At a lab appointment rn but !! Simon w/ reader gf🥴🎀
🩷. Always down to go bookshopping as soon as reader runs out of new books. She doesn’t even have to ask, he’s checking her goodreads, checking her TBR and keeping an eye on when it gets low.
🩷. Takes her to her favourite bookshop, or the best and biggest in town, I’m talking Piccadilly Waterstones type - he will be happy to wait as long as it takes for her to find the books she wants.
🩷. Ofc he carries all the books she wants to buy, sees how many hardbacks he can manage like it’s some kind of PR at the gym.
🩷. This man will pay for everything, but! Only on the condition that she explains what each book is about so he can look at the bright smile on her face and the glint in her eyes when she does.
🩷. Definitely is on some kind of mailing list so he knows when all the best new releases are coming out, will so casually bring it up in conversation to see the way she lights up.
“Did you see that X is releasing a new book soon?”
“Thought we could take a trip to Waterstones to pick up that new release from X? I heard they’ve got signed copies and everything.”
🩷. Gets reader a subscription to some kind of bookish box for her birthday, watches the way she sprints to the mailbox when it arrives.
He’s also so attentive when she talks through each little thing in the box and why it’s relevant to the book etc. He doesn’t really get it, but anything to see his girl happy.

A new genre of book signing photos, in which I attempt to balance too many things in my lap at once. Shoutout to Waterstones Piccadilly, Traf Sq, and Covent Garden, and Foyles Charing Cross Road, as well as Gay's The Word, for the wheelchair accessibility. Negative shoutout to Hatchards, whose display tables made the walkways too narrow to navigate in a chair and whose lift was out of order (but the booksellers did at least fetch my book for me so I could sign it).
I hadn't planned to use my wheelchair during the launch party itself: I needed it for visiting bookshops earlier in the day because I can't walk that far these days, but I thought I'd be able to manage the party with just my cane. Turned out that my massage on Thursday, while it did wonders for my tension headache, didn't actually cure my BPPV and so I'm still suffering from the kind of vertigo that makes me feel like I'm perpetually on a boat. Oops.
Fortunately, my chair is extremely cool and matches my author vibes impeccably. Although it has disadvantages as well, I'm so glad that I decided to buy one: it was watching several friends and new acquaintances benefit from wheelchairs and other mobility aids that made me realise I was, in fact, allowed to do that, even if I didn't need to use it all of the time, and maybe I would be able to have more fun if I wasn't triggering a major pain flare every time I did anything.
I am very tired today, but in no more pain than usual, and that is something I had stopped thinking was possible.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much to my agent Jessica Hare for pushing me around London for 3 hours (RIP to the tourists' ankles we took out in the process), and to everybody who came to the launch party.

Hi! Could you please write another Brandon Flowers x British reader? Maybe reader takes him to the UK and they travel around and he’s intriguied but experiences some culture shock? :)
Like a Different World
Tumblr media
‘Maybe after dinner, we could go and see a show or something? It’ll be nice and dark and no one will be looking at you, no one will be paying any attention to us, it could be nice,’ you suggested as you and Brandon walked down the Mall, Buckingham Palace looming in front of you.
‘You don’t want anyone paying attention to us?’ Brandon joked, squeezing your hand lightly. This was the first time since the two of you had started dating that Brandon had been able to come to the UK, so you were making the most of it, making sure to show him all of your favourite places. So far, you’d shown him Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus (mainly for the huge Waterstones where Brandon insisted on buying you as many books as you wanted), and now you were heading down to one of your favourite places in the city; St. James Park.
‘The only person I ever want paying attention to me, is you,’ you replied, a smile clear in your voice as you turned your head to look at him.
Brandon gave you a grin in response, bringing your interlocked hands up to his lips for a second before letting you guide him round the corner into the park. You loved this park; loved how people were there for all sorts of reasons and you always found the duck pond a perfect place to sit with your book and a coffee.
Moving to a patch of grass secluded but not too far from the snack bar, you laid the blanket on the floor before you sat down, frowning slightly when he didn’t sit down with you. ‘I’m going to go and get us a coffee, did you want anything else?’ he asked, readjusting his disguise that consisted of a cap and a pair of sunglasses, making you laugh lightly.
‘Surprise me,’ you replied, grinning up at him. ‘And hurry back,’ you called out as he started to walk away.
By the time Brandon came back, you’d read a couple of pages of one of the new books Brandon had brought you but as soon as you saw him coming towards you, you put the book down, confusion filling you when you saw the sheepish expression on his face. ‘What happened?’ you asked, taking the coffees from him so he could sit down. Placing a tray of chips down in between you both, Brandon began to speak.
‘So, I might have forgotten where we were for a second and I ordered the coffees but I didn’t know what snack to get. But then I saw different kinds of chips behind the woman serving me so I thought I’d get a couple of packets for us and I asked for some chips. But instead of giving me a couple of packets, she gave me a tray of fries. That’s when I remembered that you name everything wrong over here but I didn’t want to look stupid, so I took the fries.’
You couldn’t stop the laughter erupting from your lips when he finished talking, knowing that that’s usually something that you do when you’re in the States. ‘It’s you that name everything wrong,’ you insisted, moving to lay down on the blanket, resting your head in Brandon’s lap as his fingers automatically weaved through your hair. ‘It makes sense that they’re called crisps because they’re crispy.’
‘And fries are called fries because they’re fried,’ Brandon replied and the moment his words left your lips, you knew that he actually made a point. Reaching over, you grabbed a chip and held it up between you.
‘Agree to disagree?’ you asked in a sweet voice, making Brandon laugh.
‘Deal,’ he said, leaning down to take the chip from you.
