...personally i headcanon all* most the americas nation-people—the ones tied the most to the, well, states (:-I)—being mixed. i came to the conclusion from a combination of thinking about the continent(...s) history and a just hunch. "x country/nation is a x country/nation" just doesn't feel... right. it just can't feel right.

(and yup, including alfred and matthew, but i mainly think them as fake blondes lmao)

edit: i should've used most/a lot not all yesterday, and mention that the "everybody is mixed" phrase invisibilizes afro and indigenous latines (and asian latines), so is used to imagine the populations as a homogenized, and mainly to silence the most descriminized populations. also, some latine nation(-state)-person could totally have a native background, sadly making them related to the states would likely make them strained to their roots (the culture, the people, the older nation-people)... unless we think them rebelling against both colonizers and the new states for the longest time possible, that would be cool.

in other words, i should have said instead "i hc the americas nation-people as non white, though some white-passing, and well, treated as such". if asked, i think they would avoid direct answers (depends who's asking), and/or make sure to clarify they answer as the individual person...

i'd also add... class to this. i rather think heta people would interact with all kinds of people, tho might fall into only interacting with the rulers at times—both out of genuily "times passes so fast i blink and everything changes" and from being neglectful, as just doing the minimal mingling is easier, etc. anyway, i imagine them before (or even now) getting scolded by ruling class for "acting, sounding or looking" as common people (*rme*). bullshit of course, they'd supposedly represent all (remember the whole nation vs state vs country thing), and a bullshit thing to to say in itself (who cares).

see what i did by "looking". gonna sound cruel, but if the paler whitewatched nation-people asses from both the extremes of the continent("s") work in the fields from dawn to dusk, they are gonna get tanned.
