You can easily tell that everybody is trying their hardest to portray these characters. Some of them came across as real-life people while others just felt like characters in a movie. This could mainly be pointed to the writing in this film. Some of the lines in this film were just hilariously bad and cringy and I would give examples but I already forgot them. But I do have to say the scenery was stunning and the production on this was well done. Each set and costume looked perfect for each scene. The costumes fit each character and showed a bit more into their personality. For example, Richard’s outfits made him look like royalty but at the same time, a normal guy because that’s what he wants to be. This film had lots of pacing issues. From beginning to end it didn’t feel like that was the speed it should be going at. The beginning felt slow while the ending felt to fast. The creators of the film might have thought they had a longer film and then realized they only had a one hour and thirty-two-minute film so they had to quickly resolve the film. The last thing I want to talk about is the relationship in this film. It’s not believable or relatable. I know it shouldn’t be relatable seeing how it is about a journalist falling in love with a prince but the writers still should make it so some people can relate to at least one of them. And it isn’t believable because it seems too rushed. Throughout the entire film, they are hardly around each other and then all of a sudden he just loves her. There is no explanation why just little subtle hints. In the end, A Christmas Prince is perfect for people who like RomComs but for others not so much. I give A Christmas Prince a 6/10. Kamurai: Decent watch, probably won’t watch again, but can recommend. While it isn’t anything truly special, it’s a decent version of a “journalist in disguise falls in love” trope. Though the object of affection being a prince allows for resources that almost anyone wouldn’t turn down. There certainly is a lot of production put into the movie to maintain the grand perception of royals, but the best part of the movie is the heart felt Christmas vibe of it. Unfortunately, this is mostly achieved through the secondary characters and them influencing the royal family.

The book was released on February 27, 2018, nearly two years after McNamara's death and two months before an arrest would be made in the case. Eleven Samurai (Japanese: +-1 01#, romaji:

Samurai, is a 1967 Japanese jidaigeki (period drama) film directed by Elichi Kudo. [1][2][3] This is the third and final chapter in Kudo's Samurai Revolution trilogy. The plot is a samurai epic with a loose historical basis. What’s up Victory Lappers? It’s been waaaaaaaay too long since we’ve last seen you. And while we’ve done a few shows here and there over the past few months we finally have a BRAND NEW SHOW we’re announcing right here, right now.
It’s The Comedy ‘N Wrestling Connection hosted by Victory Lap favorite Matt McCarthy. Matt’s been on our show tons of times, and we’re pumped to be collaborating with him on this brand new production. Luckily, we have the help of our friends over at the Silver Lake Independent Jewish Community Center (SLIJCC), who have been gracious enough to provide the space for this killer show.
Even better, we have a host of new and returning performers on board like Aparna Nancherla, Johnny Pemberton, Brandie Posey, Josh Fadem, Joe Cobden, Ithamar Enriquez, Vince Averill, Tom Sibley and our very own Stu Jenkins. We assume they’ll be funny as hell, and are hoping they don’t hurt each other with any wrestling hijinks.
Come check out The Comedy ‘N Wrestling Connection on January 19 at the SLIJCC -- 1110 Bates Avenue in Silver Lake. The show starts at 7:30pm and tickets are only $10. SEE YOU GUYS THERE!!!

