➻ aside from your seemingly contrary natures, there's also the tiny little issue that, to many inazumans, neither the raiden shogun nor ei herself seem to believe in luck. she seems very much the type to grab fate by the reins, no? in everything from the way she carries herself to the commanding voice in which she addresses her people, it appears that there just isn't any room for luck to fill in the gaps — but the many times she's had you behind her to bid her fair fortune, she always finds that she can always stand just a little taller.

➻ it's always said in jest, but yae is hard to refuse no matter the circumstances. she would absolutely detest being without you for so long doing such boring things... surely you aren't so cruel a lover as to leave her alone, are you? as much as she jokes about it (you just look so cute when you're flustered like that, after all!), her smile seems far more genuine whenever she sees you walking up those stone steps to the shrine.

➻ she always claims that her days tend to go a little more smoothly when she's with you — her workload a little lighter, her novels far more interesting, your hand in hers and a plate of good food before you both. of course, whether you're actually exercising your powers, or whether she's just pulled a few strings with her (and your) schedule, she'll always welcome you with a sly little smile, crooning about how pleasant a coincidence it is. though — no matter how strong your power may be over the little twists and turns of fate, there seems to be something almost inevitable in the way she says, "welcome home, dear. what took you so long?"

You know what silly thing has been bothering me recently? The older I get, the closer in age I get to my celebrity crushes. Now, this is completely normal and just, like, a fact of living. The problem comes when I realize that I’m interested in working on film/tv (as a wardrobe person), and given the connections I have, it’s totally possible that I may at some point actually cross paths with these people. I keep having to temper out all of these fantasy-world situations I’ve daydreamed with the “that’s probably not going to happen, it’s just a crazy hypothetical” part of my brain, but then the other part is like “well, unless... it’s actually not that crazy, you never know... 😏”, and I’m really having a time of just stringing my poor sanity along at this point 😂

WELL, knowing that, if you ever see josé pedro balmaceda pascal, please tell him to hit my line. a 27 year age gap is NOTHING😼

OUAT 4X07 - The Snow Queen

Looks like Emma’s facing a real cr-ICE-is in today’s episode!!! XD

Main Takeaways

Past

A big point in the segment is how Ingrid needs to give up the ribbons in order to get the gloves and urn. Rumple says that with enough emotional attachment, ordinary objects get magical values. When Gerda and Helga protest the exchange, Ingrid points out that the ribbons are a symbol of their love and that their actual love is stronger. The episode frames this as a poor decision, but that’s not a sentiment I agree with. While yes, the ribbons do indeed have a magical value, Ingrid’s right: Their real love is stronger. This is such a big element of other themes in other episodes (Basically EVERYTHING with Rumple dagger and the flashback in “White Out” come to mind), where symbols matter less than the power within and to see the raming reverse itself without any substantive self awareness is a weird choice. Ingrid’s fear of her powers and resolve to be a shut is indeed a problem, but the handling of this red herring solution stands out as an awkward choice. And then it reverses itself again with “we are your fail safe.” The idea of the value of objects over family goes back and forth like a tennis ball during a game of fetch.

And I can’t help but be on Ingrid’s side here. She’s not giving up her sisters. She’s giving up three ribbons so that she can have control over her magic and be able to go out in public with them, rule the kingdom, and just live her life. Their love is still there, but something that’s going to give Ingrid a tangible feeling of safety will be present too. And I feel like Gerda and Helga’s protests are nothing but platitudes.

Let’s also talk about the ending. Gerda, who shows so much love for her sister throughout the segment, grows terrified of her as Ingrid, the only other voice, testifies to her innocence to Helga’s death just before putting her in the urn. Like, had the Duke said something to Gerda either before the scene or during it, the fear would’ve worked better, but as it stands, it’s a weird shift for Gerda that works okay enough, but could’ve been better.

Present

There’s a lot to unpack here about Emma’s conflict. I can’t say that it’s improperly built up. This season and even the last finale have delicately pushed the idea of Emma’s magic still falling short in the face of a lack of a furthering of her education as well as her emotional issues. It’s usually a matter of her underperforming. This though is the first time we’ve ever seen it do the reverse. And I think it’s an interesting thing to explore. Not only is Emma new to magic, but she’s the only person in her family who has it. AND with the presence of a new brother and the Snow Queen manipulating her actions, things can get a little muddied from there. And while it is given a cursory look, there’s no focus to the why of the matter, choosing to try to be about all of these things while not diving into them. I feel horrible for Emma’s situation, so the tone of the episode is captured well and the framing does work perfectly, but the story itself is left kind of flabby.

