She sits on her bed, a plate of yesterday’s reheated pepperoni pizza laid across her lap while the television played rerun episodes of Gilmore Girls when her phone rang unexpectedly.
At such late hours she decided to let her phone ring, for if she answered whoever it was calling on the other end would know she was awake and she did not want that. It was probably one of those scam calls that were going around tricking people to give out their credit card information for their own benefit.
Though, she wondered if they knew that she had only ten dollars currently sitting in her bank account after she had spent the last of her savings on pizza.
She sighed happily once her ringtone slowly faltered down but it wasn’t long before it started ringing again and again. And on the fourth ring she sadly set down her pizza to the side before snatching off her phone from the power socket.
Her eyes widen in horror as she views the bold letters of the caller ID. She immediately accepts the call, rushing to turn off the television to give her full attention to her caller.
“Angel.” Aemond greeted in a low hum, sounds of metal clanking could be heard from the background.
She appreciates that he doesn’t sound angry for her lack of response. In the past few months she had the pleasure of knowing Aemond, she had come to learn very quickly that he was not a very patient man. If Aemond wanted something, whether it’d be something materialistic or sexual, he wanted it now in any way possible.
“Hey Aem, sorry I thought you’d be asleep.” She apologizes, setting a few pieces of loose hair behind her ear.
In the other line, she hears Aemond acknowledge her by singing another low hum, something Aemond regularly did that frustrated her. At first she thought Aegon was just joking around when he first set them up on a blind date, that Aemond was a man of a few words and only humming out his responses. But as she got to know him more throughout their dating phase, she realized that Aegon was in fact not joking. It took her months to break him out of his shell.
“So, how are things down south?” She asks, quickly changing the subject to that of his work status.
Aemond worked in the field he always wanted to be in; as a high school history and philosophy teacher. Aemond loved his job even if they were students who made it tough for him to educate those who did take their studies seriously. He loved the challenge. He loved being up on his feet teaching the histories of how Westeros came to be or educating the famous ideologies of the greatest philosophers that made Aemond fall in love with the subject.
You could say Aemond was a workaholic. There was no denying that. What some teachers considered the best part of teaching was the summer vacations, Aemond absolutely despised it. However that problem would soon resolve after she had called up her uncle Oberyn, who taught gender and sexuality studies at Sunspear University, if there were any positions available for Aemond’s area of degree during the summer. To her delight, her uncle informed her that the university was looking for someone who was fluent in High Valyrian to teach a beginner course.
Aemond immediately emailed his resume in and within a few days after his students left for summer break Aemond got on a plane to Dorne and began to work in his new position in a new city.
Which was about a month ago.
“Hard,” Aemond breathes as he licks his lips.
“Aw, my love—” She tried to comfort him before she was cut off. “Hot,” Aemond corrects himself, standing up from his own bed to retrieve his laptop.
“Well Dorne is known to be quite hot. Especially during the summer.” She informs in a matter of fact tone as she toys with the thin strap of her nightgown. “Besides, I thought dragons prefer the heat.”
A low chuckle came from the other end. She can practically imagine the corners of his lips curving up to a smirk. “We do prefer heat but we are not immune to it as you think. I even purchased three fans to keep myself cool. Though, they do not work for shit which leaves me, as of right now bare.”
She paused, straightening up from the bed. “When you say bare—”
“I mean bare as when I came into this world”
A long silence came afterward, and she could hear the beat of her own heart thumping against the screen of her phone. She looked at her Charlie Brown calendar hung above her nightstand. Once she confirmed that today was in fact the weekend, it became evident why Aemond was calling at such a late hour.
Heat began to seep into her lower belly down between her thighs at what she could surmise would happen next.
It had been some time since they were last intimate. Forty-two days to be exact; the day before his departure to Dorne.
Aemond and her spent the whole morning, afternoon and night tangled within each other going round after round in different positions and different rooms of their shared cottage saying their goodbyes until she passed out from the many orgasms Aemond gave her. The following morning Aemond threw himself into fits of giggles when she could no longer stand up from their bed to drive him to the airport, feeling sore and bruised from the intensity of the night before.
“Angel? Have I lost you?” Aemond asked, snapping her out of her thoughts. She replied with a shaky no before Aemond began to speak again. “Hmm then accept my facetime call.” Her eyes locked with her laptop which she did not realize it had been ringing and nervously pressed the green button.
Through the low lighted room she could see the silhouette of Aemond. His laptop perched on top of his stomach, his bare and freckled chest full on display. She so desperately wished she was there to roam her hands all over him. And she stifled a moan when she noticed Aemond’s silver hair was pulled back into a braid just as how she liked it.
“There you are my beautiful angel,” Aemond purrs, giving his hardened cock a good squeeze from the base. His eye roams over her clothed figure, taking in her sheer white nightgown that leaves nothing to his imagination.
Heats spread to her cheeks, his compliments never tiring her.
“You don’t know how much I miss you, angel. Your hands—” On cue her hand slowly waves itself down between her thighs, pushing her lacy panties to the side as her fingers come into contact with her arousal on the way to her clit.
“Stroking my cock while your lovely mouth sucks me off.” Aemond imagines it all like it was yesterday and his cock pulsed so hard it ached. It wasn’t any better when he saw her chest rise and fall with wanton little pants escaping her lips.
She was touching herself. Something Aemond warned her not to do in his absence. He wanted to reprimand her for such an act but instead Aemond let her continue as he wanted to watch her unfold and peak especially for what he had in mind.
“Oh, Aemond, I miss you too.” She whines, throwing her head back into the pillows, struggling to keep her laptop perched ontop her knees. Waves of pleasure move throughout her body, his words going straight to her core.
She hears Aemond groan.
“Your tongue on my cunt and- and—” Her words stammer and she feels the tips of her ears flush with embarrassment for her next confession. “Go on, angel.” Aemond encourages as he gazes at her reddened state. He finds it endearing and if he was there right now, he would pull away her hand until she confessed.
“Your nose.”
“And what about my nose?” He hums using his thumb to circle the tip of cock.
“I-I love your nose on my clit.”
Aemond’s one good eye widened and felt the intense pressure in his lower stomach increase. It was no wonder why whenever he went down on her she screamed the loudest when his nose brushed against her sensitive bundle of nerves.
Aemond continued watching her touch and lose herself in pleasure. Intensely watching as her fingers vigorously circled her clit with sweat above her brow. He moaned sweet nothings through his laptop and just as he sensed she was about to peak, Aemond stopped her.
She did as she was told and she couldn’t help to let out a few tears of frustration.
“Get your buzzy out, angel.” Aemond instructed. Instantly her mood shifts into an excited and eager one.
“Which one?”
“Oh you know which one.”
