [email protected] My Cashapp is: Tricksterkisses My Venmo is: Tricksterkisses My Ko-Fi is: Here
I also have a myriad of character designs for sale Here if you desire.

The MD and DVM; Chapter 1
Author’s note: hii omg this is the first fanfiction I’ve written in about five years now loool…I wrote this because I’ve never seen a harvey fic where the farmer is a veterinarian, and I have seen many questionable things said about farming. I work on a farm, and I am working towards going to veterinary school, so I felt my knowledge might contribute to a unique Harvey fic lol correct me if I’m wrong, tho, and please let me know if I should continue this! Crossposted on ao3 under xxdeaduniverse.
spring 1
You had always loved your grandfather’s property. His death almost broke you. However, you were delighted to find that he had left you his farm, Cinnamon Meadow. It was a quiet slice of heaven nestled away in Pelican Town. It still had all its old charm, just some added overgrowth and a lack of crops and animals.
You graduated from veterinary school a couple of years ago. Visiting your grandfather’s farm ignited your love for animals, and it only grew the older you became. After eight years, you earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science and were officially a doctor in veterinary medicine.
Since your veterinary school was near Zuzu City, you picked up a job offer at a clinic in the heart of the city and worked almost exclusively with dogs and cats. It was incredibly fun; however, you had forgotten your initial dream of working with farm animals instead of small ones. So when your grandfather died, you were happy to see he left you the farm in his will. While living in Zuzu City, you would visit Pelican Town every so often to say hello to your grandfather, but more so because Marnie was a client of yours. She called you whenever her animals were having the slightest of health issues. You were happy to answer her calls because it meant you would see cows, catch up with Marnie, and say hello to your grandfather.
You sighed while you stood on the porch of your grandfather’s old house, which was technically yours now. It was a beautiful spring day. You didn’t realize how much you had missed the sounds of birds chirping.
Marnie interrupted your peace by slamming the front door on her way out of the house.
“Whoops! Didn’t mean to let that door slam,” She chuckled. You smiled at her. You were so grateful she agreed to help you move your stuff today.
“Well, that was the last box,” She sighed in relief. “I’ve gotta run. Shane has to work a shift at JojaMart, and I need to watch Jas. You should stop by Robin’s house today so she can start building you a coop!” Marnie exclaimed, smiling at you.
“Yeah, I probably will. I want to get this place up and running as soon as possible,” You said, looking out onto the land again.
“I’ll be at the saloon Friday night. You should stop by and introduce yourself to everyone then,” suggested Marnie.
“That’s a good idea, actually. Gives me enough time to do some work and mentally prepare to meet all the new people,” You chuckled. Marnie rolled her eyes.
“They’ll love you. Just come by whenever you’re ready, okay?” She winked at you before walking off towards her farm.
You waved goodbye and groaned once you realized you would have to clear some overgrowth to build a chicken coop. You cracked your knuckles, grabbed your axe from the porch, and got to work.
A couple of hours of hard work later, you had a small clearing of land by the farmhouse. You decided that would be enough hard work for today, you weren’t sure when Robin would close up, and you haven’t unpacked anything in your house at all. You set the axe back on your porch and made yourself look somewhat presentable. You noticed your cat, Horace, had already taken a liking to the new digs. He had plopped himself on top of a pile of boxes. Horace was a fat, tuxedo tabby cat and essentially your best friend since you had adopted him your junior year of college. You gave him a pat on the head before heading out to Robin’s.
You admired the peace on your walk to the mountains. At some point, the hours must have melted away because three o’clock. You finally noticed how tired you were from moving in and doing physical work on the land. However, your dreams of dozing away were cut short. The walk to Robin’s was not as long as you had anticipated, though, as her house suddenly appeared hidden behind pine trees. You took a moment to admire her house, assuming she had built it herself. Wooden with a blue roof. You liked it. Once you spotted the telescope on the left, you immediately wondered how beautiful the skies must be here. You hadn’t seen a sky free of light pollution in years.
You cautiously opened the front door to see a counter with a ginger woman standing on the other side reading a newspaper. She looked up when the door opened, smiling at you.
“You must be Y/N! I’m so glad to meet you finally. I heard someone was moving into Cinnamon Meadow, but I didn’t know so soon. I’m Robin,” She said, coming out behind the counter to shake your hand. You shook it, happy to realize she wasn’t startled by some stranger entering her home. You smiled at her.
