semi-detailed warrior cat name generator! (i added some very small updates)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i went and made some small adjustments to my warrior cat name generator (semi-detailed version) 🎸💥
updates:
(new!) added alignments (e.g., lawful good, chaotic evil, etc)
added "dilute" as a possibility to fur colors
fixed some typos in the names
added a few more life lessons + deleted redundancy ones (e.g., "have fun" and "learning to lighten up" were pretty much the same concept, so i kept "have fun" and removed the other one)
⭐ you can check out the generator here over on perchance!! as always, feel free to use this tool for creating your own OCs, for warrior cat roleplays/groups, or as a resource for inspiration! i'll add updates to it every now and then ^_^

Warrior Cats Prefixes - B - Part 6 [Borage - Branch]
the names listed here are my own personal headcanon names that I use when in reference to the canon Clans. Others are free to use them and you're free to disagree with the ones I use, but in the end they're the ones I personally like to use.
this list is liable to change as time goes on and my ideas change.
there will be around 5-8 prefixes per list. Some may have more, some may have less, but the general range is about 5-8.
/ / / / /
Borage
Borage- as a name comes from the borage herb, which is an herb used in the Clans to help queens produce milk, bring down fevers, and sooth belly aches and tightness of chest. Borage, as it is an herb, is known to all five Clans. It is considered an uncommon name, though it is common in its favored Clan - WindClan.
Type: nature // subclass: plant [this name denotes that it is based off of a plant or something that is considered plant-like]
Requirements*: with the borage being a plant, it has many parts. Many parents choose to name kits after the sky blue flower, meaning they lean towards gray kits.
Others choose brown or gray, to fit better with the stem and leaves.
Canon Examples: None
Random Examples [non canon]: Borageclaw // Borageslip // Boragewater // Boragewish
/ / / / /
Boulder
Boulder- as a name refers to massive rock fragment, which aren't often found in the Clan territories - but are familiar with locations like mothermouth and the mountains. These massive stones are known to all five Clans and is considered an uncommon name.
Type: nature // subclass: earth [this name denotes something related to the earth/ground]
Requirements*: Most cats agree that Boulder- cats need to be big. When it comes to fur color, however, some believe gray cats are fitting for Boulder-.
However, there are those who wish to use brown. Even a rare few give the name to ginger cats!
Canon Examples: Boulder [warrior of ShadowClan] // Boulderfur [warrior of WindClan]
Random Examples [non canon]: Boulderfern // Boulderhawk // Boulderstripe // Bouldertooth
/ / / / /
Bounce
Bounce- as a name comes from the movement, where one gives hop in place. Bounce-, when it comes to kits, is often given to kits who are notably squirmy or restless. If a parent waits long enough, they may give the prefix to their most active kit. With this being a movement name, it is known in all five Clans and used uncommonly without preference.
Type: movement [this name denotes movement/activity and is often given to kits who aren't named the day they're born]
Requirements*: Bounce- is given to excitable, squirmy, and/or active kits.
Canon Examples: Bouncefire [warrior of SkyClan]
Random Examples [non canon]: Bouncefeather // Bounceleaf // Bouncerun // Bouncestep
/ / / / /
Bracken
Bracken- as a name comes from the bracken plant, which is a tall fern with course lobed fronds. These plants cover large areas and in the UK they thrive best in woodlands. That being said, this is quite the common plant, in fact being one of the most common plants. It is also a common name used in all five Clans, with ThunderClan, ShadowClan, and SkyClan using this name the most
Type: nature // subclass: plant [this name denotes that it is based off of a plant or something that is considered plant-like]
Requirements*: with plant names, gray and brown tend to be the most common colors - golden-brown especially due to the golden-green leaves. Some say that cats with course fur or cats with scruffy pelts embody the perfect Bracken- cats.
Canon Examples: Brackenfoot [warrior of ShadowClan] // Brackenfur [warrior of ThunderClan] // Brackenheart [warrior of SkyClan] // Brackenpelt [warrior of RiverClan] // Brackenwing [warrior of WindClan]
Random Examples [non canon]: Brackenbloom // Brackenlight // Brackenpatch // Brackenseed
/ / / / /
Bramble
Bramble- as a name comes from the bramble plant - which is a wild vine or shrub that is part of the rose family. It most famously includes blackberries and raspberries. Brambles grow abundantly all throughout the British Isles and as such is a plant that all five Clans know well. It is a common name that isn't favored by any Clan.
