#we don’t see Gai tell Kakashi Yamato was kidnapped
Text
People so desperate to hate on Kakashi that they’re going to blame him for not caring about Yamato when he gets kidnapped/post war
When absolutely NO ONE cared about Yamato because the writer didn’t care 🙃🙃🙃

There’s literally so much about Kakashi’s characterization/training that I would change if I had any choice in the matter.
Kakashi gets Yamato right from day one as a co-sensai. I don’t give a crap if other Sensei’s do it on their own, Kakashi was in a terrible place mentally even after being out of Anbu for a few years, and could have used the help from someone who was likely to remind him to focus on the students equally/help him train them when he needed to zero in on one students training in particular.
Kakashi would actually have training scenes with Sakura. Not just training Sakura when she was with the boys, but one on one like he had with Sasuke and Naruto. Teaching her Taijutsu, showing her certain skills that would be useful to her, training her with the dogs. FFS Kiba got more one on one training with him than his own student because of Kishi’s sexism.
Kakashi would be recognizes as socially awkward and not have that viewed as him just being a pervert/creep, but would actually have people go ‘huh, weird but ok’ because he’s not great at interacting with people but he’s not intentionally trying to be gross. (Like Naruto think Kakashi is ‘flirting with/coming onto him when he says ‘you’re just like him’ (in regards to Naruto’s similarities to Obito). It should have been a ‘huh, who are you talking about Sensei?” Moment rather than ‘Lol this guys just being unintentionally creepy’ thing
Kakashi would actually get to be shown worrying about Tenzo, one of his closest friends, when he was kidnapped and made a prisioner of war. And after the war we would see him (even just in the background or in mention) supporting Tenzo in some way.
We would get to see Kakashi actually invite/tell Gai that they’re moving in together. His worry and protectiveness over Gai after the war would be clear and the first time we hear about/see it would be in the manga/anima and not in a side book or a much later vacation arc with Gai.
Kakashi would get to show his soft kind side with his friends more often. Hanging out with Gai in passing, being close and kind with Tenzo more often (rather than just being a big bully which is all good and fun but like..let them have soft friend moments gdi)
We would actually get to see him process and accept what happened to Rin, and move on from it for the first time in years.
He would pay attention to all of his students, even if it’s in varying times/amounts. We would get to see him talk to Sakura more without Naruto, Sasuke or Sai being there. We would get to see him having cute sensei moments with all of his students. He would get to grow into being a sensei and opening up to his students more.

Heya! Can you do a piece on how difficult it is for Kakashi to acknowledge his feelings for given how much he's suffered in the past? Like he's afraid of falling in love/rejects love. Thanks in advance :)
Hey, hey, I’m back! I tried my hardest and I think it came out decent, I’m at least satisfied with it. Man, someone give this poor man a hug, he’s not ridiculously lovey dovey but he’s trying his best! I also combined this with another ask from an anon who wanted a longer fic with the reader as a jonin so I hope that’s okay with you. But otherwise, have fun my wonderful cracked walnut, and let me know what you think!
——————————————————————————————-
Kakashi x Reader “Trust and Love”
Kakashi wished he was normal.
He wished he could have had a life where none of the deaths that surrounded him happened. That it was just a cruel nightmare that he would wake up from and life was actually fine.
But it was only wishful thinking and it wouldn’t get him anywhere.
So he put on a smile, stayed on good terms with the people he still knew and didn’t let himself get attached to people he didn’t. Life was just easier that way, and he was more than content living it. The daily challenges from Gai, teasing Yamato and riling up his students, that was all he needed.
Though it wasn’t like people didn’t try to challenge it anyways.
Kakashi was a man shrouded in mystery, incredibly charming - at least, when he wanted to be- and a talented ninja. Most importantly, he was single. He was a popular bachelor in Konoha and thus had been hit on multiple times.
When it first started, a little while after he had been released from the ANBU, he had actually tried to reciprocate it. After all the death he had seen, both out in the field and in his dreams, he figured loving someone would be the best thing to take away all the horrors.