“Hi. Marnie said to come see you if I wanted anything built, so here I am,” You chuckled. Robin looked delighted.
“Well, sure! What were you wanting to have built?” She eagerly questioned. It was easy to see she was excited; not many villagers in Pelican Town needed new construction.
“I’m going to get Cinnamon Meadow up and running again, so I’ll need a new chicken coop. And then a barn. And probably house renovations. I need a lot done,” You sheepishly rubbed your neck, wondering if this was too much to request all at once. Robin defied you and lit up even more.
“Great! I can get started on the chicken coop tomorrow!” She exclaimed.
“Deal.”
~
After paperwork and settling payments, you returned to Cinnamon Meadow to continue yardwork. You felt so relieved that the coop wasn’t too expensive to build. You had been saving up since you paid off your tuition, and you were finally happy to invest some of the funds into your future. Around six o’clock, your exhaustion won over your ambition, and you decided to settle down for the night. You unpacked enough kitchen supplies to scrounge up some frozen dinner, took a hot shower, and promptly fell asleep with Horace in your small bed around eight.
You slept better than you had in ages. You even had a dream where your farm was complete, cows and all. But you knew something was missing. Or rather, a special someone. What was the farm if you had no one to share it with? You thought to yourself within your dream. You had always told yourself you didn’t need to be with someone, that as long as you made yourself happy, it was all that mattered. But you still ached for it. Your dream was cut short by a particular fat cat lightly smacking your cheek.
“What the–Horace!” You exclaimed.
“I was sleeping so well…” You sighed. You checked the time on your phone. 6 AM? Might as well get up now and get some yardwork done I guess… You thought to yourself with an elongated yawn. You realized you were a little sore from all the work yesterday. You groaned, knowing there would be more to come today. Slowly, you pulled yourself out of bed and organized some food for Horace. As expected, he flew to his breakfast and you figured you should do the same for yourself. A cup of coffee and one granola bar later, you pulled on your favorite pair of overalls and stretched. Today was going to be long. You intended to clear more of the land and buy and plant seeds.
You headed outside to start working and saw Robin hammering away at the coop. Her enthusiasm for her work made you smile.
“Morning, Robin! Any coffee for you?” You greeted.
“NO THANKS!” She yelled back with a smile. You wondered why she was screaming before noticing she was wearing headphones. You chuckled, grabbed your axe, and went straight to work.
Around one, you figured you should take a break to go to the store. You briefly recall Marnie mentioning a place called Pierre’s. After trading your axe for your wallet, you started heading in the general direction of town. It was another beautiful day. Are all the days here going to be as lovely as they have been? You wondered, smiling to yourself. You noticed that the change of scenery from moving here had already positively affected you.
You walked into town and focused on the square before you. It's small but adorable. Lamposts and trees lined the square, along with a few buildings. The one before you was the doctor’s clinic, with Pierre’s store on the other side. You briefly wondered about the town doctor for a moment. You knew you should get yourself checked up sooner rather than later. After doing farm research in your undergrad, you unfortunately found out the hard way that farm work was no joke. You filed away this thought for later and walked into Pierre’s.
The general store was small but had everything you could ever need. The older gentleman with glasses behind the single register smiled at you.
“You must be the new farmer! Y/N right? I’m Pierre. It’s so nice to have somebody new in town!” He exclaimed. You wondered when the last time somebody new moved into Pelican Town.
“Yeah, I’m Y/N. It’s nice to meet you,” You smiled back.
“I’m so sorry to hear about your grandfather. He was a great man. Sold me the best crops,” Pierre sighed. You felt a tinge of grief bite at you, pushing it away immediately.
“He was a good man. I fully intend to restore the farm, though, so I’ll have some crops for you,” You chuckled. Remembering what you came here for, you grabbed a bunch of random seed packets and essentials for your kitchen. You accidentally bumped into a woman with bright green hair in one of the aisles. You quickly learned she was Pierre’s wife, Caroline.
“You should come to the aerobics class here on Tuesdays! Great way to get to know everyone,” She smiled. The thought of any more exercise than you already had to do on the farm made you cringe.
“Maybe,” you tentatively said before mentioning it was good to meet her and heading to checkout. You went right home afterward, excited to plant your new seeds. You may have been a little ambitious when you started tilling the dirt; the field you created was large. You also knew if you wanted to make money anytime soon, it would be from crops.