She definitely knows which one. Her hand reaches for the drawer of her nightstand where inside lay rows of different forms of vibrators as well as different sizes and shapes of dildos Aemond purchased within their relationship. Their favorite being a dual pink vibrator that was made to stimulate her g-spot along with her clit. It was also remote and app controlled with multiple levels of speed and vibrations that made her come in less than five minutes. Which was good since it took her a while to come.
“Good. Now be a good girl and undress in front of me, angel” She eagerly nods at his words and sets her laptop in front of her. “Look at me while you bare yourself to me.” Her eyes snap up meeting his darkened violet eye that was full of passion and concentration as her fingers lift the hem of her nightgown.
She sees him bite his lower lip once her breasts are revealed. Aemond nods for her to proceed to take off the next piece of clothing and she does so, tossing it somewhere across the room not caring where it lands.
Having laid together multiple times, she swallows the need to cover herself and spreads her legs apart just enough for Aemond to gaze through the camera at how wet she was for him. Aemond inhales the desire to stroke his cock into completion. He wanted to see her fall apart first.
“Now place the buzzy in your cunt, slowly.”
She rubs the silicone against her slick gathering some of her juices before sliding the thicker part of the vibrator inside. She sighs in relief at the sensation, it wasn’t as big and delicious of a stretch like Aemond’s cock but it was just right to feel some satisfaction.
She then bends the longest part of the silicone gently against her pulsating clit with needy whines and pants waiting for further instructions.
Seven fucking Hells. Aemond curses to himself wishing nothing more than to book a flight back to King’s Landing and have her sit on his face licking away her juices. Aemond remembers that in a month that will happen soon.
Aemond’s fingers swipe through the different kinds of vibrational settings through the blue hearted app and settle for one with the lowest speed to get her started.
Once Aemond hears a series of surprised cries and gasps, he gives up on trying not to touch himself. He starts stroking his cock at a languid pace as he watches his lovely little angel struggle to keep her legs still and open through the camera.
“You’re doing so well baby,” She hears Aemond praise. “Tell me does that feel good? Are you close? Answer me, sweet angel.”
She fervently nods her head.
“Use your words, angel.”
“Y-yes.” She says, barely being able to control words out through the pleasure. “Yes, what?” Aemond taunts before he lets out a hiss when the fat head of cock starts to ache more. He knew he wasn’t going to last long as he hadn’t touched himself so intimately in forty-two days, wanting to also keep good on his promise.
“Yes, Aemond, it feels so good. I need more please.” While vibrations felt so indescribably good it wasn’t sufficient to send her over the edge. She knew Aemond set the vibrator in level one. And in their lovemaking, Aemond usually set the speed at level five which was neither too fast nor too slow. Just right to see stars followed by another round.
When Aemond set his laptop to the side, giving her a full view of his proud length standing straight against his stomach, she nearly lost it, clenching the silicone tightly inside her walls. Gods she really did miss him. All of him.
She groans loudly when Aemond sets the speed she likes, making her eyes roll at the back of her head, pinching both of her nipples for some extra stimulation but what Aemond says makes her halt and glance at his disheveled state.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck! I’m coming!” He moans as she watches his hand stroke his cock vigorously while long ropes of his seed spurt all across his chest and hand. Series of whines and growls leave his lips all while his hips buck upwards at the intense pleasure that makes Aemond cry. Literally cry.
She watches all in awe.
Saying he looked beautiful was an understatement. No, Aemond looked so godly and ethereal and she understood now the reference that Targaryens were closer to gods than men.
Once Aemond steadied himself, the words left her lips without thinking.
“That was quick.”
And before she had time to explain, the air in her lungs left quickly like her words as she felt the most intense and deep sensation between her legs. She let out incoherent noises to which she could not describe. Were they moans? Groans? Cries? She did not know.
All she did know was the tightness in her lower belly finally snapped and her orgasm washes all over her like a tide.
After a few minutes, she heard Aemond laugh through the screen. “You were saying?” He teases as he waves his phone around the camera.
She feels too tired to reply. Her body automatically feels relaxed and stress-free.
“Oh, angel, don’t get too comfortable. I’m not done with you yet. I’m still very hard.”
Oh shit….

Spamton for the send the character thing 👍
Send Me a Character & I'll Tell You✨️
My first impression:
I thought he was a fun character, I didn't think about how odd he was nearly enough though, he reminded me of mad dummy a bit with how he jumpscared me from some trash and wanted my soul, i was also reminded of mettaton when he mentioned showing off our soul, in general spamton felt like a classic undertale interaction, which I should have realised was odd to have in deltarune where practically no one else even mentions your soul, was a bit surprised how much everyone was into him because I never did his side quest due to misunderstanding his instructions, but I also couldn't blame them because he's pretty fun
My impression now:
God, I love him so much, I want to kiss this puppet scam artist so bad, And His lore drives me insane in a good way, so damn tragic, Yet he's also really dang funny too, it's honestly a shame I didn't get to do his sidequest blind before getting things from it spoiled, or maybe it is good I nearly cried watching my sister beat spamton neo when I already knew what was gonna happen, I can only imagine how much emotional damage it would have dealt if I experienced it blind, all in all a wonderful character he's been living in my head rent free for almost 3 years now
Favorite thing about that character:
Hmm, that's tough, maybe a tie between his lore and his dialogue/personality, I frigging love how much there is to this guy, I might have to go with dialogue honestly though there's so many good lines of his
Least favorite thing:
Probably the fact he calls noelle a hoochie mama (well "hochi mama" but its not hard to geuss thats what hes trying to say), sir that is a teenager why are you basically calling her a whore- (I should probably clarify I don't see this as like a writing flaw on Toby's part, it's just probably my least favorite thing about spamton personally)
Favorite Line/scene:
Line wise it's a bit silly, but "YOU'VE GOT [guts] KID! THATS [Discomfort and abdominal pain] IN MY [guts]!", idk it seems like he's going to say something positive about kris having guts, and then he says that, hilarious to me, "turn up the juice turn up the juice make sure to not get any on your shoes" is pretty dang great too though
as for scene, deffinitly the one where you've almost cut all his strings during the neo fight. Obviously it ends very sadly with him just falling on the ground and realizing he'll never be free but, idk him finally realizing kris is trying to help him, it's bittersweet, he's probably been pretty convinced for a while no one would ever genuinely want to help him, and he seems so touched when he finally realizes kris does, it gets to me, the scene after he falls on the ground is really good too
Favorite interaction that character has with another:
His interactions with kris is kind of an obvious one, but Honestly, I think his interaction with noelle we learn about from the sweepstakes is really sweet, how she was the first person to read his emails, so he sent her that code for a pipis in that game she played, which his brackets imply was probably the first gift he ever gave anyone, idk to me it shows a sweeter side to spamton you don't usually get to see, also the implication that even when he tries to do something nice he ends up sending a suspicious link that crashes a cumpter is pretty funny (also kind of sad when you really think about it)
A character that I wish that character would interact with more:
Hmm, maybe noelle I geuss? Or berdly maybe that would be pretty damn interesting to me, I do get why we never see him do so in chapter 2 though
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character:
Hmm, I can't think of any that came to mind while i was playing, do ones you think of afterwards after seeing them count? Theres honestly quite a few... but you know what you can have one that deals me slight psychic damage, jack frost from the 3rd Santa Claus movie, yeah you know the movie trilogy that started with a man becoming Santa after the original died from falling off his roof? Jack frost from the 3rd one kind of reminds me of him
A headcanon about that character:
I like to think his brackets quoting ads and things in the internet constantly is like when autistic people quote things from movies and things like that to help communicate, Yes this is basically me headcanoning him as Autistic, actually there's more related to him being autistic where that came from, the fact his smile is an "award losing" one being the result of him not being able to control his facial expressions well, him being a spam email while his peers are regular ads could work really well as allegory for being autistic among allistics as well, especailly being undiagnosed with how the addisons say he was "just like the rest of us" and don't seem to want to acknowledge or say that he's different from them in any way, even though he is, and how because he most likely didn't realise he was, he tried really hard to be like them and failed and didn't get why (before he gets that phone call even), (idk of toby fox intended for it to be, part of why its with headcanon stuff, i just think it could be interpreted that way)
this one's a bit of a stretch, since he probably is willing to push boundaries to get what he wants if how he acts when you try to decline his deal is anything to go by, but he also doesnt seem to ever acknowledge how uncomfortable he makes kris, going all the way up to their face even though they backed up from him, I could see that being him being bad at picking up social cues, and also struggling with boundaries like how close you should get to someone (like i said, it's deffinitly a stretch)
A song that reminds me of that character:
Too many, I have a private 2 hour long playlist on spotify full of songs that make me think of this guy, if I typed out every one that would be a lot of songs so just have a few, 'Everybody Loves Me' by OneRepublic (specifically him during his big shot days in 1997), 'The Drunk' by Kiltro, and 'Shake My Hand, Look In My Eyes' by Rinse & Repeat
An unpopular opinion about that character:
Was going to say not believing in acid theory, but I feel like that isn't unpopular enough so, I don't think he was as much of a shy wittle soft guy uwu as people make him out to be pre big shot days, I mean it's not impossible, but the one thing we learn about him is that he'd run his mouth about making it big some day every night he was at the cyber grill, which tells me he was probably more like, ambitious and confident really, I mean I'm sure deep down he had his doubts but I don't think he was that open about them
I mean there's nothing wrong with portraying him as shy, and once again he could have been for all we know, but I think it's refreshing when people approach addispam differently, and it would be nice to see more takes based off what we're given rather then what would seem more sad
Favorite picture:
Every. single. one. Ok actually to be more specific one of these two, hard to pick, love how messed up he looks in the right one from the door knob thing, but I also love the left one because look at him, he's so happy to be eating that nice big cheeseburger, he should get to eat big tasty cheeseburgers forever <3

We left messages for Amanda and Debbie in Executive. Do you need their numbers? I prefer Amanda.
She helped with the airbnb bank fraud last year.
I need refunds on all scams now Paige. You and Amanda settle this tonight. Judges want current bank statement to so they can forgive debts from local scams at court/bank & Sheriff- who got busted on foul play.
Thanks!
Nitya
Yeah- California is the abortion & rape = baby factory State!
Could you please confirm this is a fake check? Sal has made mistakes before and seems sort of senile about continuum with BBVA since he's so new! Please let Idyllwild Town Crier know to stop Trafficking our peeps on Cons. They shouldn't advertise this and a murderer sex offender in one week right?
Could you send latest statement for my judges so they can forgive my registration fees due to PNC management robberies in covid with Mary Sue Haney.
This was bank fraud there. We don't trust the 22.7m federal employees raping our mothers and stealing. Please fire Sal.
Sent to my boss Sue-
Sal- the manager said it was a fake check and refused to cash it! He's a a**hole! I had to get Jerry Sue Haney fired. Do you want executive number? He's likely a fraud- not your check! Lol
I will let executive office know. He's also had a senior moment about my last 7 years of banking there.
Lmk if you can call them & fix it with Wells Fargo? Also- I mentioned I can't launder money in any way on the rental. I am on a state stipend- not enough- but they would've withdrawn my food and pay if they thought there was a way to Capitalism on us again!

Aloha! You got all my responses via text? Did you get a place secured here? Are you still coming on 20th?
I'm moving into a new place & seeing Dr's but will be available.
Lmk if you need anything and did you send check? I didn't see anything last week! You said you'd send tracking too so maybe didn't get to it?
I am most often texting. Email isn't as reliable. Maybe I'll open another acct. Tmobile also is spotty in Riverside.
Country life is simple.
I try to exonomise and only run into towns when need to! (:
Hope packing is going well.
Blessings & Peace,

hello,
recently I've been scammed by a fake company for contract employment. it was very very efficient and all their IP addresses were fine until the very last email (it was blacklisted) and my bank called me and informed me of a fraudulent check. this has been getting to me for a lot of reasons such as feeling stupid enough to fall for it, feeling hopeless about being able to get a job (it's been over a year I've been trying but no one hires me)...
but it's getting to me mostly because I'm UNGODLY paranoid about it. I shouldn't be paranoid at all about it, but I've absolutely terrified that they're going to come to my house because my address was said. I blocked all parties involved, reported for phishing, and deleted the entire email accounts associated (even one that wasn't but I felt I needed to play it extra safe). I changed my number, updated all accounts/switched their associated emails/changed passwords/deleted when none of those worked.
I just can't help but feel paranoid that they're still following me or are going to use my information I provided for worse things. my boyfriend said that I did everything I needed to, that these people don't have the resources or energy to try and come for me when they likely scammed more people out of the 45 people who applied for the position as well. I've had my entire social security stolen when I was very young and I didn't freak out as much as this. since I've been unemployed for over a year it's not like these people could steal anything from me other than thousands in student and medical debt.
I just feel insanely stupid for being played like this and I just feel so much dread about it following me. am I right to? or is my boyfriend right? did I really do everything I was supposed to? how do I feel better about this? sorry to bother you about this...
Hey there,
Being scammed by different people/ organisations is so easy now days and especially when they make themselves look so professional as well! I was recently sent a handful of emails from paypal letting me know that I had limits on my paypal account unless I filled out forms including giving out personal information. It sounded legit to me by the look of the email and the email address that it was sent from, but it wasn’t until I reached out to paypal personally myself that I was told it was a scam, despite everything looking really professional and normal! So, I guess what I am trying to say is that it’s unfortunately so easy to be scammed now, and yes it does make you paranoid but there is also so many other things to focus on in your daily life and just knowing that you have done all the right things after finding out you were scammed, will hopefully put you a bit more at ease. Despite your boyfriend being right in saying all he did say to you though in regards to the scammers not having the energy or resources to take things further, it’s understandable that it’s still worrying you. But again, when you find your mind wandering to what happened, try to refocus your thoughts on something more positive and/ or what is actively going on in your day/s.