I don’t do a worst dynamic on these reviews, but if I did, Snow and Emma would be it. Like, Jeez, Snow! Not even gonna hesitate pulling the baby back? Not gonna check on how your kid is feeling because I’m sure to some degree, you’re aware that magic is fueled by emotions? It’s a really shitty moment, but for me, a lot of what sucks about it is that while we’ve received hints about Snow’s apprehension towards Emma learning magic and the fandom has some pretty interesting theories about why Snow is so, we never hear it from the horse’s mouth. For that reason, Snow comes across as really cruel towards Emma for no reason.

On a lighter note in that regard, I used to really hate the outdoors scene with the light pole, finding Snow’s scolding of a terrified Emma to be disgusting, but upon watching it again, given the fact that Snow immediately changes her tone with Emma after scolding her shows very believable remorse. She knows this wasn’t Emma’s fault and that she needs support and love and she knows she failed to give her that. Granted, I’m not a fan of her telling David that the both of them fucked up when David didn’t react negatively to what happened and he even got into the situation to save Emma’s boyfriend (And also played a big role in trying to find her afterwards despite being injured when it really should’ve been the other way around). Like, Snow, that all was totally on you. But as for the initial outburst, I do find that it was handled better in hindsight.

That having been said, while I really dislike Snow’s reaction, I do like the pole scene by itself. It’s never wracking, has some great fast-paced editing, and is sympathetic to most everyone there. It’s as panicked as Emma feels and while I don’t like some of the buildup to that moment, I do like the moment itself and it feels earned enough. There’s a great element of tragedy to the scene too. Emma has tried so hard to overcome her walls and be a part of her family, but because her magic is out of control, she fears that she might not be able to.

As I watch this episode, I’m reminded of why I don’t really care for Robin. I swear I’m not trying to be anti-OQ or anything here, but it does infuriate me that Robin doesn’t even seem to TRY to fall back in love with Marian before getting turned down by Regina the second time. Feelings are valid and I understand that, but the fact of the matter is a person who Robin supposedly cares very much for (Even if the romantic feelings are lessened or gone, Robin would assumedly care about her as a former wife, a person, and the mother of his child) has a frozen heart and is in what is basically a coma and while the only foolproof solution to this lies with him, he’s putting in no effort to even TRY to save her by this point.

And I know what you’re thinking: He does try. At Granny’s, he and Will go over Robin and Marian’s story. And this did have me consider my stance. But the problem is that that’s all he does before just giving up and this isn’t framed as the complicated choice that it is. By all means, Robin, be happy that you love Regina, I’m not telling you not to. But acknowledge the fact that to be with Regina, you’re denying Marian what might be their best chance at saving her. (And the fact that Marian is Zelena of course isn’t a factor here as no one knew that at the time)

Because of all of this, I don’t feel all that sympathetic for his plight and I don’t find my belief that strong for the “code” he was so strongly speaking for in “A Tale of Two Sisters.” I’m with Regina -- that’s completely unfair to her as well as to Marian!

I also find myself a touch frustrated with Ingrid because a lot of the things that she comments on and acts like were her ideas are just random coincidences. I pointed this out, but the results of Emma and Elsa’s investigation haven’t been predetermined, but have resulted from spur-of-the-moment decisions that are usually made by third parties. Ingrid had no idea Emma even still had that video camera, let alone that she would play it and discover her and then investigate the ice cream truck. She had no idea that Belle would clue her into the mirror’s existence or even get that candle. And she had no idea that Emma was dealing with fear from Snow. And at some point OFF SCREEN, Emma apparently tells Ingrid about what happened at the Mommy and Me class or Ingrid brings up that she knows it. That especially irks me here. We see at the end that Ingrid did have a role to play in Emma’s bursts of magic, but because we don’t really see what it was that she did, it’s not effective.