It took forever to till, plant, and water the field. By the time it was 6, you were wiping sweat off your brow and decided that was all you could take today. You headed into your house to make a proper dinner from the groceries you picked up at Pierre’s today: homemade pizza. You savored every bite—your first meal in your first owned house. The thought made you smile. After a shower, you watched TV, cuddling Horace before finally falling asleep for the night.
The following two days seemed to blur together. At some point, you went to Marnie’s to catch up and buy chickens after Robin was done with the coop. You were overjoyed to finally have animals back on the farm and made a mental note to return to Robin’s on Monday to have her start building a barn. However, today was Friday. The day you were going to the saloon. You thought about it–stressed about it–while doing your farm chores that morning. Was everyone going to like you? Would they insist on kicking you out of Pelican Town? Or would you drink enough to forget these irrational thoughts and let go? You decided on the latter.
By the time five o’clock rolled around, you had showered and started getting ready for your first night out on the town. You threw on your favorite pair of jeans and a sweater with some jewelry. After a little makeup and tweaking your hair, you decided you were ready.
Walking out the door, you felt a cold spring breeze on your back. You were immediately grateful you picked a sweater. As you walked towards the saloon, you looked up at the sky. The sun had just begun to set. It was your favorite time of day. A part of you felt like having drinks on your porch alone instead of being crowded by strangers in a bar, but you knew better than to be a hermit tonight. You had told Marnie you would be there, so you would.
You could hear faint music and laughter inside as you approached the saloon. A warm glow of light emitted from the windows. You took a deep breath and walked in. The villagers were having so much fun not many even noticed you came in except Marnie. She sat in the center of the bar, smiling and waving at you. A wave of relief washed over you. You smiled and sat down
next to her.
“I’m so glad you came! I’ll have to introduce you to everyone,” She said, handing you a glass of wine—even more relief. You gulped to soothe your nerves. One by one, Marnie introduced you to some people in the town. You knew you would struggle to remember some of their names after tonight. You met Emily, tending the bar, along with Gus. Leah, an artist who had also moved to the valley from the city. Pam, who seemed like the local drunk. Willy, a sweet fisherman. Marnie pointed out other people; you determined Demetrius was married to Robin because they were dancing together. Some younger kids in the other room were Sebastian, Sam, and Abigail. A young woman with glasses suddenly sat herself next to you.
“Marnie, is this the new farmer we’ve all been hearing about?” She questioned, smiling at you.
“Yup! Y/N, meet Maru,” Marnie motioned to her.
“Hi,” you shyly said with a smile.
“Y/N is a veterinarian,” Marnie blurted out. You nodded.
“Good to have another scientist in town,” Maru giggled. “Dr. Y/N, then?” She asked. You laughed.
“Oh, no, please don’t call me doctor…except when I’m looking at your animals,” You winked, and they laughed. Maru looked in the other direction of the bar, and you saw something go off in her brain.
“I should introduce you to the only other doctor in town,” Maru giggled.
“Oh, sure, I’ve meant to meet them, actually,” You nodded. Maru took your hand and led you to a table near the jukebox. At the table sat two men having wine. One had long hair and wore a reddish coat, the other with glasses and a mustache wearing a green coat. Before you had time to think further, Maru set her hands down on the table.
“Gentlemen, this is Y/N. She just moved into Cinnamon Meadow. Harvey, she is also a doctor,” Maru said with a smirk. You briefly wondered which one she was talking to before the man in the glasses smiled.
“Is that right? I’m the town’s doctor, Harvey,” He introduced himself. You were taking him in. Handsome. Really handsome. It didn’t help you had a thing for mustaches, but he was also smart, evidently.
“I’m a veterinarian. I planned on getting my MD for a while but decided I liked animals more than people,” This raised a laugh out of them all.
“Good to meet you, doctor Y/N,” Harvey said, sipping his wine. The man with the long hair introduced himself as Elliott. You immediately let his name slip your mind because you were considering how you would further get to know Harvey. Marnie interrupted your thoughts by calling for you from the bar.
“Y/N! Come here, you gotta tell me what breed of cows you want to invest in!!” You blushed.
“I suppose I’ll see you later,” You said, mainly to Harvey. You could feel the alcohol working its way into your system, so it was probably best you get away from him now before you were completely drunk. Harvey looked a little disappointed.
“Be sure to come see me some time to get checked up,” He quickly mentioned. You nodded, smiling; maybe you weren’t just delusional, and he thought the same about you. You walked back to Marnie, but every fiber of your being wanted to stay and have another drink with him.