Type: nature // subclass: plant [this name denotes that it is based off of a plant or something that is considered plant-like]
Requirements*: Bramble- cats are commonly brown, black, or ginger - brown matching the bark and both black and ginger matching blackberries and raspberries. Very rarely is white used to resymbol the small white flowers.
Canon Examples: Brambleberry [medic of RiverClan] // Bramblestar/Brambleclaw [leader of ThunderClan]
Random Examples [non canon]: Bramblebelly // Brambleglow // Bramblestone // Brambletoe
/ / / / /
Brambling
Brambling- as a name comes from the brambling bird, a member of the finch family. They are widespread birds who are often found in large flocks. The males are notable in their black heads and orange chests while females look similar to other chaffinches. They are common prey for Clan cats and are known in all four Clans. That being said, all Clans except RiverClan favor this uncommon name - in fact it's almost considered rare in RiverClan.
Type: bird [this name denotes a type of bird]
Requirements*: Brambling- cats tend to be brown, though tortoiseshells with the name aren't unheard of. Funny enough, these cats tend to be the reverse of the coloring of actual bramblings - with tortoiseshell mollies being named after male birds and brown toms being named after the females.
Canon Examples: None
Random Examples [non canon]: Bramblingcoat // Bramblingleap // Bramblingscreech // Bramblingwing
/ / / / /
Branch
Branch- as a name comes from the 'arms' of the trees in which leaves grow, birds make their nests and rest, and cats climb. Not just trees have branches, though the word often invokes the thought of trees in most. Branches are, of course, known in all five Clans. However, the name itself is surprisingly considered uncommon - though it is just over the fine line between common and uncommon names and it tends to fluctuate because of this.
Type: nature // subclass: plant [this name denotes that it is based off of a plant or something that is considered plant-like]
Requirements*: Branches, like trees, come in all sorts of colors. Still, brown is considered fairly common for Branch- cats. Even then, some say that Branch- works better for cats who will grow to be tall or cats with long tails. This is considered 'up for debate'.
Canon Examples: there are two rogues named Branch, but they are not listed as Clan cats
Random Examples [non canon]: Branchcloud // Branchleap // Branchswipe // Branchtail
*requirements are not actually required, but simply the most common attributes associated with the name. Often honor naming ignores these requirements, but these are still more like loose suggestions than any hard-set rules

I gave the Undertale cast warrior cat names
Ft. Translations into clanmew, which is from @bonefall and @troutfur
Frisk - Kindlepaw (Kagnampwyr)
A former kittypet who joined the clans out of curiosity, Kindlepaw was named for their striking tortoiseshell markings (being brown with patches of deep, fiery ginger, the most prominent of which being a heart-shaped marking on their chest). However, they initially regretted their decision, thanks in part to their immense dislike for combat and hunting. Eventually, they found success in acting as a forager of sorts, successfully locating a bunch of prey and herbs during a particularly harsh leaf-bare. Full name will be the honor title Trailblaze (Shofiswarfyf, “path has burned”, after the fact that they managed to create their own path in the clan without learning how to hunt or fight or become a cleric).
Flowey/Asriel - Flowerpaw (Ponmapwyr)
A golden and white tom who seems to hate everyone and everything, Flowerpaw is the only surviving child of Lightseed and Loststar after an accidental forest fire. Having lost one of his legs and all of his siblings, he went from kind and loving to a jaded jerk. Thankfully, his mentor seems to be helping him through his issues, and he’s slowly been growing nicer over time. Full name will be Flowerbloom (Ponmamwar, “flower will bloom”, after the fact that he’s working through his trauma and the hope that he’ll be able to heal from it).
Toriel - Lightseed (Shayuhi’i)
A white molly with striking pink eyes, Lightseed was named for the fact that she was always interested in kits and tending to the nursery, to the point she immediately got with the first tom she liked and became a permanent queen. She had at least eight kits, spread across three separate litters. Unfortunately, she lost all but one of them in a fire her mate accidentally caused. She never forgave him for that, and even temporarily left the clan so that she could deal with her grief without having to see her ex-mate. She eventually returns with Kindlepaw, who she adopted once she processed everything.