“Sometimes even when you win, you lose.” I’m still annoyed that this is the most we ever got out Will as far as an explanation for his presence. Did Ana die? Did he get caught up in something Lily was doing, since A&E said that his story was related to Mal and Lily’s? At least now that the realms are merged, they can get back together, although their 15-ish years of separation sucks royally. :(

Stream of Consciousness

-Dude! That asshole just fucking KICKED Ingrid! Dude deserves to be BEHEADED!

-I wish the pacing was a smidge slower on this opening. Like, in just a flash, Ingrid discovers her powers, gets called a monster, panics, gets a fast speech, and then wham, things are mostly okay. Like, an additional second so that everyone could process even Ingrid’s powers or the fallen branch really would’ve helped for my money.

-It’s kind of weird how Elsa’s speech to Emma about how her family might look differently at her for her powers, however unintentional, is kind of the tipping point of this arc.

-Ingrid, I don’t want to tell you how to do your evil job, but if Emma hadn’t avoided that icicle, she’d be dead! You already have two dead sisters! A third won’t do you much good!

-Really! All three of them share a room? Granted, it’s a big room, but they’re royals! Not to mention, those beds are fulls at most! You telling me three royals, one of whom is the future queen, wouldn’t have bigger beds?

-Just saying, if I was Elsa, I would’ve followed in my little sister’s footsteps and decked her right in the schnoz.

-”...With your scary face on.” I love how Regina and Henry have that casualness to who they are! It shows how they’re grown!

-Ooh! I see some foreshadowing with Belle saving Killian from the secondary threat (The Shattered Sight Mirror)! Captain Book!

-I love that little flattered gesture Rumple makes when Ingrid calls him the most powerful magic collector in all the land. XD

-The Duke of Weasletown is a fucking creep and Helga is best character for putting him in his place!

-Ummm, I WANT A STORYBROOKE SNOW GLOBE, PLEASE!

-Loving that Rumple smile. Methinks something amazing is coming! XD Or rather, meknows something great is coming! *Rumple giggle*

Favorite Dynamic

Ingrid and Rumple. I love seeing villains interact and in this episode, Ingrid and Rumple do it really well. They act as overseeing deities playing with the chess pieces that they’ve made our heroes into through their manipulations and seeing them talk about circumstances so matter-of-factly is really interesting. I also love how they deal with each other. Watching their deal go through at the end of the episode is like watching a really interesting drug deal go down. Every action from Rumple securing the ribbons to holding onto one of them while waiting for his information to Ingrid whispering what he needs is so engaging! I always love scenes that despite the fact that I know what’s coming, I still get swept up in the action, and that is this episode in spades.

Writer

Adam and Eddy are today’s writers. I feel like this episode really needed more focus in its three main storylines. We’re given hints of character actions and through processes, but none of them ever go all the way. And I genuinely hope that I don’t sound like I’m incapable of putting these pieces together -- I promise you that I do get how these narrative points connect, but my issue is that they’re sometimes not tightly knit enough to support the big character moments and story points that they’re supposed to be able to support.

7/10. I’ve felt bad with some of these more recent reviews. Sometimes, it’s hard to communicate that despite the problems that I’m pointing out, I am enjoying myself. Like with “Family Business,” this isn’t a bad episode, but it just needs a bit more solidification. There’s a lot of cool ideas to work with here -- an examination of how Emma’s family views Emma’s magic, Robin trying and failing to recapture his love for Marian while in love with Regina, and Emma’s thoughts about her sibling come to mind. But while they dip their toes in that pool, little else is done.

FREE UPGRADES?! Clash of Clans Clan Games UPDATE!

