Sharkfolk
“I had believed that there was nothing more frightening, besides creatures of the more monstrous variety, that a sailor could find themselves face-to-face with than a shark. While this idea was born from a man who had never stepped onto more than a small rowboat, and has been disproven hundreds of times, the most ironic thing to break this concept was when I was told that some of those sharks happen to have legs.
Grassha was friendly to a fault, but their rows of teeth and imposing build still nearly made me reconsider working with their company. But never had I been more afraid of them than when the ship was attacked, and the captain ordered that if we took any injury, we would return to the ship immediately. Because when there was blood in the air, Grassha didn’t care who it belonged to, only that they wanted more."
—Alec Crestfall, ‘Across the Monster’s Sea’
While the sahuagin are Sekolah’s children, the sharkfolk of Zedar are those who truly represent the shark god. Standing between six and seven feet in height and naturally broad and bulky, with a large, muscular tail behind them, the sharkfolk value strength above all else, and will often follow powerful individuals out of a desire to be on the strongest side. They share a mutual respect only with the sahuagin, and any other race must prove their worth before a tribe of sharkfolk will agree to not hunt them down.
Always Moving
Similar to true sharks, sharkfolk rely on constant travel for survival, though that is more due to a nomadic nature and lack of territory than a biological need. Most sharkfolk band together in nomadic tribes to compare strength and increase their power with numbers, and to breed stronger families, though many sharkfolk set out on their own, earning personal power and fear. Few families coddle their children, expecting them to adapt or perish, training them as hunters and warriors from birth.
They travel with impunity through sahuagin territories, the shared reverence of sharks granting them a rare immunity, but it is not unheard of for tribes or individuals to encroach on other territories. In cases like this, it is often the best idea to ignore the intrusion, as they tend to jump on any opportunity to enter a battle.
Blood in the Water
Sharkfolk are rarely welcomed into groups outside of their own, because they have a sensitive nose and an uncontrollable bloodlust if they catch scent of blood. If a creature is badly injured, regardless of allegiance, most sharkfolk won’t be able to stop themselves from tearing them apart. Most hunting is done by individual sharkfolk for this reason, to prevent the slaughter of each other. This isn’t to say that many sharkfolk can’t overcome this weakness, especially those who push away their more violent urges to pursue a life away from the brutal, bloody nature of their people.
Sharkfolks can resemble any number of sharks, and can appear more feral or humanoid depending on their lineage and habitats, but all sharkfolk suffer the same bloodlust and violent urges, even if one was raised away from their usual society. They often compare kill counts with other tribes or warriors, and show a rare amount of respect to any with more kills than themselves.
Sharkfolk Names
Sharkfolk names are often similar to those of the sahuagin, but due to the disjointed nature of their cultures, many will also adopt names in aquan or even common. While they identify tribes based on scent and visual cues, they will adopt a tribal name in common, to strike fear into sailors.
Personal Names: Abshaka, Cuttlesh, Lionfish, Malucsh, Yashiqis
Clan Names: Hammerbone, Megalodon, Tigerblood, Whitehunt
Sharkfolk Traits
Raised and bred to be a powerful warrior, you possess several abilities to help mark you as the apex predator of the oceans.
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2 and your Strength score increases by 1.
Age. Sharks mature faster than humans, being considered adults by the age of 12, and those who do not die in battle rarely survive longer than 60 years, with the lives they are expected to live.
Alignment. Sharkfolk are bred to be aggressive and ferocious, and rarely show any care for anything weaker than themselves. Their care for law is a very weak sense of honour, marking the majority of sharkfolk as neutral or even chaotic evil.
Size. Most sharkfolk stand well over six feet in height and weigh nearly 300 pounds, bolstered by their natural bulky muscularity. Your size is medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet, and your base swimming speed is 45 feet.
Darkvision. You have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern colour in darkness, only shades of grey.
Amphibious. You can breathe both air and water.
Bite. Your bite counts as a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with your bite, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Blood Tracker. You have advantage on all perception checks to locate any bleeding creatures within 60 feet of yourself, or any creatures with less than half of their maximum hit points within 120 feet.