Sharing my TCD headcanons!! And revamping old ones soon, but these are mainly for some of the characters! :]
Some of these may have minor spoilers for pretty much…every season of Tcd? So be wary!
Nick [
Nick is 22 years old! When the apocalypse started he was around 18-19
Nick has amnesia, he can’t remember much from before he woke up in the literal apocalypse. But he occasionally can remember very blurred memories. Someone with glasses, a house- some old stores here and there with no names to match…odd
Nick is NOT aloud to cook anything, he can bake sure! But he somehow burned WATER. So Shark refuses to let Nick ANYWHERE near the kitchen or the stove. Shark is very protective of his kitchen.
Nick adores animals and helps out any of the ones he finds, there’s a cat that wanders around the cdc who’s been named Smokey! Nick found Smokey during a blizzard, Nick also has a few chickens and ducks he’s somehow found and adopted? I mean..everyone gets free eggs from the chickens so win win!
Nick collects dinosaur bones, specifically ones from museums near by. By his words (as AK once asked him why he had a taco skull in his bag) Nick responded with “I mean..they’re just sitting there? Who’s gonna stop me from taking one or two fossils here and there”
Nick, wayyy back when it was just him, Ghetto and Jorden. Broke his leg when they jumped off of the boat to escape from the walkers, Ghetto patched him up but Nick was pretty much stuck on the couch for a few months- his leg never healed properly. And he has a minor limp that kicks up when he’s been walking around for too long
Nick is Gay, because I said so- (there’s no way that man is NOT fruity. Idc what canon says) he’s also ace! ]
Ghetto [
Ghetto is 23 years old, only a couple of months older than Nick- when the Apocalypse started he was also around 18-19!
When the apocalypse started Ghetto had gone to check in on his friend, and he won’t tell Nick this..but Ghetto had found his friend just….not how he use to be…at least he doesn’t get to see what the worlds come to..
Before the apocalypse Ghetto use to work at a Shelter for pets! He’d do minor veterinary work here and there. So he knows how to handle a few medical procedures..nothing major. He can stitch people up and can help brace a broken limb. He’s the one who helped patch up when Nick broke his leg- and would help the others with minor injuries.
Ghetto also learned a few medical tricks here and there from his older sister! Since she had grown up to be a doctor- (he’s…still not sure where she is. But he hopes she’s okay.,,)
Ghetto, after being bitten/healed by Ross. Seems to have grown sharper K9’s, and the whites of his eyes gained a greenish hue to em. It doesn’t affect his vision at all..,but it is a constant reminder of what he almost became. He also keeps a piece of cloth to keep the bite mark scar hidden. If he doesn’t have his jacket on.
Ghetto has a moon shamed necklace that was a gift from Nick, Nick said it reminded him of the time Ghetto mentioned he liked astrology! Ghetto never takes it off..ever.
Ghetto is Bi! He’s even on both ends, but occasionally finds himself leaning towards one side more than the other- kinda flip flops here and there? ]
Ak ]
Ak is around 23, when the apocalypse started he was around 19-21.
Ak had been off to visit some family, specifically Jorden’s family! He is the best friend to Jorden’s mom and is Jorden’s god father/best babysitter. He was in town when the outbreak happened and spent half that time trying to find jorden. He had to keep the kid safe, it was his parents last wishes…his best friends last wish. And Ak was going to die before he’d let anything happen to Jorden.
Ak…fully regrets when he had eaten his first teammate back in the early days of the apocalypse. He was desperate for food and had no idea what had come over him..he refuses to tell the others but worries that Red may know…red always knows. How does he always know??
Ak is a decent tech guy, infact he’s the main guy the crew calls in to help repair the generators! He also shows the others how to clean out their guns properly, taught them how to properly shoot, even taught them smaller things like to not touch your face after firing a gun due to the gunpowder.
Ak refuses to take his mask off, let alone around anyone else. He’s only ever done it once or twice. Mainly around Shark, Ghetto, or Nick. Since they’ve been together the longest
Ak HATES red with a burning passion. Not only for killing off the only person left from before, but for bringing harm to his friends, his family..his found family. He will have reds head on a stick. One day..
Ak is pan! ]
Shark ]
Shark is around 23, being around 18-19 when the apocalypse started.