the clash of clans unlimited resources no root game is here the clan gameshave arrived so where's my free heroupgrade what's going on fellow fans ofclash of clans that's right the clangames have arrived and they're underwaythis was my first login to check out andsure enough my clan already working hardon getting those achievements donecompleting those challenges and you cansee the maximum level right now is level4 that's what people are trying to getto now remember they did warn that thiswas kind of a shortened version of clangames they were trying to see exactlyhow fast people will get rewards ourclan doing a pretty good job just aboutto complete the final tier and you'llnotice that there are some cool thingsthat you get as rewards you get to pickone from each tier but there are none ofthe really cool ones this time so nowwe've been promised another round ofclan games around the holidays I'massuming that's like Christmas to NewYear'sthat's like holidays for a lot of usanyway so I'm guessing that in about aweek we'll see another set of clan gamesso think of this one as a dry run almostwe're just getting our feet wet findingout what it's about and the dev team isfinding out how much we like it and howactively players are participating so Iwent ahead and chose destroy Teslatowers went for the one of the higherpoint ones you can see it's a hundredpoints and so we're after Tesla's nowfor this challenge I didn't use the newhero levels and I didn't upgrade any ofthe army camps that I had I was savingthat for a jamming stream that wouldhave gone live on my channel by nowbecause this video will go after thatone even that one took place before thisone this one this one took place butanyway alright so we're trying to findan opponent and sure enough we were inthe clouds for quite a while I would sayit took about five minutes or so eventhough I'm only at 4,200 trophies or soand we found another Town Hall 11 readyfor the pickin so again we don't havethe additional troops we don't have thenew hero levelsthe lava hound of course did receive thebuff so that's the one benefit we havein this raid as if we needed any helpI'm sorry but with this raid before theupdate it was consistent two stars allthe time and three on the slightlyweaker basis you make just the lavahounds stronger and really nothing elseneeded right here and we're gonna walkthrough basis even more easily thanbefore pretty much impossible to stop atwo star I'm guessing after this updateonce you start to see the heroes leveledup a little bit and you've got the tanksthe golems in the lava hounds obviouslystronger and then the additional troopsof who needs it but will have a fewextra balloons in here after I do thisvideo we'll get into the jamming streamlater on and again that'll be on mychannel before this is so don't beconfused so yes for a clan that ismostly going to be townhall 11s thesechallenges don't really make that muchof a difference each clan member can goahead and go after the challenges butobviously for the clans that have mixedtownhall levels that are going to besome of those challenges the certainplayers cannot accept that couldn'tpossibly or it would be very unlikelythey'd have to use their entire army andfocus just on getting to the desiredstructure like an Eagle artillery for atownhall 8 to take out would be nearlyimpossible but you never know we've gotthose new bases out there once in awhile so we got down a bunch of Tesla'sin this one could not get to that lastTesla so we only picked up three sowe're gonna have to get back in thererun a couple more attacks and sureenough we just find ez base after ezbase now of course at townhall 11 thetop trophy players are going to beseeing those maxed out bases so maybeyou guys need to let me know those toptrophy pushers if there's any differenceright now but I'm low enough that I'mreally not seeing anything maybe againfully maxed out with the new walls mightmake a little bit of a difference andI'm not innovating my attack at all I'mnot using heal spells despite the factthat those multi target inferno towerswould be pretty much useless with a healspell dropped in the area so theballoons just decimating defenses leftright absolutely ravaging the villageonly one air defense left balloonsmoving through and they practically takeout every single defense in fact somethickened just about so the balloonsworking their way they've gotten theTesla's out of the way so we go aheadand run through the rest of the attackjust to clean things up because it lookslike we might get a nice clearthree-star right here against thispokeball base I'm not exactly sure whatthat is but it's kind of a cool look Ido I do think it's very aestheticallypleasing although maybe not thatfunctional so the heroes getting inthere again cannot wait to see level 50heroes but are they needed not reallybut again it gave something for TownHall Evans to do I mean I'll tell youright now you guys I have no interest injamming all those wall pieces if yourecall from the last update I stilldon't have maxed out walls from then andthere's no way I'm going to invest inall of those crazy level twelve wallsnow I mean that was a big thing whenthey released an entire new wall levelthe community went bonkers with how manymillions and tens of millions of gold ittook to upgrade all of those walls orhundreds of millions in any case sowe'll eventually work on the leveltwelve walls and I will probably getthose done right around the time theyreleased level thirteen walls which Ihear is coming around I'm kidding I'mkidding I don't think there's levelthirteen walls anytime soon but younever know what happens when Town Halltwelve comes around remember I alwayssay it's not if it's whenTown Hall twelve comes but like I saidin the previous episode it hasdefinitely been delayed by the presenceof ten more hero levels to grind throughand more wall pieces to get through notto mention the camps which most peoplewill get to first if I can provide alittle bit of obvious advice that wouldbe upgrade those camps first before youdo anything else if you want to boostyour offense even more than it wasalready boosted for you in the lastupdate all right so here we go challengeprogress completed there it is we gotthe Tesla's down and we earned somepoints for our clan there it is rightthere and you can see those points beingadded to the tally so you can gather a500 for the Klan and then the Klan isgoing to need 10,000 to complete level 4which at the current games setup is themaximum level it looks like there willbe more levels in the future I'mguessing we could see as many as 10 younever know and it's going to be a lotharder you're obviously going to have tocooperate with your clan members butlet's go ahead and run through theoverview really quickly this isimportant where the rewards are it saysthat you need to complete at least onechallenge to be eligible to pick onereward from each tier and then therewards they go to the Treasury in yourclan castle if you're wondering wherethey will be so you can see if a playerhas a challenge underway right therewith a little spinning stopwatch andthen of course you can see the rewardsbefore you've unlocked them you can seewhat you're playing for ladies andgentlemen and again you can't click onanything yet other than looking at theones that you will be eligible to pickup when the games complete the potionsseem kind of cool I especially like thisone right here the power potion boostsyour troops and spells to the maximumlevel allowed by your laboratory for onehour so that's a nice bonus for playerswho have upgraded the lab but haven'tbeen able to upgrade the troops yet ormaybe there's even a troop that theyhaven't upgraded for a long time youcould try it out and then you've got theresource potion as well so the potionsare cool but obviously players wanted tosee the really cool magical stuff andit's not listed here so again this isthink of this as the mini-games thisisn't the real deal this isn't thefull-on what we're going to see when thegames come out that we have to go overto the clan castle and take a lookclick on magic items and now you can seethe books and come on book of fightingso that one instantly completes anyongoing troop upgrade and it works inboth villages so you can pick a troopuse the book and you can instantlyfinish the upgrade building kind ofstraightforward there instantly completeany building upgrade again in bothvillages and the book of spells anyongoing spell upgrade gets completedimmediately and then the Book of Heroesprobably the one most people are excitedto see instantly complete any ongoinghero upgrade and then of course the bookof everything that is you can pickanything that's going to have to be theultimate reward the book of everythingobviously will come at the very highesttiers of Clan games accomplishments soget together with your clan and see ifyou can't get those books next VAYERA- The Wrong Type of Chessed This parsha describes the character of Ishmael, Abraham's eldest son. Understanding his personality can give us a clear and deep understanding of our own challenges. Ishmael represents the misapplication of 'Chesed'. This seems difficult because the normal translation of Chesed is kindness, but on further analysis, this does not seem to be the best translation.

