Hey, if anyone has good theories about what the hell is going on with Wen Qing's alleged ownership of a soul-sucking dagger PLEASE send me links. If true, HUH??? If not true... still HUH?? If you're doing improv about the provenance of a soul-sucking dagger, why would you attribute the dagger to Wen Qing and not, idk, Wen Zhuliu, or Xue Yang, or just stop at Wen Ruohan? I really want to love The Bear S2 because it's such a good show overall but I felt insane watching Richie's misogyny against Syd which was literally a central carrying character drama of the first season be swept under the rug in favor of giving him this radical cathartic sympathetic character development which included a really pathetic attempt to retcon his seething misogyny entirely by showing him apologizing to his wife for calling another woman a bitch in The Berzattos even though this is completely out of character compared to his behaviour in season 1. I would maybe choose to interpret that the divorce and continued stagnation of his life made him jaded and bitter and worse in every way if the theme of misogyny was ever adressed in a substantial way at any other point - but even as he apologizes to Natalie for god knows how much mistreatment over the years, Natalie doesn't assert herself beyond asking another character to watch it go down, doesn't push him to be specific beyond "sorry if I hurt you", isn't granted this golden opportunity by the narrative to show her individuality and depth by getting angry and venting her trauma and hurt like male characters are allowed to constantly, thematically, over the course of the show. She comes across as entirely an accessory to his character development in this scene because her arc is astronomically lacking in nuance and care compared to his. It should not go unmentioned either that every notable female chararcter on this show is classically characterized as a mother, sister, daughter, girlfriend or wife, not one of them unthethered to these roles.

Sometimes they forget details of lore (to a certain extent understandable considering that there are few people and a lot of mess) but sometimes it is funny and other times frustrating because you never know if it is something 'canon' to consider or simply an oversight.
