Hello everyone and happy Monday to you all! Hope your week has started off well. It’s book haul day! In this little haul I’ve added to my VMC designer editions with Black Narcissus and The Dud Avocado. Black Narcissus follows the disciplined Sisters of Mary as they have a palace bestowed on them that was formally used by the General’s harem. Now an English gentleman depends on them for help. However his charm and insolent candour is disconcerting… My copy of The Dud Avocado is a little battered as I bought it second hand but I couldn’t find a new copy anywhere. This story is the timeless portrait of a woman hell-bent on living and all her comedic and romantic adventures as she flees America for Paris in the 1950’s. Finally, I couldn’t resist this little pocket book for £1 from Penguin. Drawing on Baldwin’s own experiences of prejudice in an American violently divided by race, these essays blend the intensely personal with the political to envisage a better world. Hello everyone and hope you’ve had a great week! Today I’m sharing three more books that I’ve been lucky enough to get my hands on recently. I started collecting the Vintage Modern Classics Designer Editions and of course, I couldn’t stop at a few, I’m adding to my collection bit by bit and these are the latest two editions, A Far Cry From Kensington by Muriel Spark and My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier. Another older book that I couldn’t resist was Clare Chambers first novel, Uncertain Terms. I read her recent Women’s Prize longlisted novel, Small Pleasures recently, completely fell in love with it and was determined to read her entire backlist of works. Hello everyone and happy Friday! I’m still so grateful for taking photos in advance as unfortunately I’m still poorly and mostly confined to my bed. Ah, the joys of chronic illness! 😅 I talked on Monday about wanting to get the whole Virago Modern Classics Designer Editions and these are four more gorgeous ones I managed to get my mitts on. They are: The Birds (and other stories) - Daphne du Maurier. This is one of my favourite books, I always recommend it! Jamaica Inn - Daphne du Maurier - another of my favourites and the second book I read of hers after Rebecca. The Magic Toyshop - Angela Carter - unread but I have read and enjoyed the author before. I love this cover so much! The Enchanted April - Elizabeth von Arnim - unread, one I hadn’t heard of before now but I’m excited to get to.