Announcing Winners WGA Awards 2019: ‘Can You Ever Forgive Me?,’ ‘Eighth Grade’
Tumblr media
In a pair of upsets, “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” has won the Writers Guild of America’s adapted screenplay award for Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty and Bo Burnham has won the original screenplay award for “Eighth Grade.”
The major television trophies went to “The Americans,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Homeland” and “Barry” for the 71st Writers Guild Awards, held at dual ceremonies at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., and the Edison Ballroom in New York City. It was the last major awards show before the Feb. 24 Academy Awards.
“Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” based on the memoir of the late Lee Israel, topped the screenplays for “Black Panther,” “If Beale Street Could Talk” “A Star Is Born”; and “BlacKkKlansman.” Though the script for the comedy-drama — the story of how Israel discovered her talent for forgery — has received an Oscar nomination, “Beale Street” and “BlacKkKlansman” were regarded as the front-runners. It appears that the tale of the travails and redemption of a professional writer clearly resonated with Hollywood writers.
“I want to thank Lee,” Holofcener said in her acceptance. “She’d probably be sitting in the room judging all of us. She though she was the smartest person in the room and she probably was.”
A stunned Burnham credited star Elsie Fisher for his winning the WGA award. Burnham won over Alfonso Cuaron’s “Roma”; Adam McKay’s “Vice”; Bryan Woods, Scott Beck, and John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place”; and Peter Farrelly, Nick Vallelonga, and Brian Currie’s “Green Book.” “Roma,” “Vice” and “Green Book” are all nominated for Academy Awards along with “The Favourite” and “First Reformed” while “Eight Grade” did not receive an Oscar nod.
“Eighth Grade,” which stars Fisher as an awkward teen dealing with the final week of eighth grade, also won the first-time Directors Guild of America Award for Burnham on Feb. 2. The film is also up for four Spirit Awards on Feb. 23.
“To the other nominees in the category — Have fun at the Oscars, losers!” Burnham joked in his acceptance. “No, I prepared nothing. This all belongs to Elsie Fisher who performed the script. No one would care about the script if she hadn’t done it.”
“Eighth Grade” is the first film to win the WGA Original Screenplay award without being nominated for an Academy since Michael Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine” in 2003.
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” won the comedy series award for Kate Fodor, Noah Gardenswartz, Jen Kirkman, Sheila Lawrence, Daniel Palladino and Amy Sherman Palladino. Starring Rachel Brosnahan, “Mrs. Maisel” won the Emmy for best comedy series last year.
The final season of “The Americans” took the drama series award for Peter Ackerman, Hilary Bettis, Joshua Brand, Joel Fields, Sarah Nolen, Stephen Schiff, Justin Weinberger, Joe Weisberg and Tracey Scott Wilson.
Bill Hader and Alec Berg won the episodic comedy award for the opening segment of HBO’s “Barry,” “Chapter One: Make Your Mark” (“Barry”). They also won the new series award.
Stephanie Gillis won the animated award for the “Bart’s Not Dead” episode of “The Simpsons” — which was just renewed for its 31st and 32nd seasons by Fox — and showrunner Alex Gansa took the episodic drama award for the “Paean To The People” segment of “Homeland.” “Bathtubs Over Broadway” took the documentary award and “God of War” won the videogame trophy.
Hulu’s “Castle Rock” won the long-form original award and “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” took the adapted long-form trophy. “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” won the comedy-variety series cagtegory.
Chelsea Peretti hosted the West Coast ceremonies while Roy Wood Jr. was the emcee in New York. “All the glitz and glamor of the Oscars without the pressure of public interest,” Peretti said in her intro.
Jordan Peele’s horror-comedy “Get Out” won the WGA Award for original screenplay and James Ivory’s coming-of-age drama “Call Me by Your Name” won for adapted screenplay last year. Both went on to win the Oscar.
The WGA awards are mixed indicator of Oscar sentiment. Six of the last 10 WGA winners have gone on to win Academy awards over the past five years. The awards are decided in voting by the 17,000 members of the WGA.
The West Coast ceremonies included plenty of political commentary. Adam McKay, on receiving the WGA’s Paul Selvin Award for “Vice,” asked for a “beat of silence” for the million people who died during the invasion of Iraq.
Jenji Kohan, recipient of the Paddy Chayefsky Award, was unable to attend due to having to shoot the final episode of “Orange Is the New Black.” She said in a taped message: “I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with enormously funny and kind people. I love the people I work with. Life is too short to work with a******s, by the way. That’s my Public Service Announcement.”

An October Day In New England
Outfit Details:
J.Crew Coat, Rebecca Taylor Sweater (last seen here), J.Crew Skirt (I also have this one, worn here), Tory Burch Boots (last seen here), Tory Burch Bag (last seen here)
Our weekend getaway in Connecticut was wonderful. We rented a house for three nights and brought my sister and mom along to enjoy the New England fall weather with us. We didn’t make any particular plans, but really wanted to explore some of the charming towns in the area, fall foliage, lakes and anything else we could find. My mom had been to this area the summer before on a road trip with my grandma and so she had a list of places she wanted to show us (like all of the Gilmore Girl spots!). This particular day in Connecticut was truly a day of exploring. We simply set off in a direction we hoped would be fruitful, pausing along the way to reorient ourselves on the map and pick a new location to drive to. This is always our preferred method of traveling, especially as photographers. We first start with a rough destination, normally it’s a town or a particular spot to eat, those are important when exploring, and try and find the most scenic route.
One of the prettiest spots we stumbled upon when exploring was Kent Falls State Park. We of course, had to stop and check it out. Since it was a Sunday, there were a lot of people out having picnics near and around the waterfall. If we would have known, we’d have packed our own lunches to bring with us to enjoy here. It’s a beautiful spot to take a break and enjoy some fresh air. A lot of the trees were already losing their leaves, so as the wind blew, the leaves would twirl and twist around the park.
Another spot we stopped by was Lake Waramaug. Our friends who live in Joshua Tree texted us when they saw that we were in Connecticut and told us to go visit the lake, as that’s where they both had grown up. We actually went out here one morning for sunrise, too, but unfortunately it was a really really cloudy morning, so we couldn’t actually see the sunrise. I still do love waking up that early though (even more so if I have a large coffee in hand). There’s something so peaceful about waking up before everyone else, when the noise and distractions are still sleeping. I love it. But back to the lake…we stopped here for a while as my sister, Lauren, was inspired and wanted to paint the scene. The colors along the water were so vibrant and beautiful.
I’ve been wearing this Rebecca Taylor sweater ever since I bought it before our trip to Quebec City last month. It’s such a great staple for a fall wardrobe. This time around, I added a little J.Crew scarf and layered my new J.Crew green coat I picked up from Nordstrom recently. I also love this Kate Spade one, along with this oversized and reversible Vince one, both in beautiful shades of green. The color has really been my go-to this season along with burgundy.
Our last stop for the day was Averill Apple Farm in Washington (the town that Gilmore Girls is based off of!) for some apple cider donuts. These were, without a doubt, the best apple cider donuts I have ever had. They were amazing! We were regretting our choice of half a dozen immediately when we got back in the car when they had somehow all disappeared. Nothing beats a hot apple cider donut on a cold fall day.
Thank you to Shopstyle and Nordstrom for sponsoring this post.

