Wayne Family Adventures is the emotional equivalent of a chibi version of Batman without actually using chibi designs.

Hear me out: it cleaves to a particular emotional tone (lighthearted), uses simple and bold designs, and all its conflict arcs are short and resolve us back to a baseline equilibrium. It's a nibble of favorite characters doing stuff that might gently tug a heartstring or stab with a tiny knife, but overall it's not meant to be challenging. It's meant to slot into a gap, to reference canon but not necessarily engage.

This thought is brought to you by MDZSQ and the similarities in emotional tone vs other adaptations as I watch chibi versions of my favorite say-yes-to-torture-and-war-crimes necromancer flirt with his bf while trying to keep his pseudo-kid from fully comprehending the horror of the surrounding ongoing genocide.

You know. The fluffy stuff. :)

But! Both are adaptations aka specific versions with specific goals. They're formatted for a particular audience and medium, and I for one find fascinating the choices that authors make in what to highlight and what to downplay. (It's why I like fanfic, after all.)

Listen everyone has their own metric for what good writing is and isn’t but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t get me down a little to see one of my faves dragged through the mud by both haters and fans alike on a pretty much weekly basis

#yes this is about Salvatore #I don’t mean this to say you can’t dislike or hate his work because that’s valid too #I just mean that he’s become one of those writers where it’s okay and trendy to shit on him and he’s popular enough that it’s excused #I feel like there’s a lot of irl fans who crap on him because they inherently don’t like the over-the-top rule-of-cool style that is FR #and it’s okay to not be into that side of fantasy #but you aren’t the superior reader because you love GRRM-esque super serious grim dark content #also I haven’t personally met a long running series where I loved every single book or plot point #it’s pretty normal when you look at a 40 book series to find that some arcs/books are a bit better than others #and I feel like people jump on certain books and take it as ‘see? any talent he ever had has gone down the drain’#like my dude it’s okay if you didn’t love a few of the books just skip and move on #add to that he’s a prolific writer in general and I’m sure some books got more time and effort from him than others #it’s fine and normal and not a sign that he’s the worse ever ffs #also there’s a part of me that doesn’t like comparing authors working in shared worlds to authors writing totally independently #because some plot points are set by the publisher before pen ever hits the paper #and again you don’t have to think Salvatore or anyone is a good writer #but I always factor it in when I see plots that seem to come out of nowhere and the like #anyways that’s my rant lmao #constructive criticism of any writer is fine and I’m not knocking that before anyone gets their knickers twisted

i know i’m working on insane emotions right now due to the Situations, but i almost teared up thinking about imperfections and proof of love. velveteen rabbit style. to be loved is to be changed. nec clintasha and clint saying he loves her imperfect teeth. the crinkle that was in my late grandmother’s ear, that’s in my fathers ear, and mine, and is now crinkled in my baby nephew’s ear. the way people can still identify the fingerprints of ancient people in the pottery they made, because they were preserved pressed into the clay. it all says i love you on purpose. i love you on purpose.