In regards to not being able to find a job, please try to be kind to yourself and don’t take it personally. It may be just people just aren’t hiring at the moment. I am not sure what kind of occupations you may be interested in, but is there any chance you could go back into study to further your skills which will then hopefully double your chances in then securing a job? Just something to think about!
I really hope that this has helped a bit and please do let us know if we can help to support you in any other way!
I’m thinking of you and hope that you are going OK!
Take care,
Lauren

Thess vs IT Bullshit
I'm really hoping that today was the result of the universe getting my usual "Thursdays Are Bullshit" thing done a little early this week because of how important tomorrow actually is for me. I could accept that if it means that I get a smooth, hassle-free booking of my autograph slots at MCM tomorrow afternoon...
So today, apparently we added a new hospital to our dictation software, and everything was fucked. Here are just a few of the bits of bullshit I encountered over the course of the day, on top of the scam call that woke me up earlier than I wanted to be after an already fitful sleep:
First off - couldn't drag a chunk of typing into my own personal folder. Every time I did, it magically vanished and reappeared in the main queue. So I had to basically just type whatever was at the top of the queue every time. Which ... well, you know what Temp's like. (Thank the gods for Milady, is all I'll say.) Of course, the problem there is what happens when we're all trying to grab the bit of typing at the top of the queue at the same time (the word you are looking for to describe that is "clusterfuck").
When I was trying to figure out where the typing I'd pulled into my personal folder had vanished off to, I checked the archives. Happened to notice a few things in there that hadn't been typed. So when I flagged that up in the growing email chain about the mess the addition of the new hospital to our dictation software caused, the IT guy pulled everything labelled as "Transcription Pending" out of the archive and back into the main queue. Suddenly the queue is 300-odd dictations long, so basically doubled.
I then proceeded to notice that when we finish typing the dictation and click "Finished" ... the software doesn't switch it to "Transcription Completed". It just sits there in the archives as "Transcription Pending". So most of the ones that the IT guy put back into the main queue had already been typed, so it was a matter of digging out which ones had and which ones hadn't been typed, which as you can imagine was a fucking nightmare. (Scruffman then turned to IT Guy and went, "That was a really bad call because you have stressed out all the secretaries; next time, just stick them in my queue and I'll sort out which have been typed and which haven't". I have no idea if they're going to solve the fact that transcriptions aren't marked as finished when they're ... you know, finished.
Also it turns out that the reason there were untyped reports in the archives is because some genius decided that a copy of a piece of dictation should go into the archives before it's been typed. This is counterintuitive as fuck to me, but hey. Also we don't each have individual archive folders anymore, which makes it even harder to find something we maybe hit "Finish" on by mistake. (It can be easy to do - the button for "Finish" is at the top of the foot pedal, right over the spot you press for "Play", so...)
Then I ended up doing a lot of the typing for the new junior doctors, because of course I did - they were the long ones. One guy had messed up his microphone connection and was halfway across the room from the built-in microphone in his monitor so I had to try to type up things he was saying from halfway across the room when something very near the microphone was making this ... not loud, exactly, but heavy *THOOMP THOOMP THOOMP* noise that I could actually feel through my in-ear headphones (great for someone with chronic migraine, right?). I think it was music because it sounded like a rave with the treble turned down all the way. Anyway, he also cut out a significant chunk of the block key by mistake and I had to dig up contact details for this guy when I only had a first initial and a fairly common last name to go on. Thankfully, I got it right first try, but it was more bullshit I did not need.
Another junior doctor produced a twelve-minute long monstrosity but it was actually only maybe half that, because the junior doctor kept recording through the general faff he was doing with the specimen. This on top of rewriting half the actual report in the middle of and immediately after finishing the block key.
He was not the only one to keep recording when unnecessary, by the way. At least the other one only left it for three minutes instead of, like, six.
All I wanted to do with today was throw together some tuna broccoli pasta, have a nice meal, and indulge in some more Baldur's Gate 3 as a way of distracting from the vibrating anxiety I am feeling over having to book eight autograph slots that are going to be fought over like starving dogs fight over scraps. (Effectively I'm going to be hovering over that site at five minutes to three in anticipation of the autograph slots going on sale, and if work doesn't like it, work can suck it; I'm allowed breaks.) However, now the migraine is growing to epic proportions and the stress is causing a fibro flare and both are giving me vertigo and I can't tell whether the nausea and the dizzy is the vertigo or the fact that I haven't eaten much of anything today.
...What, you think I had time for lunch in all this? I took some breaks, sure, but none long enough to stuff a sandwich into my face. I had two cups of coffee and a nectarine.
So basically ... underslept and tired, stressed and aggravated, nauseous and pain-wracked, probably hungry but not really sure, and in no mood to do anything but whimper, really.
......I guess that's one way to distract from autograph booking anxiety...

My Betcoin.ag Experience: A $20,000 Scam Exposed
I created my Betcoin.ag account on March 2, 2022, nearly a year ago. I initially deposited $1000. Since then, I've been betting on sports like football and basketball intermittently. The limits on Betcoin.ag were not very high, so I found Playbetr.com, a sister site offering higher limits. I made my Playbetr.com account on December 31, 2022. My first deposit on Playbetr was $4,000. Later, I deposited another $1,000 to $2,000, though I can't recall the exact amount. Similarly, I deposited another $1,000-ish on Betcoin.ag. Altogether, I deposited around $7,000 to $8,000 on Betcoin.ag and Playbetr, all in BTC. Initially, there were no issues.
On Playbetr, I only bet on NBA and was losing at first. Then, I won some bets (NBA basketball) on both sites. The bets were completely different on each site, if that has any relevance. I had been previously losing, and that was apparently fine for them.
However, after winning, I tried to withdraw my balances from both websites. At this point, I realized I had been limited to less than $10 stakes on NBA. The total withdrawals were 0.65 BTC from Playbetr and almost 0.21 BTC from Betcoin. Both sites asked me for KYC verification via email. I uploaded full KYC documentation to both sites, including pictures of my driving license, selfies, and address proof. My account was fully verified, and I was waiting for my withdrawals. The next day, I tried to log in and saw that I couldn't. I was unable to log in to either website, or when I could, I had no access to any account features. Essentially, they blocked both my Playbetr and Betcoin accounts at once, without any reason. I received an email from both sites claiming I was guilty of fraudulent actions and that they had the right to terminate my account and suspend payouts. What's most amusing is that they offered to return my deposit. For the record, I don't care about getting my deposit back. This is laughable.
