Way Back Wednesday * 1885 - Here is a residence at 1822 Cherry Street, Toledo, OH * Here is a photo of the two and a half story, modern gothic revival, Wright-Harvey House, and residence of Henry Kahlo in North Toledo. * Henry Kahlo was the son of Henry Kahlo and Dorothea Rhein, born 19 Nov 1836 in Flotz, Germany. He married Anna Von Behren on 2 Apr 1858 in Defiance, Ohio and settled in Toledo, Ohio. * Henry was a hardware dealer and later in life a Toledo Medical College Trustee. * The Kahlo-Wright House (pictured) was build in 1882-1883. Toledo's finest surviving house from the early 1880's, designed by D.W. Gibbs & Co. Architects, was built at the cost of $14,000. * The overall design was restrained, but carved stone, fine interior woodwork and stained glass windows, some painted with birds, made this home a showplace. * The home, itself, was not particularly happy. Henry and his wife Anna had twelve (12) children and several died, including Orville, at the age of 10. A grandchild who was brought to the home for a visit also died there. * Henry left Toledo, Ohio in 1892 to potentially escape creditors. * Henry and Anna were divorced and the house was sold off. Anna passed away in 1896, and Henry passed in 1903 and both were buried at opposite ends of the family plot in Toledo, Ohio. * The Kahlos were related to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, and one cousin wrote to another, "I think I met Frieda... she married a communist from Mexico, Diego Rivera,. He tried to draw a picture in Detroit but it had Lenin in it and was rejected... Frieda could still be alive in Mexico, but of course I wouldn't want to know her." * Notice the carriage house?