Time had long since made the memories fuzzy, but he remembered her smile and gentle nature. She had this quiet laugh that made the world stop in his mind when he heard it. But most vividly, Kakashi remembered her chocolate brown locks. He knew because he felt guilt whenever he saw it or ran his fingers through the strands. Everytime he looked at it, it wasn’t her, it was Rin. It was only a temporary flash, but it was enough to make him blink. She started to become the person he was killing in his nightmares, and it wasn’t long before terror struck in reality as well.
She had been kidnapped by rogue ninja who had it out for Kakashi. It had taken him a few days to track them, but by the time he had, they were already gone. But they did leave her, although severely beaten and bloody. His heart dropped at the sight of her and everything felt fuzzy until he dropped her off at the hospital. The white walls of the room felt sickening and made the copy ninja claustrophobic, but he stayed by her side. He stayed because he knew it was his fault she had been hurt. She was targeted because he had foolishly loved. But he would make it up to her, he would protect her this time.
But fate didn’t give him a chance to do so.
She had woken up, devoid of any memories and the doctors confirmed that the amnesia was irreversible. Kakashi watched from afar as she tried to make sense of everything, before he stopped seeing her altogether. He couldn’t, not after he had been the one to take her memories, her life away. Frustrated tears made their way down his face that day. He didn’t understand, how was it every time he loved someone, he ended up destroying them instead?
He was well and truly a cursed man.
Any walls that he had built around his heart prior to that incident had been fortified. He wouldn’t let anyone pass through them, and it was safer for everyone that way.
Though that didn’t stop anyone from flirting with him, he humored it without letting it go too far.
But of course, that was when he had met you.
You, a talented jonin who could just as easily keep up with him and match his skill level. Someone who was as stubborn as you were kind, and certainly not afraid to call him out on anything he did. Kakashi couldn’t remember the last time he laughed so hard until he met you.
But just as you were easing your way passed his defenses, he caught himself. He was doing it again, for the third time in his life. He was falling in love.
No, not this time.
Kakashi wasn’t going to mess it up this time. The following weeks after his realization, he stayed away from you, and if he couldn’t distance himself, then he treated you coldly. It hurt him seeing the confused look on your face, but he reminded himself that it was for your own good. This would keep you safe, and that was all that mattered to him.
But, you didn’t stay confused. No, you grew frustrated and hurt. Those emotions combined led to a confrontation in the middle of the street after yet another cold quip from the silver haired man. “What the actual hell is your deal, Kakashi?” You snapped, growling at his indifferent state.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” He responded, further riling you up.
You grabbed him by his vest to make him face you. “Oh, you know. You just don’t want to admit it. I don’t understand, we’ve been working together for almost a year and for the last month you’ve given me a cold shoulder. You’ve never done that before, did I say something? Did I make the wrong call? Spit it out!” You shout at him, he gives you a blank stare. After a minute of silence, you eventually let go of his vest to run a hand through your hair, barking out a laugh as you do. “Seriously, just my luck. I fall for someone and just when I think that maybe you like me too and this is going somewhere, I mess it up. Unbelievable…” You hiss at yourself.
You catch a glimpse at Kakashi and that’s all you need. His posture slacks, his eye softens and his eyebrow creases, as if he’s some kind of pain. “Don’t tell me, you do like me, don’t you?”
He says nothing, instead choosing to avoid your gaze.
“You do! Why are you treating me this way? I’ll have you know, most people don’t swoon for guys that are assholes to them.”
“Lower your voice, you’re making a scene.”
“I don’t care! You’ve been ignoring me for too long, Kakashi. I deserve answers.”
“…You’re right, but let’s go somewhere a little more private first.” You concede to that and Kakashi sighs in relief as he moves you both to a quiet place down the street where you can sit.
You don’t hesitate to break the silence. “Why didn’t you just tell me that you loved me?” You’ve never seen him look so grim at just one question.
He pauses, collecting his thoughts. “I couldn’t, even though I really wanted to. (Y/N), you are an incredibly intelligent, caring and determined individual. You have a bright future ahead of you, and for those reasons you deserve someone better than me.” You give him an incredulous look at his words.
“You’re all those things too, Kakashi. In fact, you’re all that and more, you have a strong and compassionate heart, which is just another one of the reasons I fell for you. In my mind there is no one better than you,” You told him as you put a hand on his shoulder.
