i've only briefly ventured into TUI web browsers (one of the few GUI components i've resigned myself to), but i have some thoughts on the following:

Lynx (old af but still maintained) - i had a harder time w/ this than when i started learning vim. minimal support outside of raw html

Links (also old but a nicer experience) - works fine but again minimal support outside of raw html

ELinks (Links fork) - use this instead of normal links. it supports some basic CSS and ECMA (JS standard) scripting

browsh (text renderer for headless firefox) - idk if it's still maintained, but you get cell-style approximations of graphics. it essentially renders what firefox sees to a terminal.

w3m (a more modern experience) - proper image rendering, tabs, context menus, etc. idk if it supports any kind of JS though

there's also the Emacs web browser, though ik a lotta people use w3m inside their Emacs instead.

i'd say try ELinks and w3m and see which you prefer ?

Firefox is also dependent upon Google for funding, so within a couple years the dominant browser would be w3m -- functionally annihilating both css and client-side Javascript

Monitor Audio Creator - a new series of built-in acoustics

The British company Monitor Audio, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, presented a new series of built-in speaker systems Creator at ISE 2023 in Barcelona. Innovative developments have made it possible to create installation solutions with even better sound quality and more convenient installation.The Monitor Audio Creator series consists of three levels of models. Such a hierarchy allows you to create a sound system of any complexity, absolutely logical in structure for both the installer and the end user. Monitor Audio's Creator line includes 19 models: 14 in-ceiling and 5 in-wall.

When creating speakers of the Creator series, the feedback and wishes of installers around the world participating in the Monitor Audio affiliate program were carefully analyzed. Technologies, materials, possible use cases and even model indices of new speakers help to achieve predictable results with minimal effort and maximum efficiency.

One of the important innovations implemented in Monitor Audio's Creator line of built-in speakers is the Quik-Link cable switching system. Anyone who has dealt with the installation of built-in speakers knows how difficult it is to hold a speaker in your hands and at the same time connect a speaker cable to it. The Monitor Audio engineers have made this task easy. The terminal block of the Creator models is removable. A cable is connected to it, and the block itself is attached to the column at the final stage using a magnetic lock.

Another example of facilitating the work of installers was the second-generation Tri-Grip recessed speaker mounting system in the mounting hole. In addition to ease of installation, this system provides a more secure fixation than the system of the first version.

The Creator series includes four models of built-in speakers in the Controlled Performance modification. These speakers are made in cases, so their sound quality is not affected by the presence or absence of preliminary acoustic treatment of the installation site.

An important feature of the new Creator series was that, while maintaining the same landing dimensions, Monitor Audio engineers managed to place larger speakers in the speakers. For example, instead of 6.5-inch drivers in previous generations of built-in speakers, Creator speakers are equipped with 7-inch drivers, and instead of 8-inch drivers, speakers are used an inch larger. According to the caliber built-in speakers Creator are divided into three classes: 5, 7 and 9 inches. The diameter of the mounting holes in this case is 173, 218 and 250 mm.

Also in the new Creator series, models are divided into three levels according to the technologies used. At the basic level, low-frequency drivers and tweeters created using C-CAM technology are used. In high-frequency radiators - with a Uniform Dispersion waveguide. This class can be roughly compared with the Bronze series of home speakers in the Monitor Audio corporate hierarchy. Models a class above are equipped with bass drivers with RST II technology. There is also the possibility of additional adjustment of the frequency response. This class of “inserts” can be correlated with the Silver series of home acoustics. All Creator built-in speakers of the first two levels are made in a two-way configuration.

The third level of the Creator line of built-in acoustics consists of three-way models with RDT III low-frequency drivers, a technology developed for the third generation of the flagship Platinum series. In addition, a Dual Concentric II coaxial midrange/tweeter is used here.

The in-wall model W3M is THX certified. The high frequency range is served here by the MPD II Hale transducer. In addition to the ribbon tweeter, an RST II midrange driver and a pair of RDT III low-frequency drivers are installed here.

The system of model indexes of the new Creator series has become an example of clarity and simplicity. The first letter in the index determines the installation location: wall (W) or ceiling (C). The next figure determines the technological class of the model - from the basic first to the top third. This is followed by a letter identifying the caliber of the AC: compact (S), medium (M) or full size (L). And finally, "optional" letters, separated by a hyphen, describe additional functionality. These are regular box (CP), combined 3 in 1 model (T2X), fixed installation angle (A) and so on.

An important point - in addition to models in a standard box (SR), all ceiling speakers of the first and second levels have an installation depth of less than 4 inches, and the third level - less than 5 inches. At the same time, the installation depth for wall-mounted speakers is only 85 mm.

Many browsers today are gigantic resource hogs, which are basically VMs for various web applications. On the other hand, Links is a HTML browser. It is not able to do everything. It allows me to avoid most distractions and control the content-experience. The goal of this exercise is not to force anyone to use this browser, but just to be watchful and conscious of their hypertext based internet usage (one might use gopher, and this phlog is available there, but probability tells me that a person reading this reads this from hypertext source and I am sure they are lovely).