Blood Madness. The scent of blood unleashes your feral instincts. Any creature below half of their hit point maximum that is within 60 feet of you can cause you to attack it with everything you have. At the start of your next turn, make a Wisdom saving throw to resist the temptation. The DC for this saving throw is equal to 10, +1 for each additional two creatures below half of their hit point maximum within this range. On a failed save, you must use your movement to get as close as you can to the nearest creature in this state and perform a melee attack with advantage, or use your dash action if your movement cannot reach them. Attacks against you have advantage while the blood madness persists. This save can be repeated at the start of each of your turns, ending if all targets are killed or healed past half of their hit point maximum.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common, Aquan and Sahuagin.

If The Disney Princesses Were Trans
Hari Nef (she/her) as Snow White
Tumblr media
Hunter Schafer (she/her) as Cinderella
Tumblr media
Zión Moreno (she/her) as Aurora, Sleeping Beauty
Tumblr media
Arisce Wanzer (she/her) as Ariel, The Little Mermaid
Tumblr media
Michaela Jae Rodriguez (she/her) as Belle
Tumblr media
??? as Jasmine
Tumblr media
I couldn’t find a Middle-Eastern trans actress to play Jasmine. If anyone knows of one feel free to share.
Ilona Verley (she/her & they/them)
Tumblr media
I know Pocahontas isn’t exactly considered the most respectful film. But a Two-Spirit Disney Princess would be dope.
Ivory Aquino (she/her) as Mulan
Tumblr media
This casting could be considered problematic, as Ivory Aquino is Filipino and Mulan is Chinese. But I could only find one Chinese trans actress / celebrity (Jin Xing) & she’s a bit too old for the part. If anyone knows of an alternate casting feel free to share!
Alexandra Grey (she/her) as Tiana
Tumblr media
Josie Totah (she/her) as Rapunzel
Tumblr media
Indya Moore (they/them) as Merida
Tumblr media
Kim Petras (she/her) as Elsa
Tumblr media
Nicole Maines (she/her) as Anna
Tumblr media
Kaimana (they/them) as Moana
Tumblr media
I realize now that Kaimana might be a little too old to play Moana, but they were they only trans pacific islander I could find. Kaimana is fa'afafine (a third gender in Samoan culture) & is playing a fa'afafine character who ID’s as, “non-binary and a trans woman,” in an upcoming movie. I’m assuming Kaimana is the same as that character, but I wouldn’t cast an AFAB fa'afafine as a cis woman because I feel that’s disrespectful so if anyone knows something I don’t feel free to share.
So I don’t think this list is perfect but it’s still fun to think about. Hope folks enjoyed reading it!

felicity sat at her desk, working on paperwork. she had completely forgotten about her date with sara.
sara walked into the desk, and she gave a soft knock on the doorframe. "hey, fel."
felicity looked up, and then she groaned softly. "i'm so sorry, i completely forgot about our date." she got up, putting her pen down running a hand through her hair. "i'm sorry!"
sara watched her girlfriend, blue eyes following the frantic woman. she found it cute, because felicity had never been frantic before. "don't be sorry, i know how hectic your work is. you are a ceo, after all, smoak." she grinned and walked up to felicity, which caused the girl to stop and look at her.
sara moved felicity's hair from her face, smiling down at her. "i know how hard you work," she spoke softly before smiling gently.
"sometimes i actually wonder how you can love someone who works this hard, and forgets our dates." she frowned softly, looking at her.
"because i love you." sara spoke gently.
felicity got on her tippy toes, and she kissed sara softly.

The Man on the Horse
The bareback gentleman with the sporty farmer's tan is Baron Gustaf Mannerheim (1867-1951), the Honourable Marshal of Finland who led the country through a number of wars from 1918 to 1945.
Although honourable and noble, Mannerheim is also a controversial historical figure. Public opinion about his legacy is divided. To some, including official Finland and a quite large segment of the Finnish population, he is a larger-than-life national hero. To others, including the less official Finland, another quite large segment of the Finnish population, and a growing number of international scholars, he is a genocidal war criminal.
