“No problem-o,” said Gordon as Scott signed off. He cracked open an eye, looking at the ladder directly ahead of him.

“Maybe one problem-o,” he muttered, leaning forward as though that could lift his leaden feet off the ground.

He stumbled forward, catching himself on the ladder before he remembered the elevator on the other side of the room and dragged his tired, aching body to the giant mechanism.

There was no handrail, and so Gordon sat down in the centre, wondering vaguely why the world had begun to spin.

“Gordon, turbulence ETA is three minutes, I need you up here now,” said Virgil’s terse voice. “Where are you?”

“Lift.”

“Lift?”

“Yeah,” said Gordon, his tongue starting to slur his words in his exhaustion. “Can you call it? I… I can’t do both.”

Virgil didn’t waste time asking questions, and the elevator shuddered around him as it began to rise. The roof opened to the cockpit above with a shhht and Gordon raised his head as a hand reached down to help him up.

“Damn it, Gordon, you’re burning up,” said Virgil, his forehead furrowed as he looked Gordon over. “When did that happen?”

Gordon could only shrug and grab at Virgil as Two jolted beneath them.

“Virgil, I can’t pilot her from Five, not in this weather,” called John. “Get him in his seat and take over.”

Virgil nodded, a tight look in his eyes as he deftly bundled Gordon into the co-pilot chair.

“Okay John, I have controls.”

Gordon let his head loll to the side, allowing the gentle vibrations of Thunderbird Two lull him into an easy rhythm. He blinked slowly as he watched the lights flashing on the dashboard, knowing that despite the motion, he was safe in Virgil’s capable hands as he flew them home.

Home, he thought dreamily, imagining the soft pillows that awaited him and the warm blanket that would alleviate his chill.

Nearly there.

As soon as Virgil had a spare moment, he glanced worriedly over at Gordon, softly snoring in his seat. His flushed cheeks were pressed up against the side of his seat, his open mouth drooling slightly.

He sighed, knowing his brother wasn’t in any immediate danger, knowing also that Gordon had been the one who had decided to keep his illness to himself.

“Idiot,” he muttered. “Next time, just tell us. I already have to worry about Scott and John, you can’t be pulling this crap too.”

Gordon snuffled unaware as he tried to burrow deeper into the unforgiving chair and a sudden shudder wracked his body.

Virgil reached for the shiny emergency blanket he kept tucked away in a pouch and reached over to tuck it around Gordon, his hand lingering as he brushed the damp hair back.

“Sleep well, Gords,” he whispered.