In parashat Kedoshim the Torah enumerates the various forbidden inmoral relationships(arayot) and their punishments. Towards the end of this list the Torah states: "A man who takes his sister, the daughter of his father, or the daughter of his mother, and sees her nakedness, it is a chesed and they shall be cut off in the sight of the members of their people; he will have uncovered the nakedness of his sister, he shall bear his iniquity." (1) The problem with this passuk is that the description of an incestuous relationship is called a 'chesed'. If chesed simply means kindness then what kindness is involved in arayot?!

Chesed should be understood as a character trait that involves an overflowing lack of boundaries, which can manifest itself in a positive or a negative way. (2) One significant outgrowth of this is kindness in that it causes a person to want to unabashedly share with others, breaking his boundaries of selfishness. However, that is just one manifestation of chesed. One negative manifestation is that a person can lose his understanding of a proper sense of boundaries. Arayot involve ignoring the Torah's assertion that certain relationships break the appropriate boundaries. Consequently, arayot is described by the Torah as chesed.

Abraham epitomized chesed in its ideal form. This is demonstrated by the tent that he had open on all four sides. This is the ultimate expression of how lack of boundaries results in unparalleled kindness. Moreover, we know that Abraham was overflowing with a desire to give to the extent that he was upset when shortly after his brit mila there were no potential recipients of his kindness.(3)

The Sages tell us that Ishmael was also 'overflowing', but in a very different way. In this week's parsha the Torah tells us that lshmael was 'metsachek'. Rashi writes that one of the sins that this refers is that of immorality.(4) Thus, we see that Ishmael acted without the appropriate boundaries. Another result of inappropriate use of the trait of chesed is stealing. A person that does not have the correct sense of boundaries will not respect the boundaries of ownership, seeing that others' property is not outside of his limits. Accordingly, it is no surprise that the Sages tell us that Ishmael was also deeply involved in thievery.(5) An attitude of 'what is mine is yours and yours is mine' causes a person to believe that he has the right to infringe on other people's wives and material possessions. Indeed it seems that Ishmael's negative chesed was revealed to Ishmael's mother Hagar before his birth. The Angel told her that she will bear a son who will be a wild man, "whose hand will be in everyone and everyone's hand will be in him".(6) This shows that Ishmael would have no boundaries, he would be involved in everyone else's business and they would be involved in his.

