Survival Arts supports all womxn, children, and families facing various forms of violence — from people in the community to relatives, to society at large. We create a space for those of us who have never felt comfortable or safe training, especially when it comes to martial arts or any kind of fighting style. We denounce ALL abusers, especially those who hide in plain sight within our communities, in instructor and ownership positions. Unfortunately, most Kali/FMA training spaces are owned and run by toxic men exploiting sisters to serve their own interests. We stand by all our sisters, mothers & daughters who are a blessing in our space, not merely just another subject of colonization and exploitation, by our very own people. Thank you to everyone who stands with us and AGAINST abusers in the fighting arts and in the world. So this is what happened in South Africa today. Womxn all over the country took the day off work and joined together to protest the fact that we are too often the victims of gender-based violence.

I'm glad this is happening. So fucqing glad. But I'm also heartbroken that it's taken us this long because how many womxn and girls have we lost because we acted too late? And I am aching in my soul that it took yet another vicious attack on a young girl to spark this outrage.

No, let me correct that. The outrage was there all along. But we have finally had enough. We, as womxn, have had enough of being the victim of men who think they are entitled to us, our bodies, our minds and our souls.

I was in a store when this started. One of our major radio stations (94.7 Highveld Stereo) read out a list of names of womxn who have lost their lives to gender-based violence. I see now that it was only an hour long. It felt like a lifetime. Do you know how many names you can read in an hour? There were so many that couldn't be included simply because there were too many and that horrifies me in ways I don't want to explain.

I can include so many links to #weremember articles. I can include so many links to articles written before this current anger started. And I will tell you now. That is not even a drop in the ocean when it comes to just how many womxn we have lost to gender-based violence.

You think womxn don't report abuse in the rest of the world? Try living in a country where no one expects the murder of a prominent citizen to be solved and even if it is the killer will get maybe 5 years in jail. Then tell me how many womxn actually report abuse of any shape or form?

I could wax lyrical about this, but instead, I'm going to steal my brother’s words. He has always wanted to bet a superhero, and I wish he was. Because men like him are the reason I have hope for the XY chromosome and the ONLY reason I can agree with someone who says "But not all men."

Enough is enough ladies. Now is our time to fight. They claim that we are the weaker sex, but I have pages and pages and pages of womxn who have proved this to be a lie again and again. Now, in the past, and you can be damn sure in the future as well. Womxn are warriors, goddesses, amazing creations capable of feats that no one can believe.

So now we stand and we take back what is rightfully ours. The dignity, the respect and the credit we deserve. And if they will not give it to us, then we will claw it from their cold, dead hands like the vicious, merciless, all-powerful womxn that we are. And any who try to stand against us can go straight to hell, with compliments of the bitches who have had enough.

Oh and because I think it’s so damn relevant I’m adding this in.

This post is about Iceland. It was nearly brought to its knees when all the women decided to take the day off from everything. Try to tell me again how womxn aren’t essential.

This #WarriorWomxn is all fire. @kelseyrosetort has done SO much good in this world, she is funny, and it just feel good to be around her!! Kelsey inspires me with how many epic things she’s accomplished. She’s the co-founder if a non-profit that aims to make the healing arts more accessible to all (basically my home away from home, @innersensehealingarts, where I host the moon circles). She leads the community choir there and also teaches yoga. She is co-creating an astrology podcast (@sagymoons). And she’s studying astrology and will be hosting two workshops coming up!!! Oh and that’s on top of her full time job as a high school music teacher!! I mean, what does she not do? Kelsey is truly a Super Woman / Wonder Woman and I’m so grateful for the positivity she is bringing into this world.