VICTORY LAP JULY 2015 FIELD GUIDE: MATT McCARTHY & FRIENDS!
Tumblr media
Guys, we’re sitting in the Dog Days of Summer. It’s super hot and vaguely miserable out, but your life hasn’t totally gone to shit just yet. Come seek solace from the wasteland environment of Los Angeles with another awesome Victory Lap show.
And in case you didn’t know, we’ll be at The Virgil on July 14 @ 8pm.
Normally we’ve got Seth W. Owen and Stu Jenkins hosting, but Stu’s going on a whirlwind musical tour of New York City with his band Warp Drive, and Seth’s still busy traversing the globe in search of new comedic knowledge. Thankfully, we have friend of the show Matt McCarthy stepping up on hosting duties, and he’s bringing along some of his funniest friends for a Tuesday night smackdown of comedic power.
Here’s the rundown on who’s coming out to the show this month ...
SPECIAL GUESTS
(In the Order I wrote them Up)
Dana Gould – You might recognize Dana from Tinkle Twins, the hilarious monthly variety show he hosts at Nerdmelt with Arden Myri, or maybe you’ve heard his voice on his podcast, The Dana Gould Hour. He’s also an incredible writer who worked on The Simpsons for six years and is constantly churning out awesome stuff. Dana’s so good he can even do an entire set on Star Wars with zero preparation.
youtube
Karen Kilgariff – If you were at our show last month, you’ll remember seeing Karen kill it on guitar with her musical collaborator Drennon Davis. Needless to say, we were pretty eager to have her back. So eager that we’ve got her two months in a row. Hopefully that doesn’t make us seem desperate.
Tumblr media
Brent Sullivan – Like all our other guests, Brent Sullivan is super funny. But there’s something that sets him apart from everyone else on the show – and that’s his next level hacking skills. Thankfully he’s using them for good as a crusading NSA whistleblower, who’s definitely a lot better than Edward Snowden.
youtube
Jesse Popp – We’re pleased to have Jesse with us this month at The Virgil, and glad he could squeeze us into his schedule. Between writing on Conan and his standard performances, Jesse also just recorded a new stand-up album in New York. So, he’s been kinda busy. Thankfully he’s got time to swing by for all you wonderful Victory Lappers.
Tumblr media
Vince Averill – And rounding out the line-up is none other than the incredibly funny Vince Averill. If you’re a wrestling fan, you’ll definitely want to check out the We Watch Wrestling podcast he co-hosts with Matt McCarthy. But besides loving wrestling, Vince’s is a serious pro who’s toured all over the country with his sharp jokes. In other words, you’re gonna like him.

THEMATICS:
Wrestling -- Are you ready to rumble?
Independence Day -- It may be 239 years later, but the United States is still pretty cool.
Minions -- These guys are like modern day Looney Tunes, and if you mock them your dark soul does not know the meaning of fun. Stop being an asshole.
Women’s World Cup -- Four goals in 16 minutes sealed the deal for the U.S. National Team. I don’t have a joke for that, it’s just amazing.
THIS ONE GOES OUT TO:
This Monkey Who’s Also a Tattoo Designer
They say if you give a thousand monkeys a thousand typewriters that they’ll surely type up some Shakespearean quality stuff. But apparently if you give one monkey a bunch of paint and some weirdo’s back, it’ll design an abstract tattoo. This is so stupid it actually worked.