I see this happening to more people. They closed my accounts for no reason, not providing any form of explanation or evidence, and then ignored me for weeks. I have been emailing them since I got these emails on January 3, 2023, and over a month has passed without a reply. I try to speak to them through live chat and get the same response every time: "email for more information sir".
I've seen Playbetr specifically respond to many threads on this forum, often claiming to be very transparent and fair. It's surprising how well-informed they are and that they always reply to complaints. Now, I would really love to know why I have been scammed out of 0.85 BTC, which is almost $20,000 at the moment. They listed types of fraudulent actions without explaining how I broke any of them, and I obviously haven't. These actions include, but are not limited to, syndicate play or participating in any type of collusion with other players, match-fixing, late betting, development of strategies aimed at unfaithful winnings or advantage play detrimental to their business, arbitrage/corridor betting, use of forking services, use of surebet or valuebet services or steam chasing, fraudulent actions against other online casinos or payment providers, chargeback procedures with a credit card or denial of some payments made, other types of cheating, providing incorrect information about personal data during registration, being known to have gone bankrupt in the country of residence, suspicion of money laundering or funds obtained by illegal activity, and use of a device, bot, or software to place bets or interfere with any transactions at Betcoin.ag.
They haven't explained how I did any of this. I am 100% sure I haven't. All I've been betting on are NBA bets, one of the biggest markets in the world, and it would be impossible to cheat in these markets. NBA is the #1 league of a top 3 sport in the world, which has huge limits on every known sportsbook. Their claim that I cheated is false, and they are ignoring me and many others. I refuse to let this be ignored and will do anything in my power to take it to the next step. It's laughable that they claimed they would repay my deposits. I wouldn't accept them, but they still ignored me when I mentioned it. I have seen other users contact Curacao courts and lawyers. I am willing to pay any amount of money or do anything to get this sorted straight. I'm not letting these scumbags get away with scamming innocent, fair players for absolutely no reason.
Here are some links proving my claims:
Proof of my withdrawal requests (proves I had 0.85 BTC total in both accounts): Gyazo Link 1, Gyazo Link 2
Screenshots of bets I won on Playbetr (FAIR, NORMAL NBA BETS): Gyazo Link 3, Gyazo Link 4

Video of me showing conversation with a friend ("proof" I did not use Playbetr until before December 30, 2022): YouTube Link 2
Summary:
Total amount: 0.85 BTC (deposits + profits)
Accounts were randomly blocked on January 3, 2023, after requesting withdrawals (over a month ago)
Did not break any rules
No reply on live chat or email (getting ignored)
No explanation or evidence to back anything up
I am looking forward to a reply from Betcoin.ag and/or Playbetr.com. Thank you in advance.

$20,000 Down the Drain: The Unforgivable Scam That Left Me Penniless
I made my Betcoin.ag account on March 2nd, 2022, almost a year ago. I initially deposited $1000. Since then, I've been betting on sports, particularly football and basketball, on and off for about a year. However, I found the betting limits on this website were not very high. Therefore, I discovered Playbetr.com, which is a sister website to Betcoin.ag, offering higher limits.
I created my Playbetr.com account at the end of last year, on December 31st, 2022. My first deposit on Playbetr was $4000. Later, I deposited another $1000 to $2000, though I'm not sure about the exact amount. Similarly, on Betcoin.ag, I deposited another $1000. In total, I deposited around $7000 to $8000 across both Betcoin.ag and Playbetr, all in BTC. I never had any issues.
On Playbetr, I had only been betting on the NBA. Initially, I was losing. Then, I won some bets on both sites, specifically on NBA basketball. Importantly, I did not place the same selections on both sites; my bets were completely different on each platform. Although I had been previously losing, that seemed acceptable to them.
After winning some bets, I attempted to withdraw my balances from both websites. I realized I had been limited to less than $10 stakes on NBA bets. The total withdrawals were 0.65 BTC from Playbetr and almost 0.21 BTC from Betcoin. Both sites emailed me, requesting KYC verification. I uploaded full KYC documents to both sites, including pictures of my driving license, selfies, and address proof. My accounts were fully verified, and I was waiting for my withdrawals.
The next day, I tried to log in, but I couldn't. I was unable to access any features of my accounts on either website. Essentially, they blocked my Playbetr and Betcoin accounts simultaneously without any apparent reason. I received an email from both sites claiming that I had been guilty of fraudulent actions, and they had the right to terminate my accounts and suspend payouts. Interestingly, they offered to return my deposit, which I found laughable. I don't care about getting my deposit back.
This situation is not isolated. I have seen this happen to more people. They closed my accounts without providing any explanation or evidence and ignored me for weeks. I have been emailing them since January 3rd, 2023, but there has been no reply for over a month. I tried speaking to them through live chat, but I received the same response every time: "email for more information, sir."
I've noticed that Playbetr specifically responds to many threads on forums, often claiming to be very transparent and fair. I am surprised by how well-informed they seem and their consistent replies to complaints. Now, I would love to know why I have been scammed out of 0.85 BTC, which is almost $20,000 at the moment. They listed various fraudulent actions I allegedly committed but did not explain how I violated any of them. I am certain I did not.
These actions include syndicate play or collusion with other players, match-fixing, late betting, development of unfaithful winning strategies, arbitrage or corridor betting, fraudulent actions against other casinos or payment providers, chargeback procedures, providing incorrect personal information, being bankrupt in my country, suspicion of money laundering, and using devices or software to place bets. None of these apply to me. I have only been betting on NBA, one of the biggest markets globally, and it is impossible to cheat in these markets.
Their claim that I cheated is false, and they are ignoring me and many others. I refuse to let this be ignored and will do anything to take it further. It's ridiculous that they offered to repay my deposits, which I wouldn't accept, but still ignored me when I mentioned it. Other users have contacted Curacao courts and lawyers. I am willing to pay any amount or do anything to resolve this. I won't let these scammers get away with cheating innocent, fair players.
Here are some links proving my claims: Proof of my withdrawal requests shows I had 0.85 BTC in total across both accounts. Screenshots of bets I won on Playbetr show fair, normal NBA bets. A video of me trying to access my Playbetr account after receiving the emails, where I now can't even log in, and a video of a conversation with a friend proves I did not use Playbetr until before December 30th, 2022.
To summarize: The total amount is 0.85 BTC (deposits and profits). My accounts were randomly blocked on January 3rd, 2023, after requesting withdrawals. I did not break any rules. I have received no reply via live chat or email and have been ignored. There is no explanation or evidence to support their actions.

