Hugs to everyone who is upset about the news from yesterday. Our fandom is strong, the friendships we've made are stronger, and we're getting an ending, even if it isn't the one we'd hoped for. We'll be okay. And in the meantime, let's deal with our feelings through creation!

Week Twelve's Prompt is:

Stained.

Does a careless server spill some wine on a vintage coat? Do lips take on the color of the berries they're eating? Do tears leave trails down cheeks? Will someone's essence never be clean again? The possibilities are endless, but @interesting-egg and I hope to see as many of them as you can give us!

Feels Like Karma

Week #12 Prompt: Forgotten | Word Count: 483 | Rating: M | POV: Barb | Characters: Barb, Nancy, Steve, Tommy H. & Carol | CW: Language, Mentions of Off-Screen Underage Sex (Canon) | Tags: S1, Missing Scene from "The Weirdo on Maple Street", Steve's Pool Party, Barb's Hurt, She Isn't Having a Good Time, So She's a Little Salty Towards All These Assholes

She didn't even want to come to Steve Harrington's house tonight, now she's been cast aside and forgotten. What Nancy swore she wouldn't be. Barb knew better, she did, and yet she wanted to believe. Wanted to pretend that her best friend wouldn't just ditch her for Steve Harrington's oft-ridden dick.

It may not be the orgy she'd snarkily predicted, but it's still disgusting.

Nancy was wearing a new bra, even if she lied about it, like she really thought she could sit there and tell her this wasn't the whole purpose of the night? Okay, sure.

Barb wasn't born yesterday.

And maybe she should have just let Nancy go by herself. Maybe she should have dropped her off and bowed out, went home, and read her book. Because she knew that this wouldn't be fun. But she also didn't want to be left out.

Even if that meant hanging out with Tommy H. and Carol, watching them go upstairs to have sex in Mr. and Mrs. Harrington's bed, like massive assholes. And they always have been. Now that's something they should just turn a blind-eye to, like all of high school, and middle school never happened? Well, Barb won't pretend she doesn't know these people.

She doesn't have warm and fuzzy thoughts about Steve Harrington. He's not completely terrible, but he's still who he is, and that's never gonna change. He's always gonna be King Steve. Spoiled, and self-centered, and thinking of nothing but himself.

He doesn't really care about Nancy. Barb knows that, even if Nancy doesn't.

He just wants in her pants.

Because she knows Steve. And Tommy H. and Carol, unfortunately. Even if she wishes she didn't.

So, she'll sit out here on this stupid diving board and wait for Steve to give Nancy the three pumps she's so obviously dying to get from him, and then they'll go home. Go back to normal, reset the status quo that has somehow been lost lately.

Barb looks down at her hand. Her thumb fucking hurts. It's throbbing and she's ready to go home, to take something for it. For as rich as they are, the Harrington medicine cabinet was severely lacking. She had to settle for wrapping it in a hopefully clean, dish rag. 

It's still bleeding. She hopes it doesn't need stitches, because that's going to be hard to explain to her parents. Not that they wouldn't believe any lie she'd tell, they probably would, but it's the principle of the matter. Getting hurt doing something really dumb feels like karma.

Bad juju.

Still, she can't just leave Nancy here. She, however reluctantly, agreed to be her guardian for the night to make sure she doesn't do anything stupid.

Too late.

But she can wait for her to make this mistake, get it out of her system, and then they can just forget all about it in the morning.

Notes: I obviously don't share her thoughts towards Steve Harrington, lol, and I hate that Barb never saw Steve's character growth and transformation. Of course, it might never have happened if what happened to her didn't, setting so much into motion in Steve and Nancy's lives.

Designing the exegesis

I have been working on designing the exegesis since the beginning of October. I intended for the structure to be very simple using times new Roman as the primary font as it represents clear readability. I have used a grid to make sure that everything remains in the same structure throughout all pages I have included framework for the imagery presented in the exegesis as well as I wanted it to flow beautifully.

Friday - week 12

Throughout the past 5 to 6 weeks I have been developing the cover pages to be featured in the publication. I have made so many iterations and which I have developed to cater to the design system and overall message of the project. I am very happy with the finished illustrated images which feature a positive message alongside it. The main reason I wanted these pages was because I didn't want the reader to just be overloaded with text and recipes I wanted to allow the reader to have a break between recipes.

Putting it on an Indesign doc

I went and put in all my writing and all the legal stuff that go into the exegesis on my design doc. As well as adding photographs and making sure all the figures match up and are added into the contents of images.

Reflection

Writing and researching for this exegesis was actually really interesting. I learnt a lot about concepts and theories that I didn't know existed, like disability culture, and I felt that this research connected me more to my identity as a disabled person. It's really cool to think that my work fits in the world of disability arts could inspire and empower other disabled people.

Final Photography

To properly photograph my design, I set up a space at my flat and asked one of my flatmates to help me photograph it. I was pretty happy with the results, although it would have been better if I was able to get ahold of better lighting.

Having two copies meant that I was able to photograph the ripping out of the notebook and pamphlet and show off how the book functions.

Hey y'all, do you have any experience with the Visible app and arm band thing? I've been using the app for a month or so, and I think it's helping a little, but I don't have the arm band yet and I'm not sure how big a difference that will make. I think I probably should be tracking my heart rate, but I cannot overstate how much I get rings and bracelets caught on things, especially during flareups. Like getting beltloops caught on door handles but even more so, so I think maybe the arm band will be better for me?

During this week I have developed the posters to be more obvious and look more "treated" It was looking very simple at the start which was not the intention so I used more illustrations to make the poster image more striking.