His face shadowed and he clenched his hands into fists. “I’m just going to hurt you.” He muttered with a darkness in his voice you had never witnessed.
But you weren’t about to let that stop you. “Were you planning to hurt me if we were in a relationship?” You ask him bluntly. Your question made him look back up at you in shock and he instantly shook his head. “Then how do you know I’ll end up hurt?”
He sighed as he shook his head. “Because it always happens. If I fall in love, that person gets hurt in a way that can never be fixed. I’ve watched too many die or get injured simply because they were near me. I can’t do that to you, I need to protect you.” You nod your head to his words, finally beginning to understand his thought process.
Your face softens into a gentle and comforting smile. “Thank you for the protection, Kakashi. I appreciate it, and I appreciate that you want to keep me safe. But, there’s just one more thing I need to ask. Do you trust me?” He nods without hesitation and you place your hand on his. “Then trust that I’ve got a good head on my shoulders and that I can protect myself from the danger your love will put me in. I love you Kakashi, and I’m willing to embrace all that comes with it and come out on top with you.” You smile at him kindly, and it’s enough to almost make him fall over.
The earnesty in your voice and that smile, it means everything to him. Before he can even blink he realizes that you were always there next to his heart from the very start. For the first time in a while, you give him hope. Hope that this will work out, that he can love without destruction. He grips your hand and grins back. “Then I’m glad that I’ve got someone on my side to face it with.”

Moonlighting
I have Yamato on watch now. I know where he is. (Naruto Gaiden, Ch. 2) | Kakayama Week Day 3: Alternative Prompt (Hot Springs) | AO3 |
Sneaking in is probably ill-advised, thinks Tenzō, but he doesn’t imagine the owner of this inn would appreciate him attempting to enter through the front door at this hour. As it is, he steps off the conveniently-grown tree branch and phases through the wall into the second-story room.
His eyes land on the sleeping form immediately, and he steps forward. He manages one step before he feels the tip of a blade pressed against his back, ready to strike. The sleeping figure disappears with a pop.
Turning so his face is visible in the moonlight, he asks, “Is that a kunai I’m feeling, or are you just happy to see me?”
Kakashi stows his weapon. “Both. Evening, Tenzō.”
“Do you keep weapons in all of your robes?” He steps backward, this time, further into the room.
“Yes, in fact.” Kakashi matches him, moving forward in the same direction.
A pause. “You know, that’s a little paranoid.”
A hand on Tenzō’s shoulder, tugging him closer. “That’ll happen when people keep breaking into your room.”
The moment Kakashi pulls down his mask, Tenzō leans in to kiss him, slow and warm and full of longing. When they pull away, he says, “Thank you, for sending the kids to see me. It was good to see Naruto, and even Sasuke too. Sarada’s practically a genin now.”
“What did you think of her?” asks Kakashi, falling back onto the bed.
Tenzō follows suit. “From what I could tell, she has Sasuke’s face with Sakura’s personality.”
“Personally, I see a bit of Naruto in her.”
“Don’t tell Sasuke.”
Kakashi smothers his laughter against Tenzō. “Careful. If I sound like I’m having too much fun in here, Mirai’s sure to think I’m up to something.”
“What’s she like?”
After a moment of thought, Kakashi decides, “Kurenai’s face with Asuma’s teenage personality. Be glad you missed that period in his life. He was very tightly-wound.”
“We can’t all be cool and hip, rival,” deadpans Tenzō, grinning.
“If you say that three times, Gai will appear at my window.”
Tenzō’s eyes drift to the window, as if expecting to see their friend standing on his hands in the moonlight. He turns his head back to Kakashi. “How is the nostalgia tour going? Am I meant to believe that either of you have taken any time to rest?” Raising his eyebrows, he adds, “I’m sure it’s a complete coincidence the last inn you stayed at was near to the recent kidnappings in Yugakure.”
Kakashi averts his gaze, pursing his lips in a way that tells Tenzō he’s holding back his own smile. “Was it? Sounds troublesome.”