Sans - Bluebone (Luparbaben)
A small and round cat who is quick to crack a joke, Bluebone was named for the bone-like markings on his fur. While he tends to laze around camp like he’s lived there forever, nobody knows exactly where he came from, and he’s always quick to dodge the question whenever anybody asks. Some theorize that he is kin of the disappeared cleric Boneberry (Babenlepe), given their resemblance, but nothing has ever been confirmed. He mentors Kindlepaw, teaching them about the things clan cats do besides hunt and fight.
Papyrus - Redbone (Reybaben)
A tall and lanky cat, Redbone was named for his bone-like markings just like his brother. Unlike his brother, he’s always looking for work to do, whether it’s around camp or all throughout the territory. Part of this is likely to come from the fact that he was made a warrior late due to failing his first assessment. Despite that, he always tries to keep a positive outlook on things no matter what, believing that even the worst cats can change. This is why he was given Flowerpaw to mentor, much to everyone’s (including his own) surprise.
Undyne - Scaleclaw (Weeshkach)
A blue and ginger tortoiseshell with a large scar on her face, Scaleclaw is the current deputy. Fiercely loyal to Loststar, she is quick to lose her temper and attack, even without orders. This gets tempered whenever she’s with Redbone, an odd friendship born when they were both just kits. She’s been given a dishonor title previously for her temper, though (Floodstrike, or Worrlkubo, for how she tended to attack indiscriminately and ruined a diplomatic visit because of it).
Alphys - Lichenheart (Aweewababun)
A small golden cat, Lichenheart is currently the only cleric, having taken over after the disappearance of Boneberry. However, her connection to StarClan is incredibly weak, to the point that she often fakes signs to make herself look more skilled than she actually is. Her biggest shame is getting a large number of her clanmates killed with one of her false signs, though because she’s the only cleric she’s too afraid to come forward with the worry she’ll be forced to step down and leave her clan without one. However, she’s technically already breaking the Cleric’s Vow by being in a secret relationship with Scaleclaw.
Mettaton - Halfmask (Kanochpihaba)
A tall, silver tom with distinctive black markings (the most prominent of which being one covering half of his face) and quite a few scars, Halfmask is a very handsome tom. Being a former outsider, he was invited to join by Lichenheart, who created a set of leg braces for him due to the fact that he was having a hard time walking without being fully paralyzed. He’s definitely quite the showoff, especially after discovering that he was incredibly attractive by clan standards. That being said, hes also incredibly loyal, often being the first to leap into action during a crisis.
Asgore - Loststar (Mwiskshai)
The current leader of the clan. Despite his imposing size and heavy scarring, Loststar is really a big old softy with a heart of gold. He used to be called Goldfluff (Rreenpfefi), the kind deputy and mate of Lightseed. However, when he was trying to get a cooking fire started, he somehow managed to set his tail on fire. In his panic, he causes the fire to spread and ends up destroying the entire camp and killing most of his children (as well as the leader). As penance, he takes on the name Loststar as a self imposed dishonor title when he claims his nine lives. He doesn’t blame Lightseed for leaving, nor does he get upset upon seeing her come back with Kindlepaw.

Note
i think that my ocs Featherfell and Northlight would obliterate the traditional naming crowd on impact
although tbf the latter does have an in-universe reason to be named that (her mum was a kittypet & picked up some non-clan terminology, also on a meta level the whole story has a north motif)
i have like... two or three ocs that actually fit the rigid traditional naming scheme, if that. and they're all either from Brown Dry Bush Clan (brushclan) or... named mouseheart. which is an insult in-canon (funfact hes the reason it's an insult in this universe! his main defining character trait is being a bit of a coward & not brave enough to finish the fights he impulsively starts) and also he probably wouldn't be deemed worthy of the cool fancy 'heart' suffix if youre gonna argue that angle. so that probably wouldn't fly
Ok but Northlight's a cool name and that's perfectly reasonable, y'know??
Also Featherfell is an excellent name, says Tumblr User Bonefall, known Fall Enjoyer.
Like, get the hell out if those names aren't good enough, those names are great!