Sharks gf had been visiting for the summer when everything came crashing down. They had been sticking together for awhile but…Sharks GF hadn’t been paying attention and..had gotten bit..a few days later Shark was on his own again..
Shark was apart of the group of bandits that had been raiding seaport ages ago, though he luckily had decided to book it out of their days before Nick and Ghetto took out most of the bandits. A few hours later and baddabing badda boom! New party member :]
Shark wears sunglasses 24/7 cause the sun hurts his eyes. Even inside it can be a bit too much, and other lights like candles and such can cause minor irritation. So he wears the sunglasses to protect his eyes!
Shark before the apocalypse did nothing major, he was studying up to become a detective, had a stable job at a local diner, it wasn’t perfect but it was nice! And he could actually afford things.
Sharks mama is Hispanic! She was this sweet woman who had adopted shark when he was around 7-10! He was the oldest kid there, and Since older kids don’t really get adopted she wanted to give Shark that chance. Shark adored his mother and forever is grateful for her! (She luckily passed before the apocalypse had started.)
Shark is Bi! Leans more towards dudes! ]

Hello Colleen!
How did you become an illustrator?
With much admiration,
-Cindy
Thank you kindly for asking.
When I was a very little girl, I liked to draw a lot. So I did. I won some prizes when I was very little.
I come from a very poor family. I did not know you could make money as an artist, so it didn't seem to me like something I could do for a living. I really wanted to be an astronaut and go to the moon like Neil Armstrong, but the moon missions were already over when I was a kid. So I decided to become a doctor. It seemed like a good thing to do with your life; you helped people, it was respectable, and you could make a good living at it.
My mother worked at a veterinary hospital and both doctors there were very supportive and even let me work there where I learned to do things like sew sutures.
This probably seems a little weird today. But when I was little, it was not at all unusual for kids to go to work, especially in agricultural/rural communities.
I'd enjoyed comic books when I was very small, but they were hard to find.
When I was twelve, I got very sick and was bedridden for a long time. A family friend brought over a big box of old comics for me to read. I loved them and realized that people worked in comics for a living, mostly from reading about the writers and artists in Marvel Bullpen articles.
From that point on, I looked neither right nor left, and arranged my entire life around becoming a professional artist. This was all before the internet. So I spent a lot of time in the library learning about the publishing business. I started sending out samples when I was twelve to both trade and comics publishers after reading about how to submit in Writer's Digest. My first rejection letter came from Random House.
I saw fliers for a science fiction convention and a fan club. I also heard an ad for one on the radio, There weren't many comic book conventions back then and I never attended one until after I was already a professional comic book artist.
The science fiction club was near NASA. My mom would dutifully drive me to club meetings once a month. Most of the people in the club were adults, and many worked at NASA. One of them had an advertising business. She saw my work when I was around 14/15 and hired me.
That is how I became an illustrator.

Paw Prints on My Heart: A Journey of Getting My First Day
by Mary Angeline T. Dalangin
Even if my parents had talked about getting me a puppy, I never actually thought that they were going to. A couple weeks later before my dad went back to work abroad, he surprised me with the best news ever - I was getting a puppy! From that moment, I couldn’t hide what I felt and imagined immediately about the endless games with my first puppy. It was like my heart started to dance because of the happiness I felt at that time.
It was August 2012, and my family and I went to SM City. It became my favorite place because of how I was so excited to buy things for my first-ever puppy! My parents gave me the freedom to pick out all sorts of cool stuff like the squeaky toys that made the funniest noises that every puppy would love, a leash, and a very comfortable bed that would make my first puppy sleep like he’s in a fluffy cloud. Every purchase of things for him felt like I was meeting a new best friend that I would cherish forever.
The long-awaited finally arrived! It was September 2012 when we went to Danao to pick up my first-ever puppy. When my family and I got there, there was a tiny crate in the corner, and I immediately went up closer to check. I met a tiny ball of fur with eyes sparkling with happiness. I remembered he jumped right into my arms and that was the time that I knew that we were meant to be for each other. I named him Buddy because at the time I just finished watching a movie called Air Bud and I wanted to name my first dog Buddy. From that moment, he became a part of the family.
As I was trying to get to know Buddy, I got to see him do zoomies and his morning walks every day. I was having so much time spending time with him and that was one of the best moments in my life. Every afternoon, we always go to the park near our village to get some fresh air and to meet with other dogs from our neighborhood that became Buddy’s friends.
