Mujeres y ciclismo en la época victoriana

Anduve buscando sobre ropa para andar en bici y me apareció de casualidad cómo se vestian las mujeres para andar en bicicleta allá por el 1800, con faldas y vestidos, porque obvio las mujeres tenian que andar atapadas y LAS MUERTES ocasionadas, además de la entrada a ropa más práctica para el deporte como un avance en la igualdad de género.
El articulo dice: Los periódicos de la era victoriana informaron (y tal vez sensacionalizaron) de mujeres ciclistas que morían debido a enormes faldas que se inflaban y oscurecían su vista, o vestidos que envolvían sus pedales. Una carta publicada en el Daily Press en 1896, por ejemplo, comentaba sobre la muerte de una ciclista: “Creo que fracasó porque no podía ver los pedales, ya que la falda ondeante los ocultaba de su vista y tenía que buscarlos a tientas. Si hubiera echado un vistazo momentáneo a su posición, habría tenido una buena oportunidad de salvar su vida”. 
En el artículo recién citado los periodistas decian:
'La mayoría de los accidentes de tráfico les ocurren a mujeres ciclistas, y debemos decir que, en nuestra opinión, a menos que una mujer posea un nervio extraordinario, y además sea una experta al volante, las calles de Londres no son un lugar para que ella se dedique a andar en bicicleta... Después de ir en bicicleta al pueblo todos los días, la escritora se siente convencida de que en muchos casos los padres tienen la culpa de permitir que las niñas viajen entre el tráfico.Probablemente la bicicleta haya sido comprada para la joven en su declaración a papá de que puede ir al trabajo y ahorrarse las tarifas. Sea como sea, muchas de las jóvenes con las que nos cruzamos de camino a la ciudad parecen bastante incapaces de sortear el tráfico, y sus padres, si tienen respeto por la vida y la integridad física, deberían insistir en que sus bicicletas se utilicen en el caminos rurales para la recreación solamente.'
Y bueno yo pensaba cómo estas criticas que se les hacian a las mujeres ciclistas son las mismas que les han hecho a las automovislistas. Y da la sensación que este cuestionamiento de la mujer y su capacidad para hacer tal o cual cosa... son de allá lejos en el tiempo pero sirve tambien pare presguntar por la actualidad porque en el mundo hasta hace poco hay/habian mujeres que no pueden andar en bici solo por ser mujer, porque se cuestiona su moralidad. Una vuelta ví una pelí Arabia Saudí llamada La bicicleta verde (Wadjda) de por allá 2012 de una nena que quiere una bicicleta para poder competir con su amigo en igualdad de condiciones, pero eso de tener una bicicleta siendo mujer esta/ba re mal visto allá pero bueno a pesar de eso ella pelea por consegui su bici. En términos de (no tan ) actualidad, recién en en 2013 se volvió legal para las mujeres saudíes poder andar en bicicleta, e incluso entonces, solo en ciertos espacios públicos, en presencia de un tutor masculino.
Y yo me acuerdo que como mujer y ciclista me re atravesó la historia porque me hizo acordar que yo cuando era chica si pude tener esa bici verde, nadie me cuestionó que yo pudiera andar en bici, parece algo tan naturalizado y algunas no han tenido esa posibilidad en su niñez.

The now US-based Al Mansour returned to Saudi this week – having finished shooting the Netflix series Florida Man in North Carolina – to be feted with an honorary award at the inaugural edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival.
