What do you grow at home? I wish I grew more but we all have to start somewhere. It seems like there is always more I can do at home to reduce waste, but small steps are better than none. 👍 . GOING PLASTIC-FREE AT HOME: In some areas, curbside ♻️recycling will accept metal clothes hangers. Unfortunately, most recycling centers are not prepared to handle the pointy edges of the hanger that can easily damage their sorting machines. Before placing any metal clothes hangers in your recycling bin, please confirm that your program accepts them. . Keep in mind, plastic and wooden hangers are much less likely to be accepted in your curbside bin. . Just because your local recycling program accepts “scrap metal” or “all plastic,” think twice before just dropping those clothes 👗👕👚 hangers into your bin. . Double check with your recycling services to make sure they can handle them otherwise your entire recycling bin may be dumped into the trash pile. 🏹THE STATS: ❗Only 15% of the 8-10 billion plastic coat hangers produced each year are recycled. ❗The remaining 85% usually end up in landfills. ❗Most plastic hangers are made of #6 plastic (polystyrene) or #7 plastic (polycarbonate). ❗Once they’re in the landfill grave, they’ll take upwards of 1,000 years to breakdown. ❗Break down means leaching toxic chemicals like Benzene and BPA into the soil. 🤒☠️ . #Repost @jane_and_simple (@get_repost)・・・#zerowaste or #lowwaste hair care! What's your routine? My go-to is Plaine Products shampoo, it works great for my hair and it smells divine. But I won't deny, it is pricy. . I had the privilege of trying out @wastefreeproducts 's new shampoo & conditioner bars. I have incredibly fine hair. And the water in D.C. is hard. That combo means that every shampoo bar I've tried didn't work over time, except for a lemon shampoo bar from Lush. Off top of of my head (heh), I can count 6+ bars that I've tested out. They always went from shampoo bars...to regular soap bars. The Lush bar worked really well, but I started losing a lot of hair. And I'm not about to go bald at 27. In all honesty, I expected @wastefreeproducts to not work for me. . This shampoo bar gets a nice lather, really cuts through hard water minerals and dirt/ oils without stripping my scalp, and left my hair light and shiny. Despite containing #sustainably sourced coconut oil, the shampoo bar wasn't heavy on my hair. I used the conditioner bar on my ends and the sections of my hair that get frizzy. The conditioner also didn't weigh my hair down or make it greasy! I've also paired the shampoo bar with a diluted vinegar rinse, and my hair felt so happy! . Needless to say, I am very impressed with these bars. 🎉 They come in a #compostable clear wrapper with a little instructions + ingredients card. The owner, Angie, is always looking to improve her products, her packaging, and her shipping process. I gave her all my honest feedback on the bars and she's always so receptive. (FYI she's been looking into safe options for shipping some of her products without wrapping!) I highly recommend you try out these bars if you are looking for a #packagefree shampoo.
