Tool and Materials: Day 22, Tools and Materials: This is the fun part!!! What I use to make the art I make! I am a fan of BRUSHES! I have a variety of sizes, shapes, and quality of brushes. Each one has a unique way of creating certain brush strokes. I use watercolors mainly, so I have a wide variety of colors, brands, and quality. I also have inks, liquid watercolors, pens, markers, colored pencils, gouache, pastels, acrylic paint and oil paint for other types of work, especially landscapes and illustrations. I use a variety of different papers too. I have 100% cotton paper for my more serious projects. I also have 25% cotton blended paper, as well as cheaper watercolor paper for sketching or less serious projects. Each paper quality deals with the watercolor differently. Cotton is more absorbent, and cheap watercolor paper has the watercolor sit on the surface more. I hope you all try watercolors sometime. In 2005 I was diagnosed with MS and by 2007 had to give up work . I turned to sewing again to give me something to do . I made a quilt for my grandson and as each one came along another (i have 10 now ) I had people ask me to make one for them and started selling them . I then started designing them and its gone from there . The thread painting I discovered this year and I love doing them . What I Do! Day 2, Hands at Work: My hands do all sorts of different things. Mostly they hold a brush or knitting needles, but they also walk the dogs and help my family and home. My abstract work is my favorite, where I am in the process of making without judgement. I am in tune with my artistic materials, colors, and composition. I am living in the moment, and playing and discovering what will come. It brings joy to me to make something that didn’t exist before, creating beauty and joy for others to see. My landscapes, tree and flower paintings are that as well. I feel that I bring the abstract world to my landscapes. I bring curiosity, beauty and joy into the colors and compositions of these artworks. I hope they lift people’s spirits and find peace and joy in them as I do when I make them. I work mostly in watercolor, but sometimes in oils, gouache and even markers and colored pencils. I have no studio really, just my kitchen and dining room/office space. My purpose of art is to express emotion in my work and to hopefully inspired and spark emotion in others. I find that my abstract work is artistic curiosity and nonjudgmental play I need everyday. I express each piece with emotion in mind, colors and really in tuned with my artistic materials. My landscapes are my peace. I feel that nature (especially trees and flowers), bring me peace and joy. I am absorbed in the light and shadows, and color I see every day.
