I haven’t felt this much hurt in a long time.

WGI announced today that all World Championships would be cancelled. This is unprecedented.

I cried my entire hour-long commute home. Uncontrollable sobbing. Because of how horrible this lack of closure is. There is no rescheduling, no later competition that we could still perform at. Our season, which began back in October, is done. Every single colorguard group’s season is done. No “one last run”, no “home show”, no “circuit championship”. Nothing.

Noone’s show was truly done. Noone’s story finished. Hundreds of productions that have been in creation since October, are now relegated to history without ever culminating in a final product.

We still had so far to grow and now no one will get to experience any of these productions again. Sure we have videos, but no one will ever get to see them in person and feel the electricity in the room.

It brings a cold stark reality to the common adage, “perform like it’s your last time”. Because it was the last time, even though none of us knew it.

Some of us will return with over abundant vigor because we can’t leave it this way. Others may be too hurt to ever come back. And others still were on their last season and will never get the opportunity again.

I am hurting, as is the rest of the performance world of WGI. All of us are crying today.

To everyone who was going to WGI

My heart goes out to all of you WGI performers unable to compete in Dayton. I know you have worked so hard, and it feels awful to have that be almost for nothing. 

Remember how far you’ve come. How much you’ve improved. How many friends you’ve made through this activity. 

If you’re aging out or are a senior, remember how far you’ve come since you started. Remember why you started. 

Whatever you’re feeling, you’re allowed to feel it. Angry, sad, apathetic, it’s okay. 

Just keep one thing in mind. 

It was always the journey more than the destination.

Hey guys this is kind of an important announcement.... I might be having to take a break from art and writing. The corona virus has taken from me one of the most important things in my entire life and I’m holding on to next week as our last show ever. Even that’s iffy. I can’t work I physically can not make myself work my soul is crushed and my spirit is gone. WGI cansled Dayton one of the things that kept me going since 7th grade... they officially called off the season this morning. MAPS is still on but we don’t know for how long.... stay safe wash your hands I love you guys.

honestly my biggest issue with corona virus so far aside from WGI being canceled and also people dying is that online school really quickly turns into scrolling myself to sleep under a comfy blanket

Due to the virus, all of my winterguard shoes and competitions have been cancelled. Especially with WGI cancelling their World Championship for try first time in 43 years. I am extremely heart broken because they were so much that I wanted to do better and I just got a new part of our show that will never be shared. However, I understant that it is a necessary action since competitions are huge. I am glad my team at least ended in 2nd place in our last show and there is always next year.

“It’s not that you didn’t realize what you had until it was gone... You knew exactly what you had, but didn’t think you’d lose it.” •••••••••••••••••••• Despite being trapped in Orlando for a few days for a cancelled #HIMSS20 Due to #coronavirus, I turned the negative into several positives. One of them was that I got to spend some time with @heyoliviaaa and her posse at @infinityperc 2. An incredible ensemble that was on a serious mission heading in to #wgi world championships. The hard thing about looking back only a couple weeks to these images now, is that they capture a talented, hardworking team of performers, educators, and coordinators working towards a common goal of excellence in this insanely competitive activity. Given the global spectacle that is taking place, World championships has been cancelled, taking away the “end of the journey” from these fine young performers. It’s heartbreaking. I know there are more opportunities for greatness, “it’s not a about the destination, but the journey”, yada yada yada... but the fact of the matter is, it still sucks. I hope the kids stick with it for another season and get the final performance they deserve. Don’t ever stop working towards your goals, world championships has a sense of finality, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s the closing of a chapter, not the closing of a book. Here’s to those who are experiencing the repercussions of this very odd year.... to chapters being cut short.