So – a noble hero or a common criminal? Yet another war criminal that clever spin doctors have been able to mythologise as a hero? The great defender of the old world? A comic character even? Or a skilful cavalryman who accidentally became a mediocre statesman? Let’s take a look behind the noble facade, let’s strip search the man. What can the naked truth possibly unfold? What can the naked field marshal – the Naked Marski – tell us?
And – how do we relate to signs and images that celebrate his legacy in the public space? How big a problem is it that a figure who represents outdated attitudes and ideologies (militarism, supremacism, patriarchy, whitehunting, authoritarian rule and tsarist autocracy), as well as problematic relations to major war crimes (Nazi collaboration and civil war genocide), is occupying a prominent spot in the capital of a country that has been labelled as one of the most democratic and educated in the world?
Moderator – OK, who wants to start?
Adrien (Ad) – I’m a late arrival. I arrived in Finland as a student almost twenty years ago, and I have to say that it has been a challenge to understand Mannerheim and why he is popular at all. It’s a difficult equation to crack. Learning the Finnish language was actually easier. I see more problems than greatness when it comes to the Marski. He lost two wars and won one – and that was over an amateur people’s army and with the help of highly trained German Imperial troops.
Risto (Rt) – Of course the man is overrated and too highly elevated, but back then the young Finnish republic was desperate for a hero. We should keep in mind that the first Finnish republic, 1917-1944, coincided not only with several brutal ideological and geopolitical conflicts, but also with the rise and early golden age of Hollywood cinema and popular culture in general. In times of war, generals suddenly got very much focus. Some of them became like film stars, even prima donnas, sometimes with their own public relations departments. Charisma, light and camera angles became as important as military skills. Marski understood this game. It’s how you create a cult of the leader.
Ad – Nothing brings out the worst in people like high command, to quote a British high commander.
Markku (Mk) – To me though it is clear and simple. We Finns have The Marski to thank for our independence. We lost the war, but we defended our independence.
Minna (Mn) – Here we go again. I find that statement very unclear and simplifying. I’d say that men like Mannerheim more than anything jeopardised the independence of Finland and the security of the population, including themselves. Maybe Finland being part of Barbarossa was a bigger threat to the Soviet Union and the people living there than the other way around? And look at what happened in Hungary... maybe Nazi Germany with 200.000 troops in Finland – and many more very near our borders – would have been a bigger threat to us than the soviets? Maybe the Peace Opposition in the end was more important to us than the War Effort? Maybe the Tehran Conference was more important than Tali–Ihantala? How important was it that Sweden didn’t join NATO after the war? And why is there a statue celebrating the Red Army in Kirkenes-Kirkkoniemi in northern Norway? There are so many interesting questions for those who want to dig a little deeper...
Rt – ...and for those who can accept a few uncomfortable answers. But engaging in the more complicated parts of our history is a kind of luxury that many people cannot afford. It’s time-consuming and it requires that you have to question a lot about your own identity.
Mk – But... asking to remove a statue, isn’t that like erasing history for future generations?
Mn – Come on. Statues are propaganda, they are put up as part of a political agenda. Erasing propaganda is not erasing history, you know that. Adolf Hitler is not forgotten because there are no public statues of him.
Ad – Statues are very visible forms of historical storytelling, but they are also very shallow, because they don’t tell the whole story. In a way you could say that putting up a statue as reverence for a person is more like ’erasing history’ than to remove the statue.
Rt – I agree about propaganda and history. Statues are about worship. History is found elsewhere, in books and archives. It’s about researching places, documents and other sources in order to verify and explain. That’s history imho.
Mn – It would be very interesting to make a podcast series starting with the material we have gathered here, and then adding more material like interviews with other people who have thought about this.
Ad – That's a great idea. You guys should do it in Finnish and call it Alaston Marski.
Rt – The skeletons will come out of the closet. The not so pretty parts of Finnish history will come to light. The history of mass graves, war crimes and anti-heroes. We will go all the way to the line, and then step over it. You are listening to Alaston Marski.
