Personality
โ โThat boy is a mess. Whether it be running off and getting himself into trouble, or letting his emotions do irreversible damage to those around him. Canโt say it was too refreshing seeing him again, especially since we can spot him a mile away; No matter what name he gives himself, nor the kinds of changes he makes to his appearances, heโs still himโฆ Itโd likely be best to keep a close eye on him; be it so he doesnโt run of and get himself lostโ Or to spot a hole in the vortex heโs surrounded himself in.โ
โ Draff to the Traveler in โThe Journey a Wingless Dragonfly Makesโ
Arvad is a traveller fuelled by the desire to understand the world around him, and by association himself. He greatly values the voyages across Teyvat, and experiencing new environments and people. To this end, he is often found out and aboutโ In ancient ruins, in some random cave or in the forest, even exploring the bustling streets of the seven nations. Heโs a charismatic fellow, whoโs easy to hit it off with yet also easy to be strung along by. Heโs sassy, and adores poking fun at othersโ Even if he means no real harm by it. He takes great joy in putting others in high-stress situations, and observing them accordingly. He plays himself off as more clumsy, and dumber than he actually is, despite having moments where he demonstrates his intelligence.
Arvad values wisdom and understanding of the world around him more than anything in the world. To this end, he is willing to do whatever it takes to learn everything a nation has to offer, regardless of how legal or moral his actions may be. His eagerness to learn, and charming demeanour have people viewing him as someone worth being around, and magneticโ Or as an annoyance (be it grand or slight), who is hard to keep up with.
Arvad is a mysterious character; awfully extroverted, yet no real information is ever know about him. Heโs an enigma, that seems too clumsy and friendly to not be some sort of threat. Whether he is actually a foe or not though, it is clear that there is way more to him than meets the eye.
History
โ โThe story of that trio is quite the doozy. They were the light of Springvaleโs lives; Two young boys, always so cheery and glued to the hip. And a guardian who was so caring, and hardworking. It was all gone in a mere instant. Stripped away in the middle of the night, and all that was left behind was a bloody crime scene. No one knows the reason, yet everyone here remembers the causeโฆ Who were once Sringvaleโs pride and joy, have now become a mere story to deter the children of Monstadt from having irrecoverable bouts with family members.โ
โ Myweiss to the Traveler in โThe Wind Blows, Folktales in Springvaleโ
[ i use the name โarvadโ throughout the summary for his backstory. but please note that at this time he had gone by โromereโ ! ]
Arvad wasnโt born in Monstadt. As a former Khaenriโan citizen, none of the seven nations have any record of his birthโ Though he himself doesnโt remember anything about his life before the age of seven, nor does he have any real connection to his homeland. The first memory he has is of him waking up in the forests that surround the nation of freedom.
Being found by a boy around his age, maybe one to two years older, he was taken in by him and his father. And the two quickly grew to be the best of friends. Glued to the hip, and always out and about within the village of Springvale. The two were inseparable, and with his unnamed friendโs cryo vision, they got up to all kinds of nonsense.
That ended swiftly though. One night, when Arvad was only thirteen or fourteen, the man heโd been taken in by had a sudden change of behaviour. Be it alcohol, something the boy did, heโll never know. With roaring flames, and an anger Arvad had never seen beforeโ The man attempted to attack him. Keyword: Attempted. The moment was over all too quickly; flashes of white clashing with harsh crimsons, only to be washed away by raging winds. And before he knew it, the living room he had once called home was stained with a deep red. The man whoโd taken him in, and whom he was grateful forโ The boy he had called friend, and looked up toโฆ Both nothing but lifeless husks on the ground.
He ran away after that. Grabbing the swiftly extinguishing cryo vision, and newly acquired anemo vision, he sprinted out of the homeโ Hacking and slashing aimlessly at whoever dared get in his way. Arvad fled from Monstadt that day, never daring to look back at the nation he once called home. With a change of his name and appearance, the man became a wanderer. Denouncing the vision he had been given, and refusing to use it under any circumstance. Instead, he wears the dimly lit cryo vision on his backโฆ Be it sentimental, or self-punishing, even he is unsure.
Vision
โ โThe fact that you two would come to me to ask Arvad about his vision is truly curious. Though I can see the looks on both your faces; it suits him. The wind is the greatest symbol of freedom in the world, howeverโฆ No, no, Never mind! I canโt tell you much about Arvadโs vision, simply because Iโm not him. But I can assure youโฆ It fits him well. [โฆ] The one on his back? Ahโฆ Iโm afraid I cannot tell you why it continues to shine, albeit dimly. It should have gone out a long time agoโฆ Though perhaps the fact that it still glows may not be so bad.โ
โ Venti to the Traveler in โThe Journey a Wingless Dragonfly Makesโ
The night Arvad acquired his vision is far from a happy one; And in factโ He wishes he was never gifted a vision to begin with.
The clashing of blades, Arvad could do naught but watch helplessly as the friend he loved so deeply protected him from the man he thought cared for him. A slew of words and hurtful phrases were lashed out, accusations and curses being thrown in Arvadโs direction. He had to step in, had too; And so he did. Whilst saving his best friend from the onslaught of attacks from his fatherโ Arvad only served to make the situation worse. After all, heโd no right of stepping into a fight between father and son.
Things began heating upโ Both literally and figuratively. Near-fatal blows being thrown out left and right, and before anyone knew itโฆ Raging winds swarmed the once cozy home. Without any control, no mind for the newly acquired visionโ Arvad surprisingly managed to cool the ever escalating bout.
By killing both of them.
Itโs okay, because it was an accidentโฆ Right? Wrong.
Arvad hates the circumstances in which heโd gotten his vision. He hates the vision itself, and whatever god thought to bestow it upon him. If only it hadnโt been given to him, perhaps those two could have lived. Perhaps he could have retained the semblance of normalcy his life held. The three of them would still be togetherโฆ
Anemoโฆ The wind, and the symbol of freedom. What a joke.
Appearance
Arvad is a man of average size; Only standing at about 176 cm. He isnโt too bulky or muscular, though makes up for it with nimbleness and speed. His hair is a soft green colour, that fades to darkish blue at the ends. His eyes are similar: A striking emerald hue, complimented by blue and red colours. He has white, diamond pupils. A signature feature of the manโs appearance is the eyepatch he wears; black, decorated with a golden-coloured snowflake.
However his most confusing featureโ That Cryo vision he wears on his backโฆ
Bonds
โบ The Traveler & Paimon
Arvad has a mutual respect for the traveller, and honestly enjoys their company! He doesnโt accompany them on all of their adventuresโ Predominately their time is spent on the road together. Arvad is near-constantly on the road travelling, and of course the traveller has things to do and places to be; so the two run into each other sometimes! And Arvad will accompany them the rest of the way to whatever nation they were originally going to. Heโs come to see them as a good โon-the-roadโ buddy, and sees them as a small moment of reprieve from the lonesome nights he spends on the road. After the destination is reached thoughโฆ Arvad suddenly disappears to do whatever he needs/wants to. (Sometimes his and the travellers quests will overlap! So they might run into each other again. Arvad just tends not to do anything that wonโt further his own goals/questsโ Even if only a little.)
Also thinks Paimon is hilarious. After their first encounter, he has made a habit to keep snacks on hand for the companion.