It was December 2012, my first Christmas with him. It was so much fun because our relatives got to meet him and I can tell that he was so happy too. As it hit midnight on December 25, he was quite scared of the fireworks displayed in our neighborhood and as a first-time pet owner, I searched for what to do and immediately comforted him by staying by his side.
Things took a turn when Budyy got sick. He wasn’t his usual playful self. As his owner, I was really worried and couldn’t stop thinking about it. It felt like the day lost its sunshine without his morning zoomies and his happy barks.
My family and I rushed him to the vet and I noticed that my tears welled up in my eyes as the doctors took him away from me. I got his collar in my hand like it is now my lucky charm.
August 2013, I got the best news ever! Buddy came home and I saw him wagging his tail. I immediately hugged him and I started crying because of happiness. From that moment, I promised him to make our moments together memorable and to cherish them.
A few months passed by, and that worried feeling returned. It was January 2014 and another trip to the vet happened. When we arrived at the veterinary hospital, the doctors tried checking up on him and left me confused about what Buddy’s condition was. A few hours later, the doctors announced that he was now in a better place. Saying goodbye to your best friend was the hardest thing to ever do. As I was holding his paws, I started crying inside the hospital and felt like my heart was breaking into a million pieces.
As my mom was trying to comfort me, I couldn’t stop thinking about the times I spent time together with him. I will forever miss his zoomies, his morning walks, and his meet-ups with his other friends in the park near our village.
We buried him in our backyard, I was crying as he was lying down there lifeless. The falling leaves of the trees from our backyard mingled with my tears. This is a happy and sad memory of the amazing love we shared. I will never forget him.

“Package for…” the deliveryman paused to reread through his receipt. “Elliot Shimizu?”
Elliot timidly nodded and stepped aside, allowing the deliveryman to wheel inside the massive cardboard box. Without much questions, Elliot watched him assemble together the contents inside the box at a rather quick pace.
Tumblr media
It was a standing shelf shaped into a deer, all made of wood and was taller than even him.
The deliveryman turned to Elliot and handed him a letter. “Oh, and this is also for you. Have a good rest of your day.”
And he was gone.
Bewildered, Elliot shook his head and carefully ripped into the letter.
“Hey! Happy Birthday!
We don’t talk all that much, but it doesn’t hurt for me to wish you a Happy Birthday. Enjoy your present, by the way! I hear you’re an animal-lover, so I thought this would be nice to have around. Feel free to fill the shelves with whatever you’d like! Feel free to stop by Akihabara for a visit, Mr. Animal Man. Wherever the year ahead takes you, I sure hope it’s happy for you!
Best wishes,
Dr. Anika Kiyozaki”
"Kiyozaki-sensei?" Elliot repeated, trying to recall the name before. He thinks one of the doctors at the veterinary may have mentioned it once or twice, but he never really heard of her until now. He smiled at the letter and at the gift that she had sent to him. More dressers and shelves were always appreciated due to the large number of books and plants that he collected. Straining, he picked it up and carried it to his room, placing it near his desk table. After making sure it was fit, he nodded and began the onerous, yet enjoyable task of getting his room straighten out.

Should I Take My Rescued Dog to the Vet after Bringing them Home?
Tumblr media
Yes, it is highly recommended that you take your rescued dog to the veterinarian as soon as possible after bringing them home. A vet can assess the dog's overall health, check for any underlying medical conditions, and give them any necessary vaccinations. They can also help you create a preventive care plan and advise on proper nutrition and exercise. Additionally, if your rescued dog was not spayed or neutered, your veterinarian can advise you on the best time for this procedure. A veterinary visit will give you peace of mind and ensure your rescued dog is healthy and happy in their new home.
Here is my personal story:
I adopted my girl (one-year-old Boxer) a month ago from a nearby shelter. The fear in her eyes is what broke my heart and I knew I can’t leave her there. I began the adoption procedures right away. When I finally got her custody I took her to the nearest clinic to meet the veterinary doctors in Newtown.
Thankfully, I took the instant decision as I found out she had a urinary tract infection. The vets at Corona Newtown assured me that they can treat her and she’s still under medical supervision. The good news is my little girl is getting better eventually, her medications are working. When I notice how her ear position has changed, how her sparkly eyes meet mine, and how relaxed she is nowadays, I thank my stars every time. Life has never felt so complete before. I always wanted a dog and I am very happy I met her and rescued her right when I needed her the most. Thank you Corona Newtown for your prompt treatment and facilities.