“Then you’ll be happy to know that I heard the victims have been returned to their village without harm,” Tenzō says lightly. At Kakashi’s answering grin, he lets out a beleaguered huff, shifting closer to his companion. An arm is thrown around Tenzō’s shoulders. “Most shinobi your age retire, Kakashi.”
“Pot-kettle,” replies Kakashi, with a defiant prod at his side. “Besides, I am retired. Why else would I be lazing around hot springs?”
“To attract trouble,” says Tenzō, entirely serious.
“Twenty years,” says Kakashi, with an exaggerated sigh, “and not an ounce of faith.”
“I have faith,” responds the other man fondly, “that you will make sure to protect as many people as you can until the day you die of chakra exhaustion. Again.” He adds, narrowing his eyes.
Kakashi holds a hand to his heart. “Low blow, shinobi. My reserves have been much better since I lost the sharingan. And I repeat,” says the former Kage, with narrowed eyes of his own, “Pot-kettle. Remind me, which of us is on vacation with his best friend, and which of us is merely switching out on his regular rotation guarding a former S-rank criminal?”
“I’m younger than you,” Tenzō tells him, unrepentant.
Kakashi traces the smile lines on Tenzō’s tired face, and his eyes close involuntarily. “Are you?” he teases. “Doesn’t look like it.”
“Are you calling me old, Rokudaime?” says Tenzō, his smile forming beneath Kakashi’s hands.
“You started it,” retorts Kakashi, but he leans into Tenzō as he says it. When his lips are by Tenzō’s ear, he goads, “Most shinobi your age retire, Tenzō.”
Tenzō opens his eyes. “I have my duty to Konoha,” he reminds the other man. There is no touch of resentment in him. Only loyalty to his village and his people, as he makes sure the children of Konoha, at least, will never be swept away in the night to a laboratory again.
“You’ve done your duty to Konoha,” says Kakashi. Equally, Kakashi doesn’t phrase it like an argument. He notes it like it’s an indisputable truth, and Tenzō can’t hold his gaze anymore.
“My duty will never be done,” Tenzō says firmly, staring up at the ceiling. Unbidden, images from fourteen years past flood his mind. And then, older images, ones he barely remembers now, but ones that are filled with green light and distorted glass.
Kakashi takes hold of his chin to redirect his attention. “I won’t deny that I still don’t trust Orochimaru. His pardon was always more strategic than sentimental. But there are new faces to take on those duties, Tenzō. Ones just as eager as you to protect the village.” There is an offer, in Kakashi’s tone, which he does not give voice.
Tenzō asks anyway. “What would you have me do instead?”
“Whatever you want,” says Kakashi simply. “Go visit some hot springs. Get a dog. Start a farm.”
Taking hold of Kakashi’s wrist, Tenzō murmurs, “Those sound a lot like your plans.” There is endearment in his voice as he says it.
“I already have eight dogs,” Kakashi replies innocuously. “And I don’t know much about farming.”
Laughing, Tenzō says, “They named you poorly, then.”
“They named you well,” says Kakashi, with a sincerity that makes his heart stutter, even after so many years.
Tenzō can imagine a life, where he isn’t a shinobi. Where he sits in the sun in civilian clothing making something good out of hard work instead of chakra. Where he visits inns like this for more than just an evening between missions. He doesn’t know if it’s possible, or even what he wants, but Kakashi makes him think about it. That in itself, seems like a task he could not have done alone.
“Hot springs, huh?” Tenzō asks pensively.
Kakashi nods. And then, with an impish grin, he offers, “I can show you these ones if you like.”

For your "Send Me a Character" could you do Tenzo if no one has asked yet? I hate that you are sick! I hope you feel better soon, Captain. I'd make you chicken noodle soup and tell you sweet MadaKaka stories if you weren't so far away.
Aww thank you berry!  You know just what a girl needs to feel better lol!  Also, I keep switching between Yamato and Tenzou, because I can never decide on what to call him.  He wants to be called Yamato, but I personally like Tenzou better, but I want to respect this fictional character’s wishes, so I call him Yamato, but then the ask framed him as Tenzou so idk here i am, floating along.