Warrior Cats Prefixes - B - Part 5 [Blue - Bone]
the names listed here are my own personal headcanon names that I use when in reference to the canon Clans. Others are free to use them and you're free to disagree with the ones I use, but in the end they're the ones I personally like to use.
this list is liable to change as time goes on and my ideas change.
there will be around 5-8 prefixes per list. Some may have more, some may have less, but the general range is about 5-8.
/ / / / /
Blue
Blue- as a name comes from the color blue, which is well known for its calming effect. While cats themselves can't be blue, gray and blue-gray cats fit the name quite well! And, if a parent waits long enough for eye color to develop, Blue- can be used for a blue-eyed cat. With the name being a color, it is known in all give Clans and is considered a common prefix.
Type: color [this name denotes a color, even if it exists as both a color and a separate item]
Requirements*: all Blue- requires is some sort of blue - be it fur or eyes [though Blue- cats being named after their eyes is less common].
Canon Examples: Blue Whisker [warrior of ThunderClan] // Bluestar/Bluefur [leader of ThunderClan]
Random Examples [non canon]: Blueheather // Blueleaf // Bluespark // Bluewisp
/ / / / /
Bluebell
Bluebell- as a name comes from the bluebell flower, which are named for their color and unique, bell-like shape as it hangs downward off of its stems. While considered woodland plants, bluebells can grow in many places - from open fields to shaded forests. Because of this, bluebells are known to all five Clans. Despite how common the flower is, however, Bluebell- is considered a rare prefix.
Type: nature // subclass: flower [this name denotes a type of flower or things associated with flowers]
Requirements*: Bluebell- as a prefix really only requires gray or blue-gray fur, though sometimes it's used to denote blue eyes.
Canon Examples: Bluebellkit [kit of ShadowClan]
Random Examples [non canon]: Bluebellcloud // Bluebellpool // Bluebellsky // Bluebelltail
/ / / / /
Boar
Boar- as a name refers to the wild boars mentioned in the story of Rage and Fury, the boars that were fought for LeopardClan to lay claim to the river that runs through the old territories. While there are still boars around, most cats tend to name their kits after the figures from their mythology. With the story of how LeopardClan claimed the river being a common tale, it is known to all five Clans. That being said, it is a rare name, though it is favored by RiverClan, surprisingly enough.
Type: mammal [this name denotes a type of mammal or something associated with specific mammals] // lore [this prefix comes from stories told to the Clans and has never been seen by a Clan cat]
Requirements*: Boar- cats are commonly both large and brown, much like the boars from the legend. Of course, some parents prefer to give the name to a large kit more than a brown one.
Canon Examples: None
Random Examples [non canon]: Boarbite // Boarnose // Boarrunner // Boarspeckle
/ / / / /
Bog
Bog- as a name refers to bogs, which is a type of wetland that is formed when a lake fills with plant debris with plenty of peat-moss deposits. While bogs are a location, they can commonly be associated with the color brown. With all location names, the Clans are aware of them, even if they don't have them in their current location. This makes it known to all five Clans, even if it is an uncommon name. It is favored by ShadowClan and RiverClan.
Type: location [this name denotes a location - either a location that has color associations or a location that is sentimental to the one[s] who have given the name]
Requirements*:
Canon Examples: None
Random Examples [non canon]: Bogblaze // Bogcreek // Bogscreech // Bogsprout
/ / / / /
Bold
Bold- as a name comes from a parent hoping for a bold or brave kit. This tends to be given to kits who are curious/inquisitive at a young age or those who take charge during games. Like all 'hopeful' name types, this doesn't mean the kit will be bold/brave and are often given during the two moons a parent can wait before naming. While this name is known by all five Clans, Sky strongly favors this name.
Type: hopeful [this names denotes hope for a cat's personality traits, which is considered a controversial naming scheme as one cannot guarantee a child's personality]
Requirements*: this name can be given to a kit who shows curiosity or the parents perceive a lack of fear in their kit. Some even give this to kits who are especially loud, thinking that it will mean their kit will be a bold speaker when they're older [it does not].
