Angela Orosco Silent Hill 2
#in anticipation of the incoming remake#i tried my best to imitate the SH font but#silent hill#silent hill 2#angela#angela orosco#theme of laura (reprise)#i've said it before but in spite of its occasionally clunky diction i think silent hill 2 is an unusually emotionally intelligent game#for any year and still today but especially so for where gaming storytelling was in 2001#and for as many pitfalls a story like hers could've dipped into i think it particularly shines through with how they treated angela#not just choosing to depict victimhood as something that can be ugly and fractious and open quote “difficult” but then this#actively rebuffing james for trying to offer hope and dressing him down for it too#“i know you mean well and want to help but this isn't a simple problem"#“and it's really hurtful and a bit insulting that you act like you can”#the switching to a first person view turning it into an address to the player as well#maybe even old videogame tropes too#“this isn't some princess in a castle kind of situation dude this is more serious than that”#it felt like a very deliberate statement about the depth and severity of a trauma like this#and in doing so showing it so much respect#there is no quick easy solution to this and you won't get one#then angela just leaves#and you never see her again#i really don't think it was to imply that it consumed her i think it was to underline what was just said#this isn't your problem to fix#this is where your part in this story ends#there's some strength in that

almost across the board, it's jesper's relationships with the other characters in soc that hold the most weight for me, so really it's not surprising just how much wesper has taken over my heart.
they just complement each other so well. they look out for each other, they understand each other, they both see the world from unique angles, but at the intersection is this perfect place where they can look into the other's eyes and find someone who gets it. they're like puzzle pieces fr, their strengths and weaknesses evening out and clicking into place. i love the way they challenge each other, the way they each make the other better.
i think about the moment in the bakery when colm tells wylan that he'd be good for jesper and wylan thinks about being good enough for him, which is an entirely different measure. and what that says about how much he values jesper, but also how much he values himself. and you could say a similar thing about jesper. he may have always felt more too much than not enough, but when it comes to living up to people's expectations, there's always something missing, something wrong. and he holds wylan in such high esteem too that there's a do i deserve this aspect they share. and it tears at my heart. especially considering the other half of colm's sentiment, the bit about not knowing if jesper would be good for wylan.
i think there's something about the way they both get the chance to meet and understand the other's parents (or at least the living ones), when of any of the six, its the two of them whose stories and whose views of themselves and the world were most impacted by their parents. it's about seeing where the other is coming from yes, but it's also about support, it's about providing the love and understanding they didn't receive as kids.
there's this image in my head of a box and the way neither of them fit so wylan learned to exist without while jesper tried to trim himself down within but that left him shooting off like sunflares. and the box is love and acceptance. but once they meet each other, once they start getting to know each other, the box starts to deteriorate until jesper fills the space wylan didn't think he had access to and wylan meets jesper at his own natural edges.
like i said, puzzle pieces.

neither of the countries care about kashmiris or the terror they have to live with, their lives are just collateral damage that are expendable to them. they'll fight for the land while oppressing & killing the natives. an attack for an attack is not something anyone should be cheering for. godi media will never talk about the deaths & communal hate that follows up after operation sindoor. india & pakistan both are nuclear states with decades history of colonialism of kashmir, to them this is just another excuse to 1) try to seize control of whatever little kashmiri land that they can 2) to feed more vitriol & blind nationalism to andhbhakts on either side 3) mainly to feed their ego tbh. you cannot claim to be anti-war & yet cheer for either of the country's attacks. there are innocent people stuck between these two bloodthirsty maniacs and if you do not find yourself sympathizing and worrying about their lives i don't think you should be talking about this issue at all.

i think it is very silly to react to dropout's response like "why were people mad, you know the cast and crew are pro palestine" yeah exactly and if they weren't i don't think attempting to push a petition/boycott to them about this would do anything. the result of them acknowledging this was a net good. twenty thousand dollars

Lolol sometimes it’s so funny reading peoples posts about “Mormon” theology that is based on Exmo stories, tradition/culture but not doctrine, and like random statements by some church leader 200 years ago that was not put into doctrine/canonized, or that he was corrected/reprimanded on, and all of us look back on like “well that guy was racist/sexist. Anyways moving on…” like tbh it just makes me laugh. Like I know our theology is a bit different than mainstream Christianity but y’all don’t need to make it sound like we are out here truly believing half the stuff you say about us.

