This year - after a lot of back and forth with Rob - we ended up doing the WABDR instead of the ORBDR - partly because Justin and the seattle crew already knew the route and they were planning on it anyways.
The only tricky part for doing the WABDR vs. the ORBDR is that we had to haul ass all the way up to Seattle instead of Bend, OR - where we were initially thinking of starting the ride.
It was an epic 7 days of Moto riding and no major mishaps - but great stories fueled by weed, mushrooms, scotch & toblerone!
we just picked the guys up from their successful completion of WABDR 2021! b cut his foot open really bad loading his bike into the truck for the drive home. we're talking pools of blood. 🤕

Days 5 + 6: endless stunning scenery riding the #wabdr these past two days. Just rolled into the great white North and should be in Banff by tomorrow afternoon. Looking forward to some hiking and a break from the bike. https://ift.tt/2wU9Mek
got a text update from b while i was out back supervising the dogs. one of their WABDR travel companions forgot all his gear at home and needed to fly back to pick it up which delays their start by a few hours. 🤦🏻♀️ hopefully this doesn't set them back too long. 🤞🏼 i absolutely do not want the guys riding in the dark. 😡 i asked b to send me gps loc whenever they stopped for breaks or called it a night so i always knew where they were. google maps share makes this easy across all makes and models of devices. avg gps accuracy is about 3 meters. (attached is this morning’s gps loc test)
Most of us know Stuart online. Some are fortunate enough to know him in person. I couldn’t NOT visit him!
Of course we took bus pictures. Lots of them. But we cara-bussed up some mountain around sunset, so we were in a hurry to beat the stars.
And beat the stars we did! Even after we had to pull my damn steering column in the parking lot because SOMEONE took my key out of the bus while it was running.
Then we met some crazy local kids on a night photography mission. Stuart gave them the “indiana Jones” tour of the backroads, hitting this kind of stuff at 30+ miles per hour with a cliff on one side……
But in the end it was well well worth it. We hiked out to a vista point where we all made great photographs and better friends.