#i need to write a prequel to aa4 pls pls pls pls pls #okay get this: so phoenix isnt disbarred yet and he doesnt have trucy. hes still taking and winning cases #one day he gets a call from edgeworth and hes all like ''wright i need your assistance'' and hes like what for and edgeworth goes #''ive been given the most ridiculous case and i think youre the only man in law who can take care of it''#so phoenix bikes his ass to the detention center and boom. child behind bars #and phoenix is like ??? hey kid what are doing here. and this kid is the most surly mfer on the planet like you couldnt get-#-a word out of him if you tried. hes kinda giving phoenix the stink eye too but hes just the littlest guy on earth #and phoenix feels bad for him so he tries to get a rundown of the case (maybe edgeworth gave him an autopsy report or smth beforehand)#but get this. the kid still wont speak. he hasnt even moved a muscle. and after some prodding you find out this little dude-#-doesnt speak english (i dont love aa6 but i think apollos tragic backstory can be interesting so we're going w that but taking it seriousl #anyways so maya is like omg this kid is speaking khurainese but hers is kinda broken bc shes not from the mainland and only knows it-#-from like prayers #so you only get bits and pieces of the kids testimony. plus he still doesnt wanna talk bc ''dhurk told me not to talk to you''#so you start following the new lead but you ask too many questions and apollos like oh shit i said too much and wont talk to you anymore #but now you have two leads: khur'ain and a man named ''dhurk'' plus the fact that this is kid might be new to america since-#-he cant speak english but is smack dab in the middle of california. its all v curious and phoenix wants to get to the bottom of it #for the rest of the case i feel like it would go in the direction of ''we dont know exactly whats up w this dhurk guy or where this kid-#-came from but we do get him acquitted and phoenix is able to save him from the dark path he was heading towards'' thus steering apollo-#-in the direction of law and giving him a wayyyy better reason than aa6 gave him <3 #i kind of like the interlinked nature of ace attorney's storytelling. like everything leads into smth else and everyone is impacted-#-by another person before they even become properly entangled w each other's lives #like how mia faced dahlia years before she met phoenix but dahlia was the one to connect them #or how trucy gave phoenix the diary paper but she's also the one who ropes apollo into the waa. even before they know they're siblings #or how lamoire left apollo and trucy as children and when they reunite as adults they cant recognise each other but they all find each-#-other anyways #i could go on but i think this could be cool yknow esp bc i think the most interesting thing about apollo's aa6 backstory is his life-#-post dhurk. like where did he stay? was he a foster kid? was he put into the system? how did that affect him? what kind of ppl took him in #i just wanna know how that whole thing would have effected him bc like when yiu think about it how did he even get to america?? his dad's #-considered a terrorist. idk man i think its interesting and apollo and dhurks interactions are one of the only good parts of aa6

#tm #i i'm like i'm short circuiting #the way - when they both carry so much pain and trauma with them; where they deal with death and the worst of people every day;#when they've lost so much; lost each other more than once -#one of the most pervasive themes in their story; woven throughout it from the very beginning is happiness #wanting to give whatever happiness they can to others -#comforting families and getting justice for victims and jane's gifts and pranks and lisbon's supportive leadership and understanding -#wanting to be happy themselves; and maybe most importantly wanting the other to be happy #like just off the top of my head (and i'm so tempted to go right back and rewatch and actually write down every one) there's so much of it #and it makes me crazy because of how it's expressed on both sides #lisbon doesn't SAY it much - most of the 'i want you to be happy' kind of lines are jane's - but she SHOWS it #from the day they met and she helped him up off the floor she's there in support of him;#her quiet comfort when he's low; her eye rolls and indulging grins when he's pulling a silly trick on the team;#her soft smiles in the background when someone genuinely thanks him and he doesn't know what to do #with the pain she has in her past; in growing up; with the tough skin she's wrapped herself in to get through what she has #she appreciates the quieter moments; the moments where her big bombastic partner lets down his guard and #stops putting on so much of a show and she can see the joy he can still find in the little things even with all the darkness he carries #it's jane that has the big loud moments - the confessions and the spoken words - where he states outright (and repeatedly)#how much he wants her to be happy; how important it is to him and that makes so much sense because that's who he is #(not always of course but more often than not and that's how he presents himself)#he's dramatic and he's bold and his grief is the same; this giant unavoidable yoke that's never going to completely fall off his shoulders #and idk there's just something so beautiful to me about this man with the more obvious burden of pain being so doggedly - and vocally -#committed to the happiness of this woman who tries to hide her pain and shies away from comfort more than she's able to accept it #and that through everything they've been together the ways both of them approach happiness and each other have also come together #where he can say something like this and not only can she be happy for him but she can know just how much of that is because of her #'for the first time in YOU know how long' and she does #they just make me crazy