Okay so, I played this Nova Cybersecurity Lab Game and I gotta say, it was super interesting! The lab connected with the course materials directly, providing us examples of various different kinds of threats found online nowadays. It walked us through some phishing scams, as well as the importance of security online. It also covered how as organizations grow, the threat of cyber attacks against them does as well. There was an activity that asked us to identify phishing emails, and one very tiny detail taht I failed to recognize on my first go was the https:// prefix. It was missing from one of the two emails, and I failed to recognize it! Although the lab was constructed to show us the differences between fake and real communications online, and it was obvious which email was fake, I still didn't recognize that minute detail, showing that you never really can be too careful. The password cracking minigame allowed me to see the importance of mixing different characters and numbers into my passwords.
The entire lab itself was from a business' standpoint, which was very interesting to me. It discussed the importance of endpoint security, and how different kinds of attacks are more dangerous to different kinds of information.
Overall, this was a great lab, and I enjoyed it very much!

Story time
Obviously travelling comes with many ups and downs and even more so being in such a big group. Our two friends grace and issa left us after the boat trip so we were back to our core six. Our time in Vietnam had come to an end and we had a bit of a travel day to endure before arriving at our next country, the Philippines! We had had to fly from Da nang in the middle of the country down to Ho Chi Minh to catch a separate flight to Manila. Seems simple enough right? HAH! So the morning of we wake up to an email saying our flight to ho chi min had been changed from 2pm to 7 pm. Now we didn’t book the trip to Manila together because it was cheaper to book it separately (first mistake) and our flight to Manila left Ho Chi Minh at 950 pm. Basically not giving us enough time to get our bags, go to international departures, re check our bags, deal with immigration and make it for the next flight. So we found a different airline leaving at 2 and booked it right away. Hahaha. They email us shortly after saying that flight has also been changed to 7pm. So now we have two of the exact same flights booked that don’t leave us enough time to make the Manila flight. We decided to just get everything packed and go to the airport to figure it out there. Luckily we found another flight leaving at 4pm that got us to ho chi min is with more than enough breathing room to catch our Manila flight. First issue solved, just cost us a bit extra. We landed in Ho Chi Minh and played some cards until we’re able to check our bags and go through security. Not only did the company charge us up the wazoo for checked bags but the lady also only took cash so 100% a scam but whatever take my bags and get us to Manila! Bags are dealt with and we’re heading through immigration before we go through security. Now Vietnam was the only country that we needed a visa for and we all had done our due diligence and had the proper paperwork to at least enter the country so what could go wrong? I’m just getting stamped and heading through when I see Jenna being escorted by an immigration officer and look at me and mouth “somethings wrong”. Quickly received a text from her saying the officer said “not ok” regarding her visa. Luckily he took her just across the room and we were separated by a little gate before security and could hear her conversation with the officer. He told her the visa she had chosen was incorrect and she had only been approved to be in the county until the 5th of February. It was the 9th so she was kinda just like okay well I’m leaving now……. That didn’t fly and he started telling her she had to go into Ho chi minh city and go to an immigration office to get her papers sorted. Obviously that sent alarms blaring for all of us and a panic set in. He kept changing the story and then told her she had to fly back to da nang and get it sorted there. Now the rest of us couldn’t go back through immigration to stay with her as we had just been stamped out but how could we leave her alone?! Stress set in as the time passed and after what felt like ages of Jenna crying and pleading with the officer and him having absolutely no empathy a Canadian or American passerby came up to us and said “I’ve lived in Vietnam for a very long time, ask him what the fee is, she’ll be okay”. God bless this man. We were just leaving Vietnam and spent all of our last dong on snacks or little trinkets so we were scrambling to see how much cash we could pull together. The officer had taken the inconsolable jenna into a room and about 5 minutes passed before she came out, now composed she gave us a little nod and thumbs up. Sure enough all he wanted was a payoff and he asked for 2 million dong which is about 110 Canadian dollars. We thought it was gonna be hundreds so obviously she paid that instantly. Relieved and exhausted we reunited with Jenna on the safe side and rejoiced at the simple corruption of the Vietnamese government we experienced. We made it onto the flight and got to Manila no problem but it’s safe to say that Jenna will never go back to Ho Chi Minh :)

'Andrew Scott finds it best not to analyze why writer-director Steven Zaillian thought he would be perfect to play Tom Ripley, one of pop culture’s most infamous con artists. “It’s always weird finding out what people see in you, particularly when it’s a character like Ripley,” Scott tells Vanity Fair with a laugh.
“I was very determined not to diagnose him with anything,” the actor, best known for his performances in Fleabag and All of Us Strangers, explains. “I think what happens with these famous characters is that people have real strong ideas of who they are. I didn’t want to drown him in any preconceived ideas. Words like sociopath or psychopath or pseudo-sexual killer, all those things are just unhelpful to me. Even though he’s not necessarily always a reliable hero, he’s certainly the hero of the story.”
Nearly seven decades after Patricia Highsmith’s novel first introduced the world to walking red flag Tom Ripley, his grift is still going. The story, which previously inspired the 1999 film starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Jude Law, as well as Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn, will next be tackled in the Netflix series Ripley. The eight-episode project, which premieres April 4, casts Emma’s Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf—the vagabond heir to a wealthy Manhattan dynasty with whom Ripley becomes obsessed—and Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, the woman preventing the eponymous fraudster from preserving his place next to her boyfriend.
All three actors spoke to VF about inhabiting the twisted trio in a complex production that spanned nearly a year, from the summer of 2021 to the spring of 2022. “The three of us really picked each other up at different times during the process,” says Fanning. Scott was “the complete antithesis of the character” in real life, she adds: “open and warm and fun.”
There isn’t a trace of their jovial dynamic to be found in the series. Marge and Dickie’s patrician background helps them hide their true feelings about Scott’s interloper. “Their body language, their energy, and the intention is sometimes the complete opposite of what’s coming out of their mouth,” Fanning says. “You can say, ‘Nice to meet you,’ but like, you hate somebody, and the person will feel that. So it was playing with that a lot as Marge: What cards do you give away? When do you give them away?”
Scott, who earned his first screen-producing credit with Ripley, says he was less focused on what separates Marge and Tom than the traits they share. “Marge has allied herself with somebody that he admires and almost wants to be, and that’s a complex feeling to have. He feels like, ‘Well, what has she got that I haven’t got?’” says the actor. “Also, she’s perhaps not the glamorous, secure international figure that he might think. They have a lot in common. His dismissal of her is not because he dislikes her, but because she scrutinizes him in a way that other people don’t. So there’s admiration as well as suspicion.”
If Marge becomes Ripley’s mirror, Dickie is his motive. Flynn, who says via email that working with Scott was a major draw for him, describes the “intense psychological connection” between their characters. “There’s almost a blurred line in terms of their connection, whether it’s romantic or just a friendship with admiration, passing back and forth. But I think there’s more than a normal friendship on both parts, a yearning.”