Canon Examples: None
Random Examples [non canon]: Boldfang // Boldheart // Boldsong // Boldstrike
/ / / / /
Bolt
Bolt- as a name comes from a bolt of lightning and is considered to be akin to Lighting- and Thunder-. With it being a weather-related name, it is, of course, known to all five Clans. It is considered a rare prefix in all Clans except ThunderClan, where it is simply an uncommon name. It is, unsurprisingly, favored by ThunderClan.
Type: nature [this name denotes a natural phenomenon or something that can be found in nature that encompasses more than one type of plant life]
Requirements*: what Bolt- requires depends on who you ask: some warriors believe Bolt- cats need to be white or have white streaks. Others believe that Bolt- needs to be ginger, like the fire that sparks from a bolt's touch.
There are even those who believe Bolt- simply just needs to be a tabby, preferably those with sharper stripes.
Canon Examples: None
Random Examples [non canon]: Boltcloud // Boltglow // Boltjaw // Boltshade
/ / / / /
Bone
Bone- as a name refers to the bones in one's body. While no one knows who started using the name, it is a common theory that it started in ShadowClan, as it fits with their naming system. While it is known by all five Clans, this rare name rarely sees much use outside of ShadowClan - where not only is it only very uncommon instead of rare, it is favored by the Clan.
Type: etc/unlabeled [this name doesn’t have a proper label, either because it fits too many or because it deals with specific types of naming, rather than what it is]
Requirements*: Bone- cats are widely accepted of being white or having white markings. Some parents specifically use it for kits who are born with white faces, as they nearly resemble skulls.
Canon Examples: None
Random Examples [non canon]: Boneleap // Bonepatch // Bonequill // Boneshine
*requirements are not actually required, but simply the most common attributes associated with the name. Often honor naming ignores these requirements, but these are still more like loose suggestions than any hard-set rules

Firestar without "Fire Alone"
Alright so I know I disappeared off the face of the earth for a while about my warrior cats rewrite but it was for good reason. I've been having A Crisis.
I've been trying to deconstruct Firestar into a more consistent character, one worthy of the change he's supposed to bring to the clans. But it comes back to this. Ultimately, he is "chosen" (let into the clans) because Starclan approves of him through prophecy.
I've been trying to walk around the question myself. But maybe I shouldn't be. Maybe the real question should be: How does Firestar end up a part of the clans without ever having the support of a prophecy? And can that even be done?

What’s In A Name?
I have been having a lot of funky cat thoughts lately and I have a lot of issues with the lack of culture in the books. Little rambles like this might become a lot more common. Tonight's topic of interest surrounded Clan names and their bearing on relationship and respect amongst Clanmates.
I like to think names, being very important parts of Clanlife, are also very important in showing respect and affirming relationships.
Apprentices often have their names shortened just to the prefix, "Holly" or "Briar" or "Swallow" as a means of familiarity or camraderie. This is especially noted between mentors and their charges or apprentices who den and train together. Groups of apprentices are referred to as a whole simply as 'paws.
Warriors, on the other hand, are entitled to the use of their full name, as their suffix is earned and personal only to them. Only those with very close bonds, such as parents, denmates, mates, or close friends reserve the right to call them only by their prefix or suffix alone. To do so without a close bond is to disrespect the warrior you're speaking to, and the right to shorten the name may be revoked at any time.
You never shorten an Elder's name, nor a Medicine Cat, as they are highly respected members of the Clan and should be treated as such. The rule also extends to Queens, though this is unspoken.
A Leader's name is often seen to be revered and rarely spoken aloud in conversation, though some leaders forgo this rule, finding it pompous or otherwise alienating from their Clanmates.
It should be stated there are exceptions to every rule like any;
Squirrelflight and Leafpool for instance,
Never refer to each other by full name outside of gatherings, and if they do it's practically more disrespectful in their eyes.
Firestar never understood the reverence of Medicine Cats, and therefore always referred to his informally despite warnings not to.
But honestly, how was he going to stop calling his daughter 'Little Leaf' or his former apprentice 'Cinders' just like that? Eventually, his tendency is seen as more endearing to his Clan than disrespectful, even if a few more choice members might have a thing or two to say about it.
Bramblestar, on the other hand, is very keen on respect. Perhaps to a fault.
His refusal to shorten Squirrelflight's name at all, even during their closest moments, was more hurtful than she assumed it should have been.
Especially when Bramblefake began to shorten it instead.
