Yesterday was a massive day of work, opening up the energy of the studio. Tanks to a Men&Women power together, our vision is coming through, for an avant-garde Ceramic Centre, a place in central Amsterdam where the Makers can afford to work on a weekly basis and soon become professional Ceramists. Inspired by the famous Pompidou Centre in Paris, it became clear to me that we had to keep all the circulation and the access to water and electricity on the outskirts of the 14 flexible workspaces, creating that way pure work m2 and really maximising the value of the space. The sinks and the wedging tables will stay within the periphery of 1m circulation, and will be shared, creating interaction and communion. More news soon about the rest of the plans. Been glazing and trying to make some plates, a bowl and a tiny vase. The plates, bowl and vase are blue stoneware, so looking forward to the results! I think I know the perfect glaze for these…. It has yet been another great day of creation. A lot of test tiles came out of the kiln (picture of those maybe next week….) and I tried my hand at making some seaurchin inspired planted. It is small, but I bet it can fit some nice cactus or a nice succulent with hanging bits. Next wee I think I will get some better pictures of what I have been working on. I made some big steps in my creative process, steps I wouldn’t have taken when I was graduating for the making part of my study. I tried something different. Made a french buttercup out of blue stoneware. The bottom part you fill for a bit with water and the top part holds the butter. When you store it, it can be just on the kitchen counter of in a cabinet. It doesn’t need to be refrigerated. This way, the butter stays good and spreadable without putting it into the fridge and wait for hours to be soft enough to use it. Oh, and I made a vase. This one is made out is porcelain casting slib. So…. 2nd week of having my own place to work. It is nice. Very nice. There is a lot of exchange of knowledge and everyone is just so into eachothers work. It is like a bubble where I forget the world is full of trouble. It is a safe space. Twice a week, my own times. I just love it. Today I decided to take out my green clay. Earthen ware it will be. I decided to make another green necklace again, but this time I used the gold engobe instead of a glaze. It is just te best combination ever. Can’t wait to bisque fire it and then drill out those holes. I find the holes come out cleaner when I drill them after bisque firing. (And if I glaze them, I have to make sure the holes are clean as hell!
