Simon is 10000% the type of guy who goes to the shelter with his daughter to cheer her up when she's sick or her mom goes away and she's fed up, not at all expecting to leave with anything, maybe a hamster or rat at the most.

That said, when his kid sets her very big brown eyes on a three legged, one eyed ginger cat who most certainly isn't the Belgian Malinois Simon has at home, how is he to say no? Cats aren't exactly rocket science, and he's sure his wife wouldn't mind - if anything, she's well versed in taking care of strays, given the circumstances under which they met. And, of course, he'd do anything for his daughter. Anything. Even if that means becoming the parent of not only a little girl who knows exactly how to get what she wants out of him, but also a very naughty cat.

You can't remember the last time you saw Caitlyn's shoulders anywhere but around her ears, like the cloak and uniform she now sports weighs so heavy she's no choice but to hold it upright, for fear of it slipping. For fear of her control slipping. On Piltover, Zaun, and herself. Her blue hair looks almost black against the dim library lighting, less vibrant than it had once been, like someone had taken a starless sky and bottled it. Her cheeks are hollowed, bitten raw inside with how often she has to hold her tongue. Any earnest, trusting youth she'd once worn like her heart on her sleeve has long since faded. There's no need for words when you come and stand with your cheek rested between her shoulder blades, a silently offered comfort in the otherwise intimidatingly vast library. It forces her to relax, and you feel her breaths evening out into a rhythm that could actually be considered healthy. "Come to bed." You plead, after minutes of standing there in stifled silence - you sometimes wonder if she's more likely to actually listen if you bring her back into her own head, rather than letting her conscience drift between battle maps and Stillwater admissions forms.

"I ca-" She goes to protest, but your arms winding about her waist like insistent pythons waiting to tighten if she tries to escape promptly stop her.

"Please. Let me look after you." In truth, and you know it's selfish, but it's been weeks of you left to your own devices, with only a hand between your thighs to satisfy the ache there, and there's nothing you'd like more right now than to feel Cait's warmth and hear her sighing with satisfaction rather than stress. You're embarrassingly desperate, and you know that she knows you well enough to practically smell the hunger coming off of you in waves.

"Okay." Caitlyn relents softly, turning in her chair, allowing her the perfect angle to pepper soft kisses up your bare throat and the skin revealed by your scant nightgown, tactically chosen as an attempt to seduce her attentions back to you. It would seem that Commander Kiramman isn't the only tactician within the vast confines of the manor, after all.

When Simon retired, he'd initially thought that he'd pursue interests he enjoyed during his military career. He'd believed that with the opportunity, he would spend countless hours in the gym, running or at the shooting range. More mundane interests were never what he saw himself engaging in.

More specifically - bird watching.

He'd developed a genuine obsession with it. Having moved out of the city, the birds were one of the first things he noticed. Over the following weeks, he'd spent time getting to know the calls of the birds living and nesting near his house - and then picked up an encyclopaedia on English birds coincidentally at his local charity shop. One he didn't intend on actually reading, that said. Then he'd noticed a woodpecker going at one of the trees at the foot of his garden, and only checked the book to see when it'd be going. Or so he'd told himself.

Simon would never confess the fact that he actually found solace in sitting on the bench at his backdoor, with a set of secondhand binoculars, his book and a notepad. He definitely didn't intend on making it a habit, either.

But, of course, he did, Actually, he loved it - loved the reminder that the world carried on around him, and even though his life had ground to a halt, the seasons changed and the world kept turning. The birds kept singing and building their nests, and in the spring, the chicks would hatch and learn to fly, and everything would carry on. With or without him.

I like to think that when Simon eventually settles down, he marries a slightly strange, mildly autistic super genius who's known for just sort of knowing everything. They're the one person forced to sit out in pub quizzes and asked how to word or spell things correctly when the guys are writing work emails. Their whole thing is knowing something about everything.

Or, most things, at least.

Simon soon learns, that whilst his spouse is killer at trivia and knowing stuff, that's about as good as it gets.

"How do I write a cheque?" Leaves him literally baffled, perhaps even more than the one time they'd revealed to him that they didn't know how online banking worked.

"It tells you - on the paper."

"Yeah but - I don't know my bank details." They respond to his incredulity like an adult not knowing their own bank details is the most natural thing in the world.

"What do - how do you get paid without knowing that?"

"My dad set it up for me - I just figured the money goes in every month."

The sudden realisation that his partner is deadly serious hits Simon like a truck. If they don't even know how to access their bank, how have they done taxes and paid off their credit cards?

"And when the money goes out - like, say, when you pay your taxes?" He questions with anxious patience, sitting opposite them at the kitchen table.

"I thought you paid our taxes."

"But I thought you paid them. That's been like your one job since we got married."

He signs them up for one of those old people online banking courses like a week later.

Getting married had not been on your agenda for your trip to the UK, not at all. In fact, you'd never considered getting married at all. You'd been sent off on a work visit, with no intentions besides a quick in and out - do what you need to and get back home.

Simon Riley had, of course, been a thorn in the side of that plan. Not only had you somehow got on like a house on fire (a rare thing for anyone to do, according to Price), but you'd actually found yourself reluctant to leave. The two of you had managed to bond over a mutual hatred of your respective homes. You, despising the arid heat of the Middle East in comparison to the moody grey and green of England, and him, the concrete base on which he lived.

The marriage comment you'd let slip one night at the bar, a few too many drinks in after the others had left, was a complete accident - a joke and nothing more. What you hadn't been expecting was for Simon's attention to be piqued. For him to say that it might just work.

You'd be the recipient of spousal benefits, and he'd have an excuse to move off of his rudimentary base accommodation. That, and you were one of the few people he could actually tolerate, why should he faff about dating and making empty small talk when you're right there?

Of course, he'd maintain that well into the months after you'd walked down the 'aisle' of the courthouse, despite the fact that everyone could see the way he was growing utterly infatuated with his new wife, marriage of convenience and all.