We now understand how Ishmael represents the negative form of chesed, but it needs to be understood why he so badly misapplied this trait. The answer seems to be that his chesed was not acquired through avodat hamidot (self-development) based on the Torah's guidelines, rather it came as a result of genetics and upbringing. Even a generally positive mida such as chesed has undesirable offshoots if it is not applied in the correct way. For example, a person with a natural inclination to chesed may do kindness in the wrong way or quantity. He may be overflowing with chesed to friends, but forget about sufficiently caring for his own family. Or, as we have already demonstrated, he may not have appropriate boundaries for himself in various aspects of life. Ishmael inherited the mida of chesed from Abraham but he did not emulate his father in the efforts at self-perfection that Abraham evidently made. Consequently, his yester hara (negative inclination) distorted this mida to the extent that he applied it to the lowliest pursuits.

The example of Ishmael provides a stark lesson as to the importance of directing one's natural character traits so that they are applied in a positive way. The trait of chesed may not lead a person to such blatant sins as was the case with Ishmael but it can have a deleterious impact. A person with the natural trait of chesed will find it difficult to have the appropriate boundaries, therefore he may, for example, find it difficult to be punctual or reliable because he cannot set limits on his time. Furthermore, if a person does not have well-defined boundaries then he may face a great challenge in avoiding falsehood because honesty requires the ability to adhere to the boundaries of truth.

Another common failing of a person naturally endowed with doing chesed is that he expects people that he helps to be equally giving to him. Consequently, he may not hesitate to request that others do significant favors for him because he would do the same for them. However, whilst demanding that we give in great abundance, the Torah requires that we strive not to rely on the kindness of others. This is demonstrated in Shlomo HaMelech's assertion that "one who hates gifts will live." (7) Great Torah Sages were overflowing with chesed and yet they often refused to take anything from anyone else. A striking example of this is the Brisker Rav, Rav Yitzchak Zev Soloveitchik. When he was the Rav of Brisk, there were a number of children whose father's identities were unknown and whose mothers were unable to raise them. No one wanted to assume the tremendous responsibility of caring for these children. What did the poor mothers do? They would come in the middle of the night and place their children on the Brisker Rav's doorstep. When morning came and the Rav found a crying child outside his door, he brought him inside. He took upon himself the task of finding someone to take care of the child. If he was unsuccessful, then he himself took care of all the child's needs.(8)

Whilst he was overflowing in helping others the Brisker Rav was extremely careful never to accept gifts of any kind, even under the most difficult of circumstances. When he first arrived in Palestine in 1941, along with the Mirrer Rosh Yeshivah, Rav Eliezer Yehuda Finkel, they were detained in the passport control offices. The delegation awaiting the two Sages was told that they did not have the money with which to pay the poll tax of one-half to a full-lira (approximately 80 shekels) and it was forbidden to allow entry to anyone who had not paid. One of the heads of the Jewish Agency offered to pay the tax for the Brisker Rav, but he staunchly refused, saying, "Never in my life did I take money from anyone." After much deliberation, an old resident of Brisk had an idea - he entered the office and approached the Brisker Rav, "The members of the Brisker Community who have come to the land of Israel want the Rav to continue serving as our Rav. We will pay the Rav a salary just as we did in Brisk. Therefore, I want to either give or lend the Rav the money to pay the tax, which will then be deducted from his salary." "That's an offer I can accept," agreed the Brisker Rav and he accepted the money.(9) The Brisker Rav may or may not have been naturally endowed with the trait of chesed. Regardless of his natural inclinations, he excelled in the correct form of chesed and simultaneously avoided its negative aspects.

We have seen that chesed does not simply mean kindness, rather it represents the propensity for overflowing and lack of boundaries, and this can be utilized for the good or bad. Moreover, there is a striking difference between a person who has the trait of chesed through genetics or habit, as opposed to someone who develops his chesed within the lens of the Torah. May we all use the trait of chesed only for the good. ________________________________________