with the caps at home vs the panthers tonight, i wanted to come on here and say a couple things about the panthers’ visit to the white house.
i’ve seen some people on here and on twitter pointing out the hypocrisy of certain players who have vocally supported diversity initiatives in hockey turning around and doing a photo op with a man who is nakedly trying to strip marginalized people of their rights. the sense of betrayal those fans are feeling is completely justified. despite appearances, conservative politics are incredibly popular among nhl players. i’m not writing to defend any of these men (my views lean pretty far left), but to share my understanding of the ways north american hockey as an institution perpetuates conservatism.
1) barrier of entry
ice hockey requires a lot of equipment to play. to be able to put a child through the decade or more of club dues and equipment fees required to begin seeing returns on investment—in men’s hockey, this begins with stipend pay at the major junior level in north america—requires an amount of money that many families simply cannot pay (though there are a bevy of charities trying to combat this). sports like soccer and basketball, which require comparably little equipment, are far more popular among both players of color and players from low-income families, especially in countries where hockey isn’t a national pastime.
because of this economic disparity between those who can play hockey and those who can’t, locker rooms can turn into echo chambers of privilege.
2) lack of higher education
i’m not sure of the data for other countries, but in the united states, there is a high positive correlation between holding a college degree and voting for democratic candidates. north american players are drafted to the nhl from major junior and collegiate teams, and entrance to professional leagues cuts their education short.
nhl players drafted from collegiate teams often enter the league without completing a bachelor’s degree, getting a year or two of higher education. during those years, many pick classes that they already have a strong knowledge base in, aware they’ll need to keep their grades up to maintain their university’s gpa requirement for athletes. because of this, many miss out on subjects that would teach them about systems of inequality like statistics, sociology, and studies of groups of historically marginalized people.
major juniors players, who move away from home in their mid teens, are even worse off. they leave school, usually completing the bare minimum requirements of a high school diploma to focus on their development as players and travel for games. and up until a recent vote, athletes from the canadian major junior hockey leagues were ineligible from playing ncaa hockey.
3) body economics
like all athletes, hockey players’ bodies are their jobs. the natural decline of their bodies over time limits their playing careers to the years of their lives when they can physically compete with both opposing players (to win games) and their own teammates (for roster spots).
the mean nhl career is 7 years. many hockey players don’t learn another trade and have no guarantee of making a successful career transition after retirement from playing (though some go on to coaching and media positions).
this creates a pressure to make as much money as possible while they still can, knowing that every time the take to the ice to do their jobs, they risk the very things they use to earn money: their bodies.
the physical nature of hockey means that a career-ending injury could come at any point. holding onto their earnings, knowing they’ll likely make up the bulk of income over their entire life, is essential to ensuring the comfort and health of themselves and their families.
earning high paychecks for an inherently limited number of years, it becomes attractive to these players to support candidates who promise to cut taxes for the rich, something popular among conservative politicians. while players may bear no ill will to members of historically marginalized groups and may even support their rights and freedoms, their personal economic situations lead them to vote for politicians who perpetuate that marginalization.
there are plenty of straight-up bigots playing major league sports. the panthers shouldn’t be singled out for visiting 1600 pennsylvania avenue. not because supporting the current administration isn’t reprehensible, but because it isn’t unique among hockey players—or even among athletes.

The misogyny in that interview is backed by the fact that he has said misogynistic statements in the past, people don't change, they hide, his views are concerning
came into my inbox with a whole lot of anon confidence, and in all of the 4 seconds it took me to read this waste of time, you provided nothing to the argument.

Just remembered this from the digital live shows. After 2-42 this couldn’t be more true than it’s already been. Truly a piss podcast.

I cannot explain how much I love the line "Let's teach this dog a lesson" In Little Wolf
Because Telemachus is a wolf. He's young, and inexperienced. But Antonious is a dog. A dog can train for years, but it won't have the same natural ability as a wolf. Wolves are naturally larger, faster, and intelligent than your average dog, even without all of their training
Dogs need years of training to be able to fight a wolf, but a young wolf can fight a large dog and at least be able to walk away at the end, even if there wasn't a victory

extremely funny to me whenever someone tries to counter the statement that "all art is political" by using a silly meme image. as if their sense of humor isnt one of the easiest paths to a person's values and beliefs

I have no patience or tolerance for people who need a qualifier in order to condemn hamas/antisemitism. Why the hell do you feel that you must specify that you don't support the Israeli government or Netanyahu in order to say the words "antisemitism is wrong." It's wrong regardless, fucker.

Friendly reminder that this page is not involved in sharing real world politics and social events. There are literally thousands of blogs on this hellsite that specialise in that sort of thing (including my personal).
Tastes of Tamriel is a refuge from the real world. Simple as that. I'm not "showing my privilege" by keeping this space a haven for those of us who need to escape from all that for just one hot second. This. Is. Not. The. Place. For. Politics.
And if you're concerned about my views? Let me put it in context. I am a POC woman social anthropologist trained in the past ten years. Do you THINK that is the right sort of person to be calling secretly a LGBTQ+ hating, genocide supporting, colonialism glorifying atrocity to humankind? Do you even know what an anthropologist is?
Come onnnnn please develop critical thinking skills. Not everything has to be about pain and suffering. It is not illegal for those of us looking for a reprieve from it to do so. Food and fantasy bring us as a fanbase closer together regardless of our differences and social background.
Take your politics and get off my blog. It's mine to curate. I for one scoff at the accusation that I am somehow problematic for wanting to keep this place free of problems. No sweetie, that's all you. ~Tal