Tumblr media
First impression
No. No no nonono.  I want Kakashi.  I don’t want this whoever he is, bring back Kakashi.  So what, he can make a box and has a scary face, who would honestly be scared by that it’s dumb. He’s dumb.  Where’s Kakashi?  Why is Kakashi gone? I don’t care I want Kakashi bring him back bringhimbackbringhimbaaaaaack
Impression now
My wonderous tree child, love of my life, apple of my eye, poor, precious baby who has been abadoned by his creator and forced to become a joke while he follows around the source of his trauma, you deserved better.  This world was not good enough for you.  Sweet angel, I want only soft and lovely things for you.  Also, boy is cut.  Have you seen those arms?  Did you watch the filler episode where he’s soaking in an undergound hotspring shirtless (during the arc where they’re shipping him out with Naruto to the Turtle Island in Lightening)?  DID YOU SEE THAT?  Because that was when I started thinking ol’cat eyes was attractive.
Favorite moment
When Naruto, Kakashi, and Tenzou were at Ichiraku, and Yamato was trying to get Kakashi to pay the bill because he’s the upperclassman, and Kakashi tricks my poor, sweet, lovely, marshmellow Tenzou into paying for their meal.  Precious child, you’re too good and pure for this world.  So much love for Yamato.
Idea for a story
Tenzou and Tobirama meet.  They bond over having the same face-plate, and being practical ninja who take safety seriously.  Alright, alright, a serious one.  Tenzou was born Senju Nawaki.  Dazou (being an utter bastard) totally fucking kidnapped him for experimentation, and switched him with another baby (who becomes the canon Nawaki.  I’m going to say Orochin wasn’t a total ass at this point and wouldn’t have experimented on Nawaki for Tsunade’s sake, so Dazou never told him the truth of the child’s lineage). That is why Tenzou has the Wood Release.  Not because Orochimaru’s experiments were successful, but because Tenzou had the ability (or latent ability) in the first place.  The experiments would have killed anyone else, but the Uzumaki longevity kept him alive.  The child who replaced him and is canonically known as Nawaki died because he was not an Uzumaki (like Tsunade is, by Mito).  It made canon Nawaki unable to withstand the same levels of trauma, which led to his death at a young age.  This gets uncovered after ROOT is brought to pieces, after the war, and Tsunade and Tenzou develop the sibling relationship they should have had from the start.  It’s about mutual healing, and while Tenzou isn’t a replacement for the boy Tsunade loved like a brother, he is a chance at having a family again.  He becomes Senju Yamato, and Tsunade is always teasing him to give her nieces and nephews.  Yamato blushes redder than a tomato every time, of course. “N-n-ne-nee-sama!  D-don’t say things like that!”  "Stop it with the ‘sama,’ otouto!  Call me neechan” “bu-but Hokage-i mean-nee-sama, I can’t!  You’re the hokage!” and then Tsunade gives the hat over to Kakashi because she just wants to live a peaceful life with her new brother and also so Yamato will stop having excuses to address her as her ‘sama,’ but it’s a constant struggle.
Unpopular opinion
I don’t know how unpopular this is, but it’s the one I’ve got;  Yamato being forced to follow Orochimaru around isn’t funny.  Let me say that again for those of you in the back;
YAMATO BEING FORCED TO FOLLOW OROCHIMARU AROUND ISN’T FUNNY!
