ive been spending a lot of time with natalie rose lebrecht’s album warraw recently. it seems to construct its own mythology by the sounds alone. the intertwining motifs (both lyrical and musical) throughout the album create a beautiful dark forest of an environment, dense and deep and dark, where one would have to light a torch in order to see their own feet. these torches sprinkle the woods like fireflies, like the drumming in the album. there is a war, sometimes feeling like a playful game of capture the flag, other times a brutal fight with arrows and spears. always, though, this war is drowned in fog and smoke, with the firefly torches like eyes through the darkness.