Adds Scott, “For me, it’s never about playing the disconnection between those people. It’s about playing the attempt at connection. He feels very connected to Dickie, and I think he feels disillusioned by him, ultimately.”
At least one core belief bound all three actors: a strict no-contact policy with anyone who had or would soon play versions of their characters. “Absolutely not,” Scott says firmly. “No, I don’t think that’s a wise thing to do. I played a couple of quite famous literary characters before, and I think the big challenge is to be respectful, but not overly reverent. When I was doing Hamlet or playing Moriarty in Sherlock, it would be very dangerous [to look to other performances] because you want to put your own stamp on it. You’d only just be intimidated by what other people have done, and done brilliantly.”
Flynn, who like his costars consulted the novel throughout production, felt a similar desire to stay in his lane. “It wasn’t going to be useful for me to look at Jude’s performance or to think of the tone of that film, because we were trying to do something quite different,” he says.
Ripley stands apart from previous adaptations thanks to its episodic format, as well as its single-minded character study of the title character—going “as deep as anyone could go,” says Fanning. It’s also shot in stunning black and white by cinematographer Robert Elswit (who won an Oscar for There Will Be Blood). That choice, Fanning says, “lends itself to the mood and the inherent darkness of Andrew’s character,” adding, “I can’t imagine it in color.”
Flynn says the series was pitched by Zaillian as “a mid-century noir thriller,” in the vein of films like Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita. The 1999 movie, he explains, “feels very sunny and like a modern film, whereas Steve’s referencing some of the stuff that was being made in the period that the story is set in.”
The series was shot between New York City and Europe, “a tour of the best, most beautiful places in the world,” says Flynn—including the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Rome, and Venice. “Literally everything on screen is there for a reason, and you can feel that,” says Fanning. “It all plays a role—the sets, locations, the way it’s shot. All of the Italian actors are so brilliant. People who have one line are as brilliant as anyone.”
“I promise I’m telling you the truth when I say that I just thought they were the best, most gripping, most extraordinarily well-written scripts I’d ever read, really,” Scott says when asked his initial response to all eight episodes of Ripley.
It’s a sentiment earnestly echoed by both Fanning and Flynn—and a testament to the persistent allure of a good old-fashioned con. “I lean toward [the idea] that people are good, people want to be trusting,” says Fanning. “So when you see a story of somebody preying on somebody’s openness or kindness, that’s frustrating. And juicy.”
Viewers also find various ways to excuse Ripley’s treachery, says Flynn. “I suppose that’s the brilliant thing about a scammer story like this—you’re rooting for somebody who’s committing crimes. Which is [an] amazing kind of feat for a writer to pull off, to trick the audience into cheering on the person who society would deem as evil.”
Not to mention the eat-the-rich mentality that’s always made figures like Ripley feel relatable. “I feel like he’s not somebody who has ever been exposed to great beauty in the same way the Greenleafs are. Having a little bit of money and status means people get access to the things that actually should belong to everybody—great works of art, being able to travel the world, to taste extraordinary food,” Scott says. “I find that side of him really beautiful, that side that’s able to just drown himself in the beauty of the world. He’s a real ace thief in that sense.”
And if, by the series’s end, the audience feels complicit in Ripley’s crimes, that was always part of the con. “He’s got enormous smarts about him. To be able to watch somebody thinking on their feet is always a real treat for audiences,” says Scott. “He’s deeply talented, and talent is very attractive. And the fact that the only people who really know how brilliant he is, is the audience, makes it a real bond.”'

She helped with the airbnb bank fraud last year.
I need refunds on all scams now Paige. You and Amanda settle this tonight. Judges want current bank statement to so they can forgive debts from local scams at court/bank & Sheriff- who got busted on foul play.
Thanks!

Mark Tencaten | Cryptocurrency Scams you should be Aware of
With hundreds of cryptocurrencies debuting each month, the increased desire of investors in the blockchain world to place money in an extremely speculative market has rendered them more vulnerable to different cryptocurrency-related crimes. Losses from these scams totaled US$1.7 billion in 2018, with criminals defrauding unsuspecting investors using traditional and cutting-edge techniques.
Blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies are fields that are changing quickly; therefore, Mark Tencaten suggests it's critical to stay on top of new terms and effective safeguards for your money (cryptocurrencies).
The many cryptocurrency-related frauds are explained by Mark Tencaten here, along with tips on how to prevent them.
1. Fake Initial Coin Offerings
An ICO is a kind of cryptocurrency fundraising. It is the amount of cryptocurrency offered to investors or speculators in return for fiat cash or other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. If the project's financial objective is reached and the ICO's funding target is reached, the tokens sold are marketed as potential future usable units of money.
Fake initial coin offerings (ICOs) promise investors significant returns in very little time. To entice their investors, these con artists offer false white papers. Most ICO scams have been committed by convincing investors to invest, employing fake ICO websites and problematic wallets, or disguising themselves as legitimate cryptocurrency-based businesses.
2. Bogus crypto exchanges
One of the simplest methods to take advantage of inexperienced investors and traders is to pretend to be an affiliated branch of a trustworthy and lawful organization. By presenting prices that are incredibly competitive on the market, these fraudulent exchanges may deceive people into utilizing their services.
3. Counterfeit wallets
Choosing a wallet to hold and manage your digital currency is completely acceptable. The user-friendly layout of these wallets makes it simple for beginners to transfer cryptocurrency. But several fake wallets have been removed from the Google Play Store. Trezor was the most recent cryptocurrency wallet program to be copied. When a wallet is replicated, all its currency disappears, leaving your portfolio empty.
4. Pyramid scheme or Ponzi scheme
An investor is tricked into putting money in your concept, in this example, cryptocurrency, with the promise of extremely high returns. The only way an investor might receive his money back after the cryptocurrency transfers would be by convincing other investors to fund his business venture. This concept continues ascending to the top, where the scam artist who created it comes out on top.
OneCoin, which was made in 2015, is an example. OneCoins could be purchased by interested people by exchanging cash for this virtual currency, according to its inventors. A portion of this cash was used to cover the sums the other victims were anticipating receiving when they also purchased the investment. No other platform accepts this coin for payment. Over $50 million in illegal sales were plundered by this firm in one year.
5. Phishing
We all understand how phishing operates. Even in the blockchain sector, most individuals cannot defend themselves against numerous phishing frauds. In order to deceive us into disclosing our login, password, or payment details, scammers employ psychological manipulation. Simply put, scammers email links to their fraudulent websites. These pages are closely like any legitimate cryptocurrency trading website. Consumers are often instructed to send a specific amount of Bitcoins or Ether to a fake MyEtherWallet.
In 2019, two Israeli brothers were detained for allegedly running a three-year phishing scheme. During this period, they were accused of stealing over $100 million in cryptocurrencies by enticing buyers from popular cryptocurrency trading platforms like Reddit onto websites that looked just like well-known crypto exchanges.