Look, I get it.  It’s a cartoon.  But the idea of having to trail the person who abused me by torturing me as a lab experiment so soon after I just finished being another madman’s lab experiment because of the shit the first guy did to me is so fucked up.  Can you imagine, having to face your abuser while recovering from another string of abuse?  I mean, he was a child, he was helpless.  Maybe becoming a ninja helped with that.  He got strong.  He can protect himself.  Never again will he be taken in by a psycho trying to use his DNA—OH WAIT HE FUCKING WAS!  He was hooked up to a crazy tree, had the life pretty much sucked out of him because of the fucking DNA Orochishitface put in him, was made to be helpless again, and now it’s cool for him to be spying on the single person responsible for everything bad that’s ever happened to him, and it’s supposed to be funny?  It’s cruel.  And yes, ok, he’s a fictional character.  I get it.  But you know what? It’s dumb storytelling.  You basically erased the character’s past for a gag.  There were a million other things Yamato could have been doing.  Have him working in the Hokage’s office protecting Kakashi.  Give him a Family and make him a Tree Dad (Shizune is single, there you go.  Let’s paste together a relationship for him.  He’s interacted with her more than Kiba has interacted with the chick they got to be his wife).  Fuck, maybe Yamato is too traumatised and so he opens an orphanage so that no children will have to go though what he did.  Maybe Yams goes on a journey to find himself, collecting street urchins as he goes.  Maybe he opens up a Flower Shop and is now Rivals with Ino because his flowers and plants are always better (she complains all the time over him ‘cheating’ and sends Sai out to sabotage him.  There are constant mini-wars between the Yamanakas and Tenzou.  He’s usually ahead, because any damage they cause to his store he can rebuild in a second, while they actually have to rebuild (or wait for Yamato to feel guilty enough to fix it for them—Sakura is always trying to convince him to leave it; anything to one up Ino).  Maybe Yams starts growing herbs and stuff for the hospital?  Maybe the story I mentioned in the last bit comes to pass.  I don’t know, but I just thought of those on the fly and they’re already better ideas than being forced into a “comedy” routine with fucking Oroshitfucker.
Favorite relationship
We don’t really get to see many of his relationships except with Kakashi, so that wins by default.  I do like that they both kind of saved each other—Kakashi saving Tenzou from ROOT was just as important as Tenzou saving Kakashi from himself.  Both of them were drowning, smothered by traumas and hurts and just shitty fucking lives, and then they rescued each other.  So it started off very balanced between the two of them, they were on even footing.  Of course, Tenzou—who had never really had a relationship up to that point—puts distance between them by giving Kakashi a position of power over him (even if it’s just by calling him senpai) and kind of ruins that.  You can’t really build a steady, healthy relationship when there’s an uneven power dynamic in place.  Kakashi is always trying to get Yamato to address him without the honourific, but poor Tenzou is just like but…but…you saved me senpai I love you *heart eyes* and Kakashi is just like why do I always attract the weird ones?  What’s kind of tragic, is that Tenzou’s gratefulness and admiration towards Kakashi is was makes him want to address Kakashi as his senpai, but it’s that show of adoration and respect that is keeping Kakashi at a distance.  In this way, Yamato is the obstacle keeping himself from what he wants.  Poor tree man :’(
Favorite headcanon
This is actually something @fineillsignup wrote (I’m pretty sure?  I hope so), but I love the idea of Yamato calling Kakashi ‘Hokage-senpai’ instead of ‘Hokage-sama.’  It’s cute and super Yamato and I love it.  It’s official, this is how Tenzou addresses Kakashi.  Fight me.
Here is the ask! Send in a character!  Up next is Gai, then Genma, Hidan, Adult!Obito, Rock Lee, and Ino!
Already done: Madara, Kakashi, Shino

Ship that is taboo: 💦
I’m not sure there are many Taboo ships in the Naruto fandom? I mean i could go with basic Sensei/Student ships which are friggen nasty in my opinion but we all know i hate those.
So instead i’ll go with Kabuto/Kakashi. Like clearly these two hate each other and Kabuto actively does things that hurt Kakashi (including but not limited to kidnapping Yamato) so like...eww
Ship you’re curious about: 👀
Shisui/Kakashi: I have only just been introduced to this and i have questions XD
Ship that is most misunderstood: 💢
Naruto/Hinata. I know it has fans but a LOT of people really bash on it either because Hinata ‘wouldn’t give up’ (even though she never confessed her feelings so Naruto was never able to clearly tell her if he was interested or not.)or because Naruto is ‘so gay’ (He’s bisexual GDI legit this dude thought he liked Sakura for years even as he liked boys and refused to acknowledge that he did. don’t erase that on him and he does adore Hinata. he just about release Kurima on the world because he thought she was dead)
Ship that you didn’t expect to ship but now do: 💓
Kakashi/Baki XD i was legit just messing around one day and just sort of fell in love with the goofieness of the whole thing. It was just unavoidable. i adore it now and you’re going to have to see me talk about it once in a while.
