Happy New Year everyone! In January I’ll make a recap series of 2022 for me to remember what had happened in 12 months. I start with my debutalbum „Heartware“ what has been a giant step in my career but also personally. Although there have been some offers from other labels i decided to release it on my own label @bungalo_disco with the help of my partner Tania. Without her Heartware would not be as nice and cool as it is. She spent lots of time, love and energy in designing the cover and booklet. The most important point for releasing it on my own label was to have 100% creative control and freedom in any step without making any compromises or having discussions. Although it was a lot of work from the very first note till bringing the final product into the stores worldwide it was absolutely worth doing it exactly this way. Another important decision was not to put it out on spotify, itunes, amazon, etc. in the first step. At the moment it’s available on vinyl on bandcamp, physical recordstores worldwide and digital recordstores as well. Besides that it’s available on cd and tape and as digital download exclusively on bandcamp. Thank you @robertdrewek and your team from @dbh_music_distribution for making an amazing distribution job to have this album in stores worldwide and for believing in Bungalo Disco since the very first record! MUSICIANS I ENJOY FOLLOWING ON SOCIAL MEDIA #6. Besides leading @thedecemberists, @dullandwitlessboy (Colin Meloy) is married to @carsonellis who is an artist/illustrator/designer/mom/goat-haver and they’re both good at Instagram and maybe other forms of social media but this is where I see them. Carson gives the clearer picture of life at their house, and did the lettering and illustrations for this excellent #vinylcoverart. Got this album when I saw an affordable copy (looks like it got dropped on its edges slightly) because every time I hear the song “Make You Better” on a radio or restaurant PA I’m struck at how *good* it sounds—the production and engineering as well as the songwriting and arranging: when Colin and the backing vocalist really lay into the chorus it’s just gaw-jus, gaw-jus. And often on the album strings come in like musical servo motors all whirring and thrumming with purpose, really beautiful and full. LIVE ALBUMS, cont’d #12. It’s Friday of a short week. There are donuts. People are working so I have it kind of low volume, but it’s got some fine Friday, uh, jams on it. Life During Wartime, Psycho Killer, The Great Curve, Don’t Worry About the Government, I Zimbra, and the Al Green cover I took the little video of, of course, Take Me to the River. (Many of which Byrne played last summer when he swung through town.) I generally prefer the studio versions or Stop Making Sense versions, but it’s Friday and these serve the purpose. And I love the cover. The photos of them in the New Jersey living room have always looked like something I want to do.