6. Airdrop scam
The idea behind an airdrop is to give out free crypto tokens in limited quantities to certain wallets. Before the tokens are released, airdrops are a marketing strategy blockchain firms and projects employ to generate buzz. Users may sign up for airdrops through Google Forms or by directly enrolling through links on the project website. The cost of advertising for the developers is reduced because many users learn about airdrops through other means and earn referral tokens for drawing in new participants.
The most typical kinds of airdrop fraud include:
Dump Airdrop: A token's developers want to create a buzz about it right away so that when it launches on exchanges, people will be eager to purchase it. Once it happens, the creators swiftly sell (dump) every token they have for a tidy profit. The investors' tokens are now useless because the project was abandoned.
Private Key Scams: Private Key scams are completely fake and simple to spot. Instead of asking for the public keys to our wallets, these frauds request the private key via forms or links. The private wallet keys are never requested in genuine airdrops.
Mark Tencaten's Advice On How To Avoid Such Scams
·        Check to see if the exchange platforms you use abide by the laws of the nation where they are located. Please be sure that the wallets and platforms you use are reliable and built using blockchain technology. Reading the white paper of the blockchain venture or firm is crucial for spotting fraudulent initial coin offerings. Cloned versions of legitimate websites are created quickly by scammers. These websites are more likely to be scammed if there are any textual inconsistencies, blank website pages, or concealed team members.
·        Never invest in any endeavor without first conducting your own research. Any cryptocurrency's price increase, especially an altcoin, does not always mean it will become the next Bitcoin. Keep your confidential information, particularly the private wallet key, close at hand at all times. Such information is not required for real projects.
According to Mark Tencaten, it is a fast-expanding area with daily advances. As more people work in this industry, more people are likewise prone to commit fraud. Only by keeping up with the most recent news regarding cryptocurrencies and Blockchain Technology can you avoid being duped or conned.

The Wild Wild west of Fraud and Ponzi schemes
Tumblr media
Africa has become the wild wild west of Ponzi schemes. The new and upcoming Ponzi artists are working hard to separate people from their hard earned savings. The impacts of scam and Ponzi schemes on vulnerable populations can be far-reaching and long-lasting, affecting not only individuals and their families but also the broader community and economy.
They undermine the real efforts for financial inclusion in many countries in Africa, as they also deter people from participating in formal legal financial services and lead to a distrust of legitimate investment opportunities.
First an appeal to greed. Investment schemes promise high returns on investment but rely on new investors' money to pay returns to earlier investors. In Africa, quick money schemes have become a widespread problem, to name the new scammy very active entreprenors:
Qnet,
MonHeveadotcom
Mekit Invest,
OpenAiMali,
Sonnedix,
PetronPay,
Mygoldrev,
ICC service,
J Global.
This article seeks to examine the reasons why Ponzi scheme artists are so easily defrauding millions of small investors savings in Africa, and the impacts of Ponzi schemes on the African economy, KonektAfrica try to propose potential solutions to address the problem.
The Vulnerability of Small Investors
We have all received our "Dear friend the Nigerian Prince email", and wondered how could one believe in such obvious misrepresentation of truth? Well, with socioeconomic and political contexts playing a significant role, the crucial factor is the lack of financial literacy. Which leaves many individuals unable to differentiate between legitimate investment opportunities and fraudulent schemes. Limited access to formal financial services and low levels of financial inclusion further exacerbate this issue, as many people turn to informal networks and non-traditional sources of credit and investment.
Additionally, the lack of clear legislation regarding new financial activities, —Crypto— high rates of unemployment, making people more likely to take risks in the hope of quickly improving their financial situation. This vulnerability can be exploited by scammers who promise 50% per week returns with little to no risk.
Another important factor contributing to the vulnerability of people in Africa to scams and Ponzi schemes is the widespread use of digital technology, particularly mobile phones, which has enabled new forms of financial fraud. With the rapid growth of mobile money services and online transactions, scammers can more easily target a broader range of potential victims, even in remote areas. Furthermore, weak regulatory environments and limited enforcement capacities in some African countries can make it challenging to effectively combat financial fraud, as scammers can operate with relative impunity. Social and cultural factors, such as the reliance on trust within close-knit communities, can also be manipulated by scammers who use personal relationships to recruit new investors. These factors, combined with the allure of high returns and the desire for a better life, can make people in Africa particularly vulnerable to scams and Ponzi schemes.
Small investors in Africa are particularly vulnerable to Ponzi schemes due to several factors, including limited financial literacy, limited access to formal financial services, and high levels of poverty. Many small investors are unaware of the risks associated with investing and are easily lured by promises of high returns. In addition, the lack of access to formal financial services leaves many small investors with limited investment options, making them more susceptible to Ponzi schemes.
The Impacts of Ponzi Schemes on the African Economy
The belief that only vulnerable Africans fall victim to scams and Ponzi schemes is debunked when one considers the cases of MMM Global and Bernie Madoff's infamous Ponzi scheme. MMM Global, created by Sergei Mavrodi, was a fraudulent investment scheme that operated in multiple countries, including Russia, China, and South Africa.
At its peak, MMM Global reportedly had over 30 million participants, and it is estimated that investors lost as much as $1.2 billion when the scheme collapsed. This global reach of MMM shows that individuals from various cultural, economic, and social backgrounds can be susceptible to such schemes, not just vulnerable populations in Africa.
Similarly, Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme, one of the largest financial frauds in history, targeted primarily affluent individuals and institutions in the United States and Europe. Madoff's scheme, which defrauded investors of an estimated $65 billion, ensnared a wide range of victims, including sophisticated investors, high-net-worth individuals, and even charitable organizations.
The fallout from Madoff's scheme was felt globally, demonstrating that financial scams and Ponzi schemes are not exclusive to vulnerable populations in Africa or any specific region. In fact, they can have a far-reaching impact, affecting people from all walks of life and socioeconomic backgrounds. The allure of high returns and the exploitation of trust and personal relationships are universal factors that contribute to the success of such schemes, transcending geographical and cultural boundaries.
The impacts of Ponzi schemes on the African economy are significant, including the loss of savings for small investors, the erosion of trust in the financial system, and the potential for wider economic impacts.
When a scam or Ponzi scheme collapses, investors often lose their entire investment, as the funds have been diverted to pay earlier investors or have been misappropriated by the scheme's operators. These losses are particularly devastating for those with limited financial resources. The consequences of such losses can extend beyond the immediate financial impact, as individuals struggle to recover from the financial setback, potentially leading to long-term (more)financial instability. The loss of savings and financial ruin resulting from scams and Ponzi schemes can have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of those affected, as well as on their communities and the wider economy.
Potential Solutions…(Keep reading)
